Ok i finally found out how to root and flash my SGS4G and after finishing everything the phone got into a rolling restart loop with a rainbow screen. Trying to use odin to return to stock but it doesn't stay on for more than 10secs so Odin cannot really do anything....
Help?
Can you get into download mode?

The rainbow screen means you flashed a gb ROM on froyo boot loaders. What ROM did you flash? Is Odin recognizing your phone?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Audiophile-ftw-newbuild. Odin sees my phone but the phone is restarting before i am able to do anything. I cannot get on download mode because i cannot see anything on my rainbow screen. Only a t-mobile logo at the beginning saying Galaxy S 4g
Here is the link for the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214260
This is what i got for trying to work on it at 4am. I did not install the bootloaders for GB as you said. Anything that I can do to fix it?
Did you even try to get into download mode?
pull battery out then turn it on while pressing both volume buttons, and have USB connected. I don't remember exactly how to get into download mode, but try everything, then you Odin to a froyo ROM and start over.
Sent from my SGS4G using xda forum app
yes i did. I managed to make stop restarting, odin sees the phone on com3 and i am trying to flash it back to stock but Odin stacked on setupconnection for a while now (10mins)
Just to clarify a few things since i am new to this. (i flashed my vibrant with no issues many times before)
Where do i add the *.tar file in Odin? PDA-Phone-CSC?
I had that issue.. powered the phone and the computer off and on... plugged the phone in after Odin was up and went into download mode then it worked.

Im on DL mode now finally but odin does not see my phone and the drivers failed to install on my pc. restarting pc now to retry
now im on the DL screen but Odin does not pick up my phone. Anyone has a link for the drivers of SGS4G to install them manually?
ok i manage to connect everything together and i am now in the recovery mode. whats next? please help!!!!
This is what you need to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
Once you get to step 11 you can flash Audiophile again (or any other GB ROM you wish). This will install the bootloaders you need and fix the "rainbow screen".
i managed to fix it and i got black_ice. I am on the "wait 10mins" part and then have to restart one more time. We will see what happens. If it doesn't work i will follow your steps

Glad you got it working. Just make note of which roms are froyo 2.2 and which are gb 2.3. They require different boot loaders and the only way to change boot loaders is with Odin. I hate Odin because of the frustration when it freezes, stalls, or doesn't recognize the device. To each h his own though

ok i flashed black ice when it boots though there is an android logo on top of the t-mobile logo and the phone doesn't seemed to change anything.
I am currently running on KD1 baseband and v3.0 bali_sgs4g kernel what did i do wrong?
Did you read the black ice thread? The whole thing? That would be a good place to start. I don't recommend black ice for your first flash though, allot of people never got it to work or went through hell to make it work.

The andoid logo over the T-Mobile logo is normal from what I understand. I had that issue as well when I was on froyo.
If you are still experiencing other issues, I would suggest restoring a nandroid backup (if you have one) and starting over fresh: install a fresh kernel and ROM. If you want to stick with froyo, I suggest drhonk's Bali v3.3 kernel, and any of the froyo ROMs will be fine.
If you want to try GB, follow the link that I posted earlier to find FB's GB Starter Pack.
well i just reflashed again, im waiting for the phone to boot up..my issue was that the phone looked stock and couldn't find any themes or something to change it. i read the thread, i guess my question is the theme that i saw on the screen shots of black ice, does it come with it or not because im getting really confused with this thing lol
Axura was much easier on my vibrant....
So the only issue you have now is that the phone looks stock?
i followed your guide and i was able to flash it everything looks ok. thanks all for the help and special thanks to ultimakillz

I have been running on the gb 2.3.3 rom (rooted) that I have flashed using odin back in summer and now decided to do some more upgrading . So I found a new rom that was very intriguing to me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145 After doing some research I realized I needed to do a different type of flashing (cwm?), and not through odin. So I downloaded root explorer into my phone and followed the procedures in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122508 but every time I try to put my phone in the recovery mode (holding volume up + down + power) it wouldn't go into the blue screen. Instead, it would just restart, and restart, etc.. Any suggestions? Do I need to do something with the kernels?
p.s.hahah after messing around and looking through forums all day, I got a little impatient and flashed gb 2.3.6 using odin in the mean time

Try this.
Basically do what youre doing but instead of keeping on holding to it, hold on to Volup+voldown+power for 2 reboots, then on the 3rd reboot, the gs4g screen in the beginning lights up a slight lighter than usual. Let go of the power button, See if this works.

Download the Odin KJ1 version.
Just making a quick check. You ARE using a galaxy s 4g right? if so, then from that link, download the kg4.tar from the odin section. Then flash via odin. .

