I recently sold my S22 ultra on eBay and shortly after taking delivery the buyer requested a return citing that it would not charge. My initial instinct was buyers remorse but after talking to them to try and resolve my gut feeling was that they were probably genuine and either way given how rubbish ebay is at protecting sellers I had no choice but to accept the return.
It came back today and she was correct in that it will not charge and I noticed that the cable does not quite go all the way in ( see photo). I have inspected the port with a light and whilst my 48 year old eyes are not as good as they once were I cannot see any obvious fluff or debris that would block anything, nor can I see any obvious damage that the buyer might have done, it all looks fine. I mostly wireless charge so cannot remember the last time I plugged it in before the sale either so I am little stumped here.
Other than fluff, lint etc is there anything obvious that can break that could cause this?
Clumps of dust can block the USB. To protect the USB port, I recommend using a magnetic cable.
bad cable, get DASH charge superfast charging cable
Tried 4 different cables, it is not the cable. I have had this with iPhones before but it is usually easy to see the lint in there. I have a loupe coming today, I am going to figure this out!
As others have stated, lint build up could definitely be the source of the problem but if not, unfortunately you have a big problem on your hands because on the USBC port ( female ) on your phone has pins and these pins can become bent from crappy third party USBC cables and you could have a bent pin that is causing the cable to not be able to be inserted all the way. I'm speaking from experience, I've had this happen and the only way to fix it is to either get the finest thinnest dental pick and identify and bend the obstructed pin back into its place or open the phone up and just completely replace the USBC port. Hopefully your issue is just some debris or lint, I'd say it most likely is something foreign in their blocking the cable but like I said above, it's absolutely possible you have a bent pin.
Also while you're in there trying to clean anything out, be very cautious because you don't want to unintentionally bend a pin when you're trying to clean the port out.
The loup was useless, it is really hard to see in there to know if a pin is bent or not. I am 99% sure there is no lint or debris in there so it must be a bent pin I guess? I say 99% as it is really hard to see in there.
I wonder if Samsung would pick this kind of thing up if I traded it in or what they would do? It is still under warranty.
try to clean usb port
I have cleaned it as best I can, there was no dirt in there. At the conclusion now that the buyer has inadvertently damaged the port, they had it for a week before requesting the return. eBay really sucks at protecting sellers.
I returned by S23U for a refund as they offered me an additional discount after my first order that they could not apply retrospectively so have ordered another one with the returned S22U as trade in. Weighing up if to go through with the trade in or not, unsure if Samsung would spot the port issue or what they would do if if they did.

I wouldn't worry too much. Samsung will likely sell it as part of a bulk sale to 3rd party refurbishers like Asurion.

I deleted my ebay account for this very reason. The fact that they now require access to your bank account was the final straw for me.

Ebay required access to your account since its inception almost 30 years ago. How else are buyers and sellers supposed to conduct transactions?

Maybe you were on vacation at the time. eBay sellers can no longer use PayPal under new terms
I am a little shocked but after going through it with eBay they closed the case in my favour.
They still refunded the buyer of course but did not deduct it from me.

I read the article and had no problem understanding the contents.
Prior to the changes payouts to the seller were transacted through PayPal either using a savings or CC account. eBay had no access to your bank account. Maybe you're comfortable giving eBay access to your bank account and the ability to remove money from your account in the event that a transaction goes sour. I'm not. and have moved on from eBay.

Avoid the cradles from seller "U-Bop" on Amazon, too. Same thing, great picture of a small cradle. Slightly more expensive than the other clunky big ones. I order it and they send...a big clunky one. Then want me to pay return shipping, then delay my refund. Then they delete the listing on Amazon, (with my negative review) wait a few days, and re-list the exact same thing. Same fake picture and all. Not cool. I put up another negative review calling them on it and it's still up for now. Amazon backed me up, though, and I got a full refund after filing a dispute.

I had a similar issue with U-Bop. Ordered a case for my Desire; it didn't arrive so they sent out another in a different colour. When it arrived it looked totally different to the picture, had holes in it, and ended up falling apart.
After I sent them photos and was issued a refund they had the cheek to ask me to remove my negative feedback!
Bump - I would hate for another member of this forum to have this issue with one of these sellers.

