Question Pixel 7 pro - Exclamation mark - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Hello Everyone,
i have recently bought the pixel 7 pro and i found out something really annoying as hell. Next to the mobile signal if i don't set "on" the mobile data, there is a costant exclamation mark. The only way i found to solve this is to keep costantly on the mobile data (increasing the battery consumption). I also tried to reset the connection.

Also, always about the connectivity, the device doesn't show the difference between 4G and 4G+. It only gives me back an LTE generic, even if i am aggregating 2 bands.
I spoke about these two issues with google support and i have obtained a silly answer:" The phone is ok, just talk with your provider". Some suggestion?

Same for me in 6 Pro, I assume just to indicate that mobile data is off.

Thank you for the answer! I personally think this is so silly from google. Why do you have to put an exclamation mark? Like it was enough to show the simbol of 4G or 5G when you are using the connection. The exclamation mark covers the last part of the signal and also makes you believe you don't have signal to even call.

Agreed. It was not there earlier, seems it started with once of the recent A13 updates.

You can (rooting may be required, not sure) but you could look into changing the statusbar indicator icons and look for one that suits you more/less annoying.

My P6P did it from day one and of course my P7P does it, it seems to be when there is a DNS problem.

My data is always turned off. This has been a thing since at least Android 11. Like someone else said, you can use modded status bar icons

I believe this is a thing should be reported to google even this is just a minor issue I understand you can use mods on your phone but it's such a shame that you have to root your phone that has neither few months of life.
I didn't understand though, your data are always off and do you still get the exclamation mark?

I guess I'm confused. The Exclamation mark has always been a symbol of a lack of connectivity. If your WiFi or Data is not connected, there has always been the Exclamation Mark. So what am I not understanding here?

The issue here is: Your mobile data (internet) is not connected, but your mobile signal to make calls is connected, and you still get the exclamation mark as if there is no signal. This is confusing because the exclamation mark in my past phones was a thing related to not having signal and not being able to make calls.

The exclamation mark has always been meant to show when data isn't working. It was the X that was meant to signify no connection to the network. Seeing how the ! only cuts off the last fifth or so of the signal bar, this should be obvious.

Connected, no internet WiFi problem after Nougat update - BTU

Hello guys!
After Nougat update, the WiFi connection stops from time to time. A exclamation mark appears on WiFi sign and internet is not working. If i reconnect everything is ok a while. I wiped, but i still have this problem. I tested on 2 different routers.
Anyone else with this? Solutions?

Have you tried assigning the phone a static IP?
See if it still drops, if not it could be having a problem with DHCP

Settings > Connections > WiFi > Long press on your wireless connection > Manage network settings > Show advanced options > Change DHCP to Static
Make sure correct IP, Gateway, DNS etc is filled in and hit save
Mine auto filled it from the previous DHCP info it already had so just have to hit save
This was a useless recommendation. There're too many people with an issue and this shouldn't be a problem. Especially when the same device and routers has no problem befor nougat and then continuous problems after update.

More like off shore tech support. At least you didn't recommend factory reset of the guys phone.
But seriously? Troubleshooting? It seems you know the meaning, but not the steps. If you build some before, after, and comparitive context to the users situation, you may have come to a different conclusion.
To the poor soul that gets here with a question burning in everyone's mind, "why me?" Go to Samsung and complain, get a new phone and viola, problem passed on. Especially if you just got it. There are a bunch of issues that you may also be unlucky to have in addition to the WiFi struggling to accept what it thinks as a weak internet connection.
Context:
I did not have any of these issues pre-Nougat;
Nothing change at home, work, and I assume the other locations either;
After the update I factory reset hoping for resolution;
Nope. Purely ignored defect from Samsung...
In addition I suffer from loudspeaker audio cutting out on YouTube videos, which is resovled if you go to a music player and play a few seconds of a song and then go back to the video. Must be the static IP need... Which even if it resolved the issue is still not a resolution! Are you going to assign static IPs everywhere you go? Common dude.

I had this problem in the past.
What I did was look up the APN settings for my phone with a specific carrier.
Then I went into settings and created a NEW APN with those exact settings.
You then have to save it, select it, and reboot your phone.
It solved my problem, which was an APN that had gotten corrupted.

