Question Dev Option "Mobile Data Always Active" No Longer Functional - Samsung Galaxy S21+

I have an ATT branded S21+ and have an issue I am trying to solve around always keeping my mobile data on. I connect to a couple of devices around the house, in the truck, and on the boat that are "wifi" devices. (For instance, on my boat, I have a WIFI transducer that sends sonar data to my phone for depth and temperature) Problem I am having is while I am connected to these sources, which do not have internet service, my phone refuses to use mobile data. I used to be able to toggle the "mobile data always active" function in dev options to correct, but it no longer seems to function. Anyone have a workaround?
S21+, A12, One 4.1, and just to see if it would correct the problem, I recently moved over to the U1 firmware. The problem still exists, but at least I don't have the ATT bloatware anymore.

go to settings > software information > tap Build number 7x or 10x idk...
Go back to Settings > scroll down and find Developer Options > search Mobile Data Always Active

That's what I was saying in the title of the post. The Dev Option is checked on, but it does not do anything and mobile data is not connected simultaneously. In past firmware (pre A12), when you toggle that on, the "5G" symbol shows up in between the Wifi and Signal Strength meter.

Nobody has run into this?

I have the same problem. Found settings under connections, mobile only apps, but it seems to do nothing.

There has to be a developer who can fix this. Willing to donate if so!

The weird thing is, I used that option to test this as well, and with the dev toggle mobile data always active OFF it does work for some reason....
My Chrome using whatismyip shows a Vodafone IP correctly..

I don't even have a "Mobile Data Only Apps" option to select. I know where it's supposed to be, it's just not there. On Samsung A12 U1 firmware.

I have my phone set in Dutch language but the general idea is the same. Here's my menu and software version. It's unrooted stock latest software with Knox intact but with Samkey edited CSC as this is/was a carrier locked phone which I changed to a different carrier CSC.

Same issue here on my Note20 Ultra.
Did you find any workaround to have both connections active in the status bar?

Hi, I have the same issue with my Redmi Note 9 Pro with MIUI 12.5.7.
I have the "Mobile Data Always Active" option activated and it isn't working, when connected to Wifi the mobile data isn't connected...
Anyone knows a fix for this?
Or there is any app that can be a workaround?

Same here with s21 plus on Verizon, I used to have both 5G and wifi on, after the last update the 5g icon disappeared while im on wifi. The problem is everytime I leave a wifi area the phone takes forever to switch back to mobile network and I have to restart the phone.

Same here, I used to use this a lot using my phone with a wifi obd scanner, the scanner obviously doesn't connect to internet so having cell data with the wifi connection was great to be able to read codes for vehicles, it's been about a year or 2 since it quit working for me on anything android 11 and up

Same issue here on my Galaxy Tab A7. The intelligent Wi-Fi doesn’t even work. There is this app Speedify that works for free up to 2gb. It does channel bonding via a VPN but I would like for the basic features built into my OS to work also

[Q] Maximum connection speed = 3G? Why?

Hello,
I've just followed the procedure explained in this thread LINK in order to enable the network sharing option on my Samsung Omnia 7, but now there's something a bit strange.
Also, I want to thank the author of that procedure (can't post in his thread because of the limitations of my new account).
If i tap the "Cellular network" tab in the phone settings now I see a new selection tab named "Maximum connection speed", wich I haven't got before doing the procedure:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(before the update I only had got - at this height of the tab - Roaming options and Network selection...no trace of that "Maximum connection speed")
If i tap the selection box i can choose from 2 options: E (edge) and 3G.
I don't see H (hsdpa) option and now 3G is the chosen option.
If i use my connection i see the 3G icon at the top of the screen become H, as always, but I'm confused and I don't know if the navigation speed is the same as before...
Is that normal? How can I test my speed?
By the way I made a backup, so I can restore my phone if it's needed!
3G is HSDPA (in some countries 3.5G/HSDPA+). 3G is only the network used for texting and video/calling, whereas mobile internet is connected through the form of HSDPA via 3G network. It's like 2G/EDGE and 4G/LTE.
I thought that selection would have affected the navigation speed, but not in this case.
Thank you!

Yes, it's a Samsung related thing.
They chose to use 3G+ instead of H to refer at HDSPA...meh.
By the way, using the "Advanced Configuration" homebrew I was able to change that weird icon from 3G+ to the classic H.
Ps. Magus, sei tu? XD
A few questions asked here:
Why did this option appear?
It's actually supposed to be there, but some OEMs or mobile operators hide it by default. Many homebrew tweaks un-hide it (it's just a single registry value).
What does it do?
It lets you force the phone to use 2G (including EDGE) instead of 3G (including HSPDA). There are two reasons you might do this: to save battery (3G is a battery hog, relatively speaking) or because you have a very marginal 3G signal but a strong 2G one and therefore actually get a better connection if you force the phone to use 2G.
How can I test my speed?
There are a number of ways. The marketplace has several apps for bandwidth testing (though some provide wildly inaccurate results). You can also tether your laptop to the phone (using either the USB cable and a small tweak, or using the built-in Internet Sharing feature over WiFi) and then use a standard bandwidth test site like http://speedtest.net (which uses Flash and is therefore not usable in the phone's browser).
Hope that helps!

