WiFi slow response after EMUI11[update: reason found] - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
So I updated my p40 pro (GMS installed) to EMUI11 last week via OTA.
I noticed that after the update the wifi response is not good, i.e. many apps that I use are slow in the initial loading of content (internet based like ebay, etc). After that, they somehow work better. I checked in various WIFI networks and getting the same result, so I suppose that it is the update to blame. All apps load immediately in mobile data, so this also confirms the wifi issue for me.
I remember having a similar problem the first time i got the device and loaded GMS, but after the second time the problem was gone.
Tried wiping cache but no dice.
Anyone noticing the above in their devices? Any tips?
cheers,
t

Anyone?

For users experiencing the same issue I noticed foll:
After some messing around I reset network settings and after restart the phone WiFi connection is snappy again.
What I notice though is that in case I unfreeze gsf and then re-freeze it, the problem incurs again, so surely something is happening at that point; I then have to once again reset network settings so that it does not lag.

OK, so I finally found the culprit of the sh*tty Wi-Fi after the update to EMUI11:
There is a software bug for sure, due to which by the time that you enable WiFi calling on the device, all apps are slow to load content(besides the browser and social apps which work OK).
I have been constantly resetting network settings to fix the issue, issue was fixed but as soon as I enabled WiFi calling, things started to get problematic.
After switching WiFi calling off, problem immediately disappears, so surely this is a bug which was not present in previous firmwares.

Thanks for updating your thread! I had the same issue with some apps, but not all of them. Also, I was able to use these apps on Wifi using a VPN connection. After disabling Wifi calling the problem disappeared. The issue occurred after updating to EMUI 11.
I wonder why there aren't more people complaining about that.

Honestly? I have no idea, but it is a really sh*tty bug for me, since I have been using WiFi calling for a long time (network reception in my home is bad). I hope Huawei or even some dev finds a fix soon..
Today i updated firmware to 168 but the problem still persists.
Another thing I noticed though is that you do not have to fully switch off WiFi calling, but only not to set it in WiFi preferred, instead leave it to mobile network preferred. The caveat tho is that when you have it in mobile network preferred, even if you have 1 bar of signal it will rarely switch to WiFi calling, so it is pointless.

OK, I think that the emui 11 update has ruined the phone due to this WiFi calling problem. It is almost unusable, every phonecall in my house ends up in call dropping, so the update got me in a position to either set wifi preferred in WiFi calling and have most of the apps lagging like hell, or to set it to mobile preferred and have usable apps but dropped calls all the time.
What a mess.

Indeed, thanks a lot for updating your thread!
The downloading lag I had on many apps (Gmail...) was driving me crazy!!
I disabled wifi calling (I couldn't until now, as I didn't have any reception in my old house) and downloads work again smoothly!
(I'm on 11.0.0.168)

hi i have the same exact problem you have described, and possibly started after i upgraded to EMUI 11.0 as well, but i havent noticed before. Most of the apps are lagging like hell and most of the times i end up switching to mobile data as it seems faster (though i have 300 mbps wifi connection). Let me try disabling Wifi calling and see if this helps with the issue.

Yes it indeed helped now.. Apps load much faster after disabling wi-fi calling. Guess we need to raise this as bug with Huawei.

If you know the way, yes... I personally raised this issue to Huawei support hotline a few days after the update, but I never heard from them again.

oh my god, i resetted my phone and re-googlefierd it now 4 times until i found out those problems are just "wifi-calling" related.
problem still persists on latest 11.0.0.196
was anybody able to fix this?

