[Q] stuck on factoryfs - Samsung Infuse 4G

My infuse was running aokpcb rom. i made a backup of my previous rom, AEON v1.3.1. i restored using nandroid back to AEON but when i reboot its stuck at the samsung screen. I tried GTGs Odin back to stock multiple times using different ports but it always gets stuck at factoryfs. i even rebooted the computer and tried it again but still no good. I've used Odin back to stock a couple times before so im used to the program. now ive ran out of ideas and i would greatly appreciate the help. THANKS

Try heimdall...

And don't restore with nandroid, just to a full restore back to stock with odin or hemdall and reflash the rom.

Im not 100% but i think with aeon the first boot will freeze up at the factory screen. Try pulling battery then reboot..

+1 odin sux. it's funny how some independant guys can reverse engineer what it's doing and write something better.

Happens to my Infuse all the time now, even using Heimdall. I just pull the battery, get back into the alternate download screen, reload the drivers (if necessary) on the pc and re-run Heimdall. It always seems to get stuck twice, but works the third time. The last time I took it to stock & did a "factory data reset", just to see if that would clear up whatever the issue was. Unfortunately (?), I haven't tried going back to stock since.

Not sure if your being understood.

Sorry for not responding. I've been at a summer camp for the past week. Anyways, when i try to install drivers with heimdall it aborts the procedure and then freezes the program... and when i plug in my phone into the wall charger, the screen stays off..

Heimdall is great when properly set up and WHEN IT WORKS. What I do, and this'll bring it back from pretty much anything, is use gtg unbrick, and if it doesn't boot from that flash, (and mine doesn't because its a rogers ) , i then flash the Odin stock lb3 pack, and boom back to normal no matter what I flashed. I imagine if you're running an at&t model , you shouldn't have to do the second step. Be sure to remove the battery and reinsert at least once on any from flash to be sure its not booting correctly before going to another step. Also be sure drivers are correctly installed through kies or kies mini. I find this is easiest with Odin because it clearly shows you in bright yellow that the download connection has been established.. many times i' very had to reinstall the kies drivers, I don't know why.. but try this , and like I say once you see yellow in Odin in phone download mode, you know you're set. Once again, like this kies/gtg/try booting/if no boot/pull battery try boot again/ if still no boot Odin lb3 stock and then flash a recovery kernel to regain cwm..

[Q] Loop and rainbow screen after flashing

Ok i finally found out how to root and flash my SGS4G and after finishing everything the phone got into a rolling restart loop with a rainbow screen. Trying to use odin to return to stock but it doesn't stay on for more than 10secs so Odin cannot really do anything....
Help?
Can you get into download mode?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
The rainbow screen means you flashed a gb ROM on froyo boot loaders. What ROM did you flash? Is Odin recognizing your phone?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Audiophile-ftw-newbuild. Odin sees my phone but the phone is restarting before i am able to do anything. I cannot get on download mode because i cannot see anything on my rainbow screen. Only a t-mobile logo at the beginning saying Galaxy S 4g
Here is the link for the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214260
This is what i got for trying to work on it at 4am. I did not install the bootloaders for GB as you said. Anything that I can do to fix it?
Did you even try to get into download mode?
pull battery out then turn it on while pressing both volume buttons, and have USB connected. I don't remember exactly how to get into download mode, but try everything, then you Odin to a froyo ROM and start over.
Sent from my SGS4G using xda forum app
yes i did. I managed to make stop restarting, odin sees the phone on com3 and i am trying to flash it back to stock but Odin stacked on setupconnection for a while now (10mins)
Just to clarify a few things since i am new to this. (i flashed my vibrant with no issues many times before)
Where do i add the *.tar file in Odin? PDA-Phone-CSC?
I had that issue.. powered the phone and the computer off and on... plugged the phone in after Odin was up and went into download mode then it worked.

Im on DL mode now finally but odin does not see my phone and the drivers failed to install on my pc. restarting pc now to retry
now im on the DL screen but Odin does not pick up my phone. Anyone has a link for the drivers of SGS4G to install them manually?
ok i manage to connect everything together and i am now in the recovery mode. whats next? please help!!!!
This is what you need to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
Once you get to step 11 you can flash Audiophile again (or any other GB ROM you wish). This will install the bootloaders you need and fix the "rainbow screen".
i managed to fix it and i got black_ice. I am on the "wait 10mins" part and then have to restart one more time. We will see what happens. If it doesn't work i will follow your steps

Glad you got it working. Just make note of which roms are froyo 2.2 and which are gb 2.3. They require different boot loaders and the only way to change boot loaders is with Odin. I hate Odin because of the frustration when it freezes, stalls, or doesn't recognize the device. To each h his own though

ok i flashed black ice when it boots though there is an android logo on top of the t-mobile logo and the phone doesn't seemed to change anything.
I am currently running on KD1 baseband and v3.0 bali_sgs4g kernel what did i do wrong?
Did you read the black ice thread? The whole thing? That would be a good place to start. I don't recommend black ice for your first flash though, allot of people never got it to work or went through hell to make it work.

