Full white screen EDIT: boots into samsung logo then black screen. Recovery, download mode, and charging works - Samsung Galaxy A51 Questions & Answers

Hello all!
My mom owns this unit, and the screen is all white. Could this be a hardware problem or can it be fixed with a factory reset?
may be a stupid questions, but it's worth a shot to ask here.
thanks!
19.4.22 EDIT: got the unit, download mode works, recovery mode works, charging works, but when i try to boot it, it gets past through the samsung logo then black screen.

Wait for the battery to drain, then power it on again?
Try booting into download mode and reflashing stock, or doign a factory reset via recovery?

i'll try this when i get the unit. problem is i still need to recover what's currently in it, so i can't just factory reset or reflash stock right away.

That will probably be your only option though. Ideally, most of it is stored in the Google account and is restored when you flash and log in again. OK... not everything, but most of it. You have to reconstruct the missing things manually and/or live with the loss of personal data (this happened to me too when my beloved HTC-One M7 entered the Android heaven).

Yeah, but there's an app my mom uses that isn't synced on the cloud, or rather, my mom forgot to set it up to syncmaybe I'll just buy a cheap LCD TFT screen for it. The original screen replacement is very VERY expensive compared to the TFT one.

Can't you reflash stock using HOME_CSC instead of CSC? I've never tried but the HOME_CSC doesn't contain the .pit file that reformats all your partitions

never tried it, probably won't try it. too dangerous haha

already tried flashing stock via odin, still nothing.
what happens is that it boots, shows the samsung logo then black screen.
recovery works, download mode works, charging works. only system doesn't work.
seen in some forums that you gotta replace the screen, some say you have to replace the motherboard. BOTH VERY EXPENSIVE.

Just replaced the screen with a cheap incell lcd, got it to work.

[Q] stuck at AT&A after flashed clean rom with odin, weird!!!

Hello,
I have weird problem with my Samsung captivate.
I install a new rom on my device and it work well for several hours but than it suddenly stop to work.
After a reset my device get stuck on the at&t screen.
I entered the download mode and flashed clean rom with odin (and check the Master Clear option).
But it still get stuck on the at&t screen.
Is this can be hardware problem?
Is there any way to get the log file from the boot to find out what is the problem?

If you can get in recovery, do a factory reset.
Also, you can reflash with Odin3 one click downloader. If you get the AT&T boot loop again, remove the battery, wait 5min.. and turn back on your phone.
Don't forget that after a flash it can take quite a while before the phone boots up as it has to rebuild his dalvik cache.
You can use UART to get the information.
Here's my setup. This is still a work in progress.
adam, i got some stuff to make those connectors but i think it's gonna have to wait till after finals. just a couple weeks and ill let you know if i have any luck.
the .008" endmills i need are $24 each, god forbid i break one! i can try a .010"endmill to keep the cost down(i found .010" endmills for about $10 from a different supplier). but then the contacts will be .005-.006" wide not .008" and are more likely to break and pull off the board in the process. im gonna try something else first, maybe it can still be done chemically if i'm carefull.
then you should have what you need to jtag the phone so you can test this more fully.
Dani, this is not the right topic, however thank you.

I need major help, i think my i727 is bricked??

So i need all the help i can get. I tried installing Cynogen mod 10 from 9 and i got stuck on the bootloader screen. so i tried flashing darksidewipe to wipe the cache but that didnt work as well. So i tried restoring my old rom i backed up and it just freezes in CWM. so i tried pulling the battery out and going back into CWM and tried factory resetting but once i pressed that it goes to the loading screen where it explains that its wiping.. then it just freezes.. tried everything and nothing works.. has my phone been bricked?????
please help...
thanks everyone.
Soft bricked sure. But luckily not hard bricked. Flash the original stock tar through odin. Should rewrite your ROM and also your recovery too. You'll be fine. I have faith in you.

If you're genuinely concerned that you've bricked, pull your battery out for 30 minutes then put it back in and try to force your phone into download mode. If it gets there, restore your phone to stock with ODIN. If you're able to do that successfully, you were soft-bricked (at worst). If ODIN doesn't recognize your device or your phone won't boot into download, you've got a $600 paperweight. Not necessarily applicable to this situation, as it seems you've already resolved the soft brick, but something to keep in mind going forward.

[Q] NOWAY!!! Bricked again??

