This is the Sprint Telenav.
Opinions on this vs Google Nav? I've been using Google Nav since day 1 and have never tried Sprint lol. :/ Am I missing out, or should I just stick with the big G? lol.
I used google too but then I heard that sprint is better... and it is.
I think google navigation is way better....I used to use sprint navigation and when I got my Evo I haven't used sprint navigation since....google is much more real time vs Sprint navigation....alot of the times it would tell u to make a turn after u have already passed it...google maps it just on point....the only thing I miss is the fact that Sprint let's u know in advance if there will be a delay in traffic....other than that....Sprint nav. Could kiss my a$$.....lol....so I say stay with the big G...

fact is telenav is the best nav. now, what program thats using telenav is a different story.
for me its faster to find and get directions via google maps than it is sprint nav.
anyone have the 6.2 version ?
Google nav in my opinion is better. Wish i could use different voices tho like darth vader maybe
Personally I think the Sprint App is much better than the Google App as far as directions. The Google App may look better but that is a personal preference.
I've found that with Google, directions can get really screwy and send you a way you would never go if you were/are familiar with the area. The biggest problem I have with the Google version is that once you get outside of larger metro areas the actual maps are not as accurate. I don't know the source of the maps but I have found that Google has many more "paper" streets. Paper streets are street that do not physically exist. At some point design plans were approved but the road was never constructed. Unless you like offroading, it gets really annoying when it tells you to turn but there isn't a road!
It's easy to choose what app you like better as they can both be run at the same time. You can't make both of them show up on the screen at the same time but you can switch between the 2 by swiping down the task bar. Give that a try and see which one is better for where you live.
I prefer Google nav. It is accurate in my area, and it seems to integrate into the system better. When I get a calendar invite, p.o., or any kind of addy in Outlook, I copy, open up my iGoogle home page, paste it into the map widget, and the highlight the star. When I get in the car its on my phone. With Telenav you have to log onto thier website and add the address manually. You can still copy/paste but you have to go back and forth first copying the street address, then the city/state/zip, and then give it a label. If I have a meeting at XYZ mall - 7777 anyroad anytown, usa 77777 I can copy/paste the whole thing into maps and it will show up on my phone labeled with the phone number, mall hours, the ability to search for a restaurant/hotel nearby, etc.

I hear you...in the end it comes down to what your preference is...some of us like Google (like myself) some of us like Sprint Nav......they both have their pros and cons...I have both install just incase one gives me a wrong address...but never use sprint...since google hasnt let me down yet...lol
CM7
Anybody running CM7 have issues installing this? I'm running RC1 and unzipped the .7z packaged on my computer and transferred the .apk to my phone. Just keep getting the "application not installed" message.
Same here...doesn't install.

I like them both.
telenav is cool is because it saves the no toll/hov/traffic option, the three route options come up before you start, it reroutes around traffic, and the voice is better (except for the few random streets in that weird voice.
Google navigation has the advantage of being integrated with other apps better, and it looks better. It also doesn't repeat the same upcoming direction an annoying amount of times like telenav.
Question - has telenav ever told you tour destination was in the middle of a freeway? Google navigation has done that to me more than a few times.
Now that we have a new TELENAV version for SPRINT I saw someone say you need the premium version @ $4.99 a moth for it to do traffic routing? I dont see that listed as a premium feature... is anyone paying for the premium features and is it worth it? what exactly do you get (anything different that what you see when you click GET PREMIUM??)
Thanks ...

The voice sounds nicer on Sprint, but I don't care about that. Sprint says it will find the fastest route and it will automatically mention accidents. Does that mean it will auto route around the accident or calculate the route to begin with considering all accidents? I've been using Google on my G1 and I know it works great as a nav. Never tried Sprint nav.
I believe there is an option in Sprint Nav where you can have it auto-route around traffic obstructions (I think that includes accidents/construction/what have you).
Personally I love the way the Google Nav looks but the way that Sprint Nav works, so I'm split between them. I despise the Google voice with a passion, and I hate how it reads off all 20 road names (CR-1/Keene Rd/Starkey Rd/US Alt 19 N... on and on) for some roads in my area, and it seems to pick really strange routes sometimes. However, the Sprint Nav interface and options are a bit bland. I usually use Google Nav in the end, though.
Yeah, I think I will use Google nav all the time. I don't seem to be able to drag the map image in sprint around to see ahead like I can do in google. And yeah it doesn't look as good. I will try it for my monday long drive to work and see.
It's definitely a preference thing in the end...I'm more of a fan of Sprint Nav currently, myself but in the end, both should get you there without too many problems (unless you like to walk on freeways)

Of course not, when I went to Arizona 2 weeks ago I used her exclusively (on the Hero, mind you). I just couldn't stand Miss Googlebot saying "150 miles to Flagstaff" over and over, I needed some smooth-talkin'.
I wonder if anyone has done a hack of sprint nav and been able to get her to talk naughty randomly during a drive. Then I could take her on a picnic and I'll eat a sandwich and she'll get pluged in to a power source and we can watch the sunset together=)
Google, due to when playing music while navigating with sprint it doesn't lower or mute the music.Where google does mute the music.

Not sure about everyone in the world but my X10 here in Canada came with the google Navigator app pre installed.
well, the app is installed, its just won't work lol.
it's too late now but before when you try to navigate it will not find a route.
Brut is awesome tho, so I am just glad that it works now.
However, I am messing with Brut's caching function so I might still use brut's map for general map search.

