Cognition Gmail syncing issues. - Captivate General

Are any of you Cognition users having problems with gmail syncing? I can get an initial sync to take place but new mail is not retrieved. Sometimes, when I manually refresh gmail, the new mail count will update, but it won't show the new emails. To get the new emails to show up, I have to go into another label (like Trash) and have that label download emails. When I then go into my inbox, the new emails appear.
This has been an issue for me on Cognition 9 and 9.1.
I've searched this issue and can't come up with a working solution. Most say to clear Gmail's App data, but that removes all data and does an initial sync. After this, new emails still don't arrive.

Turning off automatic mail deletion on Send/receive in WM6.0

Hi people... WM6.0 is bugging me - every time I send/receive it deletes all of my old mail... Is there any way to turn this off?
Thanks in advance!
No ideas?
I have the same issue with GMAIL, but could not find a setting on the device to stop the inbox deletes. Also, the gmail pop3 settings online are not that clear on what to do?
I have the same problem, and the only way I found to keep my important mail, is by moving them to the spam folder...
If you configure the settings for the mail account to download "All messages" then they won't get deleted unless you delete them manually (in which case they'll disappear next time you send/receive). Just make sure you've only got what you need in your server Inbox....or you've got an unlimited data plan as it may take a while to download them all!!
By default, new mail accounts are setup to download "messages from the last three days" IIRC, which is why messages older than that will disappear from the phone's Inbox on a send/receive.
HTH,
Mark.

gmail has a problem that it deletes any read mail. Kinda sucks, but it happens
In the Gmail options (not on your phone, but on the webpage) you can set it to retain a copy of the mail after POP retrieval.

It's not a GMail problem, this happens with all my POP3 accounts. My retrieval settings are already on All Mail - any more bright ideas?

Android issues with unknown number, calendar recurrence, contact sync

I just graduated from a Blackberry to the HTC Incredible. After a few days of use and way too much forum browsing, I still have a few issues that I cannot resolve. Please help if you know of any solutions!
1. PHONE: If I dial one of my local contacts and do not include the area code, the call log labels the call as UNKNOWN. This is somewhat frustrating as every phone that I've ever owned was sophisticated enough to known that I'm dialing a known contact even if the area code is not included.
2. CONTACT SYNC: I synced my Blackberry with Outlook. I had no problem getting all of my contacts into the Incredible, but now I want to sync them with Google Contacts and ditch Outlook. I cannot change the PC Sync label on each contact in my phone though, and I'm not even sure if it has anything to do with it.
3. CALENDAR RECURRENCE: I often need to enter meetings to repeat on multiple days of the week. For instance, I may have a review meeting every Tuesday and Thursday. Is there a calendar app that has the capability of recurrence in this manner? I know this is a popular problem, but I have been unsuccessful in finding a solution. It seems insane to have to enter these types of recurrences through Google Calendar to have them sync with the phone properly.
4. MAIL: If I setup my "native" or default google account in the HTC mail app, it syncs with IMAP to get all of the existing mail. HOWEVER, it will not show any new mail that comes in. I have unchecked the sync with the Gmail App ( I cannot remove the account from the Gmail App), but no matter what I do, I cannot get new mail in HTC Mail. Each time I try removing the account from HTC and setting it up again, the new mail shows up, but nothing new from then on.
5. POPUP NOTIFICATIONS: I love the notifications that I get in the status bar for new mail or text messages. Is there anything that I can use to have these notifications popup in a new window on my screen?
Please help! This is an awesome phone, but it just seems that some of the "basics" are missing.
Why didnt you post this in the HTC Incredible subforums? I doubt you will get an answer in here.

[Q] Exchange Calendar & Contacts on Android always Push updates even if Auto-Sync=OFF

[Q] Exchange Calendar & Contacts on Android always Push updates even if Auto-Sync=OFF
Fist off, my goal is manual SYNC of everything everywhere in Android. I want to save battery.
I have an Exchange account with which I sync email, calendar and contacts. In the email app I set the inbox frequency to check NEVER (i.e. manual updates). That works fine... my email only syncs when I refresh my inbox manually. GREAT!
The problem is my calendar and contacts always receive push/real time updates. I have tried everything I can think of to set up manual updates for my calendar and contacts but I cant do it. Is this possible? The whole reason I am syncing email manually is to save battery, but if calendar and contacts cant be changed then I guess there's no point, right?
The only way I could get it to work was by disabling Background data. but it seems like it should just use the same sync settings as my inbox. Do I need to get over my WM ActiveSync-esque expectations?

[Q] gmail doesnt sync after infused v2.1.0

I have installed latest infused v2.1 ROM.
When I read an email in gmail app, on the phone it shows as read, but on my computer it is showing as unread. Also on my phone, it says inbox has 1 unread mail, where as there are no unread emails on the phone.
I checked my sync options. GMAIL shows as synced just now. but still it shows the email as unread. Do you know whats going on.
TIA.

Sometimes gmail's sync gets broken. Often happens after an excessive amount of time with poor connectivity/signal, or if you accidentally restored all apps with data instead of missing-only.
Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Gmail->Clear Data
Thanks for your help. It worked.

Gmail not displaying all unread messages

I'm having a strange issue with the gmail app. I'm running the Purity ROM, but I'm not sure this is directly related to that.
My dash clock extension shows the correct number of unread message. Also, when I go to the gmail app, it shows the correct count next to my user name. However, not all of the emails are showing up in the inbox. Pulling down to refresh does not make them appear either. I don't think it has to do with my gmail settings because these are all new messages and I don't have any filtering, priority inbox, or promotional inbox type setup.
Has anyone experience this issue? Is there a way to resolve it by resetting the data or cache for the app?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
