[Question] Battery % issue on our G3 - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On every rom i port, why does our g3 do not show correct battery % values.
What is the use of one % battery mode if it does not show correct values.
Is there any solution? Or any developer who can make our g3 to show each % of battery accurately.

buddy, i just wanna inform you...you missed section.....and....battery indicator depens on a kernel you use aswell....as cm7 kernels...(some of them)...have that bug...but not g3mod....so...

Thanq for ur reply Rkoby...I know that battery % depends on kernel.
Not only in cm7 kernels but also in froyo kernels and roms after charging to 100%, in just 5 min battery level gets down to 32% or 28% even if we dont use the phone and after that it takes a day to get down to 12% then another day gets down to 5% and then i have to charge my phone.
Even on g3mod kernel.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using xda premium

What i need is battery % should be accurate to its each value.
Can any one suggest me any froyo kernel which shows battery % correctly.

Sorry guys actually it was fault of my battery.
I baught a new one and it is fine now.

Few more questions to ask.
1. I have got my new battery in a plastic cover.....so I wanted to know wether it is better to use the battery along with the cover.
2. Does overclocking spoils the battery.
3. Few more tips so that batter would last longer [for many years].
Sent from my first smart phone

I think it is better to remove plastic cover as it would just act as an insulator and heat the battery.
Regarding better battery life you can try using profiles in set CPU to increase your battery life as well reduce overall lag.
You can overclock whenever your apps demand more processing like heavy games etc.
Sent from my GT-I5800

Basics 101 no one makes a product to last "many years". If ppl dont come back for more most companies will have to shut down shop. Max you can expect is 1-3 years.
Some things you can do ensure longer battery life are:
1) Make sure you calibrate your battery once in month or 3 months.
2) Avoid completely draining you battery often.
3) ensure first charge of about 6-8 hrs with the phone switched off
Apart from this you can also set up some Profiles in set cpu to underclock your processor @night or when screen is off to reduce power consumption.

Sorry dude I misinterpreted your question
In order to get the battery running for many years never let the phone be plugged in to charger once it is fully charged (like leaving it to power source all night). This is common cause of batteries dying earlier
Sent from my GT-I5800

Yes......it is good to unplug the charger as soon as it gets charged.

The best way I've seen, in my experience, to "train" a battery is to use it until it dies and then leave it charging overnight.
Yeah I would just let the battery do a couple charge and discharges

No need to do that with lithium batteries, they have no memory. This practice is from the old days of nickel cadmium batteries.

That may be true of the battery but is not for the phone.
Li battery's don't have a liner discharge and each battery has a different personalty lot to lot.
The phone learns the curve of the battery through discharge, so letting it discharge completely once or twice helps the phone more accurately display how much battery is left.
Oh okay guys, thanks fyi this battery is a huge improvement, I def recommend it, I actually used my phone quite a bit and from all day use only used 27 percent of battery and had data on, normally with barely any use id lose around 60 percent if not more with data off.. def like my thunderbolt again
edit: I'm on 3g only so I don't know how battery life would improve on 4g..

just to warn you.. i dont know what rom you are using, but keep an eye on the battery gauge while you are actually using the phone and make sure it's not 'sticking'.. i was running froyo bamfs on my extended and my percentage wouldn't properly update and i would have to restart it to update it or it would jsut randomly show up after a while... anywho i ended up going to GB and back to the stock battery, i hate how f***ing big that stupid thing is... its like holding a house phone.
You should probably clear battery stats and run a battery calibration app so it doesn't stick
Drive it like ya stole it!
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Yeah I always calibrate with every new rom install, but went ahead and did it on the new battery once I was at 100, the battery isn't so bad once you get used to it, the case can have a big difference on the feel of extended battery.
Mostly I love the fact I can use the phone to the fullest and not have to sacrifice anything and still have 70 percent at the end of the night

battery life warranty issue

Alright...this is not to complain about battery life, or how long your battery lasts..i promise..let me tell you my story
My phone got stolen, the warranty people sent me a new one...everything was good ...loaded my usual custom rom..and put my chichitec battery in...
But im getting really bad battery life..so I reversed to stock rom..and getting the same thing..Im getting like max 11 hours on it..but it seems weird that the discharge is (to me) feeling a little accelerated. Im am using this new phone just like i was usuing the other one (the stolen one) yes i understand there are diferent variables however I have kept them the same for the most
Has anyone heard or had the experience of a bad phone that is eating too much juice??? remember..this thread is NOT about the battery itself but the PHONE
thanks!
If the battery is new just give it a few full cycles
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
it aint..thats the worse part ..my chichitec I used to use it on my old phone...could having a new phone act the same way, meaning because its a new phone it needs a couple cycles?
Ok i recommend flash your custom rom and drain battery to below 20% rhen charge for 8 hrs the use the app called battery calibrater from app market then while its on 100% after 8 hrs keep charger plugged in and calibrate the battery following instructions in the app and use normal one or two time and let us no

You should be okay, lithium ion batteries aren't hugely reliant on cycling when they are first used but its still good to do so just in case, but ignore your phone telling you its fully charged, use current widget while charging and check 'ma' value before disconnecting from power and when its sat at around 15 to 30 ma for half an hour or so while the phone is charging and doing nothing and then you can safely assume its fully charged or just leave overnight and check ma in the morning. This is because your phones still used to the ma and mv readings of a smaller battery so it thinks its full before it is. It will also say you have 100% battery for ages after a charge but again that's the phone not used to readings from a bigger battery.
Hope this helps

Whats a good battery widget to show the ma values etc ?
Well mine lasts me at least 12-14 hours of heavy use most days. To fully charge it will take longer due to the size difference but your phone will always say its charged before it really is, I don't bother watching the ma value much anymore I just give it a good 4-5 hours when it gets down to about 5%. Youl get used to it

let it go 0% then charge to 100%, then pull phone off charger, and put it on loader again (it auto resets batterystats) and then let it charge again for an hour (now ur sure its 100%)
then use it till 0% and do the same, load to 100% and pull it out, then put it in and charge
after u done this twice u should be ok in my eyes and get good performance

Problem is i got some similar results on stock but anyways first charge so nothing to worry whit now people says it indicates its 100% but its not really 100 if i put it into bootloader mode and it wipe battery stats wouldn't that make the battery less good / accurate ??

