(If this is the wrong place for this, Mods feel free to close, move or delete it.
It really only pertains to the Inspire 4G because I own and have modified one.)
It happened last night. My mom has decided that, finally, she wanted a smartphone. Not only a smartphone, but she had done some research and asked me what I thought about the HTC Aria and the LG Pheonix. I told her that the Aria is basically discontinued, so no need in getting that one; and the Pheonix, I didn't know enough about. She had read online that either phone was a good first-time, smartphone to have.
So we went to the AT&T store and looked around, found a Pheonix, messed around with it and I decided sure...it would be a great phone for my mom. For her needs it would do perfectly and well hell, it was running 2.2.1. (of course, I was already running through my mind how to root it and get into it.. )
The amusing part of the whole thing was that the saleslady came over and began to tell us the most off the wall stuff about Android. Of course, I had just got off work and didn't look as smart as I am, so I listened and waited patiently for her spiel...rolling my eyes at the appropriate time, sighing at the right moments and all that.
I noticed she (the saleslady) was getting irritated with me, when especially my mom would look over at me questioningly, as the saleslady would state the capabilities of the phone and I would nod yes or shake my head no.
I could tell the saleslady began to question her confidence at trying to make the sale and finally I said to her, "look we've already decided to get this phone. Its perfect for what she (my mom) needs."
So we went to the counter to finalize the deal and of course, the saleslady started in on "how you should consider getting the 2gb data plan, as with android its always on the internet checking for updates." "There's a lot of settings which are hard to turn off, so it's just easier to get the bigger plan."
I just looked at her..."I can turn them off." Stated simply...with no arrogance or sarcasm intended or noted. She looked at me and paused for a moment; then continued on like I hadn't said anything. She was trying really hard to make this sale and she kept on and on to the point I was getting irritated with her and said,
"look, by midnight tonight I can have that phone turned inside out and backwards...I know what it can do and I'm pretty sure I know its capabilities. Believe me when I say I can turn off the mobile data."
By then she was looking at me with a kinda of stunned expression, like nobody had ever challenged her. Probably didn't make it any better that there were other sales associates and customers standing around.
So she tried a different approach...by trying to sale my mom a case and car charger. I said mom, you can get one cheaper on line...to which the sales lady, in a desperate attempt, stated "you will void your warrenty using 3rd party chargers on your phone."
To which, I again, sighed and said with no malice or harm intended "no...it will void the warrenty if we fry the phone and you can prove we used a 3rd party charger."
By that time, I looked around and several of the other customers were watching our exchange, because it went back and forth for several minutes, like I was some kind of God or even a Demon. I dunno.
I could tell she was rattled and if nothing else I gave her a little learning not to assume that everybody who comes through the door is clueless. Maybe I was an ass/jerk but that really wasn't my intentions.
Your My Hero!
Haha, I hate listening to salespeople who have basically no clue what they are talking about and sometimes i throw out questions that I know for a fact that they cannot answer.
And wow, who would actually say using a third party charger will void your warranty... personally I would be embarrassed just to say that in my head.
Cool. Story. Bro.

I had heard that before, but I don't know how they could prove it.
Nice one. Thanks for starting my day with a smile.
I can recall when I went to look for Atrix how the salesperson was telling some other customer that Inspire was a dual core and had 1 GB RAM. I was like with a "?" on my face and told him, it didn't, and that he was confused between Atrix and Inspire specs.
i had the same type of exchange when i went in for my inspire. I think they should really inform the employees a little better, or at least a little!
Sales ppl suck. I always tell them, Nicely but firmly. "Thank you, but I will inform you when I am ready to purchase." If they continue I let them know that I have things in hand and am not requesting thier service at this time.
It usually works. Sometimes I have to tell them, Please excuse us, but I know more about electronics then you and do not apprecaite your miscomunication.

Yep, that's a prime example between salespersons that work on commission, and those that do not.

Funny story but remember the sales people need to make commission so they will try anything to make a sale. And they don't get the proper training as these phones are released I know because I used to be a sales rep for at&t therefore they look stupid to phone tech savvy people.