Yea the BT thing sounds plausible, guess it would think it was on loud speaker if connected to a car BT sound system
There's a few different unknown icons appear here on XDA, not sure where the box my S7 came in but possible there is a booklet similar to your first link showing what they mean

Not with mine , no booklet at all , if you search S7 status bar icons , there are several variants ( shapes, colors) for the same function , I guess each country /carrier adds their touch....that is not bad but for sure sometime confusing

Actually, it's the 4G call icon. You shoul disable it, if you want to be albe to make proper calls.

It's your Wi-Fi calling icon. Just pull the top bar down and turn off Wi-Fi calling! I only found out by accident as it was driving me nuts!

Network Connection Failed Error - Note 8

Hey everyone, i have been having this annoying error/pop-up/notification that has been bothering me since i got the Note 8. Everytime i turn on the screen to unlock it, i get the "Network connection failed" message.
Now, this happens, when i have cell signal at full bars, LTE or Wi-Fi and at all different locations. I tried resetting the phone, adding the apps without any sort of backup, deleting apps, switching my carriers APN, I tried replacing the phone but it always comes back.
I tried contacting Samsung but they are clueless as to what i am taking about.
Does anyone have any suggestions into how i could proceed to fix this, or is anyone aware of what the problem is?
Who is your carrier?

Same issue
I have this same issue - annoying but no negative affects...
Verizon is my carrier - I am not so sure this is a carrier issue. In fact, not sure how someone with so little information can definitively say it is a carrier issue...More will report this issue too!
I have the same issue. Verizon
I believe this has something to do with the aggressiveness of power management sleeping apps...see if you still get the error after switching mobile data always on in developers options...I had to switch some of apps off in power saving mode as well because of the aggressiveness...it could be something else though...just an idea
Same problem here I have a Qualcomm carrier free note 8 using it on T-Mobile. It's driving me crazy
Note 8 - T-Mobile
I have just recently encountered this error.
Drives me crazy as well.
This feels like an application issue. I am obviously not certain. Going to do some digging.
If I find a solution, I will report it here.
I think it has to do with download booster.
Same Issue 11-9-17
Has anyone found a solution for this? I'm also having this issue as of 11-9-17. Have tried enabling/disabling download booster, enabling/disabling mobile data always on and have tried a few network resets with Verizon Tech Coach.
I got all the way up to Tier 2 and every person I spoke to agrees this is a weird issue they haven't seen before. Mine seems to come and go. Sometimes I can get hit with the pop-up every time I unlock, other times it'll behave fine for hours then start up again for a little bit then stop. Thankfully there is no impact to operation, but still annoying.
Anyone figure this out...it is driving me crazy.
this is a combination of power saving and the "show nearby locations" in the phone app being active.
can turn off either and issue should disappear.
I have this happening on my s8. Haven't figured out which app/service is causing it but I killed a bunch and the error went away. It's likely one of the hundred background Samsung services. I'll try to narrow it down.
same for me

I also have Verizon. It used to happen on my Nexus 6P and now Pixel 2. If I ever figure out which app, I'll let you know.
Mine randomly stopped about 2 weeks ago. I know there have been a couple updates since my post so I'm not 100% sure if those fixed or if it was something else. Still a mystery as far as I'm concerned.

This seemed to work but just now saw the error again when I unlocked my phone. I turned "show nearby locations" in the phone app back on, will look into power save options next.
I've had this problem for probably close to a year and I'm really getting tired of it, even though it's just a nuisance.
I went into settings<connections<more connection settings<turned off nearby device scanning and then reset network connections which got rid of the notification on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure it'll keep popping up but for now that's what worked for me
Is there a solution for this yet? Is there any way to disable the message? Every time I change from WiFi to Mobile or vice-versa, I have to deal with this for the next 10 min or so. I have tried all the fixes mentioned here.
Solution
Install the app Toast Service from the Playstore. This will run in the background and show you which app is causing the problem. Mine was Hikvision. As soon as the error arrives you will see under notifications when you pull down from the top which app is causing the message. Hope this helps all.

