Question One UI 5.0 vs Pixel version of android - Google Pixel 7 Pro

I currently have a z fold 3 and am considering a switch to the Pixel 7 pro. I know that there are a lot more built in features in the one ui software but I'm wondering if maybe there is a custom rom or something that is comparable? I feel like pixel tries to stay more minimalist in its approach (which isn't a bad thing) but I would like to know if there is a way for me to add some more customization (theming, additional software features, etc.) to the pixel if I decide to switch? I used to root my phones all the time and then sometime around the galaxy 9 I switched to samsung because I didn't have to root any longer since I could theme and have a bunch of other features right out of the box. I'm not opposed to rooting the pixel if I don't lose out on other features by doing so (i.e. google pay, oem updates, battery life etc)

You have Renovate Ice magisk rom that add a good pack of customization to the stock rom

you will always lose OTA when rooted, but there is easy way to update every month with full factory image almost like over the air

If you're rooted, oem updates will likely fail (although some have had success using the "Install to Inactive Slot" method). You'll have to unroot, then update and re-root or update another way if you want to do it while rooted and keep root (e.g. Pixel Flasher).
For Google Pay you'll likely have to install one of the USNF mods to pass Play Integrity.
Root itself has no effect on battery life.

Stock Android on Pixel is great.
I think it boils down to what features on OneUI5 that you use now. What type of customization do you do? Do you use the extra features like edge panels and so on? Do you use Bixby?
I have a Samsung Galaxy s22 plus and I really don't use any of the extra software. To me it is just a waste of resources.
The only thing I miss is the custom mpeg animation on my boot screen and ability to add a photo to the AOD. Those are fun things to add but it is not a big deal. In return I get way better stock wallpaper, better UI animations, a smoother overall experience, Pixel exclusive features. I hate having Facebook and Onedrive that I can't uninstall. I hate all of the extra Samsung apps that I can't uninstall or disable.
But there is a few things I do appreciate in OneUI5.
For me losing a few things to gain much more and a cheaper price was way worth it.
Rooting the phone can offer tons of customization but personally I think it is a pain to maintain and not worth it. YMMV.

I understood the one for Pixel 6 is also working on P7P
Personally the only thing I would miss from OneUI is the screen lock, if Renovate Ice can give extra shortcuts in the lock screen then it's perfect

Understood how? No where in that thread does anyone mention it works on the Pixel 7 Pro.

no custom oreo rom

Coming from the Nexus 5x and there are many Oreo roms..so i was wondering why there ist noch Oreo Rom for the Pixel..? And dont get me wrong..i have no problem with that..Just wonderering
With Kind regards
Ah..OK..after some reading..the first step is not really good finished yet..custom Recovery and root.
Wow..never was thinking that root and other stuff will be so complicated as on an iPhone to get it Jailbreaked
Are we in the point that google want that we just use our phones..?
Then we dont need sources and others...
..sorry..but i must write it down here..and hope to get some answers..
.. because the way to get all things done..from the HTC desire (bravo with Android 1-2) till the Nexus 5x and Samsung s6 was always the same..and now this..
I have for sure some Experience to look behind some curtain..but atm i am a bit frustrated
Root is no problem, fastboot boot to TWRP and install it.
This phone is much more challenging than other handsets due to the fact Google has implemented dual booting partitions. It also seems they aren't as interested in the developer community now that they are making their own phones and not just putting out an OS for Android. So, this handset isn't as friendly for devs, except for those who are really into masochistic behavior (self punishment). If you're looking for a really robust developer community you probably should stick to Samsung or a few other manufacturers and avoid Google for the foreseeable future.
Just my thoughts.
Really unbelievable that there are no ROMs due to those issues.
Will sell my Pixel and keep my Nexus 6P
I'm thinking of selling my pixel and getting a oneplus 5, or waiting to see how the modding scene evolves for the razor phone.
Truly disappointed the pixel line didn't follow on from nexus devices.
I will do so.
Got my pixel used and defective, Google will replace it for free so I will be able to sell it as new.
Would it be possible to install substratum and xposed framework?
Thought of getting nexus 6p,but bought the pixel thinking that it would get more development..
now I'm regretting that decision..?
I would of thought there would be possibly some way of reformatting the partition size or even changing partitions completely