I do have to say that using a third party charger is not the best move. It won't void your warranty ( I work for ATT Corp.) but it does have a habit of destroying phones.
I usually say to people that you wouldn't want to run cheap wiring in your house so why would run cheap wiring from your car to your phone and risk frying both for something that is at most 20 bucks cheaper.
But that's just my 2cents.
There are differences in usb cables..... My wifes old Xperia X10 would burn up if I plugged in my Inspire's cable. Literally high temps and reboot.....
This is awesome! I feel the same exact way every time I go into that store. Last time I went in to upgrade my iPhone 3GS and I went in with it jailbroken and modded and themed to hell and the guy saw it and was like "WOAH! THATS SO COOL! WHAT IS THAT?" i told him it was an app as he proceeded to hand me the iPhone 4 lol

Heh...well she shouldn't have assumed; I never stated we were ordering a 3rd party charger. I could have ordered a proprietary charger online...and perhaps a better price.

+1 i bought an inspire may 23rd and since then my aunt, uncle, other aunt, and my father have bought the same phone. I was with them each sale, what a major mindnumbing experience.. Radioshack was worse though, at best go to best buy, haven't had any problems with them and they do price match...
The reps at my store are actually pretty cool. When I went to get my inspire, the only thing he said was "if you want eye candy, sturdyness, great support and cool customization's then the inspire is for you. If you want better battery life or a future proof phone, then I'd go for the attic, but I've learned the consumer usually knows what they want if they walk in,and go straight for the high end phones" those were the exact words lol. Then i told him I would flash a ROM on the inspire to improve battery life and he was like yeah, that would work too and told me how he did the same with his captivated. The. Got his store manager to whip out his inspire,to show me the custom ROM he was running LOL. The reps here are all cool and never push for you to get something different then what you laid eyes on when you walked in the store. But its different with the Verizon store here. Every time I go in to pay my laptop bill they always trying to get me to add a line, and then i tell them how I would only consider there incredible 2,but wouldn't get it due to boot loaders being locked, and they would be like huh? So I'd be like, uhh I wouldn't be able to hack it. And they a rep said "well ya know,Verizon phones usually come with the best software period and no hack/mod will make it any better" I looked around like, umm you do know verizon owns the worst phone ever....the Droid x,rite? They just laughed and I left. But anyways,at&t here is awsome

If the charger doesn't have HTC written all over it, it's a 3rd party charger. The one I bought from AT&T has a USB port on it and the AT&T deathstar glows when plugged in. I do believe that's a "3rd party" charger.
There may be quality differences in construction of chargers but they're not that complicated since the phone is actually doing all the charging and battery monitoring.

So I went into Best Buy yesterday and wanted to see if they had a G2 to play with. I've noticed that there cell phone sales presence has become much more prevalent lately, but I hadn't dealt with any of the salesmen at this point.
I'll say as a side note, that the salespeople at T-Mobile stores have generally been helpful and informative. Unfortunately, few in my area have a live G2.
Within seconds of getting over to the counter, strong cologne alerted me to the presence of the salesman before the **** eating grin.
I asked if he had a live G2 or a Vibrant, and he had neither. I mentioned that I had done a lot of research and mostly wanted a little more face time with each phone prior to buying. I brought up Android 2.2 as a major consideration for me and the salesman very quickly told me "Oh, you didn't hear? Froyo is out now for the Vibrant. My phone downloaded it this morning (10/15)."
"Really? You have Froyo on your Vibrant? As of this morning?" I asked.
"Yup, I got the update this morning, it's awesome."
At this point, his cohort had come by. The competing fogs of Aqua di Gio and Hollister California were starting to make my eyes water. I can only assume the second monkey's fake sky blue contact lenses were there to protect his eyes from the flammable air.
"So I overheard you asking about Froyo on the Vibrant? He just got it on his phone this morning. It really screams on the Vibrant's dual core CPU." said monkey number two.
"Well," I said, "would you mind if I took a look at your phone then? See how Android is?"
"Sure, go for it!" said monkey number one.
Opened the browser, went to streetfire.net, and pulled up a Top Gear video, something that I know works on the G2 and displays the little Flash alert pane on the Vibrant. Shockingly, the video didn't play.
"So how's the battery holding up for you?" I asked.
"Oh, it's awesome. I haven't charged it for a day and a half and it's still at 35%. An that's with people playing with it at the store all day long."
"Wow, that's pretty amazing. I think I'll sleep on it, but maybe I'll be by tomorrow" (at this point I hadn't heard about the Froyo push in Norway and wanted to learn more)
"Cool, can I give you a call tomorrow to follow up?"
"Sure" (I proceeded to give him my @home number so he could sit there and leave voicemails all day if he wanted)
I really enjoyed how the two of them could just stand there lying their asses off after I told them I had done a significant amount of research already.
Anyway, enjoy; I found it amusing.
Yeah, that's corporate business for ya. People will do whatever they have to just to make a sale. Well, most people at least. But I agree, it's hilarious! For two reasons:
1.) Dual core? Really?! That isn't on any smart phone yet.
2.) For someone to boldly lie to their customers face is just ridiculous and shows ya that their are actually people out there that buy this crap.
I mean, would you constantly lie to people if you knew that your lies wouldn't be believed? I wouldn't. So that goes to show you how gullible some people are and how much they actually need to you the great searching tools that the internet has given us.
They probably went from alphabetizing dvd's to selling phones in a week.
I hope you made no mention of xda. For our sakes.
good day.