I think he means charger when he says loader. I am also using Anker battery and I'm very happy with its performance!also, go to your settings and make sure your screen light is dimmed. Turn off, things like vibrate on key press, touch tones, touch sounds make sure your apps ate not running in background! This is a huge battery drain! Believe it or not settings can make quite a difference!m going from 8am to 11pm heavy use without a charge! Some custom Roms are also made to increase battery life! You might want to look into that! I get so many extra hours out of Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.2 , than I did with stock! I was amazed! Also don't use live wallpapers I know they are wonderful looking but they are quite a battery drain also. Good luck and hope I've helped you!

Hey thanks for the reply !
I have turned off stuff like vibration and so on except for screen is being 100% because i think we have to right to enjoy a sexy screen !
What would be the point to see barely nothing and not enjoy your phone fearing your battery gonna die ?
And yeah im not much onto live wallpapers ^_^ but again thanks for the tips now took it off charger and plugged again its going to charge for another hour i guess ..
Btw no more overheating issue its awesome !
And sucks to see it still drains while listening to music...

Is overnight charging decrease battery performance ?? Because when i come home from school i always end up whit 45-50% and i drain it to 0 but the time it gets back to 100% i gotta sleep and turn off phone because i dont want to loose % overnight and won't have time to charge in the morning before leaving for school...

Nope it won't decrease battery performance. Your battery will not overcharge or anything if you leave it on, the phone will only pull enough power to maintain a full charge when its reached 100%

recieved mugen battery today!!!

hi all i just recieved my mugen 1500 mah battery for my desire hd
i will be testing it over few days .. and will report how the lasting has been
August 24
Have charged my battery as per instructions continuously for 8 hours... After that went into my flight with 96 percent battery.. Listened to music through out the duration of my flight about 2.5 hours
And my battery dropped to 88 percent
Doing my second charge cycle as I write this
Ok so the battery actualy does what it says.... Now my device lasts all day long still with 20 percent at the end
Cool. I got one about a month ago and am happy with it. Remember to follow the initial charging instructions. Also here is a link to a good article about getting the most out of your battery.

That does matter as different people will use the phone differenrly. Is your wifi always on, bluetooth GPS e.t.c

Mugen power batteries are really good.
Operation time on the screenshot - 3d 4h 49 min.
I get - 3d 12h with Blackout ICS Incredible and standard battery - few calls, few times browsing in internet, few messages. My battery stat then seems a lot like yours.
People who get 3 days, should tell us exactly how many hours do they use their devices.
Cause having a phone powered off for 16 hours per day, it's not exactly the typical use.

Yeah thanks, I did use juicedefender for a while, but now I've decided that my display usage is causing all my battery drain. How long screen on time can you expect to get out of a full battery? That's a pretty difficult one to answer!
I'd say it depends on the screen brightness and what you're using the phone for:
If you're outside a lot, and you have auto brightness, that'll mean the brightness is 100%. I use a small app called Lux, which is - I think - the only one that allows you to map your own brightness curve, and then decide the refresh frequency. Works very well for me, since I need less brightness indoors.
Processor load while reading emails/browsing is much lower than if the same screen-on time is for gaming for example.
I have also lowered the processor frequency when sleeping, so I guess that will increase the relative weight of the screen-on consumption.
I mainly browse and do emails: currently of 210 minutes on battery, the screen has been on 85 minutes and 38% of the battery has been consumed.
The use details section of the System/Battery summary says that the screen has been responsible for 64% of the battery drain.
I must also add that I'm using a custom ICS ROM, and there have been comments that the battery statistics are not 100% trustworthy, so take these figures as orientative.
Also, I have had the battery for 18 months, and Battery Monitor Widget calculates 1200mAh capacity. Again with the ICS ROM I have my doubts about this figure, I will eventually run a few charge cycles on the stock battery - which has broadly the same age - to see what degradation is reported there. Comparing the 2 will give a reasonable idea about how capacity for each one degrades over time.

[!] Battery life - please post your results

Recently I tried latest JellyTime, CoolDroid, stock 2.3.5 and now I'm on CM7 nightly (only apps that I use).
I am really suprised by battery life and overall performance on CM7! I've used phone quite intensive: 5 h LCD (auto brightness), over 3 h Wi-Fi, benchmark and OC for a while, few games, some calls, SMS and other.
Is it normal "battery behavior"? What results have you got?
I really invite you to write.

yea its one year old......i think i will wait more year with this phone and get a new phone ....changing the bettery is a waste
i think a battery should work normally for two years without a significant drop but it also depends on your usage. if you normally charge your phone once a day it should be so, but if you're a heavy tester or gaming enthusiast, that period will of course be shortend.
i also think that buying a new battery if you intend to use your phone one more year it's not a waste.
