[Q] Sidekick 4G Bricked!!!!!!! odin dosent work - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

tried installing glorious overdose but I tried to wipe data, and it stayed there for about 10min so i pulled out the battery. i tried a second time but without wiping data (i didnt know WTH i was thinking) so it rebooted and was stuck at boot screen saying create new partition and system not avaliable (sumthing like that) so i decided to try odin so i can go back to stock firmware and it finished and now it stays at the bootscreen blinking i tried recovery im stuck.

before you odin, reinstall the phones drivers on your pc. connect the phone to the pc without the battery, hold the volume down button and the trackpad and reinsert the battery. when you odin, make sure only auto reboot is checked, and put the pit file in the pit slot and the tar file in the pda slot. if you use kies to update firmware, reinstall drivers again before updating.

You may need to check "Re-Partition" in Odin.

shouldnt need to repart, in fact it may be a bad idea. every time i odined and accidentally had repart checked, it screwed something up. most recently the stock messaging app didnt work after odin. i have since switched to go sms, but still made sure i had a clean firmware install. i would try odin without repartitioning first and see how that goes. if something is wrong, you can always odin again. the first time i tried to flash a rom i bricked because i flashed cwm through rom manager. the thread where i found the odin file said make sure only auto reboot is checked. besides, if the rom didnt flash correctly, then it didnt convert any partitions anyway.

ok i had the same problem for the first time i tried to install a custom rom, theres a way that you can fix it with out odin. follow this steps... i promise it will work.
1)boot into the red cwm voodoo lagfix recovery
2)wipe data/factory reset
3)wipe cache partion
4)after all the steps above are completed, go to apply sdcard:update.zip
the its going to take you to the regular cwm once there follow this steps...
1)install the custom you want to install, but make sure that it doesnt need special mounts and unmounts, so follow the instruction flash the rom and it should fix it

Heimdall worked perfectly when I bricked my phone.

Thank you!! ^ I was boutta cry when it was Rebooting .... Yea I guess I messed something up with odin

I tried the method above but ater reboot it stays on the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G boot screen and does nothing else. I'm hesitant and Flash Bootloader but what do you all think?

flashing bootloader in that package doesn't break it.

My advice is do whatever it takes, and besides, don't worry about breaking something that's already broken, if you know what I mean...

This is my current problem as well, except I have tried checking flash bootloader and have also tried Odin, but all to no avail. Can anyone help me? This is my situation:
I've had my sidekick for about a year now and have gone through the typical problems of a sidekick user. Then yesterday, my sidekick's alarm woke me as normal, but I was unable to turn it off because my touch screen wasn't working. So i battery pulled, restarted, and noticed that the screen stayed on the "T-Mobile Sidekick 4g SAMSUNG" start up screen and did not budge. I tried battery draining, more battery pulling, and nothing worked. So i did a lot of research on here and other websites and decided to use Odin. After initial problems of a newbie, I eventually figured it out and got it to RESET and PASS, but the subsequent reboot only caused my phone to be stuck in the same Sidekick start up screen it has been getting stuck in. Similarly, after many tries, Heimdall has done the same for me. Sorry if that was a long read (also, I hope its cool that i bumped this thread with my own problems), but is there anything else i can do? I'd really like to use my phone again..

I've been working for hours trying to figure out how to fix it, and I just don't know. The end result is always just the freezing at the t-mobile start up screen..Also, since i forgot to mention, I can only get into download mode with the volume down+trackball method because otherwise it would just go to the regular start up screen and freeze. I don't know if that means anything, but yeah.

Have you used heimdall yet? I bricked my SK4G the other day when flashing a rom and heimdall put it back to stock within 5 minutes of me bricking it.

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately yes, I did. With flash bootloader unchecked and checked. It says it disconnects after everything is done and it restarts, only to become frozen at the start screen again =/. I don't know if there is some silly detail that im missing that makes the flash rather than just restart, but all i can manage to make it do is restart.

Sigh. Guess im going phone shopping.

How did u get the phone in dl. Mode
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA

I had to plug the phone into my computer without the battery, hold volume and the track ball, then pop the battery in. Any other attempts would simply start it up/freeze it.

Ok did u have heimdall started first?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA

And what rom did u last have?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA

I'm not entirely sure if I had it started first, so I'll try it that way now. And the last ROM that I had? Honestly not really sure what that means =p, but i've never flashed one and I had the most recent sidekick update installed (though it is possible that I had done a factory reset at some point to fix an error).
---------- Post added at 01:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 PM ----------
Just tried it. Without flashing bootloaders, it finishes and restarts to my frozen start up screen as normal. However, when i flash bootloaders, it gets to "uploading pit", but the upload fails and it reboots my phone. But this time, it reboots into download mode. A welcome change from my start up screen. Maybe there's hope.