Connected, no internet WiFi problem after Nougat update - BTU

Hello guys!
After Nougat update, the WiFi connection stops from time to time. A exclamation mark appears on WiFi sign and internet is not working. If i reconnect everything is ok a while. I wiped, but i still have this problem. I tested on 2 different routers.
Anyone else with this? Solutions?

Have you tried assigning the phone a static IP?

This was a useless recommendation. There're too many people with an issue and this shouldn't be a problem. Especially when the same device and routers has no problem befor nougat and then continuous problems after update.

More like off shore tech support. At least you didn't recommend factory reset of the guys phone.
But seriously? Troubleshooting? It seems you know the meaning, but not the steps. If you build some before, after, and comparitive context to the users situation, you may have come to a different conclusion.
To the poor soul that gets here with a question burning in everyone's mind, "why me?" Go to Samsung and complain, get a new phone and viola, problem passed on. Especially if you just got it. There are a bunch of issues that you may also be unlucky to have in addition to the WiFi struggling to accept what it thinks as a weak internet connection.
Context:
I did not have any of these issues pre-Nougat;
Nothing change at home, work, and I assume the other locations either;
After the update I factory reset hoping for resolution;
Nope. Purely ignored defect from Samsung...
In addition I suffer from loudspeaker audio cutting out on YouTube videos, which is resovled if you go to a music player and play a few seconds of a song and then go back to the video. Must be the static IP need... Which even if it resolved the issue is still not a resolution! Are you going to assign static IPs everywhere you go? Common dude.
I have the exact same wifi connected, but no internet problem on AT&T S7. It connects if i toggle wifi off and on, but this is annoying

I had this problem in the past.
What I did was look up the APN settings for my phone with a specific carrier.
Then I went into settings and created a NEW APN with those exact settings.
You then have to save it, select it, and reboot your phone.
It solved my problem, which was an APN that had gotten corrupted.

I did not see so much difference but it's a thing that you not use.....
what does it fix? which wifi problems?
Actually I do use Smart Network switch, I switches between LTE and Wi-Fi. I also keep LTE alive in the background for faster switching.
If that is turned OFF - I get periods of "no data" usually when I am trying to navigate and the device had locked on some "Xfinity wifi " as that is a very common open wifi.
I am and most of us are "not paying LTE so we don't use it" - This feature allows for better Network switch and less periods of No-Data, IMHO

My device is a non branded edge 7, which also uses both of them simultaneously - that's a thing of beauty

That must be a regional issue. My S7e never lost a wireless connection or had problems moving between cellular and Wi-Fi. Regardless, both the radio h/w and s/w are going to be new on the S8 so things that affected previous phones aren't likely to affect it. We'll probably getting a totally different set of new issues and quirks.

As in you're in the EU and I'm the U.S. and haven't experienced what you're reporting. I also don't remember seeing chronic worldwide wireless issues on the S7e forum. So it doesn't seem like whatever the problem you're referencing is affected all S7e owners equally. And it certainly won't affect S8 owners because the radio h/w and accompanying s/w is new.

Seems like no matter what I turn off, wifi still toggles automatically, I've wiped cache, booted into safe mode, factory reset, took away permissions to system settings.
Is there a way to trace what is commanding wifi to toggle?
Maybe if I can trace it and will be able to disable it
I see that no apps have requested this through the "wifi control history"
I knew I couldn't be the only one experiencing this, so I'm glad there is at least discussion about it.
I made a related thread in the Q&A this morning before I found this thread.
I'm on the T-Mobile S8, and I do connect to a 5Ghz band. Thankfully I don't use smart network switch nor do I want my device scanning for bluetooth when I have bluetooth disabled (they say it's for "location accuracy", but it's actually for ad services).
I only disabled bluetooth scanning when bluetooth is off a few minutes before finding this thread, so I'll report back if wifi continues to drop in the coming days.

Same for me. Did you install some software update?
Well I've been messing around with this issue for hours and hours. The only solution is to set my routers to 2.4ghz because 5ghz makes this phone go crazy.
Just my 5 cents -> do this or stop wasting time until either Sammy releases a fix (doubtful) or root + custom ROMs start appearing (more likely) so a specific Dev fixes the problem.
This much money and I haveto change MY other equip to have it working.
Bah!

