OK so I wanna know what is a safe battery temp? What's considered dangerous? My phone gets warm when in holding it but when not holding obey the battery its not as bad. Right now I'm at 104.4*f

I'm posting this for informative purposes. This is not to ***** about anything or prove anyone wrong. These are simply my findings and my conclusion. I was a sales person for wireless carriers for 8 years and saw this stuff a lot and I would stress test phones before swapping because I hated giving people refurbished crap for them to come back and complain about the same overheat issue. This experience led me to think before doing a device swap.
my G2x battery got hot from day one. From my monitoring I noticed the following.
1. The phone itself was not really hot. Just general radiation from the immediate battery area and it cooled off quickly after battery removal while battery would stay hot for a good 15-20 minutes.
2. Battery temp would hit 106 degrees.
3. Battery life just plain sucked. Charging it 2 to 3 times a day on light use.
T-mobile replaced my battery and after one full day of on and off abuse running 6 quadrants in a row at Max overclock amongst other things and with a thick non breathable case in the back the temp never got over 99 degrees. Prior to swap just reading and posting on xda would spike temps and that was with no case.
So before you decide to do anything pay close attention to what exactly is getting hot. Is the actual device hot or is it just the battery. Is the device a tad warmer simply due to the battery being too hot? Get a battery monitor installed to see the temp. Check your settings such as overclocking undervoltage etc.
T-Mobile just wanted to swap everything but since my phone was not hot and I had a good screen and never a boot or reboot issue even before root and bloat installed etc so I didn't want to take a chance and get a **** device. They also told me it was OK that k needed to charge it 3 times a day. I said with triple the usage on my G2 I almost never needed to charge it at all mid day. While each device varies, one third the battery life on one third the usage is simply not right no matter how you look at it.
So I say pay attention to detail before returning your device especially if your device is a good one because it would suck to get a **** device in exchange for your good one just because of a battery.
EDIT. I do want to add that my battery has spiked to 103.8 degrees while basically doing CPU intensive stuff While charging the entire time. When not on the charger it did not spike as high. After a short time after charge hit 100% it dropped over 1.5 degrees pretty quickly.

The fact that you wrote "a lot" instead of "alot" showed me your post was worth reading.

What? Really? Lol thanks for the info! I've noticed my battery getting hella hot when using navigation and a car charger. I could barely even hold the thing...

The fact that you wrote that leads me to believe you miss a lot of really important information because someone wrote "alot" as opposed to "a lot". Someone who writes "alot" isn't worth your time or energy?
Left my Captivate in the car the other day for about three hours in the hot sun, not a good idea in hindsight. When I went back, the phone was running low on battery and couldn't charge due to being too hot.
When I got back to being able to charge it, it won't go back to full power. It will show full power on the battery icon, but as soon as I unplug the cord, it drops to 97 or 88 or something like that.
Is my battery done? Should I buy a new one?
I'm currently running Serendipity VII and never had this problem before.
How about recalibrating the battery

Would that just be running it out and then charging it up?
When in doubt always post in q&a.
Look at stickies and zelendel's first post in roms for FAQs.
I'd try to bump charge it and then if that still doesn't show a full charge...time for a new battery.
Hey guys I just upgraded to the extended battery and was wondering the best way to properly break in and how long to charge for the first time, any help would be appreciated thanks

The best way I've seen, in my experience, to "train" a battery is to use it until it dies and then leave it charging overnight.
Yeah I would just let the battery do a couple charge and discharges

No need to do that with lithium batteries, they have no memory. This practice is from the old days of nickel cadmium batteries.