[Q] stuck at AT&A after flashed clean rom with odin, weird!!!

Hello,
I have weird problem with my Samsung captivate.
I install a new rom on my device and it work well for several hours but than it suddenly stop to work.
After a reset my device get stuck on the at&t screen.
I entered the download mode and flashed clean rom with odin (and check the Master Clear option).
But it still get stuck on the at&t screen.
Is this can be hardware problem?
Is there any way to get the log file from the boot to find out what is the problem?

If you can get in recovery, do a factory reset.
Also, you can reflash with Odin3 one click downloader. If you get the AT&T boot loop again, remove the battery, wait 5min.. and turn back on your phone.
Don't forget that after a flash it can take quite a while before the phone boots up as it has to rebuild his dalvik cache.
You can use UART to get the information.
Here's my setup. This is still a work in progress.
adam, i got some stuff to make those connectors but i think it's gonna have to wait till after finals. just a couple weeks and ill let you know if i have any luck.
the .008" endmills i need are $24 each, god forbid i break one! i can try a .010"endmill to keep the cost down(i found .010" endmills for about $10 from a different supplier). but then the contacts will be .005-.006" wide not .008" and are more likely to break and pull off the board in the process. im gonna try something else first, maybe it can still be done chemically if i'm carefull.
then you should have what you need to jtag the phone so you can test this more fully.
Dani, this is not the right topic, however thank you.

ODIN doesn't actually install Files

ODIN doesn't seem to want to install any kind of odin file that I put into it on my phone.
It gets stuck at dbdata.rfs and then it just remains there for over 2 minutes.
Tried to pop the battery back in once it got there, but that didn't work either.
Also can't get into recovery, by pressing volume down + power key.
You should know my phone died 2 days ago, and I used ODIN to bring it back to life. By died I mean it would bootloop to the recovery and then it finally gave me the bootloader=7 error after which it would just boot into the samsung recovery and nothing else.
Does this mean I will be stuck with a phone that I cannot root or backup or even install a custom rom?

try leaving the battery in for the whole flash, also recovery is volume up+home button+power
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
I also tried leaving the battery in for the whole flash process as well, for some reason ODIN is super slow even on my comp which is not the least bit slow for the specs(3.8ghz amd 545 with 4 gb of ram ddr1666) so I do not know why it would be so slow either. when the flash is done it says 134:00 minutes and whatever rom I flash doesn't actually get flashed, it just sticks to the stock ram.
i can't even install a recovery on the phone either, and can't even get root for some reason, maybe the one click root i am using might be outdated or something.
actually just tried to do the recovery mode, but it only got me to the samsung recovery not the clockworkmod recovery. even after I had a successful flash of the odin for the recovery portion.
Are you using the PDA section? Leaving repartition UNchecked?
i was using the phone section, but whats the difference, isn't it all the same? and yes i was leaving the partition unchecked.

that's your problem right there, DO NOT use any section except PDA and PIT for flashing stuff with Odin... try again with it in PDA and you should be able to boot into it and it'll work fine
PHONE SECTION = BAD! NEVER EVER use the phone section! It can cause some seriously bad issues, the most problematic being the infamous brick(unrecoverable).

...Have you not read ANY of the tutorials??? If you want to brick you're phone (you'd be one of the few and the proud, because you really have to try to do it), then keep on using the phone section and have a $500 paperweight.

That was a little mean on my part... But come on people, please read thoroughly through the tutorials, how to's, and OPs before posting about a problem. Actually even before doing ANYTHING to your phone. Use the search, it's there for a reason. Users and Devs have taken the time to compile all of this for you and you've just wasted their time and insulted them by ignoring it.
Ok. Done ranting. Thizzmaster, sorry for the outburst. For future reference always use the PDA section for .tar.md5 files for your Charge. It matters and there is a difference.
Last time i checked, Most of these superphones are actually super pda's with phone capabilities.

[Q] stuck on factoryfs

My infuse was running aokpcb rom. i made a backup of my previous rom, AEON v1.3.1. i restored using nandroid back to AEON but when i reboot its stuck at the samsung screen. I tried GTGs Odin back to stock multiple times using different ports but it always gets stuck at factoryfs. i even rebooted the computer and tried it again but still no good. I've used Odin back to stock a couple times before so im used to the program. now ive ran out of ideas and i would greatly appreciate the help. THANKS
Try heimdall...

And don't restore with nandroid, just to a full restore back to stock with odin or hemdall and reflash the rom.
Im not 100% but i think with aeon the first boot will freeze up at the factory screen. Try pulling battery then reboot..

+1 odin sux. it's funny how some independant guys can reverse engineer what it's doing and write something better.
Happens to my Infuse all the time now, even using Heimdall. I just pull the battery, get back into the alternate download screen, reload the drivers (if necessary) on the pc and re-run Heimdall. It always seems to get stuck twice, but works the third time. The last time I took it to stock & did a "factory data reset", just to see if that would clear up whatever the issue was. Unfortunately (?), I haven't tried going back to stock since.