Question Where are the battery troubles in the LTE models coming from

There seems to be some sort of consensus that the LTE versions of the watch have more battery trouble
Has anyone actually given it some thought as to why?
When LTE is off it should not make a difference, but it does seem to exist.
Is the emergency service always connected, is there a bug where the modem drains power even when it should be off?
Curious to hear what you think

I have discovered my mistake was thinking that I needed to have the LTE button in the quick menu lit up blue to work away from the watch, my battery life has improved since I discovered it doesn't need to be lit up blue as that is permanently "on", by having the button grey it's on "auto"

I think that's the same button I called LTE/mobile network, it's the up/down arrows design button, sorry for the wrong description!
I got mine the other day replacing my 1st gen galaxy watch. I set it up in the same way as my old watch and was amazed to see the battery drop 10% in one hour, since then I have made one change... I disabled the option for the screen to come on via gesture, settling for a tap if the screen... I took it off charge this morning at 5:30am and it is now 21:21BST... It has 58% remaining... a significant improvement over day 1
I have the same problem with LTE. Whenever I use "auto" for LTE settings, the watch would keep trying to find signal and that would drain the battery. Which is insane, especially because: 1) the phone is always nearby, bluetooth connected 2) i haven't set up any carrier yet!
I have the network connection on. For me, i have a good 2 days of battery life. Compared to my previous WearOS watches, it's excellent...

Did some testing and disabled everything (HR, Stress, Exercise detection, notifications, LTE/Mobile data, Wifi, NFC) all that was left on was the BT connection and I was still getting about 8% per Hour drain (12 hr 30 min life). Disabled BT and enabled Wifi for connection and drain now at 3.6% /H. (Stats as per Battery and Charge Monitor for Wear OS). So it doesnt appear to be a drain from any of the health monitoring or notifications etc, but possibly from the OS, which hopefully Google/Samsung will resolve/improve with updates.

Question Dev Option "Mobile Data Always Active" No Longer Functional

I have an ATT branded S21+ and have an issue I am trying to solve around always keeping my mobile data on. I connect to a couple of devices around the house, in the truck, and on the boat that are "wifi" devices. (For instance, on my boat, I have a WIFI transducer that sends sonar data to my phone for depth and temperature) Problem I am having is while I am connected to these sources, which do not have internet service, my phone refuses to use mobile data. I used to be able to toggle the "mobile data always active" function in dev options to correct, but it no longer seems to function. Anyone have a workaround?
S21+, A12, One 4.1, and just to see if it would correct the problem, I recently moved over to the U1 firmware. The problem still exists, but at least I don't have the ATT bloatware anymore.
go to settings > software information > tap Build number 7x or 10x idk...
Go back to Settings > scroll down and find Developer Options > search Mobile Data Always Active
That's what I was saying in the title of the post. The Dev Option is checked on, but it does not do anything and mobile data is not connected simultaneously. In past firmware (pre A12), when you toggle that on, the "5G" symbol shows up in between the Wifi and Signal Strength meter.
Nobody has run into this?
I have the same problem. Found settings under connections, mobile only apps, but it seems to do nothing.
There has to be a developer who can fix this. Willing to donate if so!

The weird thing is, I used that option to test this as well, and with the dev toggle mobile data always active OFF it does work for some reason....
My Chrome using whatismyip shows a Vodafone IP correctly..
I don't even have a "Mobile Data Only Apps" option to select. I know where it's supposed to be, it's just not there. On Samsung A12 U1 firmware.

Same issue here on my Note20 Ultra.
Did you find any workaround to have both connections active in the status bar?
Hi, I have the same issue with my Redmi Note 9 Pro with MIUI 12.5.7.
I have the "Mobile Data Always Active" option activated and it isn't working, when connected to Wifi the mobile data isn't connected...
Anyone knows a fix for this?
Or there is any app that can be a workaround?
Same here with s21 plus on Verizon, I used to have both 5G and wifi on, after the last update the 5g icon disappeared while im on wifi. The problem is everytime I leave a wifi area the phone takes forever to switch back to mobile network and I have to restart the phone.

Same here, I used to use this a lot using my phone with a wifi obd scanner, the scanner obviously doesn't connect to internet so having cell data with the wifi connection was great to be able to read codes for vehicles, it's been about a year or 2 since it quit working for me on anything android 11 and up
Same issue here on my Galaxy Tab A7. The intelligent Wi-Fi doesn’t even work. There is this app Speedify that works for free up to 2gb. It does channel bonding via a VPN but I would like for the basic features built into my OS to work also