Bad Company
I ordered an htc tytn ii replacement battery however when it arrived I noticed some problems with it. Firstly the battery dimensions are not identical to my original battery, only a few millimetres smaller in places however this means the battery does not sit as tight as the previous battery. what this means is that while it does charge and then function, when the phone is moved the battery loses its connection and the phone powers off! I'm also slightly skeptical in the authenticity of the battery, when compared to the original, the writing is clearly smaller and it looks possibly as if someone has copied the image from an actually battery and stuck a sticker of it on top of a cheaper battery. The general design of the battery also differs in places, most prominently on the back of the battery!
I tried every method of contacting them and absolutely no response!! Too bad, I didn't read your stories, from now on I will definitely avoid them.

Call your Bank
Hey Kez,
If you want to know what you are up against, do a quick Google search for "gadgetbuyers.co.uk". This post here, and another like it also on XDA are right there on the first page, right after the links to their website.
You probably just want your money back, and you are not obligated to track down any vendor that ignores you. That's just a stalling tactic they use.
Instead, call the bank that issued the card you used to pay for the purchase and initiate a chargeback for the transaction. Just tell the bank they did not deliver anything, and that they are ignoring your repeated attempts to contact them. You will get your money back, and they will be charged another fee for doing the chargeback.
You have to keep good records here, save your emails and write down each attempt to phone them, etc. When you talk to the bank, have everything together in a time line, and then call. It's surprisingly easy to do, and it works.
Good luck and post back here again if you run into trouble, or just PM me.
Thanks for the warning. I'll keep on the lookout.
Thanks for the info. Will not buy there.
Let this be a lesson to anyone before buying new or used accessories off of ebay.
I recently purchased a dock off of ebay and figured that i would share my experience. I have been buying and selling for years on ebay. This time I got bit.
I bought a dock and received it in the mail for my fascinate. The dock was actually the correct dock as well. I have one already at home and bought one for the office. As well the seller said it was covered by Samsung warranty for 1 full year.
I tear open the package, set up the dock, and go to plug my phone in and it will not. After inspecting around with the dock i realize the USB port is loose so the phone will not slide right in as it does on my other dock. and the phone actually sits off the dock slightly.
So it had the "1 year warranty from Samsung" Call up support and the tell my i need the hex number. Pull the hex number out of the phone and the guy tells me i need to power down the phone and get it from behind the battery. Ok. Fine. Hang up. pull the battery, and guess what same exact Hex number except in the phone software it shows an 0x preceding the rest of the number. I laughed and get back on the phone.
Now my experience gets fun... I speak to a rep almost immediately. she gets my hex number to validate i own the phone. Then puts me on hold says they will gladly replace the dock, but I need a receipt and Google payment will not be covered as an acceptable receipt. Ask to speak to a manager. Get put on hold for 25mins (most would hang up by now) Then a American speaking person picks up. He identifies himself as management.
He continues to explain that the policy for samsung states clearly any product must have a receipt to replace. He used the phrase "I must articulate that Samsung return policy states..." about 30 times. I then said you are telling me you do no honor your product. he said we do with a receipt. Back and forth several times, got no where. Ended up hanging up on him.
Moral of the story, if you buy off of ebay, your samsung warranty will not be covered for accessories.
I am highly irritated and amazed they would not honor their own product brand new out of a box because no receipt was with it.
Outcome: Even though the seller does not accept returns, I opened a case with ebay after he did not respond, and he is taking this one back and refunding me my money. So in the end it all worked out.
Honestly, I'm not surprised. With the amount of knock-off electronics products coming out of China, what's to keep people from getting an "OEM" dock off ebay that doesn't work, and getting it replaced with a genuine OEM dock via the warranty, costing Samsung thousands. By requiring a receipt, they can at least go back on the retail outlet you bought it from if they find that it isn't actually a genuine dock, but that's kind of hard to do with ebay.
Also, why didn't you contact the ebay seller about getting it replaced? That is the first thing I would have done, and if they wouldn't do anything, contact Samsung, and last option is dispute it via Paypal.
Yeah i have already contacted the seller and am waiting for a response. If i do not hear back by Friday i will open a dispute with ebay and paypal. His selling page clearly was false advertisement. But oh well it is always a chance you take when buying products off ebay. I am just glad i got it reasonably below retail cost.
Sucks to hear about your negative experience. You should always be careful in ebay and verify feedback and wording in the advertisement.

