I recovered my tab from a soft brick a couple of days ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995876 by flashing stock HC with Odin and then flashed SkyHigh. Did the Odin flash, then flashed SkyHigh via CWM, wiped everything, re-flashed SkyHigh, then ICS gapps and everything seemed ok... Then just now it did the exact same thing it did last time and it froze and would get stuck at the "Galaxy Tab 7.7" screen. I can boot into CWM but it won't let me wipe or install anything.
Which firmware should I use to bring it back? People said HC before, but what's the difference between that and flashing straight into ICS?
Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I wipe data, cache and dalvik everytime I flash. Am I wiping something I shouldn't, wrong procedure or do I need to send the tab back?
Thanks!
Looks like you are still getting partition corruption........
If you just flash back to stock for a while and see what happens over the next week? If it continues, I would return for repair....
But for me:
If CWM recovery isn't working.....
1st, I would try;
1. Reflash CWM recovery with Odin (don't boot)
2. Power off
3. Immediately flash SkyHigh ROM (flash ROM will also auto wipe cache and dalvik)
2nd, I would try;
1. Flash any stock ICS for your device model with Odin (DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING yet)
2. Flash CWM recovery
3. Flash v3.5
4. Boot.......
5. Recovery - factory reset and immediately,
6. Flash SkyHigh ROM
7. Reboot

you should avoid using any custom rom in the meantime to observe the condition of your device
I suggest that you first flash HC then wipe your system completely from there before flashing ICS
avoid wiping your system if you have stock ICS since this may completely fry your EMMC
Thanks. I tried both, no luck. The flashing process is fine, but then I always get stuck at the Tab 7.7 screen. I can boot in download mode and CWM still, but when I try to flash SkyHigh the Aroma installer either freezes or reboots to the screen of doom.
What state should I leave the tab in if I'm going to send it to Sammy? Also I travel a lot so I bought it in Australia on ebay, it was a Singaporean import covered by 3rd party warranty but the seller is no longer in business! And I'm nowhere near Sin or Oz... I will be in KL, Malaysia and Manila for a few days though, how are the service centres there? Will they take it in or refuse it because of the country of purchase?
Anything else I could try now or do I just risk aggravating the situation?

There is no "we". It doesn't matter HC or ICS. Both can be susceptible to the brick bug......
Just don't factory reset in CWM with stock. That's why I gave a few suggestions/methods to try

based on your previous thread you managed to flashed HC then fixed the bootloop by forcing it into recovery mode and doing a wipe from there..you should leave it at that state if your turn it in for service..or flash ICS if you want, just don't send it with custom firmware because it will definitely void your warranty

I'm not totally sure if your device has ever actually booted with SkyHigh or not?
If not;
Have you checked the md5 checksum found in Dev-host download link to ensure your download is not corrupted?
If you need to send for repair, ensure the device is stock and all root app / evidence is removed.
Sorry, can't help with the warranty issue,
But as suggested a couple of times, that you use the device in complete stock (no root or CWM) for a while and see what happens.....

It did boot and I ran SkyHigh for 2 days from shortly after recovery to the second brick.
Will it make any difference if it has CWM recovery when I return it? If yes, I guess I'll just flash HC with Odin and send it back...
Has anyone had any experience with returning a bricked device with corrupted partitions?

recovery should also be stock so i recommend a complete flash via odin
here in manila we could directly send a device at any service center as long as it is covered by warranty..given that you also bought the device locally
i am not sure about those that were bought online like yours
UPDATE: I Odin flashed P6800DXLB3 and left it there to die a slow death at the 7.7 screen since I have no way of switching it off. Than after over 30 mins it the glowing Samsung screen appeared and then the boot animation, but it now loops between these two.
Is it a bad or good thing?

Hold the power button down continuously for 10 seconds to "force" power off.
Letting it "die" may possibly damage your battery permanently
Take it to the service center, because even if you get it going, most likely the corrupt partition will cause problems again soon enough........

Actually when I do that it restarts it, it doesn't switch it off.
In the end I managed to boot it into stock recovery after flashing stock HC P6800DXLB3, wiped everything and this time it booted up. I rebooted a couple of times to make sure it worked and then flashed stock ICS P6800XXLQ1. I'll keep it this way for a few days and see what happens, then in the meanwhile liaise with Sammy cust support to decide what to do.
So if anyone is having the same problem, all I did was flash P6800DXLB3, wait A LONG TIME till it would go into bootloop at animation screen, stock recovery (power + vol up), wiped data + cache, rebooted.
Two questions:
- Why when on stock it is ok to wipe in stock recovery but not in CWM?
- If they ask me what I've been doing with my tab, can I mention flashing official, unrooted firmwares via ODIN, or will they not cover that on warranty?
Thanks for all the help so far.

