Hi, I've been trying to resolve this problem for some time now with no success. I've noticed that our phones (P999s using CM7) change from Pacific Standard time to Mountain Standard time in the spring, instead of Pacific Daylight time. MST is -7, just as with PDT, but it throws off the calendar and other date apps. We're using ClockSync to compensate during daylight savings time but it's not the ideal solution. I'd thought it might be a carrier issue, but the same thing happens when using automatic time set on the roaming partners. Any thoughts?
Tv
I was having the same issue on two of the five p999's I've got (cm7 and stock). Talked to T-Mobile about it and they were unable to figure out out either. Have up and went with ntp for time sync.

How about setting the timezone manually?

That doesn't address the issue of automatic time updates.

How close are you physically to the mountain time zone? Maybe picking up towers there instead of in Pacific area?

Mine is the same. When I do a new rom and select automatic, it goes to eastern time when I'm in central. Have to manually change it.

No, the nearest Mountain area is over five hundred kilometres away. The issue happens at the spring switchover from standard to daylight time (and back again in the fall).

I was in California over Christmas and I flashed Assonance 5.0. My GPS started working perfectly. I assumed that the ROM itself was the cause of the improvement, but, when I got back home (Chicago), the GPS reverted back to the way it was before (slow to lock on and always loses lock). This would lead me to believe that the differing results from the GPS are not due to hardware, but location.
Good things in California...like GPS and IN-N-OUT
I just got back from California on Friday, and that trip made me decide to sell my Captivate, gps didnt work at all.

You bastards with your In-N-Out
If you guys haven't tried Da_G's fix yet I'd look into it. I'm using the Darky port rom and it incorporates the fix and my GPS is really good. I get quick, accurate locks and it follows me properly while driving. Admittedly I've only been running this version of the rom (7.0.1) for a few days now because I keep flashing new versions when they're released but so far there has been no noticeable degradation of GPS.

I live in cali and gps works perfect. When I went to arizona it sucked. Location does seem to be a factor.

Let me just lock this one down right here...
Location may be a factor in such that if you are located inside a concrete bunker the GPS will not work well, and if you are located outside in the middle of a field on a clear day the GPS will work better.
Please, read this before commenting further... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Positioning_System#Space_segment
You will find that the GPS satellites move through the day, and no one satellite is covering the same area all the time. A fundamental property of the GPS system is that coverage is spread across the entire globe. And while any given satellite will follow the same path around the planet (once every 12 hours), the system is intrinsically designed such that it doesn't matter which specific satellites you can hear from the ground.
If you are getting better reception in X state, and worse reception in Y state, then Z confounding factor is causing that difference, not your location.
my gps has been very good (both locks and tracking)
with both Chrnous and Doc's latest roms.

Oh, and my GPS has always worked out of the box......
My GPS never worked until I flashed ASSONANCE. Now it works here in Toledo, Ohio, Clearwater, Florida, Pittburgh, PA, Detroit, MI, Los Angeles, CA....no problems whatsover. I use it all the time. Myabe I am just one of the very few "Lucky Ones".
I drove from Seattle, WA to Los Angeles, CA and back for xmas during one and a half week period. Here's what I think about the GPS. Since every time I tried to use it here in Seattle, it doesn't work very well at all and I end up giving up and turn the GPS off. But on this trip, I let it get a lock even though it took more than 4 mins to do so. Then I have it plugged into my car's power, so the backlight stays on. Using Google Maps, I let it keep trying to lock and track during my entire trip. To my surprise, it works better and better. It seems to be needing to gather enough info at each location to get better responses. Now, I can get a lock just about anywhere in the west coast in about 7 to 10 secs. Tracking is still a little off. But it's close enough that I can start using location based apps again, like gas buddy, foursquare, facebook, etc. I wouldn't use it for navigation as I said, the tracking is still a little off. So, my theory is that use the GPS whenever you can. Leave it on if you can. The more you use it, the better it works. Just my 2 cents worth.
Does anyone know how OTA updates are pushed out with regards to location? It may just be me but it seems like updates on most handsets that I have owned including the Nexus S in NY take significantly longer to hit than the west coast.
I lived in California not long ago also and I would typically get updates quickly.
It seems to me that other people on the west coast or closer to it in forums also post to confirm they have received updates while east coast people are typically left posting their disappointment on not receiving the update yet.

Well, I believe Mountain View (El Goog's HQ) is in California so it might make sense that they roll it out there first.

You can manually push the update by downloading it.
I got it earlier today, after reading about the update on phandroid. I just turned my phone off and on and there it was. I live in so cal too so, who knows...
I got the Android update and market update early about an hour ago. I live in Toronto.
I'm in Florida and update came last night. My friend also in Florida (2 miles away) hasn't received it yet so I'm assuming location has nothing to do with when you receive it.

