Is there are any other Arizona T-Mobile Android users out there that cannot manually change their timezone to Arizona? This same issue happened on my Vibrant as well.
I've been wondering if this is what has messed up my Google Calendar events after the most recent Daylight Savings adjustments. Something that day pushed everything on my gCal an hour earlier...
The error is both visible via a PC web browser (gCal page) and my stock android Cal app with my gCal set to the AZ timezone (checked via web browser). My phone however... the closest I can get it to AZ timezone would be Mountain Standard (as I am able to select timezones other than the AZ option).
I figure since Google is so integrated with Android now perhaps information is conflicting between my network and gCal? Anyone else experiencing this that is in AZ?.. Between two different phones I can't imagine this problem could go unnoticed (or maybe I simply suck at using Google Search)... Could it be my SIM card? Any thoughts or direction in resolving the matter would be greatly appreciated!

I've been noticing that I can't have the phone on Automatic for the Date & Time Settings. I have to manually set it because it keeps defaulting to MST -7:00 and would more than likely adjust for DST when it changes back in fall.
Can you actually select the AZ option in manual mode? Just want to clarify that it isn't my device or my T-Mobile account suffering this bug alone...
Ultimately I want to confirm the problems origin to a degree and dish a complaint to whom deserves it... the calendar is one of a handful of functions smartphones should be flawless with. Apple's alarm issue prompted massive attention while unfortunately the AZ demographic is a bit less noticeable with this timezone issue... I also figure most of the people here (in AZ) are content with what's fed to them cause its a right leaning state (the Maricopa sheriff is a prime example of public ignorance out here)... okay a bit off topic. Lets just say this adds to one of the few gripes I have with AZ since moving out here last June lol...

Yeah, I can physically select it. Just have to uncheck automatic.
Thanks for getting back to me on that. Both my Vibrant and this G2x automatically go back to what was previously selected for my timezone when I select the AZ option while in manual... I wonder if this could in fact be a SIM card issue. Are there no issues with your calendar events after manually selecting the AZ timezone option (last question I promise)? Thanks again regardless though.

It could be. I don't see any issues with calendar events either. Seems to be working fine, I'd take your phone in and see what customer care says.
Thanks again for all the input lightning blue. Next time I'm able to view xda thru a desktop browser I'll be sure to contribute to your 'thank you' meter.

Hey just thought id share this ran across it while on gsmarenaapparently google has just announced a new version of google maps that will tell u ur location within 1-2 km of u actual location and u dont need to have a GPS
i have used it and it tolod me my location within 500m
apparently it will use the tower that ur near to triangulate ur position
its great also has a meter to show how much KB`s ur transfering here the location http://www.google.com/gmm
enjoy!
Google Maps 2.x is nice, and thats an interesting feature, but for me it had my location about 2 miles from where I really was (my location was even outside of the circle it showed saying that I was somewhere inside that circle).
I've tried it in 3 places and same result in all three.
Ah well. Nice for getting a general idea of where you are, but don't expect to use it for real navigation
I tested this today driving down 45 miles of Los Angeles freeway and was literally shocked out how closely it tracked my location. Most of the trip it had me pinpointed (no range circle at all). Some locations it had to guess a range, between canyons or tall buildings.
I knew the towers could find your general vacinity, but had no idea they could come that close.
Neat feature!
any one have a package for this new google maps?
I like it. Now I'm not so pressed to get a phone with GPS. I guess if you're in a metro area it will work better (assuming more towers). I like how it even will do directions to addresses in the contact app.
Loved My Location for the 1 day I had it. I upgraded my AT&T 8525 from WM5 to the official htc WM6 Professional and now everytime I try to use My Location it tells me, "Your current location is temporarily unavailable." I think the answer to my problem and others who are experiencing it maybe be in Menu-.Options-> GPS settings, and properly configuring the My Location Settings. If anyone has a solution, any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Isn't that boost mobile (or whatever that company is). I wouldn't want that service. Talk about "Spyware". I'd imagine there are privacy laws against such a thing. Kind of like it being illegal (in the US) to record a phone conversation unless you let the person being recorded know about it.
hey yeah i get that sometimes here in pakistan but dont worry abt it just give it another try in a coupl eof minutes and it will show
hmm well in my case it pin points to about less than a km so its great and the details are great
enjoy everyone!
my experience
i used the new Version of Gmaps yesterday in the Atlanta/decuater area. i was on the free way on GA-400, I-285 & other various streets(in decuater,Ga).
on GA-400 i received a general 1,200 meters from exits 15-11. Ounce in a more populous area i was getting even better range within 1,000 meters or so.
i also started using the traffic Feature which provided me with information leading to make the decision to take I-285. on that highway i continued get about 1,00 meters ounce out of the red and into the yellow after the first few exits or so i got a real good distance was about 300 or so each time and continued until i got off the freeway though sometimes it had me on the opposite side. (though a quick "my location" and back where i belong) ounce off and on a suburban area with stores shopping centers and sub-divisions i had no idea where i was yet Gmap new the way. with finding my location every5 seconds i arrived about 10 minutes off of the expressway
oh and the addresses in the contact app is prty kool. like if you have a contact's adress stored on there number and click it
Not so good here in Central Oregon. It is showing my current location actually 37.5 miles SouthEast of my actual location. I don't understand the BIG discrepancy as the closest T-Mobile tower is less than half-a-mile from my current position.
Cool concept though.
this is just in Beta man. im sure itll get better & more precise later. at my house im about 1.1 miles from where i should be, but then again im in the country

I'm guessing that you really need to be covered by two or more towers for the location to be accurate.