Stock recovery uses a different protocol for erasing/formatting then CWM.
The CWM one is faster but it can fry your memory chip.
Samsung says the stock recovery is safe.
Don't tell the service center that you have been flashing using odin, just tell them you upgraded in Kies and then it failed to boot.

Hello,
I have weird problem with my Samsung captivate.
I install a new rom on my device and it work well for several hours but than it suddenly stop to work.
After a reset my device get stuck on the at&t screen.
I entered the download mode and flashed clean rom with odin (and check the Master Clear option).
But it still get stuck on the at&t screen.
Is this can be hardware problem?
Is there any way to get the log file from the boot to find out what is the problem?

If you can get in recovery, do a factory reset.
Also, you can reflash with Odin3 one click downloader. If you get the AT&T boot loop again, remove the battery, wait 5min.. and turn back on your phone.
Don't forget that after a flash it can take quite a while before the phone boots up as it has to rebuild his dalvik cache.
You can use UART to get the information.
Here's my setup. This is still a work in progress.
adam, i got some stuff to make those connectors but i think it's gonna have to wait till after finals. just a couple weeks and ill let you know if i have any luck.
the .008" endmills i need are $24 each, god forbid i break one! i can try a .010"endmill to keep the cost down(i found .010" endmills for about $10 from a different supplier). but then the contacts will be .005-.006" wide not .008" and are more likely to break and pull off the board in the process. im gonna try something else first, maybe it can still be done chemically if i'm carefull.
then you should have what you need to jtag the phone so you can test this more fully.
Dani, this is not the right topic, however thank you.
tried installing glorious overdose but I tried to wipe data, and it stayed there for about 10min so i pulled out the battery. i tried a second time but without wiping data (i didnt know WTH i was thinking) so it rebooted and was stuck at boot screen saying create new partition and system not avaliable (sumthing like that) so i decided to try odin so i can go back to stock firmware and it finished and now it stays at the bootscreen blinking i tried recovery im stuck.
before you odin, reinstall the phones drivers on your pc. connect the phone to the pc without the battery, hold the volume down button and the trackpad and reinsert the battery. when you odin, make sure only auto reboot is checked, and put the pit file in the pit slot and the tar file in the pda slot. if you use kies to update firmware, reinstall drivers again before updating.
You may need to check "Re-Partition" in Odin.
shouldnt need to repart, in fact it may be a bad idea. every time i odined and accidentally had repart checked, it screwed something up. most recently the stock messaging app didnt work after odin. i have since switched to go sms, but still made sure i had a clean firmware install. i would try odin without repartitioning first and see how that goes. if something is wrong, you can always odin again. the first time i tried to flash a rom i bricked because i flashed cwm through rom manager. the thread where i found the odin file said make sure only auto reboot is checked. besides, if the rom didnt flash correctly, then it didnt convert any partitions anyway.
ok i had the same problem for the first time i tried to install a custom rom, theres a way that you can fix it with out odin. follow this steps... i promise it will work.
1)boot into the red cwm voodoo lagfix recovery
2)wipe data/factory reset
3)wipe cache partion
4)after all the steps above are completed, go to apply sdcard:update.zip
the its going to take you to the regular cwm once there follow this steps...
1)install the custom you want to install, but make sure that it doesnt need special mounts and unmounts, so follow the instruction flash the rom and it should fix it

I tried the method above but ater reboot it stays on the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G boot screen and does nothing else. I'm hesitant and Flash Bootloader but what do you all think?
flashing bootloader in that package doesn't break it.