Hi I have the same problem but I still cant get into recovery, I go straight into Download mode. Please Help
It might be because your phone is connected to the computer? If so, try disconnecting it
No its not that, I can access it without it being connected to a computer.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413
This thread says the original GB rom changed the key mapping. Any ideas on where I can find a fix. I think thats what happened to me.
hmm I'm still relativley new to this kind of stuff as well, so the only route I know that you can do that will most likley fix the problem is to odin to a newer rom, perhaps the one I have linked above, then odin the kernal as well to get it rooted and follow the guide on how to do it if you're confused. Then turn off your phone, hold (volume up + volume down + power), screen should boot up then dissapear, boot up again, then disappear, and on the third boot up, just release the power button but continue holding on to the volume up + volume down buttons and just wait. The cwm screen should come up from what I experienced on two different sgs4g's. Hope that helps somewhat lol. I'm sure there might be a easier way to just fix the key mapping but I'm not to sure on how to do it. gl
I just verified that method works for me as well. I'm lazy, though, and downloaded Quick Boot from the app store as it lets you boot into recovery or download mode. Less fuss.
Ok, So I flashed dmans UCKK3 Rom and everything was great. I decided to flash the Stock Kernel back, extracted and flashed the zImage for stock Rom and borked my phone. It gets stuck at the Samsung Logo and goes no where.
So, I thought, easy fix. Pulled up my Heimdall One-Click and booted into Download Mode and flashed. Still, same problem, phone boots up to Samsung Logo and goes no further.
This pissed me off a little bit so I decided, if I can get back into Recovery, I would be golden. So I used Heimdall One-Click Defused to get CWM back. Well, that works, I have Red CWM.
Reflashed the UCKK3 Rom, after I wiped Data/Cache/Dalvik of course. Rebooted, and low and behold, stuck at Samsung Logo once more.
So now I am frustrated and pissed as this is my only phone currently, so I broke out the GTG Ultimate Unbrick, guess what now, I can't get Odin to recognize my device. Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Drivers multiple times, once from a direct download someone has posted in GTG's thread and Once from Kies, and Odin still will not detect my device, IE The Com##.
So, after a cup of coffee, I remembered some people were having issues due to there USB Cable, so I traded it out with several different ones I have from prior phones, didn't change.
So now I am stuck.
I can get into Red CWM. I can mount as USB Storage to drop any RoM I want to on my SD card. I can even enter Download Mode, however I can't get past the stupid Samsung Logo.
Any help is appreciated as I am currently stumped.
Thanks

I stated I could even get into Download Mode so a Jig is not going to do me any good.
on a side note, I finaly got it back up and running but I had to use Odin V 1.81 for it to recognize my device. Odin 1.7 wouldn't detect the Com Port for my phone. I am going to assume something happened to my Partitions. I ended up flashing the Kernel located in the Victory Rom forum included with Odin v 1.81. After about a 10 minute wait for it to Convert Partitions it finaly booted up. Thank god.
So I am not running UCKK3 Rom with that Kernel and all seems to be well now. I literally stayed up untill 5 AM fixing my damn phone, and the sad part is, I am still not sure wtf I did to begin with lol.

I read somewhere that the stock kernel won't work if your still on ext4(or whichever) that it has to be switched back to rfs
Big dog Infuse I997 GB KJ4
@ xIC-MACIx
Thanks lol..
@ bignate78
And that was my problem in the end. The Rooted / Deodexed / Zipaligned Rom for UCKK3 was originaly on Entropy's Kernel. It uses EXT4 partitioning. When I flashed the original Kernel it uses RFS and well thats were things went wrong.
But what the most unusual thing was, Odin V1.7 would not recognize the COM## port for my phone so I could not use Odin originaly. I was searching and getting pissed when I found the .zip in Victory Rom that contained an upgraded Odin and low and behold it work.
My infuse was running aokpcb rom. i made a backup of my previous rom, AEON v1.3.1. i restored using nandroid back to AEON but when i reboot its stuck at the samsung screen. I tried GTGs Odin back to stock multiple times using different ports but it always gets stuck at factoryfs. i even rebooted the computer and tried it again but still no good. I've used Odin back to stock a couple times before so im used to the program. now ive ran out of ideas and i would greatly appreciate the help. THANKS

+1 odin sux. it's funny how some independant guys can reverse engineer what it's doing and write something better.
Happens to my Infuse all the time now, even using Heimdall. I just pull the battery, get back into the alternate download screen, reload the drivers (if necessary) on the pc and re-run Heimdall. It always seems to get stuck twice, but works the third time. The last time I took it to stock & did a "factory data reset", just to see if that would clear up whatever the issue was. Unfortunately (?), I haven't tried going back to stock since.

Heimdall is great when properly set up and WHEN IT WORKS. What I do, and this'll bring it back from pretty much anything, is use gtg unbrick, and if it doesn't boot from that flash, (and mine doesn't because its a rogers ) , i then flash the Odin stock lb3 pack, and boom back to normal no matter what I flashed. I imagine if you're running an at&t model , you shouldn't have to do the second step. Be sure to remove the battery and reinsert at least once on any from flash to be sure its not booting correctly before going to another step. Also be sure drivers are correctly installed through kies or kies mini. I find this is easiest with Odin because it clearly shows you in bright yellow that the download connection has been established.. many times i' very had to reinstall the kies drivers, I don't know why.. but try this , and like I say once you see yellow in Odin in phone download mode, you know you're set. Once again, like this kies/gtg/try booting/if no boot/pull battery try boot again/ if still no boot Odin lb3 stock and then flash a recovery kernel to regain cwm..