I guess not, unfortunately the only solution for me was to switch wifi calling off. personally I switched to S21 ultra. Even though I believe that overall it was a downgrade move, god I was so frustrated not being able to use WiFi calling at my home, so this was the main reason of me switching to S21 Ultra. I still have the p40 pro sitting in a drawer, hoping that someone may fix this at some point I really miss the epic low light cameras and it's form factor (s21u too big for my taste and also when taking photos at night it's shyte compared to p40 pro)

Omg, thank you. It has been bothering me for months. Normally I just turn off and on wifi, to get the apps to have axcess to internet when I need to. But normally the have trouble again after short time. But now after setting it to 'operator preffered' and not 'wifi-preffered', it works like a charm. Ofcourse I do not have problems with the operator-signals...
But thanx again

Thank you so, so much! This was driving me nuts. You made my phone usable again

Seems like the Problem got fixed somehow silently.... im now on 11.0.0.223 & Updated all huawei apps to latest, and VoWifi seems to work fine now, at least for me...
can anyone confirm ?

My p40 pro is currently sitting at my drawer since I bought a S21U, but I will check to see if it works.

[Q] Anyone else randomly have their data stop working?

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone's had issues with their data not working after while and require a reboot/airplane mode to work again?
I've noticed it both with Wifi and also with Mobile Data where one minute it'll work, and then suddenly I'll lose signal and need to reboot or switch on/off airplane mode a few times before it connects again.
Thanks!
Nope, haven't noticed anything like that yet. Is this happening on LTE or H/H+?
Nope. Do you have Chinese imported or International version?
Not stop, just slow...
Oneplus arrived from China and CM 11 was installed OK. For over a week everything has been fine using Virgin network in the UK.
Since yesterday though the data has been rather slow when browsing or using apps that require a connection.
When switching the data on the phone does recognise between 3g/H/H+ but when trying to load anything it is far slower than what it has been before.
I've tried clearing the cache and even clearing data but to no avail. Tried a factory reset last night and thought it was OK for a bit but today the same thing...
When using the browser pages will load but the blue loading bar at the top never moves past the first centimeter. (Doesn't move when using WiFi either though speed is finewhen using that).
Already contacted Virgin in case there were any issues but say the service is fine.
Any advice for troubleshooting or things to check would be appreciated.
Cheers

Another reset and browser OK... Haven't done any updates or or signed in to Google account or reinstalled any apps. I think a slow and steady install of what I want and syncing to see if there's a clash somewhere. Hmmm, not happy at all

I have had it where chrome wouldn't load webpages, usually it would start working again after a minute or two.
*sigh*... Thought things were fine last night but using it now its back to being slow again. No idea what's going on. Main update I had to install was Play Services. Chrome seemed a little funny so decided to roll it back at at the time things were alright but using it now its annoying. Took about 4 minutes to download a 3.5 meg file whereas it should breeze through it. I'm not expecting miracles but past experience was far better. Don't know whether there's anything I can do or just raise an issue with my original supplier.

Strange.. for me, it's been both H/H+, LTE and Wifi that have had it happen to me..
Also, it's not the Chinese version. It's the International version I got from Oneplus. Lately it's been ok, but we'll see how it goes..
APN settings ok?
Do you have your preferred network set correctly?
Personally I've noticed no difference. Its set as EE by default but manually added Virgin's own to try.
Been working quickly enough again without rhyme nor reason.

I can confirm the same happening to me... I'm on WIND Mobile in Ontario, Canada. It won't show that you lost the connection, things just stop loading... and the only way to fix it is to toggle airplane. It happens quite often, like a few times an hour. It's definitely a software issue that I'm hoping will be worked out in future updates, or maybe I'll have better luck with another ROM.