This is my current problem as well, except I have tried checking flash bootloader and have also tried Odin, but all to no avail. Can anyone help me? This is my situation:
I've had my sidekick for about a year now and have gone through the typical problems of a sidekick user. Then yesterday, my sidekick's alarm woke me as normal, but I was unable to turn it off because my touch screen wasn't working. So i battery pulled, restarted, and noticed that the screen stayed on the "T-Mobile Sidekick 4g SAMSUNG" start up screen and did not budge. I tried battery draining, more battery pulling, and nothing worked. So i did a lot of research on here and other websites and decided to use Odin. After initial problems of a newbie, I eventually figured it out and got it to RESET and PASS, but the subsequent reboot only caused my phone to be stuck in the same Sidekick start up screen it has been getting stuck in. Similarly, after many tries, Heimdall has done the same for me. Sorry if that was a long read (also, I hope its cool that i bumped this thread with my own problems), but is there anything else i can do? I'd really like to use my phone again..
I've been working for hours trying to figure out how to fix it, and I just don't know. The end result is always just the freezing at the t-mobile start up screen..Also, since i forgot to mention, I can only get into download mode with the volume down+trackball method because otherwise it would just go to the regular start up screen and freeze. I don't know if that means anything, but yeah.
Have you used heimdall yet? I bricked my SK4G the other day when flashing a rom and heimdall put it back to stock within 5 minutes of me bricking it.
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately yes, I did. With flash bootloader unchecked and checked. It says it disconnects after everything is done and it restarts, only to become frozen at the start screen again =/. I don't know if there is some silly detail that im missing that makes the flash rather than just restart, but all i can manage to make it do is restart.
Sigh. Guess im going phone shopping.
How did u get the phone in dl. Mode
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
I had to plug the phone into my computer without the battery, hold volume and the track ball, then pop the battery in. Any other attempts would simply start it up/freeze it.
Ok did u have heimdall started first?

And what rom did u last have?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
I'm not entirely sure if I had it started first, so I'll try it that way now. And the last ROM that I had? Honestly not really sure what that means =p, but i've never flashed one and I had the most recent sidekick update installed (though it is possible that I had done a factory reset at some point to fix an error).

Just tried it. Without flashing bootloaders, it finishes and restarts to my frozen start up screen as normal. However, when i flash bootloaders, it gets to "uploading pit", but the upload fails and it reboots my phone. But this time, it reboots into download mode. A welcome change from my start up screen. Maybe there's hope.
Ive been using the thread to Odin back to stock as im getting a replacement phone in a few days. Followed everything correctly, but Ive been getting a boot loop between the green android guy and the white Samsung startup logos. Redid the process in odin and now im getting "firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in Kies and try again" when I go to download mode. i know I have a saved Nandroid backup on my SDcard, I just cant get to it. I also have mini Kies installed on my computer if there is a way to fix it thru that. I cant figure out how to get into recovery mode either. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated! Im just trying to get my phone working until my replacement is here.

Can't go to stock recovery in this case. This issue only occoured when Odin to stock ROM after using/flashing custom ROM that you forgot to format system or clean data. I've run into this problem before
It looks like after all this, Titanium Backup's backup was erased. I do have a Nandroid saved on my SDcard. Is there a way to pull everything from that? When I go to CWM and try to do a Nandroid, it says there isnt anything there. But When I connect to my computer, I can see the saved backup. I have been able to pull a few backed up apps off the Nandroid backup, but only certain ones or it says batch restore failed. Im wonder how it can see the Nandroids, but CWM cant? They're saved on my SDcard.
Is there another way Titanium Backup saves backups that I could possibly get to them? Im really trying to figure this out before my replacement phone gets here in a few days. I did backup everything, Im just having a difficult time restoring after the numerous problems Ive had thanks to Tmobile's "troubleshooting"
What are you currently running? If you are back to stock titanium won't function correctly as you have to be rooted. But since you mentioned cwm I wasn't sure.

Im just on stock but I am rooted. I just dont know where all my backups went after the bootloop and issues with reverting to stock after Tmobilr screwed up my phone trying to figure out why I kept getting "Call Ended" when trying to dial out.
Where is your nandroid backup currently located?

Seems normal. Not sure why it wouldn't be visible. Sorry I can't be more help.

In recovery they are visible, but when I go to flash one it says no files found..
I was also stuck in a boot loop after attempting to get my phone back to stock since I got a replacement phone. Followed all of the instructions, but realized although I did a factory reset, I forgot to wipe data. So I simply got CWM through Odin....got into recovery wiped data....rebooted and voila! I'm back to stock no root. It took all of 1 minute to do. Maybe that will work for you too

I was running CM 10 and tried to flash the stock ROM. I flashed it fine (no errors in CWM, I also did clear the cache, dalvik, wiped system) after that I pressed reboot and nothing happened no Samsung just a black screen. I waited for around 10 minutes and then finally took out the battery. After that the phone wouldn't boot, recovery or download wouldn't work either. I tried everything I could and figured it's hard bricked. So if you have any suggestions on this they will be greatly appreciated. I still have my T-Mobile warranty, and the question I have is would they accept a phone that is rooted, but won't even boot so basically there is no way of finding out if it's rooted or not?