Well I purchased a 32g white Nexus 5 from someone on craigslist today because I thought 420 for the phone without waiting was a good idea. But coming from a 5s i tried using a nano adapter to micro sim to work. But my device wasnt reading any sim cards. It kept saying I had no sim card. I tried multiple micro sims i even used some from my coworkers to no avail. So I had the idea that I was ripped off or I broke the sim holder tray myself by my multiple attempts with the adapter. So i took a flashlight and saw inside of the phone where the phone is and It looks like I damaged one of the antennas =(.. I called google and they told me The original person who bought the phone has to call and transfer ownership sort of? The seller is so convinced it was just working 5 minutes before he sold it to me. So I opened the phone after watching a tear up video of the nexus 5 to see the sim antenna had damage. Does anyone have a idea of what i should do? I tried looking for replacements parts to install but I cant find anything that can be used for my problem. Everything else works on the device so Im stuck. Thanks for reading and wasting your time.
Sorry man, I can imagine how disheartening this would be. I hate to state the obvious here but ALWAYS put your sim in the phone and test it before you buy it. I sell phones on craigslist all the time and I always tell my buyers to make sure they have a sim with them when we do the deal. Not saying this guy ripped you off, but it would have at lest eliminated that possibility. That said, if your first sim didn't work in it, then it would in fact seem you were sold a defective phone. I use a nano to micro adapter in mine and have zero issues. I've had to use them in multiple phones and again, no issues ever.
Did he say he would do the transfer of ownership? Not even sure google would replace it on warranty even if he did, seeing as though it is clearly damage and not a defect, but who knows. It's definitely worth a shot if that's your only option.
Yeah It sucks and I just have to take the loss here and use it as a pocket tablet for games and music, But the seller said before hand that he bought it from another person on Craigslist and that he "couldn't get use to the size" lol. So the transferring of the ownership is not going to work here unless i find the original owner. BTW He did ask me if I wanted to try my sim but i forgot that i had the nano and I checked the phone up and down to exterior.camera, speaker and to see if the software was modified at all and It checked out .

It's possible the nano SIM card adapter damaged the SIM contact pins. There are known issues with mini to micro SIM adapters that do that very same thing. There was several designs of these adapters, and this German made and patented one was the one and only one that most people on the internet recommended. This post is worth a read. http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/features/item/14444_The_Curse_of_Micro_SIM_Adapter.php
It's highly risky using any sort of SIM card adapter in any phone and you have to be super careful with it.
That article lists some places for European buyers to get the good style adapters off Amazon, however if you're in the US the good ones are hard to find.
I had one of the first Firefox OS phones in the U.S.,the ZTE Open. I needed a micro to Mini adapter for it, and ended up getting it online form this shop. They use the same design as the German patented ones and I highly recommend them. Worked great for me. http://microsim-shop.com/
Still doesnt solve your issue with the busted phone, but useful for the future and others to avoid this problem.
FYI I ordered a 32gb Nexus 5 from Google directly last week, ordered on Tuesday 2pm, next day shipping, came to my house Wed at Noon. 22 hours from click to my door. And a friend just ordered one Wednesday and it shipped Thursday night, will most likely be getting it today.. so if people are given a choice I would get it from Google directly since they're shipping fast unless there's a discount involved.

I damaged the regular Sim card tray on my galaxy s 2 skyrocket but was able to use a needle to bend the clip back down. I inserted the adapter into the phone with out a Sim bad idea and when removing it got hung up and took some work to get it out. It worked sort of... Dang cheap adapter had a hole where the pins touched the sim and naturally i tore up that pin. Then a few weeks later I got it repaired in the mall for 50 bucks.

Yea. Again it doesn't mean others *will* damage your card, it's just that those tend to be higher quality and tend to not give you as many problems are others. Likewise if you're careful with any of the adapters you should be fine.
When I posted on XDA in some section month ago when looking for a adapter, that's the general conclusion from a few posts that i got.
I would sell it on ebay stating the issue with the sim reader. You will probably still get a fair amount for it from someone who can fix it up.
Umm why not just call LG and do a warranty replacement for the device? They are the original manufacturer so they have to honor the warranty anyways as that's where the warranty lies, not with Google. Google just acts as an intermediary to get the device replaced for you as a customer service but they'll eventually send their broken/damaged devices back to LG for repair anyways.
So just call LG and start the warranty process for the SIM card slot and they'll repair/replace it even if it might take a while to do so.