Just kidding, the phone is great. Merry Christmas all!
Seriously, some of the people on here are fvckin retarded.
Sorry, but I have to totally disagree with you. When you pay $300+ for a phone you better be getting one that isn't defective or full of issues. Luckily the only issue I've experienced on mine is the creaking buttons, and they've been freaking loud as hell. Not just something you barely hear, it's just flat out f'n annoying. No way in hell should something like that have ever passed HTC's QC process. If you're fine with buttons that make noise every time you press on them, then good for you.
Merry Christmas.

What's wrong with people on these forums? I bet if half of you never read any forums you wouldn't have returned your phones nearly as many times as you have. Sure, I can understand if your screen looks terrible, but constantly exchanging your phone because the FFC is off by 1 millimeter is ridiculous.
So many people here have returned their phone 5+ times, what's the point! If you really have to return it 5 times you might as well get a dumb phone because you'll never be happy. Even if you get a good screen and everything is good, you might complain that an application you installed forced closed and you're going to return it. The **** people complain about is really annoying.
I've owned several android phones and I've NEVER had such a problem with any where I felt I had to exchange it 5+ times. myTouch Slide, perfect out of the box. Vibrant, perfect out of the box, even after I dropped it twice on concrete without a case. G2, perfect out of the box. MT4G, perfect out of the box! Yes my back button creaks a little but I can only hear it when I'm somewhere where it's completely silent, I mean not even a sound. Otherwise I can't hear it, ever.
With every phone I've had there's just been people complaining and complaining about the silliest things. If you have to go through 5+ phones then the issue is with you, not the phone. I've dropped my MT4G about 3 times without a case where the battery just flew out. Guess what, its still perfect! At a party last night some little kid came by and punched it out of my hand onto some rocks, battery flew out and everything but it's still running perfectly.

Luckily you got a good MT4G out of the box, but some (many) weren't has lucky. And if you think they should only return their phone once and if it isn't a good screen either just settle for it because they are returning the phone too many times then you are mistaken. The place you need to put the blame is squarely on HTC and the QC of the out going phones. A phone with this magnitude of issues should not pass the QC. And the fact that people (and it's not just one or two people, it's tons of us) continually find issues with the phones points to an issue with the phone manufacturing process, not the consumers. I paid full price for this phone, I want a that phone to be free of manufacturing defects.
Magnitude of issues???? I have the SH screen and hardly think it is "defective" - my back button occasionally makes a creak, but not enough to warrant the trouble to return it. Should I have a real issue, I will warranty the phone. But to clog the system by returning your phone 3,4,5 times for a off center FFC or just trying to game the best display is ludicrous.

Yeah, we're the problem here, not HTC. That totally makes sense. You know, since we're the ones shipping phones with defective buttons, off-centered FFCs and washed out displays.
Even more annoying are the people who come here to complaint about other people because they haven't been lucky enough to get a good one right out of the box. I'm on my third one...all with terrible washed out looking screens.
If you are happy with what you have why don't just enjoy it and stay out of the threads about the physical issues regarding this phone. Nobody is forcing you to read about it right? The simple remedy for you...stay away and save yourself from being annoyed.
Merry Christmas, champ!

