Hello all,
Lately (meaning, the last couple of days -- perhaps 3 or 4), my phone has been unable to get a Verizon data network connection for a certain amount of time (4G or 3G). WiFi works fine. However, anything else doesn't work, say, for a few minutes, or a hour or so. Sometimes, a reboot will fix the problem, but sometimes it won't.
The odd thing is, the "4G-LTE" icon is displayed and shows activity (up and down arrows blinking), yet I can't browse the web, update the weather, update Facebook, check email, etc., etc.
Does anyone have any ideas? Running BAMF 1.3.2. I am in the middle of NYC (plenty of 4G service). Yes, Mobile Network is enabled in the Settings. Tried a battery pull as described above AND a SIM card pull. Still no fix.
I had a similar problem a few days after I got my Thunderbolt. I was still on stock yet. I ended up going to the Verizon store and they did a hard reset to fix it. It sucked because I lost all my data but since it was new I didn't have much on it. If you back up everything with Titanium Backup it shouldn't be too bad tho, factory reset is under "SD card and storage" in the settings menu.

There have been many problems with the TB and data/network problems as of late. I believe it to be because of this new 4G rollout that is coming Thursday, plus the fact we will be seeing an OTA quite soon they are propbably preparing the network for that, thus giving all of us all these weird problems that we have been having.
(everything above is just rumor and based on my 100% factual opinions )

You are describing the same problem I'm having and I also live in NYC. But, I have no problems getting data when I force the phone into 3G mode only.
I notice the data connection problem even though the 4G symbol is up when I don't have cell reception for a while...like being underground while on the subway.
Turning the phone off and on or rebooting seems to fix the issue. I'm thinking the phone has handoff issues with whatever tower is near by.
Anywho, I did the "data fix" by changing the EVDO setting from eHRPD to Rev. A. I dunno if that'll do anything.
My Verizon Galaxy S3 has been dropping its data connection since the update a few days ago. Sometimes it's been an hour or more before it's restored, other times it drops to 3G briefly before returning to 4G. I'm also noticing reduced battery life, which is almost certainly caused by the data problem.
The internet is abuzz with others reporting the same problems and tech support tells me that they're aware of the issue and are waiting for Samsung to put out a fix.
I seemed to have the same problems as you described and doing a sim card pull then battery pull and put back in and the phone will reboot. Then wait 5-10 min and put back in the sim card and then reset phone. When phone reboots change to cdma/lte in the network settings and reboot again.
Data seems to work about as good as previous update. And best part is you don't have to factory reset. I am going to take a wild guess that the lte authentication is having problems with the update and resetting the sim card on the network clears things up. Try this and report back if it works or not.
Almost forgot the new caller id app may have something to do with these data freezes as well. What you do is go into settings, application manager, scroll over to all category and head down to caller name id and click on it. Then clear data, disable and finally hit force stop. You might want to reboot after this but it should stop it from running. It's a pos rip off and you can get a free app that does the same.
**After a couple days testing it appears that this caller id app is the main source of problems. I have ran global and cdma/lte settings and data gets locked up constantly when this app is left to run. If you can't get on 4g at all since update you need to do the following first and foremost. Settings, more settings, mobile networks, access point names and make sure lte-verizon internet is check. I have seen this setting uncheck itself so double check it please.**
Tried and it did nothing for me. 5 minutes after following your directions, my phone dropped data again.
Thanks though.
I'm in the middle of a chat with a Samsung rep and they're system doesn't even show this update being released....lol.
Do settings, about phone, status under signal strength what does that read?
-106 dBm 32 asu
I do have a 4G connection right now.
That is a pretty low signal for 4g lte. I am gonna assume that you had drops prior to this software update but they where a lot more rare?
No, never.

Well there really is only one other thing to do an it's a factory reset. Odds are it won't help since others have tried it and it did nothing for them. Otherwise we get the fun process of waiting multiple months for a fix.
Just wanted to give a heads up. I originally thought you could uninstall the new caller id bloatware but it appears it only uninstalls the icon from the drawer so you still have to go into application manager and disable it because it turns itself back on after uninstalling.