Sorry for not responding. I've been at a summer camp for the past week. Anyways, when i try to install drivers with heimdall it aborts the procedure and then freezes the program... and when i plug in my phone into the wall charger, the screen stays off..

Heimdall is great when properly set up and WHEN IT WORKS. What I do, and this'll bring it back from pretty much anything, is use gtg unbrick, and if it doesn't boot from that flash, (and mine doesn't because its a rogers ) , i then flash the Odin stock lb3 pack, and boom back to normal no matter what I flashed. I imagine if you're running an at&t model , you shouldn't have to do the second step. Be sure to remove the battery and reinsert at least once on any from flash to be sure its not booting correctly before going to another step. Also be sure drivers are correctly installed through kies or kies mini. I find this is easiest with Odin because it clearly shows you in bright yellow that the download connection has been established.. many times i' very had to reinstall the kies drivers, I don't know why.. but try this , and like I say once you see yellow in Odin in phone download mode, you know you're set. Once again, like this kies/gtg/try booting/if no boot/pull battery try boot again/ if still no boot Odin lb3 stock and then flash a recovery kernel to regain cwm..

ive been trying the odin lb3 from gtg and it gets stuck on dbdata.rfs instead.. im kinda flipping out...

Bricked?

Mine is stuck on the Downloading screen, shows it has progressed all the way. No button pressing combination will change anything. .Not good at all. Used Odin to flash the the same CWM recovery everybody else is using. Looks bad here. I have rooted countless Android devices and this is my first fail. Can somebody give me any advice? I just wrecked my wife's birthday gift...
so when you say that it has progressed all the way are you talking about what it says in odin? What does the odin screen say? I know whenever i flash anything in odin my tablet/phone will still say downloading do not shut down target or something like that, even when it's finished successfully.
Did you try installing a complete stock rom the ones that are in aound one gb of size there could be case where you have installed an update over a stock rom which is conflicting. Can you post a screen shot of ODIN after the installation is completed
Had same thing yesterday.
Try to root my Note, but first time I didn't get custom recovery.
Second time in hang on downloading screen.
Odin said it was finished so tried it again then Odin also hang.
Only thing I could do was reboot (and praying).
But it booted just fine.
So hope you have the same!

Stuck in boot, have cwm

Hi there. I had a stock S4g, had froyo 2.2.1. I Rooted the phone. That went fine. I went to install a new kernel (baliSGS4G) The instal got interrupted, second reboot had the android logo flashing while the normal galaxy s logo was on, so I knew from there it was screwed up...
It booted up fine actually, and i was able to operate around in on the phone, altho the home button didnt work... I went ahead and tried a restart to see what it would do and it would stick at the galaxy s boot screen and the voice would say "restore operation" and just reboot and be stuck on a boot loop...
I CANNOT get into recovery mode UNLESS I remove my sdcard... if I do I CAN... BUT it seems as tho the cwm recover is somewhat useless to me now that the sdcard isnt in.... If I boot into recovery and THEN put the card in, it saws E: Can't mount /sdcard..
Ive tried wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset... nothing..
Any suggestions? THankyou!
use any one of the "one clicks".
p.s. gb is a better os

And yeah, I actually have a galaxy SIII.....the reason i grabbed this one out is i have a little go pro style project im going to do with it and dont want to risk breaking my new phone.
I will try the newer os If i can get this fixed.. Hopefully!

Ok Lumin, I did what you said and I am getting to the command promt and it is not seeing my phone, It still shows the phone is disconnected... I have CWM recovery, is that an issue?? That opens when i hold the up,down,up button combo, not the stock download mode screen.
Very well written tutorial btw.

Try One-Click Gremlin Remover to flash and fix. Found this to be easier than Heimdall for the uninitiated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427
1 Open Gremlin remover on PC
2. Remove battery from phone
3. Hold down both the Up and Down on the Volume Rocker
4. Plug Phone into USB (without battery)
5. Insert battery into phone and replace cover
The phone should automatically boot into Download mode, and Gremlin Remover should recognize the phone. This should wipe it back to stock but leave it rooted. Then you can start again. I recommend the SGS Kernel Flasher App to flash new kernels in the future. Much less prone to error.
OK its late, i wasnt reading close enough, I was holding the power button too like an idiot... Got it to work, now my phone boots up like new.
Thanks for the help guys.

You might refrain from recommending a different flashing utility (ODIN) when somebody has already started using Heimdall and is just asking for help to finish the process. All you are doing is inviting more problems with driver and USB port issues by doing so. You gave him a simple set of instructions that mentioned nothing about drivers.
And SGS Kernel Flasher is great but it only works properly on our GB ROMs.