The andoid logo over the T-Mobile logo is normal from what I understand. I had that issue as well when I was on froyo.
If you are still experiencing other issues, I would suggest restoring a nandroid backup (if you have one) and starting over fresh: install a fresh kernel and ROM. If you want to stick with froyo, I suggest drhonk's Bali v3.3 kernel, and any of the froyo ROMs will be fine.
If you want to try GB, follow the link that I posted earlier to find FB's GB Starter Pack.
well i just reflashed again, im waiting for the phone to boot up..my issue was that the phone looked stock and couldn't find any themes or something to change it. i read the thread, i guess my question is the theme that i saw on the screen shots of black ice, does it come with it or not because im getting really confused with this thing lol
Axura was much easier on my vibrant....
So the only issue you have now is that the phone looks stock?
i followed your guide and i was able to flash it everything looks ok. thanks all for the help and special thanks to ultimakillz

[Q] Infuse Bricked (I think)

I was running stock 2.3.6 and attempted to root it using Odin. During the process, it was stuck on cache.rfs for a long time...I took the battery out and turned on the infuse again. This time it said I needed to do recovery mode. Kies woulnd't recognize the device. So I went back into download mode and tried GTG Ultimate Unbrick. This isn't working because it keeps getting stuck at factoryfs.rfs. It's currently there now, and its been here for at least 15min. I've tried closing Odin, retrying, removing battery and SD and trying but nothing is working! I'm not sure what to do. :/

If you can still get into download mode, you aren't hard bricked. That's a good thing
As for recovering your device. This has happened to me multiple times. There are about a million different things I've tried. 1. Simply use a different USB port, 2. Try a different cable it it's available, 3. Use a different version of ODIN, 4. Try using the heimdal method, 5. Completely uninstall the drivers for the phone and then reinstall them.
Try all of these, not necessarily in that order. I tried last time and it turned out all I needed to do was switch computers for god knows what reason. Good luck!
I'm trying Heimdall right now. Will let you know how it goes..
So as I click flash, it starts...but then it says drivers not found so I click their "Reinstall Drivers" and then after 5min, the installation fails.
I got past the driver error. Now what it tell me is:
Uploading KERNAL
0%
>Then it says
KERNAL upload failed
Ending session...
I have managed to successfully run the Heimdall. But now it turns on and goes into recovery everytime. I wiped data and cache. SOMEONE HELP PLEASE?

How I fixed my totally bricked Infuse

Here's the scenario.
I flashed AOKPb40 when I wasn't home. My phone was stuck on the Samsung boot screen. I tried 3 finger recov... no good. Still stuck on boot screen. Removed battery, waited a few minutes, 3 finger... still stuck on boot screen. I figured I'd wait till I get home and Odin back to stock. By time I got home my battery was dead. It wouldn't charge. It was on the charger for 2 hours and no go. I plugged the USB into PC and entered download mode. I figured what the hell... lets give it a shot. Launched Odin, started JScotts UCLB-Root-Modded Odin Package. Everything was running then... boom. Phone shut down right in the middle of FACTORYRFS. Pulled battery and tried the whole thing again... guess what... same thing. So I put my phone back on the charger and my screen showed a phone icon with a triangle with an exlcamation point and a PC icon. I thought "Oh Crap".
So here is how I fixed it.
I downloaded qkster's Heimdall One-Click package. I read up on how to use Heimdall and I was taken to a download page to download Heimdall suite. After many failed attempts to load the Heimdall package in Heimdall Front End, I kept getting a file size error. I googled the error and found qkster's re: to a guy with the same problem. Turns out the One-Click package is self executable, no need for the Heimdall front end suite. So I launched qkster's Heimdall package and it actually completed the flash! However, when the phone rebooted I was shown a partial CWM recov menu. I hit reboot and it kept taking me to the same CWM menu.
Now that I can get past the screen with the phone-caution-pc thing I tried using Odin with JScott's UCLB package. Odin finally worked all the way through, but with the same result as Heimdall, CWM Recov loop. I figured I was missing boot loaders. Flashed through Odin and still no good.
I now went all the way back to stock using GTG's Ultimate Unbrick. Voila! My phone is back! Holy toledo, 4 hours of trouble shooting and I finally have a working phone again.
Summary, Odin doesn't complete and you're stuck, here's what to do.
Use qksters Heimdall
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079
If stuck in Recov loop. Use GTG's Ultimate Unbrick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
I hope my long painful recovery story will help someone out.
Sounds like you just needed an unbrick solution with a pit file for repartition. You could have used just the UCLB3 Unbrick with the pit file, and you would have been set.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705260
Still, glad you worked it out. This is why it's a good thing that we have many options that work via Heimdall and Odin. When one isn't doing it on your phone, just try another. We just have to be careful not to call our way of fixing it the only right way or the best way. Several ways exist, so we truly have an unbrickable device. Well, unbrickable as long as you don't bork a bootloader flash.
Edit: By the way, that phone-caution-pc thing is still download mode.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Well said jscott, and glad you got it working. I would also add, that it would appear from the initial symptoms, that maybe you just lost recovery. Several roms, including uniporn have packages that can fix that. In the uniporn thread it is in post 3.
Also, I think there is a good lesson here too for others and that would be that it would be extremely wise to know your way around Odin and heimdall before embarking on that very first flash.
Again, this is just for future reference should someone read this later on. Glad to hear you are back up and running.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Good work.
As Yuma have stated, when you lost recovery, flashing this kernel would have brought you back to working cwm to flash the rom also:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25526654&postcount=3
And when you have completed the uclb3, you could have finished it with the boot loader flash and then do a factory reset. After that, flash which every insecure kernel to get back recovery to flash what ever you wanted.
As long as you can get back into download mode, you can use any of the restore process.
Thanks all for the follow up. The biggest problem was the dead battery. After I finally got this sicker up and running with the phone plugged in my battery was at 8%. The damn thing kept crashing while in download mode. But yes, this is not the only way. I had to use qksters heimdall to at least get the phone to boot. Once I got to boot into the recovery boot loop issue I used gtg unbrick.
If it wasn't for all the posts and threads from you guys I would've been screwed. Oh, and to top it all off, xda was down when I first started down the road. Long freaking day!