What surprises me is the one who started this thread. Great videos on his YouTube page that are helpful and informative, and then he starts a thread that is only going to start a heated discussion.
And to call people retarded for simply wanting a phone free of defects is total bullsh1t.
Happy New Year.
C'mon guys its Christmas! All I can say is, if ur happy with the phone you have right even with defects, keep it. If not return it and get a new one till your satisfied with the quality. Wat im really trying to say is, it all comes down to self preferences, cuz everyones opinion may not be the same. Some people expect there phones to be great quality because of wat they paid for.
And Some peepz dont give rats ass. As long there phones works. So there u go guys. Theres no sense to keep dis heated disscussion going on. No bashing before u end up being banned by the mods. Lol
Merry Christmas guys.
Ok yes I did return my phone because of the camera and screen because it was off pretty bad and the touch pad hardly ever worked. This phone the touch pad works great but it is not only worse on the ffc but now I'm having serious issues with connecting to the network. This is the first phone ive had where the issues bug me. All my other ones are perfect out of the box. So yes I will return it but when it works correctly yes I will keep it.

wrong. FFC off center means when you use the FFC and you have to tilt the hpone to get yo face in the center.

Hmmm washed out screen, off center ffc, creaky buttons. Looks like POS HTC QC failed again, WTF did these phone even get though? Is HTC/TMo still denying it? Looks like ill hold on ordering MT4G but as everyday passes I do miss my HD2
BTW did anyone get to order MT4G via TMobile website? All I see is when I pick the device is with 2year contract with discount, I mean WTF do you order the phone and pay full price? They don't expect me to walk in to TMobile store to just buy a phone now do they? WTF even have online shopping then if you can't order that POS.
Also WTF is up with the plans? Last time I checked EM+ 500Talk unlimited text/web was $59.99 and now thats changed to 200MB/month and if you want unlimited web thats $30? WTF? I remember $29.99 for 500min, $10 for unlimited text, $20 for unlimited web. But now they want $79.99? All these bull**** makes me want to keep my TMo account suspended and move to Sprint.

My phone has none of those problems. Go to Sprint then, I'm sure the Evo gets fantastic battery life. For the same plan on Sprint you pay $80 because of the $10 "data fee" they charge on all 4G devices.

What are you TMobile-Fanboy? I was just pointing out there sneaky tactics, thats all. So level with me here so you can see what I see thus be enlightened with logic.
Before: Even More Plus Smartphone Unlimited Web - $19.99
After: Even More Plus Smartphone Unlimited Web - $39.99
So what can you see here? the price went up x2.
Alternative: Even More Plus webConnect® 200MB - $24.99
And what does this say? This is +$5 on old unlimited web plan with 200MB/month bandwidth cap.
Unless you think bandwidth is getting expensive, which is not the case as its going down. The only reason for them to do this is to milk it for whats it worth. Competition is a good thing to bad I can't say the same about actual Teleco/Cableco ISP MPLS.

Of course they charge more money for the data plan you want (HSPA+ 4G data network that is). They invested billions in a 4G network to MAKE money, not lose it.
My favorite part, "Unless you think bandwidth is getting expensive, which is not the case as its going down". Really? Who is REDUCING prices for their services on cell sites? I'm not even sure what went through your head when you posted that. Do you think all of the required equipment and man hours it took to install the equipment in T-Mobile's cell sites was free? Do you think the required data back haul to provide the 4G speeds is free? Maybe next time you think before just randomly typing complete BS on the website.

I was wondering the same thing. Not like we couldn't get an iPhone if we wanted...
What this has to do with captivate...
There has been plenty of closet apple fanboys that are current captivate owners posting on this forum about how much better iphone is. So this is mainly for them.
Also, this is good information to know if you are considering going from AT&T to Verizon, because plenty of people on here complain how much AT&T sucks. The grass is always greener on the other side...until you start comparing facts instead of speculation and conspiracy theories. The information passed through that article is just an FYI, some things you should know and consider, so that you can make a well informed decision.
And again, hince, the title of this thread...for those considering...