I've noticed it a few times where I'll swipe to the left (using Google launcher) and Google Now will indicate there is no internet connection even though I'm in an area with solid coverage. Usually if I swipe down a few times to refresh it will reconnect and update. Today however I had to reboot to reconnect. I have already checked my APN and it's fine. Did not have this issue even once with my Nexus 5 or my OPPO 7A I've been using. I'm going to check the CM bug log to see if it's been reported there.
I*have the same issue. Seems to happen when the 4g signal is weak and the handover to 3g does not happen. Then signal is lost instead.
I changed my APN now, but don't think it will matter... I'll give it a go. Using Franco kernel now, but is probably baseband related. Never had issues with my g2 previously on same location and APN.
In Norway BTW...reboot solve the problem temporarily
I have the same problem. My data connection will just stop at random and Facebook and Google now won't refresh, YouTube videos will suddenly stop playing, and upon hitting retry I'll get an error in both the playback screen and comments, and also the speedtest app won't finish preparing the test when I go to verify that my data connection is severed. I would have to restart in order to get data working again. I do get LTE speeds when it works, but it seems that the OPO takes longer to ramp up to those speeds compared to my Nexus 5 if that makes any sense?

Nearby wifi portal causes constant reboots/restarts

Hi, I am trying to get an idea of how many people this is affecting.
I am on my second T-Mobile Galaxy S6. The first unit had a hardware camera defect as well as this wifi bug. I had them replace it and the new unit's camera is good but it has the same wifi issue. Here's what happens:
When I go to an area with an "open" wifi network, a notification pops up on my screen that says "Click here to connect to null." What's strange is I have almost all wifi features off, particularly "Network notification." It should not tell me when any network is available. I also have "Allow Always Scanning" off as well as Wifi Calling disabled (not that relevant). Anyway, once this happens, I have about 2 seconds to turn off wifi or else the phone will reboot. It's a "soft" restart though, meaning it shows the Samsung and T-Mobile logo then is back on again within 5-10 seconds and fully "booted" within 30 seconds. This will keep happening until I turn off wifi.
It's not just any wifi connection that will cause the issue. I think it has to be an "open" connection that uses a portal for authentication (think universities, hotels, airports, etc). Recently, I clicked on one of the notifications (connect ot null) and saw a Cisco portal. I am not sure if it's isolated to Cisco AP's
I have found about 4 people so far that have reported this issue. I am guessing we are not the only ones. I am guessing it's a software issue.
Have you seen this?
Yes, I have the exact same issue. Sadly I dont know why it's doing it or how to prevent it. I'm located in the Netherlands and when I click login the browser directs me to a KPN Fon login page.

I am very confused what's causing this. Can you confirm what settings you have enabled or disabled? Wifi calling, advanced switching, always scanning, etc? I disable everything and still get it. So it seems like it's not just Cisco login pages. It's also FON. Do you have any areas in your city that have public wifi hotspots with login pages like McDonald's or Starbucks or a university? It'd be great to see if it happens at those locations too.
I don't have wifi calling, advanced switching is disabled, always scanning is on, keep wifi alive in sleep is on. I will check when in the neighborhood of public wifi spots. to see what's happening. Only solution for me now is not using wifi, but that's not very desirable. Have you contacted Samsung about the problem?

Yes they told me the same things you'd expect. First they said to restart the device. Then clear cache. Then try safe mode. Then finally to do a factory restore. None of these items work. Just curious, is there any way you can easily give me a dump (plain text list) of your apps installed, in a PM? I wonder if it's something software related. I can do the same but I just need to find a tool that can do it.
Edit: I found an app called "List My Apps" in the Play Store. I can't link you because I don't have enough posts under my name. Hopefully I can send you a PM with my list to compare.
wifi null and reboot Samsung galaxy s6
I have the same problem like other guys. My S6 reboot continously when the wifi is on and I am I'm the City ( Zürich -Switzerland)
Then only solution was to switch of the wi fi.
Anybody else expierencing the same issue?
Regards
I'm having the exact same issue. AT&T Galaxy S6 in Southern California.
How do we get this fixed? It's not limited to a provider (that's good).
I already exchanged a unit for the camera issue. I think I am probably past my date for another exchange and quite frankly the first one was such a pain to go through, I'd prefer not to. Anyone have any ideas? I am guessing it's some sort of software issue. Something trips it up when the phone is near a captive portal.
I'm not sure swapping units will help. I did that but it didn't fix it sadly. I contacted SamsungNL and they told me to go to a Samsung repair center to show them the problem. I will try to do that next week. Until then, mobile data only.
Hi guys,
I have contacted Samsung UK and they told me to bring the phone back and ask for a new one. This is not normal and we need a replace.
In the meantime I have try to install FXR wifi Fix and Rescue from play store. Did a reset of my WiFi with this app and since then Its working everything ok. No more Reboots in the last 5 Hours. I was also in public and crossed a lot of open networks but did not report more this issue.
Give it a try.