For those of you that are losing Wi-Fi connection and reconnecting, go into your router configuration and change the channel until you find the channel that is most reliable in your area. That's usually the main cause most of the time for disconnect issues. Change your 5Ghz channel and you most likely will find one that works fine. If the router is in "auto channel select" mode, take it out of auto and set a channel manually until you find the channel that works for your area.

Network Connection Failed Error - Note 8

Hey everyone, i have been having this annoying error/pop-up/notification that has been bothering me since i got the Note 8. Everytime i turn on the screen to unlock it, i get the "Network connection failed" message.
Now, this happens, when i have cell signal at full bars, LTE or Wi-Fi and at all different locations. I tried resetting the phone, adding the apps without any sort of backup, deleting apps, switching my carriers APN, I tried replacing the phone but it always comes back.
I tried contacting Samsung but they are clueless as to what i am taking about.
Does anyone have any suggestions into how i could proceed to fix this, or is anyone aware of what the problem is?

Same issue
I have this same issue - annoying but no negative affects...
Verizon is my carrier - I am not so sure this is a carrier issue. In fact, not sure how someone with so little information can definitively say it is a carrier issue...More will report this issue too!
I have the same issue. Verizon
I believe this has something to do with the aggressiveness of power management sleeping apps...see if you still get the error after switching mobile data always on in developers options...I had to switch some of apps off in power saving mode as well because of the aggressiveness...it could be something else though...just an idea
Same problem here I have a Qualcomm carrier free note 8 using it on T-Mobile. It's driving me crazy
Note 8 - T-Mobile
I have just recently encountered this error.
Drives me crazy as well.
This feels like an application issue. I am obviously not certain. Going to do some digging.
If I find a solution, I will report it here.
I think it has to do with download booster.
Same Issue 11-9-17
Has anyone found a solution for this? I'm also having this issue as of 11-9-17. Have tried enabling/disabling download booster, enabling/disabling mobile data always on and have tried a few network resets with Verizon Tech Coach.
I got all the way up to Tier 2 and every person I spoke to agrees this is a weird issue they haven't seen before. Mine seems to come and go. Sometimes I can get hit with the pop-up every time I unlock, other times it'll behave fine for hours then start up again for a little bit then stop. Thankfully there is no impact to operation, but still annoying.
Anyone figure this out...it is driving me crazy.
this is a combination of power saving and the "show nearby locations" in the phone app being active.
can turn off either and issue should disappear.
I have this happening on my s8. Haven't figured out which app/service is causing it but I killed a bunch and the error went away. It's likely one of the hundred background Samsung services. I'll try to narrow it down.
same for me

This seemed to work but just now saw the error again when I unlocked my phone. I turned "show nearby locations" in the phone app back on, will look into power save options next.
I've had this problem for probably close to a year and I'm really getting tired of it, even though it's just a nuisance.
I went into settings<connections<more connection settings<turned off nearby device scanning and then reset network connections which got rid of the notification on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure it'll keep popping up but for now that's what worked for me
Is there a solution for this yet? Is there any way to disable the message? Every time I change from WiFi to Mobile or vice-versa, I have to deal with this for the next 10 min or so. I have tried all the fixes mentioned here.
Solution
Install the app Toast Service from the Playstore. This will run in the background and show you which app is causing the problem. Mine was Hikvision. As soon as the error arrives you will see under notifications when you pull down from the top which app is causing the message. Hope this helps all.

Of course yes, as I sad VoLTE and WiFi Calling options is just not appear in settings, I tried 3 different carriers in Poland (PLAY, ORANGE, T-Mobile).
I was under the impression you ROM version indicates to a your service provider of the features you can have enabled on that phone.
Eg Vodafone UK only has select number of phones on their website that they enabled for VoLTE or WiFi calling. But these version would only work with specific ROMs.
Hence why I was holding off just to make sure on android 11.
Thanks
Thanks for answer. I have heard about this before, but as i said in first post - on OnePlus 7 Pro I can force enable VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling - in default also that wasn't working. Carries in Poland adds supported phones very slowly, and mainly most popular phones. Neither OnePlus 7 Pro or Oppo Find X2 Pro aren't supported officially by three main carriers...
The VoLTE/VoWifi is really interesting. Here in the Netherlands both were activated and being used until I received the last software update (carrier: T-mobile) since the update both aren't available.
Customer services said the device added, so maybe the latest software has some issue with it. No sure

So after upgrading my carrier plan in germany from LTE to 5G, I am missing also missing Wifi Calling which worked before. I have both options but I cant change to call over Wlan. If I press the button Wlan-Anrufe (which should bring up the selection), nothing happens.