That is what I was thinking. Now that google has released something like this I can imagine that anyone might break down the code and make it so they can track any phone?
I do a lot of visiting stores for my company and the last thing I want is someone knowing we are in the area by using something like this.
So I added it to my MDA and I get the screen that is blank for the most part with the little sqigglies in the square fashion.
Now is this becasue I don't have the Data or Hotspots plan??
I'm guessing that it won't work correctly (read: at all) unless I have one or both of these.
Can anyone shed some light? I'd really like to have this feature as well.
Thanks,
Ivan
the problem some of you dont realise is that if live in a small town with a little bit of cell towers than the acuracy is not that great. i live in nyc and the acuracy is pin point, perfect. it locates me exactly where i am and the more u use it the better it gets. remember it picks up your locstion by bouncing you signal off cell towers. less cell towerless accuracy, more cell towers greater the accuracy

This is the Sprint Telenav.
Opinions on this vs Google Nav? I've been using Google Nav since day 1 and have never tried Sprint lol. :/ Am I missing out, or should I just stick with the big G? lol.
I used google too but then I heard that sprint is better... and it is.
I think google navigation is way better....I used to use sprint navigation and when I got my Evo I haven't used sprint navigation since....google is much more real time vs Sprint navigation....alot of the times it would tell u to make a turn after u have already passed it...google maps it just on point....the only thing I miss is the fact that Sprint let's u know in advance if there will be a delay in traffic....other than that....Sprint nav. Could kiss my a$$.....lol....so I say stay with the big G...

fact is telenav is the best nav. now, what program thats using telenav is a different story.
for me its faster to find and get directions via google maps than it is sprint nav.
anyone have the 6.2 version ?
Google nav in my opinion is better. Wish i could use different voices tho like darth vader maybe
Personally I think the Sprint App is much better than the Google App as far as directions. The Google App may look better but that is a personal preference.
I've found that with Google, directions can get really screwy and send you a way you would never go if you were/are familiar with the area. The biggest problem I have with the Google version is that once you get outside of larger metro areas the actual maps are not as accurate. I don't know the source of the maps but I have found that Google has many more "paper" streets. Paper streets are street that do not physically exist. At some point design plans were approved but the road was never constructed. Unless you like offroading, it gets really annoying when it tells you to turn but there isn't a road!
It's easy to choose what app you like better as they can both be run at the same time. You can't make both of them show up on the screen at the same time but you can switch between the 2 by swiping down the task bar. Give that a try and see which one is better for where you live.
I prefer Google nav. It is accurate in my area, and it seems to integrate into the system better. When I get a calendar invite, p.o., or any kind of addy in Outlook, I copy, open up my iGoogle home page, paste it into the map widget, and the highlight the star. When I get in the car its on my phone. With Telenav you have to log onto thier website and add the address manually. You can still copy/paste but you have to go back and forth first copying the street address, then the city/state/zip, and then give it a label. If I have a meeting at XYZ mall - 7777 anyroad anytown, usa 77777 I can copy/paste the whole thing into maps and it will show up on my phone labeled with the phone number, mall hours, the ability to search for a restaurant/hotel nearby, etc.

I like them both.
telenav is cool is because it saves the no toll/hov/traffic option, the three route options come up before you start, it reroutes around traffic, and the voice is better (except for the few random streets in that weird voice.
Google navigation has the advantage of being integrated with other apps better, and it looks better. It also doesn't repeat the same upcoming direction an annoying amount of times like telenav.
Question - has telenav ever told you tour destination was in the middle of a freeway? Google navigation has done that to me more than a few times.
Now that we have a new TELENAV version for SPRINT I saw someone say you need the premium version @ $4.99 a moth for it to do traffic routing? I dont see that listed as a premium feature... is anyone paying for the premium features and is it worth it? what exactly do you get (anything different that what you see when you click GET PREMIUM??)
Thanks ...
As anyone who uses IMAP on a Gingerbread or earlier ROM will tell you, mail sent from the phone is NOT synchronized to the server, completely contrary to the intent of that protocol. Might as well be using POP instead.
It looks like that problem has been solved with ICS. I was wondering if its possible to somehow get the native ICS mail app installed on an earlier ROM, and if so, how one might go about doing so.

Nope. I think you're mistaken. Messages sent from the handset are stored on the machine, and are not uploaded to the server. This is a known Android big which has been fixed in ICS, but is still a problem for earlier versions.
If you are in fact correct, then it sounds like your IT department might have found a workaround. Speak with them and confirm Can you ask them what they did?