Samsung UK support are idiots. Seriously, they tell you to return the device for software faults. I contacted them about the LTE signal showing incorrect in the settings, a clear software fault, they said to return the device.
Honestly, Samsung support is useless.
I think no way to stop it atm bcoz it is a software issue, we'll need to wait for an update. I think the baseband of wifi/bluetooth is still not stable, today I heavily played with bluetooth and got a soft reboot too.
Luckily, my HK firmware got no wifi calling and any bugs, my wifi is fine.

This seems to be working. I also ran it and it fixed the problem. I think this points towards a faulty wifi database or something.

Thanks for posting this. It's the first attempt at a solution I have found. I am going to have to agree with others and say that replacing your device did nothing to help solve the issue. I think its a software issue, perhaps with the wifi drivers or database. I tried running FXR but I won't know if it worked til I get near a captive portal. Keep this thread going guys. This problem is frustrating as heck.
So guys,
I am Happy. In the last week (After I ran the FXR app) looks like the problem is solved for me. No one reboot and any problem with. Null or open networks.
Got 920f model but im not sure is the wifi problem on my phone or not. Phone keep rebooting itself in my pocket. 10 reboots minimum during the day. Tryed flashing another rom but same nothing changet. Not sure its a hardware problem or software.
Will a replacement fix this issue? I'm about to do it tomorrow. But I'd rather not do it if it's not necessary.
UPDATE: I replaced the phone, it did not fix the issue. Seems like we need to wait for an update, unless I am extremely unlucky.

I took replaced my device, but for a real camera issue, not the wifi bug. I agree with Stolpler, running the FXR app completely fixed the issue for me.
For those new to this thread/issue, let me try to explain what's going on and why a phone replacement doesn't work.
The issue is entirely software and I think what's happening is that for some reason, a small amount of us have some corrupted entries in our wireless login database. We all know that if you get a new Android phone and sign into your Google account, all your saved wifi credentials (home, work, school, etc) will be automatically migrated over. That's why you don't have to re-enter your wifi password. For some reason, one of these entries must have gotten corrupted for some reason. Another possibility is for some reason, the way the S6 expects the data/format is different than how Android normally stores it. So say you had an entry from your Nexus 5 for a hotel login. Then now that you're on your S6, it tries to read it and it doesn't like the format so it blows up.
Now, the reason why a phone swap won't work is the moment you sign in with your Google account, it will transfer over your wifi database/settings. If you get a new phone but don't login (ever) to your Google account, I bet the wifi issue would not exist.
With all that said, really, go download and try the FXR fix. It works, it really does.