That may be true of the battery but is not for the phone.
Li battery's don't have a liner discharge and each battery has a different personalty lot to lot.
The phone learns the curve of the battery through discharge, so letting it discharge completely once or twice helps the phone more accurately display how much battery is left.
Oh okay guys, thanks fyi this battery is a huge improvement, I def recommend it, I actually used my phone quite a bit and from all day use only used 27 percent of battery and had data on, normally with barely any use id lose around 60 percent if not more with data off.. def like my thunderbolt again
edit: I'm on 3g only so I don't know how battery life would improve on 4g..

just to warn you.. i dont know what rom you are using, but keep an eye on the battery gauge while you are actually using the phone and make sure it's not 'sticking'.. i was running froyo bamfs on my extended and my percentage wouldn't properly update and i would have to restart it to update it or it would jsut randomly show up after a while... anywho i ended up going to GB and back to the stock battery, i hate how f***ing big that stupid thing is... its like holding a house phone.
You should probably clear battery stats and run a battery calibration app so it doesn't stick
Drive it like ya stole it!

Yeah I always calibrate with every new rom install, but went ahead and did it on the new battery once I was at 100, the battery isn't so bad once you get used to it, the case can have a big difference on the feel of extended battery.
Mostly I love the fact I can use the phone to the fullest and not have to sacrifice anything and still have 70 percent at the end of the night

On every rom i port, why does our g3 do not show correct battery % values.
What is the use of one % battery mode if it does not show correct values.
Is there any solution? Or any developer who can make our g3 to show each % of battery accurately.

buddy, i just wanna inform you...you missed section.....and....battery indicator depens on a kernel you use aswell....as cm7 kernels...(some of them)...have that bug...but not g3mod....so...
Thanq for ur reply Rkoby...I know that battery % depends on kernel.
Not only in cm7 kernels but also in froyo kernels and roms after charging to 100%, in just 5 min battery level gets down to 32% or 28% even if we dont use the phone and after that it takes a day to get down to 12% then another day gets down to 5% and then i have to charge my phone.
Even on g3mod kernel.

What i need is battery % should be accurate to its each value.
Can any one suggest me any froyo kernel which shows battery % correctly.

Few more questions to ask.
1. I have got my new battery in a plastic cover.....so I wanted to know wether it is better to use the battery along with the cover.
2. Does overclocking spoils the battery.
3. Few more tips so that batter would last longer [for many years].
Sent from my first smart phone
I think it is better to remove plastic cover as it would just act as an insulator and heat the battery.
Regarding better battery life you can try using profiles in set CPU to increase your battery life as well reduce overall lag.
You can overclock whenever your apps demand more processing like heavy games etc.
Sent from my GT-I5800
Basics 101 no one makes a product to last "many years". If ppl dont come back for more most companies will have to shut down shop. Max you can expect is 1-3 years.
Some things you can do ensure longer battery life are:
1) Make sure you calibrate your battery once in month or 3 months.
2) Avoid completely draining you battery often.
3) ensure first charge of about 6-8 hrs with the phone switched off
Apart from this you can also set up some Profiles in set cpu to underclock your processor @night or when screen is off to reduce power consumption.
Sorry dude I misinterpreted your question
In order to get the battery running for many years never let the phone be plugged in to charger once it is fully charged (like leaving it to power source all night). This is common cause of batteries dying earlier

Yes......it is good to unplug the charger as soon as it gets charged.

ummm.. WHAT, lol.
Closest thing i've had to that is, phone says 85%. boot into recovery or shutdown phone, restart and it says like 90%

Yea, note the significant spike at 70%, that was from plugging it in to charge. So you can see the uptick overnight was more gradual

I figured it out.
Or maybe there was some electromagnetic field given off by something that charged your battery? (which I HIGHLY doubt)
Battery meter =| battery charge
The meter reading is only an approximation and can get confused at times. This is why you can see the apparent charge drop 20% or more after a reboot. I can't say as I've ever seen it increase like that but I'm sure it's possible. Something was probably going on in the background that screwed it up.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I agree with iElvis. Its just a metering correction. The voltage didn't actually increase. Just the approximation of voltage to percent battery, which is just a relative number anyway, not a real "measurement".