I recovered my tab from a soft brick a couple of days ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995876 by flashing stock HC with Odin and then flashed SkyHigh. Did the Odin flash, then flashed SkyHigh via CWM, wiped everything, re-flashed SkyHigh, then ICS gapps and everything seemed ok... Then just now it did the exact same thing it did last time and it froze and would get stuck at the "Galaxy Tab 7.7" screen. I can boot into CWM but it won't let me wipe or install anything.
Which firmware should I use to bring it back? People said HC before, but what's the difference between that and flashing straight into ICS?
Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I wipe data, cache and dalvik everytime I flash. Am I wiping something I shouldn't, wrong procedure or do I need to send the tab back?
Thanks!
Looks like you are still getting partition corruption........
If you just flash back to stock for a while and see what happens over the next week? If it continues, I would return for repair....
But for me:
If CWM recovery isn't working.....
1st, I would try;
1. Reflash CWM recovery with Odin (don't boot)
2. Power off
3. Immediately flash SkyHigh ROM (flash ROM will also auto wipe cache and dalvik)
2nd, I would try;
1. Flash any stock ICS for your device model with Odin (DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING yet)
2. Flash CWM recovery
3. Flash v3.5
4. Boot.......
5. Recovery - factory reset and immediately,
6. Flash SkyHigh ROM
7. Reboot

you should avoid using any custom rom in the meantime to observe the condition of your device
I suggest that you first flash HC then wipe your system completely from there before flashing ICS
avoid wiping your system if you have stock ICS since this may completely fry your EMMC
Thanks. I tried both, no luck. The flashing process is fine, but then I always get stuck at the Tab 7.7 screen. I can boot in download mode and CWM still, but when I try to flash SkyHigh the Aroma installer either freezes or reboots to the screen of doom.
What state should I leave the tab in if I'm going to send it to Sammy? Also I travel a lot so I bought it in Australia on ebay, it was a Singaporean import covered by 3rd party warranty but the seller is no longer in business! And I'm nowhere near Sin or Oz... I will be in KL, Malaysia and Manila for a few days though, how are the service centres there? Will they take it in or refuse it because of the country of purchase?
Anything else I could try now or do I just risk aggravating the situation?

There is no "we". It doesn't matter HC or ICS. Both can be susceptible to the brick bug......
Just don't factory reset in CWM with stock. That's why I gave a few suggestions/methods to try

based on your previous thread you managed to flashed HC then fixed the bootloop by forcing it into recovery mode and doing a wipe from there..you should leave it at that state if your turn it in for service..or flash ICS if you want, just don't send it with custom firmware because it will definitely void your warranty

I'm not totally sure if your device has ever actually booted with SkyHigh or not?
If not;
Have you checked the md5 checksum found in Dev-host download link to ensure your download is not corrupted?
If you need to send for repair, ensure the device is stock and all root app / evidence is removed.
Sorry, can't help with the warranty issue,
But as suggested a couple of times, that you use the device in complete stock (no root or CWM) for a while and see what happens.....

It did boot and I ran SkyHigh for 2 days from shortly after recovery to the second brick.
Will it make any difference if it has CWM recovery when I return it? If yes, I guess I'll just flash HC with Odin and send it back...
Has anyone had any experience with returning a bricked device with corrupted partitions?

recovery should also be stock so i recommend a complete flash via odin
here in manila we could directly send a device at any service center as long as it is covered by warranty..given that you also bought the device locally
i am not sure about those that were bought online like yours
UPDATE: I Odin flashed P6800DXLB3 and left it there to die a slow death at the 7.7 screen since I have no way of switching it off. Than after over 30 mins it the glowing Samsung screen appeared and then the boot animation, but it now loops between these two.
Is it a bad or good thing?

Hold the power button down continuously for 10 seconds to "force" power off.
Letting it "die" may possibly damage your battery permanently
Take it to the service center, because even if you get it going, most likely the corrupt partition will cause problems again soon enough........

Actually when I do that it restarts it, it doesn't switch it off.
In the end I managed to boot it into stock recovery after flashing stock HC P6800DXLB3, wiped everything and this time it booted up. I rebooted a couple of times to make sure it worked and then flashed stock ICS P6800XXLQ1. I'll keep it this way for a few days and see what happens, then in the meanwhile liaise with Sammy cust support to decide what to do.
So if anyone is having the same problem, all I did was flash P6800DXLB3, wait A LONG TIME till it would go into bootloop at animation screen, stock recovery (power + vol up), wiped data + cache, rebooted.
Two questions:
- Why when on stock it is ok to wipe in stock recovery but not in CWM?
- If they ask me what I've been doing with my tab, can I mention flashing official, unrooted firmwares via ODIN, or will they not cover that on warranty?
Thanks for all the help so far.

Stock recovery uses a different protocol for erasing/formatting then CWM.
The CWM one is faster but it can fry your memory chip.
Samsung says the stock recovery is safe.
Don't tell the service center that you have been flashing using odin, just tell them you upgraded in Kies and then it failed to boot.

