Bricked? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Mine is stuck on the Downloading screen, shows it has progressed all the way. No button pressing combination will change anything. .Not good at all. Used Odin to flash the the same CWM recovery everybody else is using. Looks bad here. I have rooted countless Android devices and this is my first fail. Can somebody give me any advice? I just wrecked my wife's birthday gift...

so when you say that it has progressed all the way are you talking about what it says in odin? What does the odin screen say? I know whenever i flash anything in odin my tablet/phone will still say downloading do not shut down target or something like that, even when it's finished successfully.

Did you try installing a complete stock rom the ones that are in aound one gb of size there could be case where you have installed an update over a stock rom which is conflicting. Can you post a screen shot of ODIN after the installation is completed

Had same thing yesterday.
Try to root my Note, but first time I didn't get custom recovery.
Second time in hang on downloading screen.
Odin said it was finished so tried it again then Odin also hang.
Only thing I could do was reboot (and praying).
But it booted just fine.
So hope you have the same!

[Q] Sidekick 4G Bricked!!!!!!! odin dosent work

tried installing glorious overdose but I tried to wipe data, and it stayed there for about 10min so i pulled out the battery. i tried a second time but without wiping data (i didnt know WTH i was thinking) so it rebooted and was stuck at boot screen saying create new partition and system not avaliable (sumthing like that) so i decided to try odin so i can go back to stock firmware and it finished and now it stays at the bootscreen blinking i tried recovery im stuck.
before you odin, reinstall the phones drivers on your pc. connect the phone to the pc without the battery, hold the volume down button and the trackpad and reinsert the battery. when you odin, make sure only auto reboot is checked, and put the pit file in the pit slot and the tar file in the pda slot. if you use kies to update firmware, reinstall drivers again before updating.
You may need to check "Re-Partition" in Odin.
shouldnt need to repart, in fact it may be a bad idea. every time i odined and accidentally had repart checked, it screwed something up. most recently the stock messaging app didnt work after odin. i have since switched to go sms, but still made sure i had a clean firmware install. i would try odin without repartitioning first and see how that goes. if something is wrong, you can always odin again. the first time i tried to flash a rom i bricked because i flashed cwm through rom manager. the thread where i found the odin file said make sure only auto reboot is checked. besides, if the rom didnt flash correctly, then it didnt convert any partitions anyway.
ok i had the same problem for the first time i tried to install a custom rom, theres a way that you can fix it with out odin. follow this steps... i promise it will work.
1)boot into the red cwm voodoo lagfix recovery
2)wipe data/factory reset
3)wipe cache partion
4)after all the steps above are completed, go to apply sdcard:update.zip
the its going to take you to the regular cwm once there follow this steps...
1)install the custom you want to install, but make sure that it doesnt need special mounts and unmounts, so follow the instruction flash the rom and it should fix it
Heimdall worked perfectly when I bricked my phone.
Thank you!! ^ I was boutta cry when it was Rebooting .... Yea I guess I messed something up with odin

I tried the method above but ater reboot it stays on the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G boot screen and does nothing else. I'm hesitant and Flash Bootloader but what do you all think?
flashing bootloader in that package doesn't break it.

My advice is do whatever it takes, and besides, don't worry about breaking something that's already broken, if you know what I mean...

This is my current problem as well, except I have tried checking flash bootloader and have also tried Odin, but all to no avail. Can anyone help me? This is my situation:
I've had my sidekick for about a year now and have gone through the typical problems of a sidekick user. Then yesterday, my sidekick's alarm woke me as normal, but I was unable to turn it off because my touch screen wasn't working. So i battery pulled, restarted, and noticed that the screen stayed on the "T-Mobile Sidekick 4g SAMSUNG" start up screen and did not budge. I tried battery draining, more battery pulling, and nothing worked. So i did a lot of research on here and other websites and decided to use Odin. After initial problems of a newbie, I eventually figured it out and got it to RESET and PASS, but the subsequent reboot only caused my phone to be stuck in the same Sidekick start up screen it has been getting stuck in. Similarly, after many tries, Heimdall has done the same for me. Sorry if that was a long read (also, I hope its cool that i bumped this thread with my own problems), but is there anything else i can do? I'd really like to use my phone again..
I've been working for hours trying to figure out how to fix it, and I just don't know. The end result is always just the freezing at the t-mobile start up screen..Also, since i forgot to mention, I can only get into download mode with the volume down+trackball method because otherwise it would just go to the regular start up screen and freeze. I don't know if that means anything, but yeah.
Have you used heimdall yet? I bricked my SK4G the other day when flashing a rom and heimdall put it back to stock within 5 minutes of me bricking it.
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately yes, I did. With flash bootloader unchecked and checked. It says it disconnects after everything is done and it restarts, only to become frozen at the start screen again =/. I don't know if there is some silly detail that im missing that makes the flash rather than just restart, but all i can manage to make it do is restart.
Sigh. Guess im going phone shopping.
How did u get the phone in dl. Mode
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
I had to plug the phone into my computer without the battery, hold volume and the track ball, then pop the battery in. Any other attempts would simply start it up/freeze it.
Ok did u have heimdall started first?