for that ..S-off is needed..but a great idea through
Really funny how things have changed. It wasn't that long ago that if you wanted a phone that was easy to root, and had tons of developers, with tons of ROM options, you got a Nexus. Now that the Pixels are here, it's just the opposite.
The only saving grace is Google will continue supporting the pixel until October 2019 so I'm not going to be stranded with a phone I can't update.
Got the XL as a warranty replacement for my almost 2 year old 6P that had battery dying issues.
I do like the XL, have it rooted with Magisk, just waiting for Pure Nexus. If revo gets Xposed working Oreo, may not go custom rom at all.
Not many things the phone can't do that requires custom
bootloader unlock and custom kernel if required for some tweaks, however
pure android is actually freaking lovely
is any other device on oreo? let alone 8.1 (if you have beta)

Quite a few devices are getting both official and unofficial 8.0 updates. As far as 8.1 I'm pretty sure it's still in beta so it's only available for the Google family of devices as there is no way to look into the source of the beta and try to compile it for other phones.
There are more issues than the A/B partition scheme that these phones have:
1) They are extremely expensive so there were not too many people who bought them in the first place
2) There are a lot of people and devs who have sold their Pixels for Pixel 2's
3) Project Treble which sounded like a good idea has actually caused more problems for this phone for custom development, which did not affect any Nexus models. All the kinks related to this need to be worked out too as it is a new issue as of Oreo
You will see some rom action in the foreseeable future though

How would you rate the Pixel against the Nexus 6P?
Is it worth the upgrade?
I got a broken 6P for 80€ and a broken Pixel for 180€
Both were replaced (Nexus against Nexus, cause it was bought from 3rd party and not Google).
Nexus would sell for 250€, Pixel for 400€

I miss my 6P, thought it was an awesome phone but the battery issue SOT of 2 hours after 2 years was killing me. Got the XL as a warranty replacement for virtually nothing, so it was a win-win.
Once the custom roms roll out, it will rival or exceed the 6P, I have no doubt.

Best buy phone, can the bootloader be unlocked?

My 6p just died and I'm looking for a replacement. The sooner the better. If I buy a pixel 2 xl at Best Buy, will it be unlocked, or will it be a verizon bootloader can't be unlocked phone?

It will be a Verizon model but honestly I have a Pixel 2 from Google with the bootloader unlocked with no desire to root. As long as you can get a good XL2 screen then go for it.
So on the unrooted phone, is there an option to decide how many icons wide by how many icons down the screen holds? Can you resize a widget to take up space you want it to? Can you install a different launcher? (I prefer my apps to be listed as text instead of a bunch of icons)
I think those are the big 3 for me in terms of custom rom or not. I'm not sure if you can do that with Oreo as I haven't been not rooted for a while.
Currently rocking my old Note 3 with Jasmine rom running android 5 while I figure this all out. At least I have a phone.

You can install a launcher to do all those things.
Here is Nova launcher with Pixel 2 layout.
And Lawn chair Launcher for OG pixel layout.
And Another Widget to get the new weather and date layout from Pixel 2 with custom icons bring used on both. How that helps
Here is the Widget i referred too from the Pixel 2 set up.

Is Losing Security Updates Concerning?

I'm on a GS8+ and while I'd rather be on a Pixel or iPhone I honestly have no real complaints about the phone now with One UI (which is fantastic BTW) The only reason I'm anxious to upgrade is bc I'm not sure with my US unlocked model I'll continue to get any security updates past my April patch. I'd love some expert opinions on the real danger if I don't upgrade any time soon. The phone is great, I'd say fully optimized, and 2 years later may actually be better than it was new. I just don't like running hardware that doesn't continue to have security support. With the way Play runs now with added security layers and continued app and components being updated through the Play Store, do I have anything to really be concerned about????

Yeah, it's by far the best version I've ever seen that's not pure Android, in some ways I like it more bc of the focus on one handed usage especially on large screens it doesn't force you to stretch across the entire display. I also like the gestures way better than the current Pixel version, and based on what I've heard about Qs current beta I don't know if that's going to change.