I always figured it's by IMEI number or Serial # or something similar.
Maybe people who get the update could post the first several digits of their IMEI and serial # so we can see if there's a pattern.
Just post enough to give an idea of the sequence, not the whole thing, so your privacy/security isn't impacted.
I started a poll to see if we can do this, please participate: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924985
First-come-first-served
Updates are rolled out in batches, the longest gap being between the 1st and the 2nd batch. Google or manufacturers test if the 1st batch of roll-out is bug-free and if there's negative feedback from users. Subsequent roll-outs are more frequent.
People who activate their handsets first get the update first it seems, especially in the case of Nexus S, which is more or less carrier-independent (T-Mobile being an exception).

Bought my phone 12/16, 8:00 AM in the morning, activated immediately. That's about as early an activation as you could have with this phone. I have not been anywhere near the head of the line on the two OTAs from what I can tell.
But the rest of your post makes sense (the small roll-out as a sort of test parts).

Same here, I don't think activation has anything to do with it.
I think the west coast getting them first must just be part of the plan. Test the update by starting west and moving east.

But I'm on the west coast...Los Angeles. People here reported getting it. I might have sooner than later, but once the url to update to 2.3.2 was published, I jumped on it, so I'll never know for sure.
Hey guys, I just got the update on my phone (in SoCal). I received a pop-up message while I was fooling around with speedtest. Swype, of course, has stopped working and needs to be reinstalled.
It has nothing to do with location or activation! I received my Nexus S last tuesday and live ins switzerland. Nevertheless i got an OTA on saturday evening!

Is there are any other Arizona T-Mobile Android users out there that cannot manually change their timezone to Arizona? This same issue happened on my Vibrant as well.
I've been wondering if this is what has messed up my Google Calendar events after the most recent Daylight Savings adjustments. Something that day pushed everything on my gCal an hour earlier...
The error is both visible via a PC web browser (gCal page) and my stock android Cal app with my gCal set to the AZ timezone (checked via web browser). My phone however... the closest I can get it to AZ timezone would be Mountain Standard (as I am able to select timezones other than the AZ option).
I figure since Google is so integrated with Android now perhaps information is conflicting between my network and gCal? Anyone else experiencing this that is in AZ?.. Between two different phones I can't imagine this problem could go unnoticed (or maybe I simply suck at using Google Search)... Could it be my SIM card? Any thoughts or direction in resolving the matter would be greatly appreciated!

I've been noticing that I can't have the phone on Automatic for the Date & Time Settings. I have to manually set it because it keeps defaulting to MST -7:00 and would more than likely adjust for DST when it changes back in fall.
Can you actually select the AZ option in manual mode? Just want to clarify that it isn't my device or my T-Mobile account suffering this bug alone...
Ultimately I want to confirm the problems origin to a degree and dish a complaint to whom deserves it... the calendar is one of a handful of functions smartphones should be flawless with. Apple's alarm issue prompted massive attention while unfortunately the AZ demographic is a bit less noticeable with this timezone issue... I also figure most of the people here (in AZ) are content with what's fed to them cause its a right leaning state (the Maricopa sheriff is a prime example of public ignorance out here)... okay a bit off topic. Lets just say this adds to one of the few gripes I have with AZ since moving out here last June lol...

Yeah, I can physically select it. Just have to uncheck automatic.
Thanks for getting back to me on that. Both my Vibrant and this G2x automatically go back to what was previously selected for my timezone when I select the AZ option while in manual... I wonder if this could in fact be a SIM card issue. Are there no issues with your calendar events after manually selecting the AZ timezone option (last question I promise)? Thanks again regardless though.

It could be. I don't see any issues with calendar events either. Seems to be working fine, I'd take your phone in and see what customer care says.

I've played around with location-based settings, and it can be a bit tricky. I tend to make the radius to activate on the larger side and use various methods depending on location (I use my specific WIFI network for "home" location use).
Using WIFI for location can give its own issues, though - for instance, if I was using my home WIFI to determine location other than "home", it would tell me I was in a city 10 miles away due to the ISP location.
Cell tower is probably the best bet when it comes to accuracy vs battery drain.
Hi All,
Up until about 2 months ago, when my gear would pick up automatically an activity (e.g. walking home), at the end of the journey it would display the usual information such as time, and calories burnt, but also provide a detailed graph of the route i took to walk home.
however after an update to s health? roughly around april, the gear no longer provides the route i took and just displays the area which i finished my journey at?
does anyone know how to enabled automatic detailed route tracking again? (note i have location tracking on, high accuracy. When i manually input that im cycling, it provides the detailed route as normal)
any help is appreciated thanks
I'm also interested for an answer.
I'm using my Gear S3 a few weeks now and I was also wondered, why I can just see an area where I moved instead of an detailed route.

It used to show the exact route you took (the way it shows on S health on your phone) but for some reason no longer does that only where you finished..anyone know how to bring it back?

Dont understand why they changed this (must be due to an update?), seems like having a map there of where you started your workout is fairly pointless
Anyone tested this with the new update?
I've just checked in Samsung health on the phone itself and even there it's just a general location of where you finish