Wifi connection troubles after update to 6.0

I'm not sure if this is a Nexus 5 problem or a 6.0 Marshmallow problem but the problem occurred after the update to 6.0 on both Nexus 5s for me and my wife.
There seems to be some bug with my phone while it is asleep (screen is off but phone is on). When it is in this mode, it will not stay connected to wifi. For example, when I enter an area that has wifi, my phone will not connect. It will only connect when I wake the phone. And this isn't just a matter of the phone taking a while to connect. It NEVER connects. Before the update, my phone used to make a connection with my home router before I even walked inside. Now, I can be inside for hours and the phone never connects, until I wake it up. As soon as I wake the phone, the phone makes the connection with no problem. After a few minutes of the phone being asleep, I will wake the phone and the wifi connection will be gone. Now that it is awake again, it connects again with no problem.
I have tried forgetting the network and creating a new one, I have tried different routers, I have tried wiping the cache partition. I haven't tried a full factory reset, and I'd prefer not to, but I guess I will if I have to.
Just thought I would check here first and see if anyone had other thoughts.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that is what I thought at first also. I meant to say in my original post that my wifi settings are set to "Always On" during sleep. I've tried toggling that between the settings but still have the trouble.
Sorry, my Nex 5 has not this issue on Android 6 build MRA58K.
Alessandro
Yup, have the same issue. When the phone goes to sleep, it seems to disconnects from the wifi and never connects after I wake the phone. When I go into the wifi settings, I see "WIFI Connection Failure". I have to reconnect manually. Like the OP, have it set to always on as well. I also know it's not a router issue because I've tried this on four different routers (two linksys, one Dlink, one TPLink) All same results.
Wonder if this is a phone issue?

Google upped this to a high priority Friday morning (Nov 6). The bad news is I think there a couple different WiFi symptoms being discussed here. Most of what is being discussed is the issue being discussed here (not reconnecting when the screen is off).
No idea when this will be fixed, so I build a Tasker profile to toggle WiFi every 15 minutes when not already connected to force a reconnect. I’ve observed it getting disconnected on its own overnight. This should avoid unnecessarily using cellular data.
I’m perpetually waiting for the next release of Android to fix annoying bugs.

Thanks for the update Gary. The comment #6 describes my situation exactly. In doing some troubleshooting of my own, I find the disconnection trouble to happen less while on a 5Ghz network vs 2.5. I still have the trouble of it not connecting initially when I come into range, but I find that it is able to hold the connection while asleep.
I am also experiencing this on my Nexus 5 and also found and starred the thread above.
I just listened to 20min of streaming with Spotify to then realize that it had gone into Doze and used the mobile data!
This is more than annoying...
Maybe by disabling Doze for some specific connectivity-related system app? Anyone tried that?
Yes, I moved virtually all of the services type of apps (the ones with the green generic Android icon) to the battery not optimized list. It didn't make any difference for me.
In some ways it seems like it might be a Doze problem, and in other ways it doesn't. Doze shouldn't be affecting anything when the phone is in my pocket and I walk in the house to my WiFi. It also shouldn't be affecting anything when the phone is being charged, which is when I see frequent WiFi disconnects.
It will be real disappointing if this isn't fixed with 6.0.1.
This is still an issue with 6.0.1. Nexus 5 (2013) 6.0.1 MMB29K updated through OTA ZIP pushed with ADB.
Things work properly for a while right after a reboot and then WiFi never connects until the screen is turned on.
Google Connectivity Services C.1.6.7 (2466695) update didn’t make a difference either.
Same problem as the thread starter. HTC A9 anroid 6.0. (newest available OS)
Same problem here with a Nexus 5 .
Please star the problem if you have it.

Has anyone tested with a non-stock kernel ?
I'm asking because the problem seems +/- resolved on CM13 (non caf).
No counting CM13, do you know of a more stable rom with the problem resolved?
Does anyone here have Wemo devices? I am reading that wemos, and possibly other devices that emit their own wireless network, may cause problems. I have several of these devices around the house, and wonder if that might be contributing. However, that only would solve the dropped connection bug I have, not the failing to connect while asleep but I have.
Hi mates, my Nexus 5 (android 6.0.1,M8974A-2.0.50.2.29) gets the same troubles with wifi connection but today I tried to put some apps in non optimized list of Doze and seems workig fine.
Thats my non optimized Doze list:
-Google Play Services
-System UI
Try it and let me know if it works properly.

Welp, that didn't work. Still have the error after not optimizing System UI in addition to Google Play Services.
I don't know if the issue is resolved, but at least for me, it never worked fine so many days after testing some new workaround.
So, this was what I did in my Nexus 5 (latest build, MOB30H).
Uninstall or deactivate Google Connectivity Services, reset your network settings (you will lose your Wifi networks and BT pairings), reboot.
My Nexus 5 has been connecting to the wifi networks even with the screen off for the last 6 days.