Hi, I'm new to posting on these forums but I have been on here for a while and appreciate the work of the devs on the roms available. I have a problem, and I haven't been able to find any threads of anyone having this problem before.
My Infuse was stock froyo and working fine. I then updated it to stock 2.3.6 with ODIN with option c from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
After that, I immediately updated it to the unofficial cm9 and the problems started. The phone would work fine, but in about 10 minutes of use, it would restart by itself and go into a boot loop. Sometimes the samsung logo would loop only twice and restart. Other times it can loop up to 50 times before restarting.
I noticed I had a rainbow CWM screen so I updated to the GB bootloader through ODIN. Didn't work. I then went back to stock 2.3.6 with odin. Didn't work. I then went back to stock 2.2 froyo through ODIN and re-partioned the PIT file. Still boot loops. I'm stumped.
Anyone have any idea what's causing this? I appreciate it

My only suggestion would be to try "one click unbrick" and see if that does the job

All of the "one click unbricks" say that it isn't necessary if the phone is able to enter download mode. Is it still ok to try?
tried one click unbrick and it wouldn't allow me to use it. I then tried going to stock 2.3.6 using heimdall and still have the same problem.
I don't think its a problem with the rom, it has to be something else. But its not a hardware problem since it started once I used ODIN for the first time.
That's strange.. one click unbrick should have been able to run and reboot your phone. It probably would not solve your problem but should have at least ran successfully.

one click unbrick just said something like, "if the phone is plugged in and everything is fine then visit resolution center".
Hello all! Im new here, but have been using alot of the tutorials and mods. I recently decided to move from FROYO to ICS, using several tutorials, but didnt even make it to gingerbread I was using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705260 and at first when I ran odin, all was well, except it wouldnt boot past the ATT splash screen, and it also had the 'rainbow' screen before the samsung loading screen, so i followed this :
2.) I have rainbow distortion in recovery or in the boot animation. How can I get Gingerbread bootloaders to fix this?:
If you have rainbow distortion, you still have Froyo bootloaders. You can download THIS .rar file, extract using 7zip, and flash the tar.md5 package in Odin (use the pda slot). Flashing Gingerbread bootloaders will correct rainbow distortion in recovery and in the boot animation. Only flash these if you are having issues with rainbow distortion, and only if you have had success flashing other, less dangerous items in Odin.
After re flashing with odin, my phone will no longer turn on... at all. Ive tried getting it to go into download mode, tried using the three button recovery, and nothing. Is there anyone that could help with this!? If i cant figure it out, I might not be on the infuse forums much longer... lol
Rainbows only appear on ics or above, so if you saw rainbows, you must have flashed ics.
As the warning said, a failed bootloader flash would leave you with a brick. Did odin stop during the flash or did it say it completed succesfully?
You may try using a jig and see if that forces download mode, but i doubt you will get results from that.

The new bootloader I loaded was supposed to be a gingerbread bootloader, and it said that if I saw the rainbow screen it was becuase i had the froyo bootloader, as quoted above. Ive read in alot of different forums, and ive tried charging it, removing the battery for 10 minutes and trying to get it into d/l mode, but nothing works. I think i may just have to chalk this one up as a very mislead failure. When I used odin, it said it was completed successfully as well... Im pretty sure that the 'gingerbread bootloader' is just a bad file.
As Andros11 said, you might try using a jig, for me it would be worth the $2. price to give it a try. If it does not work there are unbrick services available for about $50.00- not too bad, considering.
Go back to that page DL the one unbrick root 1.1 flash in Odin,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
Toto that link DL the cwm with root extras then as soon as you are done flashing the first one reboot for good measure, shut it off go into download mode flash that giving you a cwm recovery, somewhere in that post I seen gingerbread loader a link maybe getting you to them, I flashed to gingerbread bootloaders, forget where I got them off xda, then flash a cm9 rom taking you to ics, somehow in that process my rainbow screen went away and I have not had that problem every since.
I did have a small problem with Odin hanging on do not turn off and it just sits there. I got tired of waiting over five minutes nothing happening, I unplugged it, pulled battery, then when I went to download mode I had that rainbow screen, but not to worry it is still in download mode, with my infuse, I has to toggle the volume button up, after it sets to the first screen then you are in complete DL mode, check Odin to be sure you got that yellow check box to be sure it sees the phone then do the flash again, the BIG TRICK HERE IS, before you maybe find the rainbow screen in DL MODE, after you pull the USB cable pull the battery, replace the battery, then turn on the phone and let it hang up in what ever screen, then pull the battery again to turn it off, replace the battery then go into download mode, and the flash will take off and only be a few minutes. That worked for me more then once. Hope that helps,