HELP bricked att lg g2

I have the ATT model g2. it was running android 4.2.2 and i rooted. i got an OTA notification yesterday so i unrooted it, and uninstalled busybox. and went ahead with the update. now, my phone does not turn on. you go to turn it on and the lg logo flashes for a second or two, then a black screen, if you look closely you can tell that the screen panel is still lit, but nothing shows up. It will not boot to download mode, and it does boot to the (stock lg, not custom) recovery, but when i hit the power button to do the hard reset, i get the black screen again, and no boot. when i connect it to my computer, it gives me a bunch of popups saying that i need to reformat a drive before i can use it, somewhere around 15-20 of them? ive run out of ideas to fix it. any and all help is appreciated. :crying::crying::crying::crying: would really like my g2 back, im back to my old phone which was a nexus 5 that has a terribly cracked screen, and i really like to get the g2 back rather than having to pay to get my screen replaced.

Okay XDA, I need your help getting my phone running. (Black screen problem)

Okay so I bought this S6, 2 days ago from a guy really cheap. I have some experience with Samsung devices so I thought I could fix it piece of cake turns out I can't. So I got twrp, and download mode working and I can transfer files to the phone while in twrp no problem. Download mode works fine too. The problem I have is that whatever I do the phone shows the "Samsung Galaxy S6, powered by android" logo and then the screen turns black. The little led light keeps shining blue light and the phone even vibrates sometimes.
At first I though that I could just flash stock 6.0.1 rom though odin and I did that. Same problem black screen (I got the firmware from sammobile). After that I tried the tyrannus rom and I followed his instruction and same problem again. At last I tried XtreStoLite and same problem. A guy in another thread told me that I need to reflash a kernel so I tried the SpaceX MM Kernel and still the same problem.
Oh almost forgot the device is the SM-G920F.
Any thoughts?
So you have TWRP, format all data.
Download the modem and bootloader for MM and flash with odin in download mode.

https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24531172553916564 under CP button
Then flash stock 6.0.1 firmware

I've done exactly that and now I tried it again. So after everything is flashed I get the "Samsung Galaxy S6, powered by android" and then a blue droid logo that said "Installing system update" and something about erasing data, then it went back to "Samsung Galaxy S6, powered by android" and then black screen with a blue/cyan light. How long should I wait on that screen? I waited about 10 minutes and then I got a vibration from the phone but still black with the light. The samsung boot animation should come up if it's working right?

Should that matter? The guy I bought the phone from said that it was unlocked and I've tried to flash the Nordic firmware from Sammobile. There's 2 swedish stock firmwares, one is "Tre" and the other one is "VDS". I don't know what "VDS" means even though I tried to google it and Tre should be really bad for my reception. Yes! In the advanced wipe section look for the file system of the partitions.

So after flashing the Sweden(VDS) it went back to the black screen, so I did a battery pull vol down + power and then I tried to start it again. Now it got to 2 cog wheels spinning and saying Android is starting optimizing app x out of 32. Then it went to Android is starting and starting apps. I waited there for 10 minutes and I got a vibration and then nothing, the cog wheels only kept spinning. Seems like it got stuck there. So I did the battery pull again, black screen then I tried to do a factory reset in the stock recovery and nothing change. Now I'm getting the black screen again.
This is so weird :crying:
OK! Try to flash it again and when you see optimizing turn the phone off. Then make a factory reset and boot up to see what is going to do.

Okay, so I flashed the Sweden(VDS) and then when it booted it ended up with black screen, and then I did the battery pull and I got back to the android is starting screen with the cog wheel. Then I turned the phone off and and did a factory reset with samsungs recovery. Then when I started it I ended up with black screen again so I did a battery pull once again and started it. Then I got to the Android is starting screen with the cog wheels again, it changed the language to swedish though. Then it started optimizing apps xx of 34 and now its stuck at Android is starting starting apps. Do you think this might be a hardware problem? I'm have no clue what to do anymore.
Right now I'm downloading the Sweden(Tre) stock rom from sammobile, will report back later of if there's some changes.
If it is a hardware problem I can't think of what could it be. Anyways, waiting on the report. Hope this will work!
@Nedrozak Okay after a break I continued to try, the Sweden(Tre) firmware won't flash in odin. I've also tried to flash the phone in Kies and Smart Switch PC. Both programs ended up the same as before with the black screen with the blue led light. I couldn't even get it to the optimizing screen. I've also tried 5.1.1 and I can get it to the optimizing apps screen too, 5.0.2 can't be flashed.
I also found out using Kies and Smart Switch PC that the original firmware the phone used to have is the NEE firmware (Nordic Countries). Tomorrow I might go and ask some tech shop to estimate a repair cost, I might be able to get a new motherboard too for free we'll see what happens. I'm like out of options anyway seems like no one else on this forum seems to have the same problem so maybe it's the hardware that's faulty.
The last thing I might try is a custom rom like cyanogenmod, that I can try to flash otherwise I'm out of ideas, and energy too :silly:
Maybe leave it on cogwheels Android is starting and Starting apps during night? Then I'm afraid that the screen will burn and the screen in almost new and worth a bit of money.

Yes, it will be very bad to leave it on. Maybe going to the tech shop is the best option even if you can't get free motherboard.