Still on the older version. The LTE signal is marginal where I am. I routinely get between -106 and -112 with 2 bars, and I never lose my 4G signal and the download almost always tests at 8Mbps or greater. At work, I have all but one bar, and my signal is 88.
A signal of -106 does not mean that the phone will lose the 4G signal. I rarely drop until I get to around -118. Though I'm sure that these phones could have a stronger signal than they do, they seem to hold on to a signal pretty well.
I haven't lost my data since disabling the caller ID app.

Yeah it's the same for me. When I realized that turning on wifi that 4g lte would stay on I knew this app was tied into the radio. And being made by verizon I had a funny feeling this would be of the lowest quality.
Need help
Basics:
Moto G (brought in the USA - Global GSM Model)
Using it in India currently
KitKat updated
Problem:
Hangouts, whatsapp and gmail notifications delayed
Hangouts performing thje worst of all (almost delayed till 30 mins)
Whatsapp next in line with delays upto 15-20 mins
Problem predominantly occurs when using mobile data (both 2G and 3G)
On wifi, it appears fine but cant really say its perfect
But on mobile data, it works the worst
Any one else have similar issues..?
What I have tried so far but in vain:
Changing the SIM Card
In fact I have two Moto G phones with the same issue on mobile data
Factory resets
Push Notification fixer application installed with hearbeat times changed; toggled between 1 min and 28 minutes for mobile data, still the problem persists
I have no other battery saving apps installed.
I am frustrated as I didnt have this earlier with my devices on jelly Bean (I have used Samsungs and HTC first); push notifications worked like a breeze on these even with 2G
Any ideas to help me will be appreciated, I logged a case with Moto and they said they will investigate. Random google seaches proved that users have the problem with kitkat sporadically but Moto customer care says they havent heard about this at all.
Many thanks

Hmmmmm From how many days you are in India?
That's the data rate almost all network providers give here. No LTE here. Depends upon which carrier you are on? It's 3G? Don't think so.
In your case it should be the network provider and not the device for slow speeds of sync. Check if background Data restriction is not on. Tell me your state and the name of carrier. Check if any auto kill app is not active?
I think there maybe some ram issues, as you have many apps, yet so little of ram

Try factory reset
Here you go
Thanks for pitching in guys.
I am in Hyderabad, AP and I am on airtel network 2G. The issue is till last week I was on a HTC phone with 4.1.2 and everything seemed to work well without the least delay as I am only exchanging KBs of data with simple text mostly. So, I suspect something on the software side or hardware is wrong
Tried factory resets twice
Anyone else having the same issue using push notifications..?
RAM is also fine @ around 350 MB free, so its not a spoiler I suppose.
Do you think disabling wifi optimization is going to help..?
More ideas guys will help, if none of you are having the issue, then I am left with trying out the same in 3G connection

Actually the GPRS speed of Airtel is culprit dude. Try some other carrier or try atleast 3G of Airtel itself before doing a reset or downloading any app. Wi-Fi should be fine I guess? Check if you have any app that is using a proxy like ADBLOCK+ABP or any other like that.
wifi
wifi is largely okay but not perfect (only hangouts is still having the issue, but its not bad). I will try 3G
Dont understand why it was working fine till a week ago with 2G and why it isnt working now !!

Updates today:
I have not moved to 3G data speed yet but I have changed my phone network mode to 3G. I have used an app 'Network' to access hidden settings and changed the preferred network mode to GSM auto(PRL). So far my tests confirm the push notifications are lot better, I cant complain about long delays. And I am still accessing Airtel's 2G connection
Not sure if changing the phone network settings fixed the error, but do you guys think it actually makes a difference as eventhough I am on 3G network mode on the device, I am still accessing 2Gservices.
I have contacted Airtel and made sure 3G services werent active on my number, so what the deal guys..? Any further thoughts.
Thanks
Hmmmn maybe the 3G network is a lot better than 2G and data can flow easily. But am still not sure if 3G selection in network won't change how Airtel calculates your data usage. As choosing UMTS will tell Airtel that you are no more a 2G customer. Don't rely on CC guys, they know almost near to nothing. Lodge a complaint dialing 198 about 2G data rate and see what happens.
Meanwhile I suggest please use and try a few network providers so to be sure there is no problem in device as Flipkart replacement warranty is of 30 days. Relying on Motorola service centre could be troublesome.