Thanks, after reading this, I called them up and unfortunately they told me I would have to go through Google for any warranty issues. And they only covered accidental damage that they would have to charge me for. And I asked how long the process would take to get repaired and he told 3-4 weeks

Odd, I could have sworn that others reported sending it to LG directly. I mean what if you bought it from T-Mobile? I guess you'd have to go through T-Mobile then but still... that makes no sense as I don't call Best Buy after 30 days when my TV goes bad within the warranty period.
What about if I bought it as a gift for my friend? I'll have to ask them how to "transfer" it then since I've never had to do that. I sold my Nexus 4 to my friend so now i'm wondering if I need to transfer that one too.
Yeah I definitely would

Hi everyone,
I want to share my journey with the Z3, and the experience with buying from eBay, specifically from a seller, techno.trading.house (Steph, Ed). I bought two brand new Z3 (D6603)--a black one for myself, and a white one for my girlfriend. The order was smooth, and the phones came in pretty much brand new (open box though) with their plastic peel-screens on the glass, untouched. After using the two for a few hours, I noticed that my black one had a defective sensor (photo). The seller advertised "hassle-free" exchanges/refunds, so I reported the defect and had the black one exchanged right away.
After a week, the new one came, the same brand new (open box) condition as the previous phones. However, there was a slight manufacturing defect with the USB flap--it closes completely at a slant (photo). I spelled out the issue with the seller, and here was how it went:
SELLER: I'm sorry to hear that! We will certainly replace it for you, I believe that your phone would be damaged underwater if that or any other flap was not closed properly. (I also do strongly suggest to avoid wetting the phone just in case). Please return the phone to...
ME (after 2 days delivered to them): Hi, have you receive the package yet, and have you ship out the new phone?
SELLER: Your return has been received. If you had chosen to receive a replacement, it will be sent within 2 days. If you have opted for a refund, it will be issued within 24 hours minus applicable restocking fee.
ME: Do you have tracking info? Thanks!
SELLER: Our records indicate that we have already sent a replacement. You have reached out to us to let us know that the replacement has the same issue. In order to avoid another occurrence, we recommend that we proceed with a refund for this item. Please let us know if this is okay.
ME: Sorry, I am not sure what you are saying. Are you talking about the previous replacement or the 2nd replacement being shipped out? I am currently waiting for the 2nd replacement. You said "sure" on the second replacement last week.
SELLER: We are talking about the previous replacement. We believe since both- the original phone and the replacement phone- has had the same issue, that a refund might be best. Let us know if this is ok.
ME: That is not correct. First phone had a defective camera. Second one had a manufacturer defect on the flap. You agreed for the second exchange, so I am not sure why you are backing out now? I need the phone as I have been using an old dumb phone for work for a week already.
SELLER: I'm very sorry for the confusion. I just read back through the emails and you are indeed correct. We will have your replacement unit shipped today. Here is your tracking number. Again, I am sorry for the confusion. Have a great day!
ME: Thanks. I just hope the new one does not have any defect--I will be checking it. If it's not shipped out yet, anyway you can inspect these? Thank you.
SELLER: Hello, Not a problem.

So the 2nd replacement came (third phone), and the phone came in a used/open condition. There were no plastic peel-screens on either side of the glass and the USB wire was laying in there without its plastic wrappers. I knew immediately this was used, so I began close inspection of the phone. I found that the power button had a noticeable dent on one side, as if it was dropped on a table before. At this point, I don't know what to do with the phone. I have summoned the seller to see what they plan to do with this situation.
It appears that the seller recycles their returned phones and try to sell them as new, or whatever it is. I am extremely disappointed with this seller, and I want others to know so they may not fall into the same trap.
I checked the current feedback, and it appears someone had the same situation (photo). Go figure!
To me this sounds like a fair seller and a picky buyer. 832 positive reviews and 6 negative ones in a month is a ratio I would buy at if I wanted to save a hundred bucks by buying without factory warranty.
It could have been an honest mistake. I doubt he purposely gave you an opened one, just work with him to solve the problem. eBay is much harder on sellers than buyers and he would ruin his reputation if he did it on purpose. Looking at his rating I would say it was an honest mistake.
I understand if he wants to refund you, he is just trying to cut his losses. At the same time it was your misfortune to get a bad device/s. Since this phone is known for cosmetic/other issues as its in early production you are better of buying from Sony/carrier making replacement easier.