I don't know what you guys are talking about but it works here in Victoria, BC Canada. I just did a test from my house to Wendys =). It gave me turn by turn and was impressed with the accuracy of the route. It was quite smooth when turning too. I purposely made a different turn and not follow and it would automatically re-route. Nice

You mean the map? It does. It would also say the street name when it needs me to turn.
For those trying to find the "new" version on the market. IT DOES NOT EXIST.
Canadian navigation has just been unlocked on Google's end. The 4.2.0 version that you have, that has been out for awhile, will work for navigation now.

Sorry to drag this old post back up but I just got my X10 last night (coming from HTC Magic) Simple question (most likely dumb) does this use your data at all or is the same as using a standard GSP? I seem to hit my data limit every month just don't want to push it over.
Thanks
Clinton
Yep, is using data.
Thanks, guess it wasn't a stupid question after all. That's interesting, guess I'll be using the GPS instead. Not much of a feature then is it.

Did anyone notice the apps Shazam and Where are gone from Market downloads? Those are the best free apps out there and it is completely gone. I feel so lost now.

Just search google for the apk and sideload it...
Edit, Shazam is back not sure whats going on with Where.
Edit2, Where? must not be available on Rogers either. I use Poynt. It's just as useful to me.
WHERE isn't available from an AT&T connection, as they have their own WHERE on their Android phones.
How it's filtered I don't know.
thanks guys. I have t-mobile but Shazam and Where is still missing from Market. It must be a carrier thing but I thought we all share the same android Market. I even tried a search for Poynt and that wasn't in Market either. I do have the apk for Shazam and I tried to install it but It failed (the same install worked last time). So I think these two great apps are gone for good from T-mobile.
I can find Shazam here in the UK.
try sound hound. blows shazaam out the water
I just checked my market (Motorola Droid running CM v6.0.0) and both Where and Shazam both show up. So it must be a carrier thing, not an Android Market thing.
Such a shame but thanks for recommending Sound Hound. It works great. One down and one to go.

I'm pretty sure you can get poynt from the website (but it just may email you a link to the market I'm not sure).
http://poynt.com/android.html
yes, it's just a link to the market and it's not available off the market. But thanks anyways.
Have you tried the market enabler? I was told something about changing regions but I've never installed it. Might be worth a try if you have a free minute.
nope no different. anyone know of an app that will replace "Where"?
bump 10chars
Every phone "shares the same Market" as you said, but we're not allowed to walk down the same aisles. Developers can filter their app to not be visible by certain carriers or in certain countries, so you may not see it on T-Mobile but somebody on Verizon might.
As for Where, there are a million of those location awareness apps that can replace it. They may not be as good or to your preference, but Poynt, Yelp, Geodelic, etc. might do the core features.

IMO, Google Places and GasBuddy replaces WHERE. If you really want the food etc type stuff, add Yelp too.
Or download the WHERE apk I suppose. It's around.
I have a nexus one running cm6 on T-Mobile USA and both of the apps show up on the market just did a quick search to make sure
The PayPal Mobile app disappeared for me from Verizon's market after I upgraded my Droid X to 2.2. Apparently it's still visible to 2.1 users, presumably since Verizon has been so slow about officially pushing out Froyo. I finally tracked down the APK and all is well.
The geographic/version limitations of the market are silly in the 'big picture' but I guess they make sense from a business standpoint for the carriers and everyone else getting a piece of the pie

I have the same specs as well but it still isn't visible in market. So I guess it's area specific? I'll give those other apps a try. Thanks guys. It's just more convenient when you have just one app that can complete multiple functions instead of having two or three apps.

Where did you find the PayPal apk? I've been trying to find it and get it from PayPal for quite some time now...
EDIT: Never mind. I was able to find the apk from Android Freeware.
They replaced Shazam for Shazam Encore now, so now its no longer unlimited tagging its replaced to 5 tags a month now. You have to buy it to get ad free and also get it unlimited tags
For all you TeleNav fans: I heard that it's now free on selected Tmobile phones, but when I found it on the market it simply says "Free today" under the app's detaliled information so hopefully others can get it. I have a mytouch 4G and didn't have trouble finding it or downloading it
Good luck! It now includes a FREE service and premium for $2.99
Just tried it and the basic service and it's really fast, i might prefer it to google nav
EDIT: Added apk, hope it helps!
EDIT 2: Found this on Captivate Apps Section, so please don't think I am taking any credit.
Apparently: "if you go to the Telenav OTA site at ota.telenav.com/tn and click T-Mobile as your carrier, then click the Vibrant 4G, it is completely compatible"
"Also, unlike Google Nav, TeleNav will continue to work without a tower signal, it will just tell you to turn without the street name"
Good luck. I have a myTouch 4G running CM7 nightlies and was able to find it on market and it works so good luck!
You should try copilot, no navi software can even compare with it, not even tomtom, navigon etc.
best navi app i used and seen: copilot!

Is there an off-market version of the real free TeleNav?

Thanx for the upload. Unfortunately it seems that it only works if you give them an american phone number. I tried my dutch phone number and TeleNav claimed it was already used by someone else, so I got stuck on the login page.
It seems that the Android version of their app is locked to AT&T and T-Mob USA. When you select "unlocked" on their website it sends you to their WinMo app.

Ok, I about tired of google maps sending my on overly long routes and forcing me to main freeways and highways no matter if there is a shorter way or not and giving me altogether wrong routes.
I tried using it today and it literally backtracked me to about 5 miles from where I left from while trying to avoid traffic, while putting me right in the traffic I was trying to avoid in the first place.
Ive found that using it as a "assistant" in areas I already know its ok, but if I actually need it to fine me a route that in the least bit tricky it usually fails miserably.
Is there a better free app out there or at least a way to make google maps any better?
TeleNav for Sprint subscribers...
Check out MapQuest as well... it has free turn by turn IIRC.