If you were using something like my earlier rooted UCLB3 Odin options, those don't have a pit. Those aren't intended as much as an unbrick/restore option as they are for a quick way to get to rooted UCLB3. Hanging on factoryfs.rfs suggests you needed repartitioning, and the UCLB3 Unbrick provides this, since it has a pit file. The other Odin package wasn't working because you needed a pit file to restore in your situation. That's why the GTG Unbrick ended up fully restoring your phone; it has a pit. It or the UCLB3 Unbrick should have worked to "unbrick" your phone right after the first failed Odin attempt. Also, as noted by Yuma and qkster, an option available before that first Odin flash was to restore just the kernel/recovery. That option became unavailable after the first failed Odin flash. Still, many options are available, and we're glad you found a combination that worked.

I have done everythig possible that can be done taking the battery out, charging it from wall charger and charging it from usb port. letting it wait for 2 days before messing with it. One day it went one step further to the white screen where the at&t logo forms and then it reboots again. I have not done a master reset or whatever its called because I want my pics of videos and contacts. The phone has been in the otter box from day one so it looks brand new and its over a year old. I could care less about the phone once I get my pics and videos off of it I will not mess with it again. Is it possible to save pics videos and contacts? I am not sure what you mean when you ask which ROM.

Okay, since you don't want to do your own thread. Read the information in the following link and follow it to the letter. This should put you back to stock and if everything works right, you will be able to get your info off the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
If you don't know how to put the phone in download mode, take your battery out, hold down the volume +/- buttons but no power button, put the batter back in and then plug the USB (connected to a computer that has the drivers from the link installed) into the phone. Do not disconnect the phone otherwise, you may end up with a brick.

and the only reason I didnt think of the cord is because its the one if used since i got the phone to transfer music and pictures.
As you have probably seen in the other threads, sometimes it just takes a lot of work trying different things (ports, cords, pc's) to get to Heimdall to work.
Regarding "error 43", googling leads to many pages like this:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/errorc/a/code-43-error.htm
suggests perhaps a driver problem. Maybe try removing and reinstalling drivers.
An alternative- can you boot into CWM? If so, you can get UCLB3 here:

I'm not sure if there is a CWM flashable stock for Froyo...
But at very least, you could try using a Custom Rom for Froyo.
Here's what's available:

I didn't see any CWM-flashable stock Froyo ROMs in that list. Only the Heimdal and Odin varieties.
By the way, I'm not very experienced in flashing. You might want to double check with someone else before you follow my advice in this area.
i really really need help now.
Phone is stuck at a screen that says firmware upgrade enountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again.
But it wont connect to kies please help.
What are you using, Odin or Heimdall? If you are using Heimdall you probably shouldn't be using Kies drivers. Heimdall uses their own drivers and replace the Kies Samsung drivers.
Did you follow instructions in qster's page?

a fix hopefully
Install Kies. Then at the top of Kies is a radio button. Push it and install drivers. Restart your computer with the phone NOT plugged in. When pc is back on. It should recognize phone. It may ask to restart again. Do it. I use Odin to reflash GTG unbrick, then the stock with root, and cwm included. Then flash a ics rom (normally twice). You will get a bad flash the first time in red cwm. Reflash it in blue. Then, go to a jb build. Yeah, it takes a while. Hope this helps you.

Captivate totally unresponsive

Hi Guys,
I was on ICS and was going to wipe out everything and reinstall everything fresh. I got stuck on the Icy glitch Kernel and so I decided to use ODIN and go back to stock. I think the extraction of Odin was not done properly and as a result when I flashed it did all the steps but when it got to the reset step the phone did not reboot. And now it is totally unresponsive,
Is there anything I can do to revive it?
Thank you

Well if your phone isn't even booting up then u might have to resort to puting it in download either using a JIG OR using a three button method that can be found somewhere in the forums or through google.