If you want, just buy it from Sony store. I got mine and it's perfect so far (except some cosmetic minor faults).
I bought two phones directly from the same seller. The price was cheaper on their own site vs eBay or Amazon. Both phones are perfect. They came in non sealed boxes. I've got no complaints.

To me this sounds like a fair seller and a picky buyer. 832 positive reviews and 6 negative ones in a month is a ratio I would buy at if I wanted to save a hundred bucks by buying without factory warranty.

I may be a picky buyer, but who wouldn't be when you receive a defective product, and even worse when you get a used one on your third one. Feedbacks mean jack when you are on the short end. They are only good for initial decision about the seller, hence I trust them like you would too.

I hope you are right on the honest mistake.

Yeah, I really regret not buying from Sony store, or even T-Mobile here. At this point, I might just say screw it, keep the phone, and move on with my life. Maybe the Z4 will entice me in few months. :good:
I purchased 3 different Z3 D6603 from Techno Trading, Never-MSRP, and Sony Direct all off ebay.
Techno Trading shipping a Central America version of the D6603 (White) to me and it had no seals whatsoever on the box (US Charger). This model would not show LTE indicator until I flashed a generic TFT. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in Spanish but quickly changes to English. Seller Feedack: Shipped very quickly but using subpar shipping materials. Shipped from Miami.
Never-MSRP shipped a Central Europe version of the D6603 (Copper) to me and it HAD seals on the box but also included a Sony Screen Protector (Non-US Charger). This model had the LTE indicator from start. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in English. Seller Feedback: Shipped same day and was packaged very well. Unfortunately, they are located in Houston so I had to pay tax.
Sony Direct shipped a Generic North American model of the D6603 (Green) to me. This one had seals on the box but didn't include the Screen Protector. LTE shows from start and includes a US Charger. Plastic on the front and back of phone is totally different than the other two. Its hard to describe but the other phones came with a very very thin plastic protector. This model shipped with much thicker protectors on front and back (still meant to be removed because they have tabs on the side). Additionally, the other two phones were inside a cellophane bag but the this model was not in cellophane. Shipped from Sony in Romeoville IL. Shipped within two hours of purchase using FedEx for free. Unfortunately, Sony charges tax everywhere. Packaged well but not great.
My point...
Sony packages models different based on their intended destination. It might not be that you ever got "open box" devices but rather they were intended for an area which Sony (for whatever reason) chose not to use seals.