All cell phone companies suck.......some just more than others. In my area...with all of the over lapping coverages...the ones with the biggest dead zones is Verizon then Sprint...and I have had more issue with both of them, for customer service issues as well...these issues to the point of canceling service and changing carriers...all within 1 year too...
As to the OP...I had this type of discussion/debate last night at work with some heavy duty Verizon fan boys (co-workers)...They all saying AT&T had the worst coverage around and the worst customer satisfaction scores...let alone the crappiest phones...Most everything on paper was compared...but it's funny how things like this are compared...something someone wrote in a review being taken as gospel by JQP...That is till real world testing is done before their very eyes...and even then...the disbelief and excuses ensue...
Speed test...that almost shut them up right there...When compared...the best they could muster standing side by side was 314 kbps down...mine hit 5997 kbps down... This is with all of theirs showing 2&3 bars while 1 other was on Sprints 4g network...and my lowly rooted Captivate running it's custom I-9000 rom... was at full strength (duh)...Their admiration of just how good their cell coverage was their main stay...and was very compelling to those who didn't understand anything about it after all...it said so in the review article they had prepared before my arrival and the basis of their Damming Proof......Their main argument was saying AT&T cell coverage sucks a big one where I work and in the surrounding areas......and "after all "...the real test of any phone was how good a signal their phones got...and how they could talk anytime anywhere when no-one else couldn't..( again...this is widely reported as a major issue with these phones...per the article/review )...so...just to prove I didn't have any issues with my coverage except for a couple of places inside where any realistic person would know cell coverage was next to impossible..(lead lined areas...massive electrical equipment interference ) It was suggested...just to prove them right.. how ineffective my phone was under normal circumstances...so we all got on a elevator on the 18 floor and rode it down 2 stories below ground to the lower level......mine was the only one still working...and could still manage to make calls...until we moved into a dead area...as mentioned above...It's rather funny...though extremely anemic on their part... how they changed tactics after that brief demonstration...and how it was lamented that I tampered with the phone to make it as good as it is...
Granted...while that aspect is true enough...I asked them..what their point was and what their objections were...and the warranty issue was first and foremost their main thing...and since I wasn't going to bother flashing back to stock to prove my point that that was irrelevant..the conversation ended...and they felt vindicated in some manner...as most fan-boys grasp at the most anemic excuses to prove their point...let alone realize their arguments have no merit...
Moral of the story...My Captivate is the best phone I have ever owned...and the sheep people will never know the benefits to having a truly unlocked phone...and only buy and use what they are sold as is...Fan-boys will believe what ever drivel is spoon fed them and never admit they have been deceived....and...the most important thing...all cell phone companies suck...some...just more than others...and of course YMMV...

all cell phone companies suck.......some just more than others.in my area...with all of the over lapping coverages...the ones with the biggest dead zones is verizon then sprint...and i have had more issue with both of them, for customer service issues as well...these issues to the point of canceling service and changing carriers...all within 1 year too...
How they changed tactics after that brief demonstration...and how it was lamented that i tampered with the phone to make it as good as it is...:d
granted...while that aspect is true enough...i asked them..what their point was and what their objections were...and the warranty issue was first and foremost their main thing...and since i wasn't going to bother flashing back to stock to prove my point that that was irrelevant..the conversation ended...and they felt vindicated in some manner...as most fan-boys grasp at the most anemic excuses to prove their point...let alone realize their arguments have no merit...

The ad at the end of that video made me LOL! An app that lets u see (uses your phones camera) where ur going while you text! lol is that for reals??

I'm no Verizon fanboy but I definitely see some bias, tactical mudslinging and slippery slope fallacies here.
Well I had my phone stolen last night gutted to say the least. I used PlanB to track it down, but it went straight to the mafia district here in Vietnam! Trust me that's a place you don't want to be going at night, so I let it go!
Sadly the police here are a waste of time too, so that's bye-bye phone!
Luckily I guess there was nothing on the phone that I can't replace aside from my sms\txt messages but I can live without that. Everything else is backed up bar one or two recent photos. I hadn't even rooted it yet.
So I'm gonna be buying a new phone at the end of the month and now the dilemma is to replace with another sensation or look at the alternatives. EVO3D, maybe look at the galaxy but I'm not a real fan of Samsung, but it's a viable option.
Or see what else is coming REAL soon.
oh well some shopping to do I guess.

