Left my Captivate in the car the other day for about three hours in the hot sun, not a good idea in hindsight. When I went back, the phone was running low on battery and couldn't charge due to being too hot.
When I got back to being able to charge it, it won't go back to full power. It will show full power on the battery icon, but as soon as I unplug the cord, it drops to 97 or 88 or something like that.
Is my battery done? Should I buy a new one?
I'm currently running Serendipity VII and never had this problem before.
How about recalibrating the battery

Would that just be running it out and then charging it up?
When in doubt always post in q&a.
Look at stickies and zelendel's first post in roms for FAQs.
I'd try to bump charge it and then if that still doesn't show a full charge...time for a new battery.

My first charge also took a long time. Probably close to 4 hours. Hopefully, this doesnt persist.

If anyone here had an Atrix at one point can you say this battery lasts about the same as the Atrix?? I loved the battery on the Atrix, but the phone not so much.

it lasts just as long, if not longer. I don't still have an Atrix to direct compare so this is kind of off feel/memory.
Chika Da China Da Chinese Chicken?
Every phone thread I have looked through states the same thing about all phones like ours.
New phones, wiped batt stats or newly flashed custom roms.
It takes a few cycles for the phone to create near perfect battery stats. It's not so much that it isn't actually charged in an hour or two. We are all looking at "statistics" produced by the software.
We all know how inaccurate software can be at times right Bill G?
Ok but how do u explain battery loss when the device is plugged in and in use...

Check the output of the charger.
So many variables. Wall direct plug charger charges quicker than a USB plug. USB plug charges better than a car charger. Check the 'ma' output and see if its like 500 or so. If so then you are basically charging at an equal or slower rate than the use of the same power.

The best way I've seen, in my experience, to "train" a battery is to use it until it dies and then leave it charging overnight.
Yeah I would just let the battery do a couple charge and discharges

No need to do that with lithium batteries, they have no memory. This practice is from the old days of nickel cadmium batteries.

That may be true of the battery but is not for the phone.
Li battery's don't have a liner discharge and each battery has a different personalty lot to lot.
The phone learns the curve of the battery through discharge, so letting it discharge completely once or twice helps the phone more accurately display how much battery is left.
Oh okay guys, thanks fyi this battery is a huge improvement, I def recommend it, I actually used my phone quite a bit and from all day use only used 27 percent of battery and had data on, normally with barely any use id lose around 60 percent if not more with data off.. def like my thunderbolt again
edit: I'm on 3g only so I don't know how battery life would improve on 4g..

just to warn you.. i dont know what rom you are using, but keep an eye on the battery gauge while you are actually using the phone and make sure it's not 'sticking'.. i was running froyo bamfs on my extended and my percentage wouldn't properly update and i would have to restart it to update it or it would jsut randomly show up after a while... anywho i ended up going to GB and back to the stock battery, i hate how f***ing big that stupid thing is... its like holding a house phone.
You should probably clear battery stats and run a battery calibration app so it doesn't stick
Drive it like ya stole it!
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Yeah I always calibrate with every new rom install, but went ahead and did it on the new battery once I was at 100, the battery isn't so bad once you get used to it, the case can have a big difference on the feel of extended battery.
Mostly I love the fact I can use the phone to the fullest and not have to sacrifice anything and still have 70 percent at the end of the night

Hello all. I had an issue w/ my proximity sensor so I got an AE. It was defective, so I got ANOTHER AE.
Since I owned my EVO I always get extended batteries. I bought a 2750mah and it worked great. Then it started charging slowly.
I got giftcards to Best buy for my birthday so I got a new on there. (Sedio 3400 I believe)
Now when I try to charge my phone, it will literally take 2 hrs or so to get 15-20% charged.
I use my handset heavily, but w/ my EVO it was like 2hrs = a full charge and all day heavy use got me to a minimum of 25%.
I know LTE is to blame for a little battery drain, but any ideas? Full charge to 30% in like 5 hrs sometimes. Should I order another AE?
I'm on stlck w/ the most current software btw. Thanks.

Are you using an original stock charger? Are u charging through PC?
Battery could be defective..
I was thinking if he was rooted he needed to do battery calibration since he swtiched from stock to extended battery. Clear the stats and start over fresh. Maybe I am wrong, we'll see when we answers when or if he is rooted.

I am stock.
I switch between the HTC charger that came with it and several other after market cables/usb wall adapters.
I try to use plug in outlets as I know the "trickle" method takes forever.