That is interesting. Before buying from techno, I bought a white one from tropical_mobile (in which I sold quickly due to being D6653), who stated they were located in Tennessee, but shipped from Singapore. However, the phone was sealed with two white rounded "sealed" stickers on the box. The phone also was sealed in a clear plastic slip and had protective screens on both sides.
This whole Z3 deal has been pretty bad luck for me. Maybe it is not meant to be. But good news--the seller techno.trading.house got back to me, and is willing to refund me $20 for the dented power button, or do another replacement. I'm planning to take the refund, and live with it as I am sick of all the exchanges. Who knows, the replacement might have even weirder issues.
If you spend $500 plus on an item, you the buyer, have every right on this planet to be as picky as you like.
Nobody has to settle for anything less than perfection.
So no, you don't have to accept a defective camera, or flap or indeed a previously returned phone.
As I mentioned before but was lambasted in another thread, Sony may be using premium materials, but they are certainly not using premium construction. Not when some people have to go through six boxes in store to find a unit without light bleed and gaps.
I myself had two exchanges within the first two weeks. My first unit was simply not waterproof and had a leaky flap and my second one didn't charge on the magnetic dock and now I have light bleed but no energy to fight it anymore.
It's almost as bad as an iPhone. All my iPhone friends have had multiple exchanges... Some as many as 5 in a year.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app
More recent feedbacks to prove my point.
stop accepting being called a picky buyer.... ur paying top dollar for the phone, that said u should receive a product good for the purpose, if the camera doesn't work its not good
if the phone isnt water proof it isnt good
if there is a dent in the design it should state it before being bought. so it's not the buyer nor seller (purposely) its a unlucky sale.
I purchased mine at t-mobile. I paid 100% upfront despite being with t-mobile and they unlock it on the spot. When I registered with Xperia Care (sonymobiles product registration) I entered my IMEI and it has till Oct 2016 on warranty.
However on the 2nd day of owning the device The bottom speaker stopped working and was making a static noise. I went to my t-mo store I purchased it and they swapped it out. I didn't even pay a restocking fee. The manager said as long as I get the same phone and since I bought it back so promptly that he would just swap a new one. This one has been perfect since. Sometimes the convenience of having a store near by is better than having to deal with shipping my phone back and forth!
Alot of people dont want the tmobile Bloatwear but like I said, 32 GB + Local customer support outweight > No bloatwear & 16 Gig with mail in issues. (since i have no sony store near by, id still have to mail in for repairs and exchanges)
Me too, I'm glad I bought it from TMO with an EIP, exchanged mine 3 times on my 4th now, no hassles or fees.
***Please post if you were also hit after buying an Incipio case***
Just received a form letter dated 2-23-16 from Incipio's CEO (which can be viewed online here) about a data breach potentially affecting online orders made through their website (not sure about Amazon orders) between 9-26-15 and 1-29-16. I ordered my Octane case on 9-27-15 and about two weeks ago there were several false charges made to the debit card I used, which is now cancelled, replaced, and all amounts credited back since I reported it immediately. I think most folks with MXPEs who got Incipio cases would likely fall within this time span, so please be aware if you did and didn't receive or read the letter, which came in an unmarked envelope not saying Incipio or giving any other indication on the outside that it was about this matter.
Because the letter states "...we are unaware of any instance of fraud or identity theft arising from this incident", I called Incipio to report that there does seem to be at least one possible instance, and asked to speak with someone in management to do so, but customer service would only refer me to the 3rd-party security monitoring firm mentioned in the letter who they've hired, but that isn't really one of their functions. I still left my contact info and a firm request to be called back, though something tells me I won't be, but if I do I'll post the response.
This breach went undetected for THREE MONTHS [!!!] and from the letter it sounds like it was only discovered accidentally, and though it's fixed now I'd be very hesitant to do more business with them directly after that poor a level of self-monitoring.
What kind of random charges were made to your account?
I purchased one around that time frame, would like to look for certain charges on my account.

Just stuff I knew I didn't put on the card -- one was from AT&T, another was 1-800-FLOWERS, like common names you would recognize, and most were over $100 so you likely wouldn't miss them. Are you sure you bought within that time frame, because you should get the letter, but like I said it could be easy to chuck out as spam mail. Mine came on Monday so it seems folks are just getting them around now.
I also think the breachers probably didn't use any data until after 2/2/16 when it was discovered, so they could keep exploiting it as long as possible. Once discovered and closed they know right away, then rush to use the stolen data before people can be notified to cancel their cards. That's the usual pattern and explains why it took so long to get hit after my purchase date (~4 months).

Just checked my bank statement and nothing suspicious on my account.
I bought my phone on Jan 1st, and got a case a week later. So around 01/07/16, i guess not everyone was compromised.

They probably got your data since yours falls within the exposed time frame, even if they didn't use it yet. You didn't get the letter yet, I take it? If not, you should soon. I suggest at least calling your bank and tell them about this to see if they recommend replacing your card. And keep checking your account in the meantime because you need to report fraudulent charges right away or may not get reimbursed.

Nope no email yet, i checked spam folder and nothing is there.
I'll just leave it as is and live life on the edge
I'll just monitor my bank activity.
the fraudulent charges on your account, were they local charges? Diff state? or just online purchases?

It was a snail-mail letter, not an email, I guess sent out to the affected customers' billing addresses, so that's what to check for. The link in the first post is a copy of what I received, apparently filed with (and made public by) the CA State Attorney General's office, which I just happened to find while searching for more info about the breach. The charges were all out-of-state but I don't know how they were made.
I'm sure Incipio sold scads more cases during that period than the relative few for our phones, and likely the majority were for iPhones, so I'd expect posts like this may be showing up on other forums here and in the Apple world.