And what rom did u last have?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
I'm not entirely sure if I had it started first, so I'll try it that way now. And the last ROM that I had? Honestly not really sure what that means =p, but i've never flashed one and I had the most recent sidekick update installed (though it is possible that I had done a factory reset at some point to fix an error).
---------- Post added at 01:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 PM ----------
Just tried it. Without flashing bootloaders, it finishes and restarts to my frozen start up screen as normal. However, when i flash bootloaders, it gets to "uploading pit", but the upload fails and it reboots my phone. But this time, it reboots into download mode. A welcome change from my start up screen. Maybe there's hope.

How I fixed my totally bricked Infuse

Here's the scenario.
I flashed AOKPb40 when I wasn't home. My phone was stuck on the Samsung boot screen. I tried 3 finger recov... no good. Still stuck on boot screen. Removed battery, waited a few minutes, 3 finger... still stuck on boot screen. I figured I'd wait till I get home and Odin back to stock. By time I got home my battery was dead. It wouldn't charge. It was on the charger for 2 hours and no go. I plugged the USB into PC and entered download mode. I figured what the hell... lets give it a shot. Launched Odin, started JScotts UCLB-Root-Modded Odin Package. Everything was running then... boom. Phone shut down right in the middle of FACTORYRFS. Pulled battery and tried the whole thing again... guess what... same thing. So I put my phone back on the charger and my screen showed a phone icon with a triangle with an exlcamation point and a PC icon. I thought "Oh Crap".
So here is how I fixed it.
I downloaded qkster's Heimdall One-Click package. I read up on how to use Heimdall and I was taken to a download page to download Heimdall suite. After many failed attempts to load the Heimdall package in Heimdall Front End, I kept getting a file size error. I googled the error and found qkster's re: to a guy with the same problem. Turns out the One-Click package is self executable, no need for the Heimdall front end suite. So I launched qkster's Heimdall package and it actually completed the flash! However, when the phone rebooted I was shown a partial CWM recov menu. I hit reboot and it kept taking me to the same CWM menu.
Now that I can get past the screen with the phone-caution-pc thing I tried using Odin with JScott's UCLB package. Odin finally worked all the way through, but with the same result as Heimdall, CWM Recov loop. I figured I was missing boot loaders. Flashed through Odin and still no good.
I now went all the way back to stock using GTG's Ultimate Unbrick. Voila! My phone is back! Holy toledo, 4 hours of trouble shooting and I finally have a working phone again.
Summary, Odin doesn't complete and you're stuck, here's what to do.
Use qksters Heimdall
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079
If stuck in Recov loop. Use GTG's Ultimate Unbrick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
I hope my long painful recovery story will help someone out.
Sounds like you just needed an unbrick solution with a pit file for repartition. You could have used just the UCLB3 Unbrick with the pit file, and you would have been set.

Still, glad you worked it out. This is why it's a good thing that we have many options that work via Heimdall and Odin. When one isn't doing it on your phone, just try another. We just have to be careful not to call our way of fixing it the only right way or the best way. Several ways exist, so we truly have an unbrickable device. Well, unbrickable as long as you don't bork a bootloader flash.
Edit: By the way, that phone-caution-pc thing is still download mode.

Well said jscott, and glad you got it working. I would also add, that it would appear from the initial symptoms, that maybe you just lost recovery. Several roms, including uniporn have packages that can fix that. In the uniporn thread it is in post 3.
Also, I think there is a good lesson here too for others and that would be that it would be extremely wise to know your way around Odin and heimdall before embarking on that very first flash.
Again, this is just for future reference should someone read this later on. Glad to hear you are back up and running.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Good work.
As Yuma have stated, when you lost recovery, flashing this kernel would have brought you back to working cwm to flash the rom also:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25526654&postcount=3
And when you have completed the uclb3, you could have finished it with the boot loader flash and then do a factory reset. After that, flash which every insecure kernel to get back recovery to flash what ever you wanted.
As long as you can get back into download mode, you can use any of the restore process.
Thanks all for the follow up. The biggest problem was the dead battery. After I finally got this sicker up and running with the phone plugged in my battery was at 8%. The damn thing kept crashing while in download mode. But yes, this is not the only way. I had to use qksters heimdall to at least get the phone to boot. Once I got to boot into the recovery boot loop issue I used gtg unbrick.
If it wasn't for all the posts and threads from you guys I would've been screwed. Oh, and to top it all off, xda was down when I first started down the road. Long freaking day!