I had alot of issues with charging my Incredible to the point where my phone took 5 hours to charge and 1 hour to drain. No simple answer here but if you root your phone many options exist to fix this battery issue. Recal the battery would be the first option. If you are able Root try that and come back and report.

Had my baby for a little over a year and a half, been nothing but a great phone in that time. This is where the problem starts... I'll be using it like normal, texting and surfing, and will have 98% battery, the phone will shut down, and when it decides to start back up, I will have 14% battery or less.... But it will go up if I leave it alone..... I've tried wiping the battery stats, even charging with the phone off, nothing is working. I will attach screenshots so you can see what's up.

Your battery is bad. Same thing happened to me, I recommend just buying a new OEM battery from a reputable dealer on Amazon, that's what I did. Try setting it down on a table and push on one side and if it rocks back and forth its bad. Or you can just look at it and see its swollen
Mine did that and it was just a bad battery. If you take the battery out and place it on a flat surface you may notice that it rocks left and right. If it rocks a lot or if you feel the middle and it feels swollen it may be symptoms of a bad battery.

Same thing has been happening to me for the past two days. I just took out my battery and sure enough it is swollen. Thanks for input!
edit: Is it dangerous to keep using it like this for the next few days until the new battery comes in?

It is dangerous because battery acid can get on you and cause sever skin irritation. You can continue like this for 1 to 2 days MAX until you get your new battery. Try not to use it because using it more will cause it to swell more, DUH try to only use it for emergencies and then once you get the new battery clean the terminals and you'll be good to go
I used mine got a while like that because i didn't know it was the battery lol

I'm curious about charging habits of the people who have bad batteries. I have had my phone since the day it came out and my battery is still fine. I never let it get below 30% unless I'm testing a new ROM. Killing lithium ion batteries is really bad for them. So how many of you drain it all the way on a regular basis?
I'm still using my old vibrant battery (at times). I don't think that it's as strong as the spare that I purchased a few months ago, but, is on par with the 18 month old battery that came with the phone. I zap them all the way down a lot of the time (then swap to a fully charged one). I do(try) to recharge to full before use though.
Mine does it but only when I'm using wifi or data could that still be a bad battery

I run mine down to 1 percent on a daily basis. Never let it die though. I was under the impression that if you let it drain to zero you're asking for trouble. I could easily change my ways though.

Hechoen.......I use mine till under 10% or so and then full charge it. Been doing that over a year now. My wife however plugs hers in off and on throughout the day without letting it full charge all at once and she has a bad battery....

Shallow discharge cycles are generally accepted to be better for Li-ion batteries than deep ones.

That is probably a bad idea. I would try to plug it in around 15-20% with 20% being the best time. According to the batteryuniversity website 20-80% is ideal for li-ion batteries because it keeps the heat down. Charging from less than 15% creates heat because that is a low level and takes a bit longer to charge from therefore exposes the battery to more heat. A good charger and battery will shut off the charger once it hits 100% and only allow for a trickle charge if the battery drops below 100%. But I have seen my phone get hotter from about 85% to 100% if Im using it ie: plugged in and streaming music or using navigation.
Hi XDA
I was leaving my phone charging last night as usual, but when I wake up this morning, my phone is extremely hot, maybe at least 60 degree celsius(140F) for I literaly can't touch it, it burns. The phone is powered off and when I turned it back on (thank God it did turn on) after cooling down, it's only like half charged. And the battery itself appears to be normal as usual. This never happened before and my battery temp never goes above 40 degree.
The first thing I can think of it's a failing battery, but can any other things cause it too? What should I do? Will it be safe to charge it again?
BTW, I'm using the Sumsang Galaxy R I9103 and the stock battery, with CM 10.1 nightly builds.
Bump? I tried to carefully charge it a few times and it seems just fine, any ideas? I've already ordered a backup battery online just in case
you shouldn't put your phone to charge for the whole night... an average phone gets charged in almost 4 to 5 hours... hence you may risk damaging your battery.... other thing could be that your battery is already gone worse as you suggested.... it is good that you ordered a new battery. just don't keep it on charging the whole night...
PLEASE HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPED
I leave my phone plugged in overnight to charge as well and I've never had such a problem. Seeing as your phone was turned off during the charging, my best guess is that your battery is failing or your charger is failing. If you have an extra charger, you could try that, if now I would just hop online and buy a new set.
Good luck!