Have you tried in safe mode? if you did and it's still the same I would try with a factory date reset.
i have the same problem with whatsapp/gmail/email/etc. on Wifi. I get notifications delayed(10min-6hours sometimes, it varies a lot) like it was on the nexus 4 for example. its horrible. I already tried wifi optimisation on/off. wifi always on. static ip adres. Nothing helped..

Anyone knows of a working solution? (maybe the fix only doesn't work on my phone but stil..)
Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone's had issues with their data not working after while and require a reboot/airplane mode to work again?
I've noticed it both with Wifi and also with Mobile Data where one minute it'll work, and then suddenly I'll lose signal and need to reboot or switch on/off airplane mode a few times before it connects again.
Thanks!
Nope, haven't noticed anything like that yet. Is this happening on LTE or H/H+?
Nope. Do you have Chinese imported or International version?
Not stop, just slow...
Oneplus arrived from China and CM 11 was installed OK. For over a week everything has been fine using Virgin network in the UK.
Since yesterday though the data has been rather slow when browsing or using apps that require a connection.
When switching the data on the phone does recognise between 3g/H/H+ but when trying to load anything it is far slower than what it has been before.
I've tried clearing the cache and even clearing data but to no avail. Tried a factory reset last night and thought it was OK for a bit but today the same thing...
When using the browser pages will load but the blue loading bar at the top never moves past the first centimeter. (Doesn't move when using WiFi either though speed is finewhen using that).
Already contacted Virgin in case there were any issues but say the service is fine.
Any advice for troubleshooting or things to check would be appreciated.
Cheers

Another reset and browser OK... Haven't done any updates or or signed in to Google account or reinstalled any apps. I think a slow and steady install of what I want and syncing to see if there's a clash somewhere. Hmmm, not happy at all

I have had it where chrome wouldn't load webpages, usually it would start working again after a minute or two.
*sigh*... Thought things were fine last night but using it now its back to being slow again. No idea what's going on. Main update I had to install was Play Services. Chrome seemed a little funny so decided to roll it back at at the time things were alright but using it now its annoying. Took about 4 minutes to download a 3.5 meg file whereas it should breeze through it. I'm not expecting miracles but past experience was far better. Don't know whether there's anything I can do or just raise an issue with my original supplier.

Strange.. for me, it's been both H/H+, LTE and Wifi that have had it happen to me..
Also, it's not the Chinese version. It's the International version I got from Oneplus. Lately it's been ok, but we'll see how it goes..
APN settings ok?
Do you have your preferred network set correctly?
Personally I've noticed no difference. Its set as EE by default but manually added Virgin's own to try.
Been working quickly enough again without rhyme nor reason.

I can confirm the same happening to me... I'm on WIND Mobile in Ontario, Canada. It won't show that you lost the connection, things just stop loading... and the only way to fix it is to toggle airplane. It happens quite often, like a few times an hour. It's definitely a software issue that I'm hoping will be worked out in future updates, or maybe I'll have better luck with another ROM.

I've noticed it a few times where I'll swipe to the left (using Google launcher) and Google Now will indicate there is no internet connection even though I'm in an area with solid coverage. Usually if I swipe down a few times to refresh it will reconnect and update. Today however I had to reboot to reconnect. I have already checked my APN and it's fine. Did not have this issue even once with my Nexus 5 or my OPPO 7A I've been using. I'm going to check the CM bug log to see if it's been reported there.
I*have the same issue. Seems to happen when the 4g signal is weak and the handover to 3g does not happen. Then signal is lost instead.
I changed my APN now, but don't think it will matter... I'll give it a go. Using Franco kernel now, but is probably baseband related. Never had issues with my g2 previously on same location and APN.
In Norway BTW...reboot solve the problem temporarily
I have the same problem. My data connection will just stop at random and Facebook and Google now won't refresh, YouTube videos will suddenly stop playing, and upon hitting retry I'll get an error in both the playback screen and comments, and also the speedtest app won't finish preparing the test when I go to verify that my data connection is severed. I would have to restart in order to get data working again. I do get LTE speeds when it works, but it seems that the OPO takes longer to ramp up to those speeds compared to my Nexus 5 if that makes any sense?
Hi everyone,
So I updated my p40 pro (GMS installed) to EMUI11 last week via OTA.
I noticed that after the update the wifi response is not good, i.e. many apps that I use are slow in the initial loading of content (internet based like ebay, etc). After that, they somehow work better. I checked in various WIFI networks and getting the same result, so I suppose that it is the update to blame. All apps load immediately in mobile data, so this also confirms the wifi issue for me.
I remember having a similar problem the first time i got the device and loaded GMS, but after the second time the problem was gone.
Tried wiping cache but no dice.
Anyone noticing the above in their devices? Any tips?
cheers,