The first problem I had was Odin was crashing during the factoryrfs stage. That's why I tried heimdall. I just needed something to get loaded so I could start flashing. I didn't think about going straight to uclb, would've saved me a step or two

If you were using something like my earlier rooted UCLB3 Odin options, those don't have a pit. Those aren't intended as much as an unbrick/restore option as they are for a quick way to get to rooted UCLB3. Hanging on factoryfs.rfs suggests you needed repartitioning, and the UCLB3 Unbrick provides this, since it has a pit file. The other Odin package wasn't working because you needed a pit file to restore in your situation. That's why the GTG Unbrick ended up fully restoring your phone; it has a pit. It or the UCLB3 Unbrick should have worked to "unbrick" your phone right after the first failed Odin attempt. Also, as noted by Yuma and qkster, an option available before that first Odin flash was to restore just the kernel/recovery. That option became unavailable after the first failed Odin flash. Still, many options are available, and we're glad you found a combination that worked.

I have done everythig possible that can be done taking the battery out, charging it from wall charger and charging it from usb port. letting it wait for 2 days before messing with it. One day it went one step further to the white screen where the at&t logo forms and then it reboots again. I have not done a master reset or whatever its called because I want my pics of videos and contacts. The phone has been in the otter box from day one so it looks brand new and its over a year old. I could care less about the phone once I get my pics and videos off of it I will not mess with it again. Is it possible to save pics videos and contacts? I am not sure what you mean when you ask which ROM.

Okay, since you don't want to do your own thread. Read the information in the following link and follow it to the letter. This should put you back to stock and if everything works right, you will be able to get your info off the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
If you don't know how to put the phone in download mode, take your battery out, hold down the volume +/- buttons but no power button, put the batter back in and then plug the USB (connected to a computer that has the drivers from the link installed) into the phone. Do not disconnect the phone otherwise, you may end up with a brick.

Bricked from odin tutorial!!!!

Hello all! Im new here, but have been using alot of the tutorials and mods. I recently decided to move from FROYO to ICS, using several tutorials, but didnt even make it to gingerbread I was using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705260 and at first when I ran odin, all was well, except it wouldnt boot past the ATT splash screen, and it also had the 'rainbow' screen before the samsung loading screen, so i followed this :
2.) I have rainbow distortion in recovery or in the boot animation. How can I get Gingerbread bootloaders to fix this?:
If you have rainbow distortion, you still have Froyo bootloaders. You can download THIS .rar file, extract using 7zip, and flash the tar.md5 package in Odin (use the pda slot). Flashing Gingerbread bootloaders will correct rainbow distortion in recovery and in the boot animation. Only flash these if you are having issues with rainbow distortion, and only if you have had success flashing other, less dangerous items in Odin.
After re flashing with odin, my phone will no longer turn on... at all. Ive tried getting it to go into download mode, tried using the three button recovery, and nothing. Is there anyone that could help with this!? If i cant figure it out, I might not be on the infuse forums much longer... lol
Rainbows only appear on ics or above, so if you saw rainbows, you must have flashed ics.
As the warning said, a failed bootloader flash would leave you with a brick. Did odin stop during the flash or did it say it completed succesfully?
You may try using a jig and see if that forces download mode, but i doubt you will get results from that.

The new bootloader I loaded was supposed to be a gingerbread bootloader, and it said that if I saw the rainbow screen it was becuase i had the froyo bootloader, as quoted above. Ive read in alot of different forums, and ive tried charging it, removing the battery for 10 minutes and trying to get it into d/l mode, but nothing works. I think i may just have to chalk this one up as a very mislead failure. When I used odin, it said it was completed successfully as well... Im pretty sure that the 'gingerbread bootloader' is just a bad file.
As Andros11 said, you might try using a jig, for me it would be worth the $2. price to give it a try. If it does not work there are unbrick services available for about $50.00- not too bad, considering.
Go back to that page DL the one unbrick root 1.1 flash in Odin,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
Toto that link DL the cwm with root extras then as soon as you are done flashing the first one reboot for good measure, shut it off go into download mode flash that giving you a cwm recovery, somewhere in that post I seen gingerbread loader a link maybe getting you to them, I flashed to gingerbread bootloaders, forget where I got them off xda, then flash a cm9 rom taking you to ics, somehow in that process my rainbow screen went away and I have not had that problem every since.
I did have a small problem with Odin hanging on do not turn off and it just sits there. I got tired of waiting over five minutes nothing happening, I unplugged it, pulled battery, then when I went to download mode I had that rainbow screen, but not to worry it is still in download mode, with my infuse, I has to toggle the volume button up, after it sets to the first screen then you are in complete DL mode, check Odin to be sure you got that yellow check box to be sure it sees the phone then do the flash again, the BIG TRICK HERE IS, before you maybe find the rainbow screen in DL MODE, after you pull the USB cable pull the battery, replace the battery, then turn on the phone and let it hang up in what ever screen, then pull the battery again to turn it off, replace the battery then go into download mode, and the flash will take off and only be a few minutes. That worked for me more then once. Hope that helps,