Here is the answer. IMAP saves sent items in an inbox.sent folder and outlook saves sent items in a sent items folder. Usually only one of these is selected in the folder options.
Go to your outlook (I assume you use outlook) and go to Tools, Account Settings, double click on the email account, select the folders tab and look for sent items and sent folders. One will be checked and the other will not be. Add a check to whichever is not checked so both are selected, you should be done. Hope this helps.

Here's where I think you're mistaken.
Android versions prior to ICS do NOT save outgoing messages to the server through the native email app. This is a known problem. Check the below post for my comments, and google 'android not saving IMAP sent' or terms similar, and you'll see what I mean.

It's not pointless for those of us who have the problem, unless you're suggesting that all the people in these threads are suffering from the same mass delusion. Really?
I think I've had about enough of your attitude.
You have no technical background yourself, you tell me that your IT department did 'something' to make it work and then have the temerity to suggest I'm either too ignorant or too lazy to try your idea. Obviously I've been through all your 'suggestions' otherwise I wouldn't have posted the links which YOU obviously haven't bothered looking at yourself.
This is a known Android problem and if you can't help answer the question about how to get the ICS native email app to function properly on a Gingerbread ROM, then please spare me any of your further inane posts.
Wow! Sorry to but in but the forums are a little slow and I am bored. Just had ankle surgery and few inches of snow on the ground has me stuck inside. Bill, geologistguy did offer help with a workable solution. Googling the net has shown that what he has stated has worked for some. And I really don't see where he gave you any attitude. Seems your anger needs directed at the android OS and not him.

Wow. Seems everyone is an analyst today.
Ok, here's the point.
His solution is NOT workable. Not on this ROM or handset, at least, and there's ample evidence provided to that end.
When someone doesn't read the post to apprehend the problem, answers a question that isn't asked, makes assumptions about what you've tried or not tried, offers tips that are not germane to the question (IMAP sent items not synchronizing to the server from Android has nothing to do with Outlook configuration) and then uses the words "this is pointless" and subsequently "look, I told you the answer" when given specific links to research the problem, then THAT'S where the attitude is. And I'll thank YOU to please not exacerbate the situation.
That said, hope your ankle is feeling better... it gives you a great reason to not have to shovel the snow. ;-)
Have you tried that K-9 email application? I know we shouldn't have to have another 3rd party app to do what stock should but from I seen in my searching it does what you want. Also gives your battery some exercise too. Gets good reviews and it is free.

I agree with your point. Actually, I've been using Enhanced Email which is quite nice, but has some shortcomings. The native app, given its tight integration with the OS and more robust synchronization settings, would likely be the better choice. That's why I've been on a search to find a fix for the native app, or find a way to 'port' the new (properly functioning) native Email app from ICS to Gingerbread.
Gotcha! Keep your fingers crossed as you never know what might happen on XDA. Just yesterday I finally updated to a new 2.3.5 ROM from the WCX Illuminati Series. I was using an almost stock version of 2.3.3 from Juicy. But evidentally this new ROM supports the MAP bluetooth protocol. So now my text messages and possibly my emails may be seen on my truck Headunit when they come in. Haven't tried it yet for obvious reasons though.

This is kinda disconcerting...
To use that on android you'd have to give the apps permission to use mic etcetera in first place but even so its very bad. Surely they could usr such tech to spy on people which would make the tinfoil hat guys sound less paranoid as it seems a big step down the slope to no privacy.

I think google has gone the wrong direction and has pushed things to far. I have not agreed to the new TOS on any google product and will most likely be switching to a phone that supports linux.
The thing that bothers me the most are the apps I purchased thru google market not functioning. Google changed the rules with now way to opt out, not the writers of the software or I. Doesn't seem right somehow. Kinda like buying a book and having it erased off your Kindle by Amazon after being purchased.

As I understand it if this tech was employed then changing those apps wouldn't matter as the mic would be checked for any ad funded application and presumably any website with googles ads on.
Its important to note this tech isn't used just patented. Lots of people patent such things but don't always use it. Apple for example patented a way to force their products to deactivate camera and microphone with an invisible signal so you could be prevented using your iphone etc from recording or filming things they don't want you to...but they haven't used it yet either.

Hi, I've been trying to resolve this problem for some time now with no success. I've noticed that our phones (P999s using CM7) change from Pacific Standard time to Mountain Standard time in the spring, instead of Pacific Daylight time. MST is -7, just as with PDT, but it throws off the calendar and other date apps. We're using ClockSync to compensate during daylight savings time but it's not the ideal solution. I'd thought it might be a carrier issue, but the same thing happens when using automatic time set on the roaming partners. Any thoughts?

I was having the same issue on two of the five p999's I've got (cm7 and stock). Talked to T-Mobile about it and they were unable to figure out out either. Have up and went with ntp for time sync.

How about setting the timezone manually?

That doesn't address the issue of automatic time updates.

How close are you physically to the mountain time zone? Maybe picking up towers there instead of in Pacific area?

Mine is the same. When I do a new rom and select automatic, it goes to eastern time when I'm in central. Have to manually change it.

No, the nearest Mountain area is over five hundred kilometres away. The issue happens at the spring switchover from standard to daylight time (and back again in the fall).