as for getting a new phone, i recommend another sensation, as the prices have dropped just a bit...or get a janky POS phone to hold you of till nov/dec when the hercules or holiday come out
POST 420! too bad im at work
How exactly did it get stolen? Just curious...
Picked my pocket by two very cute girls who did a great distraction job on me, they walked into me and dropped some stuff. I stopped helped them pick it up and when I turned round I noticed a distinct lack of weight where phone had been. Realised what had happened immediately turned round to confront them only to see them climbing on a motorbike being ridden by another accomplice and take off sharpish!
Could've been worse just found out my CEO father in-law had his iphone snatched from his hand last evening as he was on the phone leaning against a wall. Two guys rode up, one jumped off pushed him and harrased him to grab the phone and rode off sharpish. Luckily he's not hurt.
PS the idea of taking a gun into mafia district is highly appealing, but just not worth it in the end. Outnumbered to say the least and as a westerner living here I'd be picked up within hours.
Friend of mine who's been here longer than me has lost 8 phones in 4years!
PPS ahhh 420... at the 420 in 'dam I miss them days...
I guess it would make sense to make all calls via a BT headset and keep the phone taped to your crotch or something.

Damn Charlie robbed you...... Did those girl say.....me so horny, me luv you long time..... Haha
Sorry to hear that just goto mafia district and make a suicidal bomber vest with c4 and hold a grenade without the pin on the trigger and threaten everyone to surrender all the cellphones drugs and cash n weapons
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I heard vietnam is not a save country. Even for tourism. Their goverment should do something especially at the mafia area. We live in a melenium year, not 40s or 60s anymore!!
Sorry to hear what happen to you. And as for new phone, I think you definately not to use expensive phone over there. Better use plain old chip phone in such danger and high crime area.

That's just corny in this day and age.
TBH crime here isn't that bad and certainly no worse than London or other major cities I've been too. Majority of the time I feel pretty safe and as long as your aware of what's going on it's no biggie.
I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and got suckered by some fluttering eyes
but bonus time i bought the phone on my credit card (well paid off now) but means it's insured I had two days before it was out !!
Ever since Updating to the official MM RUU posted in these forums I, and others are stating that they have been getting the following message:
Sending SMS messages
Message failed. Would you like to retry?
Deny Allow
(attached)
I aim opening this in an attempt to try and ascertain what the issue could be. As Nobody seems to have an answer in what limited fashion I asked.
This is on the Official firmware RUU by dottat ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...pment/stock-m-firmware-nand-recovery-t3330972 ).
It was stated elsewhere that this matter was resolved by another dev, but am unable to determine how possibly that was done
This easily happens multiple times a day if I text frequently

That's odd.
That happened to me before I updated, updating with the ruu fixed it. That was my fix personally, maybe try redownloading the ruu and trying again? I used the first ruu posted by dottat when the marshmallow update dropped.

I did the RUU, and set it back up. Needless to say this permission garbage in MM is for the birds. I reverted to NEO's rom, and low and behold that message reared its ugly head again. I am beginning to think it is firmware related.
Since I am on my second and last M8 both due to charging port failures I have decided to abandon the M8 permanently, as it is at the end of its life anyways and not worth getting another, and MM has been a horrible experience honestly.. i thought windows 10 permissions were bad
Best Regards

Ya I'm not sure what to say, I replaced the charging port on mine myself, not a hard fix at all. $12 for the port, $5 for spudger, $9 for the all-in-one screwdriver, and $5 for antistatic tweezers. Though for approximately $40 it may not be worth it to you. I'm hoping the next htc phone has an IR blaster, so I'm going to run this device into the ground.
But I have no idea what could be causing your sms issues. My guess it would have to be firmware related, possibly area specific. On stock I haven't really noticed any problems.

The HTC 10 has no IR blaster.
I'm a bit upset myself about this but I honestly didn't use it much.

I know it doesn't, I love my IR blaster, I hate having my normal TV remote and it's nice having sole access to my TV through my phone.

You know I just want a phone that works. I never had issues with any of my other HTC phones and charging port failures. I know its easy, but why fool with it if HTC is not going to support their phones for more than 2 years?
I love HTC phones but their 2 year support life span, and slow updates is frustrating to me. its like dropping 300 to 400 or more every two years for a phone just to stay current with security issues/fixes.