Anyone?
For users experiencing the same issue I noticed foll:
After some messing around I reset network settings and after restart the phone WiFi connection is snappy again.
What I notice though is that in case I unfreeze gsf and then re-freeze it, the problem incurs again, so surely something is happening at that point; I then have to once again reset network settings so that it does not lag.
OK, so I finally found the culprit of the sh*tty Wi-Fi after the update to EMUI11:
There is a software bug for sure, due to which by the time that you enable WiFi calling on the device, all apps are slow to load content(besides the browser and social apps which work OK).
I have been constantly resetting network settings to fix the issue, issue was fixed but as soon as I enabled WiFi calling, things started to get problematic.
After switching WiFi calling off, problem immediately disappears, so surely this is a bug which was not present in previous firmwares.
Thanks for updating your thread! I had the same issue with some apps, but not all of them. Also, I was able to use these apps on Wifi using a VPN connection. After disabling Wifi calling the problem disappeared. The issue occurred after updating to EMUI 11.
I wonder why there aren't more people complaining about that.

Honestly? I have no idea, but it is a really sh*tty bug for me, since I have been using WiFi calling for a long time (network reception in my home is bad). I hope Huawei or even some dev finds a fix soon..
Today i updated firmware to 168 but the problem still persists.
Another thing I noticed though is that you do not have to fully switch off WiFi calling, but only not to set it in WiFi preferred, instead leave it to mobile network preferred. The caveat tho is that when you have it in mobile network preferred, even if you have 1 bar of signal it will rarely switch to WiFi calling, so it is pointless.
OK, I think that the emui 11 update has ruined the phone due to this WiFi calling problem. It is almost unusable, every phonecall in my house ends up in call dropping, so the update got me in a position to either set wifi preferred in WiFi calling and have most of the apps lagging like hell, or to set it to mobile preferred and have usable apps but dropped calls all the time.
What a mess.
Indeed, thanks a lot for updating your thread!
The downloading lag I had on many apps (Gmail...) was driving me crazy!!
I disabled wifi calling (I couldn't until now, as I didn't have any reception in my old house) and downloads work again smoothly!
(I'm on 11.0.0.168)

hi i have the same exact problem you have described, and possibly started after i upgraded to EMUI 11.0 as well, but i havent noticed before. Most of the apps are lagging like hell and most of the times i end up switching to mobile data as it seems faster (though i have 300 mbps wifi connection). Let me try disabling Wifi calling and see if this helps with the issue.

Yes it indeed helped now.. Apps load much faster after disabling wi-fi calling. Guess we need to raise this as bug with Huawei.

I guess not, unfortunately the only solution for me was to switch wifi calling off. personally I switched to S21 ultra. Even though I believe that overall it was a downgrade move, god I was so frustrated not being able to use WiFi calling at my home, so this was the main reason of me switching to S21 Ultra. I still have the p40 pro sitting in a drawer, hoping that someone may fix this at some point I really miss the epic low light cameras and it's form factor (s21u too big for my taste and also when taking photos at night it's shyte compared to p40 pro)
Omg, thank you. It has been bothering me for months. Normally I just turn off and on wifi, to get the apps to have axcess to internet when I need to. But normally the have trouble again after short time. But now after setting it to 'operator preffered' and not 'wifi-preffered', it works like a charm. Ofcourse I do not have problems with the operator-signals...
But thanx again
Thank you so, so much! This was driving me nuts. You made my phone usable again
Seems like the Problem got fixed somehow silently.... im now on 11.0.0.223 & Updated all huawei apps to latest, and VoWifi seems to work fine now, at least for me...
can anyone confirm ?
My p40 pro is currently sitting at my drawer since I bought a S21U, but I will check to see if it works.