[Q] Soft Brick Help

Alright, first off, PLEASE DON'T MURDER ME. I've been researching for hours and can't come up with a fix. My buddy was doing something stupid to his Droid Charge and soft bricked it. I'm a webOS guy, so I don't know much about rooting on android, and I don't belong here, but I'm usually pretty good at fixing stuff. Not this. I don't know what he did.
With the battery in, you can't do anything. With it out and plugged in to the pc, you can push vol down to get to downloading mode. I tried some java program OneClick, didn't work. I tried Odin, that was confusing as heck. Under PDA I got the charge's tar, but it wouldn't go past initializing.
Anyone willing to step by step troubleshoot with me? He's paying me to fix it, I can split it via paypal? (Am I allowed to say that?) Just feel bad, he's going on vacation tomorrow. Fail.
OK first download this: http://www.imnuts.org/downloads/cha...L_ONE-LTE-CP_REV03_user_CL706183_ship.tar.md5
Open ODIN, plug in phone with download mode. Once phone is in download mode, put in the battery. Click PDA and put that .md5 file in. Make sure that bootloader, phone, and csc are unchecked.
Check Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time. Everything else (besides PDA) should be unchecked. Hit start, and it should finish in like 5 minutes and boot up by itself. There will be two OTA updates he will have to get.
Also make sure to put the battery back in before flashing.

I also am having issues with my droid charge being (was) soft bricked. Now it might be hard bricked. I installed the pit and is was successful, at least odin told me it was. However now my phone will not do anything. I cannot get the screen to so much as flash a glimmer of light. Hold up and plug into computer....nothing. Just try to power on...nothing. Try to go into cwm, nothing.
I am not sure what I did to start all my problems as I have flahsed ROMs with ODIN multiple times with no issue. Yesterday though it just did not take for some reason and not only that nothing would take. After failing to flash multiple ROMs that I have used many times before, I tried the "Packaged Rom that includes custom Kernel,ROM,CWM" mentioned here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160580 This worked, sort of.
This would get me into CWM but would be stuck on a boot loop back to CWM no matter what i tried. Custom .zip roms, stock .zip roms, etc.
SO thats when I tried the pit mentioned in this thread......now the phone is 100% unresponsive.
Can anyone please tell me if this can be recovered? And also can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong?

Stuck on download screen, but not in download mode.

I searched for three days before posting this, hoping for an easy answer. I tried to flash the GOV33 Lean Performance ROM last week and ran into a few problems. I followed the instructions and wiped the phone back to factory, clearing everything several times. I then tried to flash the rom as directed, but it acted like there was no phone present, so due to a lack of free time I gave it up as a bad job and started using the sidekick normally with the fresh wipe. No problems until yesterday. For some reason, for the entire day, the phone would not connect to the Tmobile network. So, when I got home I held down the power button to reboot it, and when it rebooted, it showed the downloading screen with the yellow triangle and the android with the shovel. Since then it has done and shown nothing else. I can't get my computer to recognize it to Odin it back to factory, and no button combination does anything. I am totally stuck and am inches from calling this phone bricked and letting my son shoot it.
Well I'm somewhat of a noob when it comes to Samsung phones, even with all the crazy **** I've done to this one occasionally I'm at a loss. Is it possible you have a sticky button somewhere? Like forcing download mode even after a battery pull? Also do you for sure have the proper drivers installed or rules(for Linux) to use download mode? Have you tried hiemdall? Have you tried a different USB cable or different computer?

This may be due to faulty odin . I'm not a wizard hell I look to ric an this wizard above me for help ahah xD
Ill ask a few questions first
Can the plug be falty an not reading the phone?
Are any of the buttons "sticky" in the term when you press is down it doesn't give the nice load click but kinda slowly pushes it?
Did you try this way for odin vvvvvvv? (Its my personal way I odin as it doesn't read most times on my old pc)
But yea my phone doesn't get reconized for awhile when trying t odin what I do is go into download try to odin if it doesn't work I pull the baatter an put it back in which will lead to odin with a different image then from there you want to try to odin with bootloarders on/or off if it fails turn it to the opposite (so if you turned it on an failed turn it off)