One UI on OnePlus 7 pro ?

Hi,
My previously smartphone is a galaxy note 8 and I liked one UI interface , status bar, and nav bar, application drawer.
And I would like to know if it is possible to integrate one UI in my OnePlus 7 pro ?
Thank you in advance
Cordially,
I highly doubt it BUT you could probably theme it with substratum if you wanted
No. And prob wont happen, OneUI is a lagfest and wont be a thing developers Will even think about.
Tbh id you liked OneUi u shouldve picked a Samsung for your new device. Oneplus is all about speed, stable + features that doesnt make your phone lag.

Exactly! Sammy's UI is the absolute worst UI of all Androids.

It's possible.
You just have to make it.
OneUI has made a LOT of improvements over its previous TouchWiz versions, but OOS is pretty awesome as-is. If you want a OneUI devide, get a Galaxy S10
I've had both, but prefer OnePlus device with OOS ecosystem!
I absolutely agree, I had an S9+ before and after switching to 7 Pro, I couldn't be any happier.
The development support on Galaxies just sucks, manufacturers have made it in a way that people can't but run only stock rom to their satisfaction.
And once you've tripped Knox, that's it, can never use SPay, Health, etc. ever. At least there should be an option to lock bootloader back again. Samsungs just suck big time.

Nothing is impossible, it can happen just like the op6
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/rom-samsung-oneui-t3898627/page14
I had an s9+ for 3 weeks I really tried to like it, gave up and got the 6t then when the S10+ came out I bought it really tried to like it kept it for 2 months got really tied of the fingerprint frustrations and gave it up and got three 7 pro. I liked the S10+ but always missed the 6T. Battery and snappyness. Came to 7 pro and I was like f**k Samsung.
They use older processors, they give you crappy interface. Well I do miss 1 hand operations+. Root sucks on Sammy. Op all the way.
Guys please, he's not asking for a rant about OneUI, hes just asking if a port is possible.
To answer the question, yes it is most likely possible to port OneUI for our phone just like it was done with the MIUI, but it will be the full Samsung System then and no more OxygenOS. Apart from that I doubt that anyone is willing to take the enormous effort that is needed to take such a project
You can install GSI, but I doubt fingerprint, front camera, quick charge,... would work
I am a fan of OneUI but since using Oneplus 7 pro everything has changed .... I vote for Oneplus UI.
do not need One UI ROM, I have ordered the note 10+

I bought all the oneplus devices and will buy in future for sure without any doubt. Community is great for oneplus.

Yea, sammy phones are bloated, but actually some features are really nice. If anyone would be able to port the weather widget, or the game launcher, that would be nice.

possible to run stock Android?

Find looking to getting this phone, I have always had pixel phones and just running stock Android.
From what I can tell, it is very easy to read this phone, really all I am looking to do is run stock w magisk ( Just need Wi-Fi tether and add blocking and viper for Android really!)
I know it's ridiculous question, but I just wanted to confirm that it would be possible to run stock Android and do all the things I'm used to doing on my pixel s
What do you mean by "stock" Android? Do you you mean literally a Pixel ROM?
The device as it comes from OnePlus has what they call Oxygen OS. It is very close to the pure Google experience (like Pixel device) with just a couple OnePlus apps, and some OP wallpapers, and not much else. I believe it is as close to a Pixel experience as you will get, without actually buying a Pixel.
Otherwise, there may be custom ROMs that get you closer to a Pixel experience.
I think the Pixel Experience ROM is exactly what you are looking for!
Just FYI, pixel's don't run stock Android either.
The closest thing you can get to "stock" android is LineageOS, as it's directly based off of AOSP and only has several added features.
Pixel phones don't run "stock" android, they run a proprietary OS Google ships their phones with that looks very close to stock android, but if that's what you're looking for, then Pixel Experience rom is probably for you.
Otherwise on OxygenOS, you can get a near pixel/stock experience using Lawnchair/Pixellauncher + Quickstep magisk module to replace OOS launcher and recents since you were planning on using magisk anyways.
Have you thought of installing the Pixel Launcher? It will give you the stock Pixel feel?