I understand your point, but what phone do you know of that is supported over 2 years?
Hardware failures in my opinion simply happen. Wear and tear on a device takes its toll. The only phone that I know have that have better support is an iPhone. Even then, the device you purchase won't be supported after a few years at most. I've also seen some terrible hardware failures associated with them as well.
I understand not wanting to fix it, but after my charging port broke, I just figured it was worth it to me to replace it myself. I like everything about this phone.

All my devices I take excellent care of. Always cased, screen protectors, never; well extremely rarely dropped. If it was not for the lack of support, and red camera garbage i would still be using my m7 as it is still perfect, just no support.
As far as iphone goes. They have software support for 5 years on average, and they hold their value very well. i decided to go with an 6S and it is ungodly fast and responsive. I know some are going to curse me, but it is my choice. I got free WIFI calling and VOLTE. Anyways I got 12 more days to decide before the purchase is final. I understand certain things about it and was aware before I made my decision
I would have gone with the moto pure, however i do not want a phablet, I want something i can hold and work on in one hand. If the M7 was supported I would still be using it ( that damn red or yellow camera crap is annoying blunder that HTC seriously dropped the ball on ).
I would have chose nexus 5x but I found out the USC-C is 2.0 speed, and limited to 32 gigs
Anyways

Haha, nobody is going to grill you for getting a 6s.
Yes, software support is definitely a reason to get an iphone. I just don't agree with their premium pricing for their handsets and their closed sourced software. Not much innovation going on there, but not everyone needs something that's more than that. I just think you're paying an absurd amount for something that you can't customize at all, not to mention lack of storage space and inferior specs compared to newer android models. And yes I know, specs aren't everything, but truthfully you're paying a lot more for a lot less.
Reasons to get an android revolve around customization and truly being able to change any aspect of your phone. I think with the new doze feature and the improvements google is probably going to make to it, it's going to blow apple out of the water in terms of battery life and overall efficiency. Pretty exciting stuff, it's nice being able to set my phone down at work, pick it up for lunch and having it at 90% battery, despite it being over 2 years old. It's also much easier to fix problems that arise with them, if you're having a problem with your iphone regarding anything related to this there is literally no way to fix it yourself. Take it to the apple store and have them tell you something along the lines of, "sorry, we're unable to revert your phone back to the previous version that worked, but I think we should try a factory reset, have you tried that yet?" like you have no idea how to operate it in the first place . It makes me laugh and frustrates me that there's literally no way to apply any of my knowledge regarding ADB and linux to fix an iphone. If someone comes to me about a problem with their phone, I always tell them, "Well, if you had an android I could probably fix that issue, but I can't fix an iphone."
The last thing I'd buy an iphone for is hardware quality. A friend of mine had a bent iphone 6, a few months ago. Apple refused to replace it for him even though the phone had no other physical damage to it. Now he's like "wow, you're phone is awesome and you can use it as a TV remote too, maybe I'll get an HTC instead next upgrade." It was bent due their manufacturing issues and quality problems after the initial launch, which to me was very well documented. That also would be something I would consider.
To each his own, however there really isn't much out there that's Verizon compatible that I would tell you to get instead. Main reason I'm not getting a phone this year is because nothing looks worth it in my opinion. Maybe LG won't make such an ugly phone, or HTC will put the IR blaster back and integrate their fingerprint scanner into the power button or something. I just won't buy an iPhone because I don't want to be like everyone else, and I don't want to support a company that locks and discourages development on their devices. If everyone had an iPhone this world would be a pretty sad place, a monopoly on a product that discourages creativity and imagination from the general public. Where would our smartphone technology be without android? I doubt we'd have NFC, IR blasters, HD screens, Micro-sd storage options, etc. Apple would have never put anything in because everyone will buy their phones anyway.
Anyway rant done, iPhone 6s is a good device for what it is. I don't think people here will grill you for getting one, they definitely have some advantages that are nice and that I think would be nice if Android wasn't so fragmented. But that's the price you pay for open source software and many companies making competing products. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes, I understand all your concerns, and I am with you on the price, and it will be one of the deciding factors as well as Itunes which I am finding most frustrating to use to add files to the device. So i got a few days to think about it.
