possible to run stock Android? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Find looking to getting this phone, I have always had pixel phones and just running stock Android.
From what I can tell, it is very easy to read this phone, really all I am looking to do is run stock w magisk ( Just need Wi-Fi tether and add blocking and viper for Android really!)
I know it's ridiculous question, but I just wanted to confirm that it would be possible to run stock Android and do all the things I'm used to doing on my pixel s

What do you mean by "stock" Android? Do you you mean literally a Pixel ROM?
The device as it comes from OnePlus has what they call Oxygen OS. It is very close to the pure Google experience (like Pixel device) with just a couple OnePlus apps, and some OP wallpapers, and not much else. I believe it is as close to a Pixel experience as you will get, without actually buying a Pixel.
Otherwise, there may be custom ROMs that get you closer to a Pixel experience.

I think the Pixel Experience ROM is exactly what you are looking for!

Just FYI, pixel's don't run stock Android either.

The closest thing you can get to "stock" android is LineageOS, as it's directly based off of AOSP and only has several added features.
Pixel phones don't run "stock" android, they run a proprietary OS Google ships their phones with that looks very close to stock android, but if that's what you're looking for, then Pixel Experience rom is probably for you.
Otherwise on OxygenOS, you can get a near pixel/stock experience using Lawnchair/Pixellauncher + Quickstep magisk module to replace OOS launcher and recents since you were planning on using magisk anyways.

Have you thought of installing the Pixel Launcher? It will give you the stock Pixel feel?

OxygenOS vs Android One

hello, guys.
I don't have an opportunity to buy a Pixel, since it's really costly in my country, but i do like features they offering like call screen or they showed new assistant on recent I/O.
So right now i can afford either an android one phone(like Nokia 8.1 or wait for Xiaomi mi a3 release) or a OnePlus 6. So my questions are:
0) For Pixel owners: Are those features are worth it at all? Is there such thing called "pixel magic"? Like Pixels working better, no matter the hardware(i never heard about it from US reviewers, only from locals, so i suspect it might be just them feeling so special having a rare Pixel in our parts)
1) In your opinion, would those (as for now) pixel only features will come on other android devices and if so, which of the above would get them first?
2) You opinions on compering Android one and oxygen OS? Which one is better?
Thanks

"Better" is a relative term. The real answer is neither are better. One may be better for certain things than the other.
It is more of a matter of which one is better for YOUR purposes and usage.

Custom ROM support

I'm interested in this phone and wondering what custom ROM support may be like for the device? I had a quick look at the pixel 4 and it's not massively supported but I don't really know how recent or popular it is?
I'm currently using a Xiaomi mi9t with pixel experience+. I know the p4a will be similar if not the same minus the additional features added in the pe+ version, which I quite like tbh.
I know it's early days and probably most can't even get their hands on the phone yet but curious what you might expect based on previous pixel devices?
I would also be interested in this. The 4a's "stock" Android is fine, but there are very few customization options. For example, the setting to hide specific Satus Bar icons is available in Settings but greyed out and inaccessible. I would really love to install LineageOS on this device.
As for popularity, the Pixel 4 was expensive and had poor battery life, so I don't think it had many adopters. The 4a on the otherhand is a steal at $350 and in a post-COVID world, I can see many people who need a new device going for the budget option. I really hope this helps us build a large development community
I plan on staying stock for a few weeks, but rooting and flashing roms is a weekly thing for me. I'm sure there will be plenty fairly quickly. Our codename is "sunfish", right? Much better than my current dumpling.

One of the main developers at DU got one, it's a safe bet ROMs will be available
I would be super shocked if this device does not get any rom support as popular as it is. I believe a couple of devs have said they will start developing roms.

Pixel UI vs Lineage (Android 10)

Small question, but I suspect that it is going to need a big answer.
First of all, I would be happy if there is a site or post that already did the comparison, and I would be quite happy if someone would link the site or post as my Google-fu might have been inadequate.
I also realise that I am comparing a stock ROM and custom ROM. I custom ROM sometime has the advantage of getting support by community developers for longer.
But keeping in mind that I do use various Google Apps (and would therefore install some form of GAapps with Lineage), I was wondering if there are certain features in Lineage I might miss in the Pixel UI, or vice-versa (for instance, if I was to install GCam on Lineage and use it on a Pixel phone, would I get the same thing as I would with Pixel UI?).
And while I am at it.. is the Pixel Experience to the Pixel UI the same thing as say, stock MIUI ROM and xiaomi.eu, or is something very different under the hood?
Thanks.