First error was you wiped system before reboot so there was nothing there to boot into... Leave the battery out for a bit then insert and boot into recovery.. reflash rom and this time only wipe cache and dalvik not system.. reboot.. Also how charged was the battery? maybe it is almost dead and needs charging!

Wait... you wiped system after flashing stock...? That wiped the stock rom That's why nothing booted after the reboot.
I don't know why you can't get into download mode... When you plug in a usb when the battery is out does the phone vibrate? If not, try another usb cable. If that fails then you do have a hardware issue. If the phone vibrates hold vol + and vol - and power and reinsert battery-you should get download mode.
AFAIK, they (T-Mo) put the phone in download mode and check the flash counter. If it says anything other than "no" they will not accept it. Any odin flash adds to the flash counter.

As said before it's a brick, no screen, no vibration nothing. And I don't think T-Mo can even get to the phone unless they jtag it or something, which they will most likely not do as it will cause discomfort and timeloss to the customers (ME)

Well I doubt they can do that at the store (I don't have any confidence in the salespeople's tech ability there lol), so if you are under warranty just tell them that when you unplugged it this morning it was like that
If it doesn't vibrate when plugged in and no battery installed then it sounds like a hard brick.
I think they do the manufacturer warranty as an exchange on the spot, so even if they do figure it out eventually you should be good.
But it would suck if they can get it into download mode at the store... better try numerous usb ports (even switch computers to be sure!) and cables to be sure Also wouldn't hurt to leave the battery out overnight and try again. If they get it in download mode... well two things. One they won't ever honor any warranty on the phone anymore (and they will give the phone back to you), but two... if they can get it in download mode have them leave it like that and rush back home - and then you're back in business
Kind of a win-win...

I got a replacement going from T-Mobile, they just sent out the new phone today, but I'm confused do I send them my broken one right now? or wait till the new one comes?
They should have explained everything on the phone, they will send you a box to return it in . And if they find out that it has been rooted and modded , you could be charged the full price for the phone. Every time I sent the phone back I've always read it back to stock if yours was bricked hopefully they won't notice

I was flashing a friends galaxy blaze 4g back to stock. After following all the instructions the flash went through. But now I cannot go past the setup screen. I can see that some of my old apps are still there but since i get a force close at the setup I cannot go beyond that. I tried reflashing several times but the same problem. Any suggestions?

Go into recovery, if you have a custom one still, if not then flash one with Odin. Once in there, do a nandroid to back up your stuff and then wipe /data, /cache, dalvik cache, /system and do a factory reset and try again. If that doesn't work still then you may need to wipe /emmc also. Google for the stock ICS firmware and instructions.

Can't even get into recovery mode or download mode
Hi guys, I had a custom rom installed on the Galaxy S Blaze by TM for months. I tried to revert it back to stock rom. I failed to get into download mode for over an hour using the Vol Up/Down/Power key combination after removing the battery. I tried every possible combination including when to let power key go, other keys go, battery in, out, etc. Anyway, I finally was able to enter into ODIN mode thru ADB REBOOT DOWNLOAD after turning on the debugging with previous rom. Then I installed the stock rom downloaded from perhaps a wrong place. Everything installed correctly, ODIN passed, and I smiled like a winner.
However, I can't get past the setup due to the error, "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Click ok, and I get the new error, "The application Google Services Framework.... stopped". Then, "the application Calendar storage... stopped". Then, the process about gapps stopped. Basically, I can't get any further on a so called "stock rom".
My dilemma is, I can't get into CWM recovery mode or the download mode anymore. It appears that if I enter the right combination, I get a few scattered pixels on the screen (instead of the CWM menu), and the number of pixels keep increasing until the screen turns practically white (in approx 5 minutes). Same store with recovery mode, computer won't even load drivers anymore, let alone ODIN reading it on a COM port. Getting into ODIN was already an impossible task 4 hours ago.
Help please!

I hate getting to Odin on this phone... maybe a USB jig could work?

That's some background info.
You can buy them on eBay too.