Miguun, has the error returned, or still fixed? I just got the May update, so fingers crossed that fixes it. Otherwise, I guess I'll try your fix. I don't look forward to entering the wifi network information again.
Yup, it is still working !!

MT7-L09, B522: WiFi losing signal when screen is turned off

I've recently installed Marshmallow on my Mate 7 using the full B522 package.
However, I have a lot of issues when it comes to wifi connectivity, with them being:
* Wifi loses signal when screen is turned off
* Wifi is slow or does not work at all until I disable and re-enable it
Has anyone else had similar issues and knows how to fix them? I tried flashing B522 again, but that didn't solve the problems.

yes, I have.
it would become slow.
I've been told in other thread to factory reset it after the upgrade.
I'm doing it right now.. so i'll tell you of my results in a few days..
Have you guys enabled WiFi in standby mode? For me it was disabled by default, maybe it fixes your problem.
Wifi in standby is enabled, yeah.
I got it to work temporarily by going into Advanced Settings -> Backup & Restore -> Reset Network settings
But whenever I restart the phone the issues are back. It's definitely not my router because it worked just fine before. I remember having similar issues on my Xperia Z where I had to flash fixed wifi modules, but those aren't available for the Mate 7..
What's odd is, is that things like chrome work just fine, but apps that require connections in the background, such as Whatsapp, Telegram, YouTube do not.

I think I might have made an error/assumption. My Wi-Fi was unusually slow.that was the problem. Severe congestion on the channel I had picked.set it to auto now.

Wifi problem - on-off and no wifi hotspot, phone restarting - Please HELP

Hello everyone,
me and my wife enjoy our htc U11, but few days ago mine start playing up - wifi have difficulties to connect its doing like on-off-on-off, and after while connect to router, doing same thing at work and home too, and I really can't use any longer wifi hotspot, and phone restart at least once a day, not very happy, but today my wife experienced same problems as I have few days, must say both phones bought in UK from two different companies and different times, both are on stock rom, completely standard phones, I am only using modified camera apk, can anyone give me advice what it could be?, I do not have even Facebook or Twitter account, so can't be related to these apks. Was going to do hard reset tonight, but after my wife told me she got same problems and she use her phone very little, I am not sure if hard reset will resolve problems. I will welcome any help...
Forgot to say we are on 2.33.401.10
Many thanks..
Settings>more>data usage>network restrictions>check to see if the network has been restricted.
Settings>more>three dots (overflow menu) and hit "reset network settings"
Have you reset the router, checked the network settings are correct (if you use dhcp just reset your router).
If the ssid has spaces or characters/symbols then this can cause issues.
I have personally known routers that use signal binding to run at speeds incompatible with some devices. Especially those with 1gb interfaces. *cough netgear*.. Falling back to a basic setup helps significantly.
A factory reset will probably solve it but you'll lose your data. That is the last ditch effort.
Hi, what is latest update for this rom?, as we can get no ota update, if you point me right direction, will be great, and I will update at least one phone, and see difference. I already reset home router, I reset network setup on phones, wipe cache on both phones, still problems, and even when I am not at home, wifi playing, as I can setup wifi hotspot and I am away from any wifi. Many thanks..
Sorry that was my bad, I forgot I was looking at my m9, not my U11. You are up to date.
My post has been edited. Follow that.
To have the same problem on both phones is very strange indeed. It must be network settings causing the problem unless you have an app running that monitors WiFi in some way..
I, too, have been having WiFi problems all of a sudden. I am not stock, I'm on viper with EAS kernel, but was running it all just fine for a while then without changing anything, I have the same problem.
Still looking for fix, but no luck so far, tonight I reset router just to be sure, but problem is still there, I am sure sooner or later I will find out what is behind this problem.