Question Why are there no OOS custom ROMs?

This is my first OnePlus device so excuse my ignorance. Looking at all the posted ROMs they all seem to be AOSP or Lineage-based. I was curious why none of them are OOS-based. I actually like a lot of the features of OOS, both Android 11 and 12 flavors, I was just hoping there might be a ROM that addresses some of the bugs or that adds refinement (because let's face it, OOS 12 is seriously half-baked). I have always had HTC or Samsung devices so I'm used to seeing most major ROMs actually based around the stock skin.
IMO one reason is that we don't have enough sources for OOS12, and building custom OOS 11 ROMs doesn't make any sense now as Android 12 is out. I'm not a dev so maybe it isn't true but i think it would be more complicated to install or build etc. these OOS based ROMs, with the recent changes to Android it's already pain to install AOSP based ROMs.
If you ask me it would be better to have a CAF based ROM instead, as they are optimized as OOS 11 was, but has the latest patches and stuff, also we should have sources for that... But i guess it's still easier to build from AOSP base so it is what it is
Yeah that makes sense. I guess I'll just stick with OOS 12 then. If I wanted a Pixel I would have gotten one and in fact I was between Pixel 6, S21 FE, and OnePlus 9 when I saw that all three were $599 on Amazon. Got the 9 because I wanted to try something new (and I didn't trust the Exynos modem in the Pixel 6). OOS isn't perfect but I like it more than AOSP and especially Pixel's Android 12 implementation.
Same question is mine why not os12 custom rom available? But not pixel etc
In stock based
Does OOS12 still have that brown tinge in the GApps? It drove me nuts.

That's set by your wallpaper. Either change the wallpaper or use LWP+ or Repainter to change the colors. It's an Android 12 feature called Material You.

Question One UI 5.0 vs Pixel version of android

I currently have a z fold 3 and am considering a switch to the Pixel 7 pro. I know that there are a lot more built in features in the one ui software but I'm wondering if maybe there is a custom rom or something that is comparable? I feel like pixel tries to stay more minimalist in its approach (which isn't a bad thing) but I would like to know if there is a way for me to add some more customization (theming, additional software features, etc.) to the pixel if I decide to switch? I used to root my phones all the time and then sometime around the galaxy 9 I switched to samsung because I didn't have to root any longer since I could theme and have a bunch of other features right out of the box. I'm not opposed to rooting the pixel if I don't lose out on other features by doing so (i.e. google pay, oem updates, battery life etc)
You have Renovate Ice magisk rom that add a good pack of customization to the stock rom

you will always lose OTA when rooted, but there is easy way to update every month with full factory image almost like over the air

If you're rooted, oem updates will likely fail (although some have had success using the "Install to Inactive Slot" method). You'll have to unroot, then update and re-root or update another way if you want to do it while rooted and keep root (e.g. Pixel Flasher).
For Google Pay you'll likely have to install one of the USNF mods to pass Play Integrity.
Root itself has no effect on battery life.
Stock Android on Pixel is great.
I think it boils down to what features on OneUI5 that you use now. What type of customization do you do? Do you use the extra features like edge panels and so on? Do you use Bixby?
I have a Samsung Galaxy s22 plus and I really don't use any of the extra software. To me it is just a waste of resources.
The only thing I miss is the custom mpeg animation on my boot screen and ability to add a photo to the AOD. Those are fun things to add but it is not a big deal. In return I get way better stock wallpaper, better UI animations, a smoother overall experience, Pixel exclusive features. I hate having Facebook and Onedrive that I can't uninstall. I hate all of the extra Samsung apps that I can't uninstall or disable.
But there is a few things I do appreciate in OneUI5.
For me losing a few things to gain much more and a cheaper price was way worth it.
Rooting the phone can offer tons of customization but personally I think it is a pain to maintain and not worth it. YMMV.

I understood the one for Pixel 6 is also working on P7P
Personally the only thing I would miss from OneUI is the screen lock, if Renovate Ice can give extra shortcuts in the lock screen then it's perfect

Understood how? No where in that thread does anyone mention it works on the Pixel 7 Pro.
