I just graduated from a Blackberry to the HTC Incredible. After a few days of use and way too much forum browsing, I still have a few issues that I cannot resolve. Please help if you know of any solutions!
1. PHONE: If I dial one of my local contacts and do not include the area code, the call log labels the call as UNKNOWN. This is somewhat frustrating as every phone that I've ever owned was sophisticated enough to known that I'm dialing a known contact even if the area code is not included.
2. CONTACT SYNC: I synced my Blackberry with Outlook. I had no problem getting all of my contacts into the Incredible, but now I want to sync them with Google Contacts and ditch Outlook. I cannot change the PC Sync label on each contact in my phone though, and I'm not even sure if it has anything to do with it.
3. CALENDAR RECURRENCE: I often need to enter meetings to repeat on multiple days of the week. For instance, I may have a review meeting every Tuesday and Thursday. Is there a calendar app that has the capability of recurrence in this manner? I know this is a popular problem, but I have been unsuccessful in finding a solution. It seems insane to have to enter these types of recurrences through Google Calendar to have them sync with the phone properly.
4. MAIL: If I setup my "native" or default google account in the HTC mail app, it syncs with IMAP to get all of the existing mail. HOWEVER, it will not show any new mail that comes in. I have unchecked the sync with the Gmail App ( I cannot remove the account from the Gmail App), but no matter what I do, I cannot get new mail in HTC Mail. Each time I try removing the account from HTC and setting it up again, the new mail shows up, but nothing new from then on.
5. POPUP NOTIFICATIONS: I love the notifications that I get in the status bar for new mail or text messages. Is there anything that I can use to have these notifications popup in a new window on my screen?
Please help! This is an awesome phone, but it just seems that some of the "basics" are missing.
Why didnt you post this in the HTC Incredible subforums? I doubt you will get an answer in here.

[Q] Exchange Calendar & Contacts on Android always Push updates even if Auto-Sync=OFF
Fist off, my goal is manual SYNC of everything everywhere in Android. I want to save battery.
I have an Exchange account with which I sync email, calendar and contacts. In the email app I set the inbox frequency to check NEVER (i.e. manual updates). That works fine... my email only syncs when I refresh my inbox manually. GREAT!
The problem is my calendar and contacts always receive push/real time updates. I have tried everything I can think of to set up manual updates for my calendar and contacts but I cant do it. Is this possible? The whole reason I am syncing email manually is to save battery, but if calendar and contacts cant be changed then I guess there's no point, right?
The only way I could get it to work was by disabling Background data. but it seems like it should just use the same sync settings as my inbox. Do I need to get over my WM ActiveSync-esque expectations?
the issue is prevalent on all androids: when using htc's mail to add hotmail (or sounds like any email), the synchronization is not quite right... if you have viewed or deleted an email, it is not reflected on the mail server and therefore the next synchronization you will be notified of "new mail" even though you have just read/deleted it.
everyone is blaming the fact it is a POP issue and the solution is to use Exchange or IMAP. there are MANY hits on google with supposed solution. however when i tried them out, i am still getting that annoying problem.
Use K9 mail. I have never had a phantom new mail with any of my non gmail email.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side.
+1 to K9 mail
tried k9 for 5mins
it doesnt work very well with hotmail (according to the warnings) and i recall i had a problem with hotmail would put up captcha (the image verificaiton) and hinder k9's ability to get mail.
Go to your Hotmail account email option on your computer not your phone.
look for "POP and deleting downloaded messages"
There are 2 options,
Don't let another program delete messages from Hotmail. (If your other program is set to "delete messages from the server," we'll simply move them to a special POP folder. They won't be deleted.)
Do what my other program says-if it says to delete messages, then delete them.
Select the second one. It works for me. Your problem should go away.
For some reason Hotmail Exchange ActiveSync is not the true Exchange ActiveSync.
ah thanks. i recall they recently implemented that feature... that explains why my hero (which was working) also suddenly broke.
edit: it works. all fixed.
now i cant be any happier with my inspire (battery could always be better)
Some days ago I start using Nexus 5. I set up my corporate Exchange account (like in my previous phones) and most things are working fine. Except one thing - contacts.
The People/Contact shows me ALL email address I have communication with them in last years. So I have over 2000 contacts (mostly email addresses) in my Contacts. On my Exchange, I have 140 contacts and it is interesting, that sometimes just this contacts are shown (that is what it supposed to be all the time).
I checked setting (what contacts to display, ...), restarts, make a voodoo ... but nothing helps. Because I have used this feature in the past, I'm sure that this is a bug.
Any idea? Where can I report this bug?
Regards to all.

I have this same issue, and it's driving me crazy. I thought maybe it was a "feature" of hangouts being on so I disabled hangouts and removed my email accounts and verified my contacts were emptied. I also went into outlook and emptied out my auto complete file so they are not there either. Added my exchange account back in and there they are, thousands of contacts that are not really contacts.
I was on here looking for a solution myself.

has a lot more users with the same problem.. and Google has no answer ;-((
I am seeing the same issue on several devices. Anyone have any news or suggestions on this?
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to share a fix I just found. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why some of my contacts would not show up in the prediction box in the dialer. It turns out that any contacts that are linked (automatically by the phone) with a Microsoft exchange account, will not show up in the predictive dialer.
To fix you can either remove the exchange account (which I need for my work emails) or you can manually go to the desires contact and un-link the exchange account.
I am not sure if this was effecting anyone else, but its been driving me nuts for days.
It finds contacts from account I have synced off AND have off in "what to show"!
This looks like a bug to me.
Disclaimer: It is not my phone, but a device I manage.
So, this guy has some connections set up, one of them is Exchange (to an Exchange server) with CONTACTS TURNED OFF.
He just wants to use phone contacts - for his reasons.
Also in contacts app, in setting "what contacts to show" (or something) only Phone is selected.
And indeed, the list shown in contacts app, does show only contacts that are on the phone.
UNTIL HE MAKES A SEARCH!
(for a contact I know is on Exchange or also on Exchange)
Then after a second, it shows the contact! It even says that it comes from the domain that I have turned off contact syncing and contact display!
So... can someone verify?
Does anybody have a solution? (maybe if I re-add that account as plain IMAP? Will that get me the full email tree as with Exchange?)
Ain't this a bug?
NOTE (no pun intended ) that this -he claims- happened after an update the device got just few days ago.
...and today it doesn't (without changing anything).
WTF?
