Hi! I am strongly considering the Skyrocket but I've always enjoyed the extra protection of Gorilla Glass screens. Any reason why they decided on glass screens for this model? And how is the screen holding up from day to day wear?
Thanks...
I'm confused by your post, are you asking why they decided on gorilla glass on this model? Cause you clearly said that you "enjoyed the extra protection of Gorilla Glass". If you want to know does it have gorilla glass, yes it does. And its holding up very well I use mine with no screen protector. Third phone i've had with Gorilla Glass and havent scratched one yet. Not to say that they cant be scratched, I just havent scratched one of mine.

Sorry for the confusion. I've read a few reviews that this phone does NOT have Gorilla Glass, so that is why I asked. So if you say it does, then I am sold on it.
This is where I saw one of the reviews that said no Gorilla Glass and it shows scratches (around the 1:35 mark):

From all the reviews I've read, PhoneArena is the ONLY publication that has said the SR doesn't have Gorilla Glass. It actually does. They probably just got a bad sample or something.
Thanks for all of the info...strongly considering this phone but have been tempted to try Windows Phone 7, in the form of HTC Titan too...
Some people seem to be confused about Gorilla glass too. From my understanding gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. So you still can end up scratching it.

This may help you find the answer you seek.
Gorilla Glass... scratches.
It's just difficult to break.
Just ordered two of 'em!
I think that video has been debunked. I have read somewhere that they actually scratched the screen themselves before putting it on the ground. Some of the comments for the video you linked specifically points out things like "something in his left hand" and "swiping his hand across the screen before sliding it on the ground".
Now, I'm not saying gorilla glass is indestructible, I think most people are aware that gorilla glass CAN be scratched under certain circumstances but I don't think it's as easy as they portray in that video.

probably something my 8yo daughter did.
it's small -- only a couple of mm, but it's there.
hell, i watched that youtube of the guy dragging a nail across his TF.
this wasn't supposed to happen, right?
anybody else got scratches?
can u post a pix of the scractch if possible?
Gorilla glass isn't supposed to be scratch-proof.
it decreases cracking from dropping not scratches sheesh what do you think it is made of diamond? get a zagg screen protector and your screen will never scratch again

It's not about strength - it is about being scratch resistant. That said, it's not scratch-proof - nothing is. Basically, if you've got a tiny scratch then it would be a large scratch if it weren't gorilla glass. You can still scratch it, but it's harder to do. Apparently sand is a big culprit.
gorilla glass is not scratch-proof, its only drop-proof (cracks)
Sand will scratch gorilla glass really easy.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
ive got a scratch on mine i think sand was the cause
Dumb question maybe but surely most people use screen protectors to prevent scratches even with gorilla glass?
Gorilla glass can be scratched but its pretty good though I would never leave it unprotected for the reason it is scratchable.

I also have a very small scratch in my glass
After some time you completly ignore it and dont regard it.
i'm sorry. i can't post a pic of my scratch as i've now put a protector on the screen, which renders it completely invisible. i know! horse after cart.
this is the 2nd protector i tried; the first, a matte one, i didn't like, as it dulled the display too much. the one i have now, which shows fingerprints somewhat (not as bad as without) and causes reflections, is pretty much indistinguishable from no protector at all. very happy.
i'd recommend everybody now to get a screen protector on their TF. don't rely on the gorilla glass.
I was just talking to a friend with his Nexus Galaxy the other day. He saw my phone, SET4G the SET4G, and said he wished he had Gorilla Glass, as he had gotten a scratch, and put a screen protector on his.
Mine didn't have any scratches......... at the time, and I said, watch, I'll get a scratch now.
I got a long scratch, very light, that I noticed the other day. Plus some tiny scratches.
I don't play in the Sandbox, so I have no idea how they got there.
May have been there before, but I didn't notice. But maybe not, as I notice everything
They are very unnoticeable, but I ordered a Steinheil Crystal screen protector to slap on it.
2 to a pack for $13.99 cause I usually screw up the first install
I've read that Corning is coming out with another type of glass to supercede Gorilla Glass. I believe it's called Lotus Glass it may be available already, and may be installed on some upcoming smartphones, so I've read) and Japan already has a scratch resistant glass, I believe called Ashai? Glass.
I think Gorilla Glass has a Hardness of 7 on the Mohs Hardness scale.
The problem is that Quartz also has a Hardness of 7,which can be found in sand, as well as dust particles.
Thru out the years, I have had phone with gorilla glass and have had no screen protectors ever and have had no scratches ever! Now, I am carful as hell with my phones but my z2 I did the same as I usually do and I did get scratches. Front and back. My only guess is, this was because of the dragontail glass which is not as strong as gorilla glass when it comes to scratches. I do hope that sony went with gorilla glass this time. Anyone know for sure?
PS - I want to say that the Z3 is dragontail glass again as GSM arena spec site says "shatterproof glass" and it says gorilla glass 3 for other phones like the S5 and Note 4. The specs listed there for the Z3 for the screen protection say the same as the Z2. That sucks... ohwell, guess I need a crappy screen protector on this shinny NEW phone... sigh....

Get a Nilkin tempered glass screen protector if you really feel worried. I've ordered one. They feel as good, if not actually better than the glass on the phones anyway, and a drop means the screen protector breaks, not the screen.
Really recommend one.
Please post questions in the Q&A section

I was looking to buy either this phone or the OnePlus 3. The deal breaker for me is that it is unknown whether the Honor 8 has some form of glass protection, apart from the advertised 15 layers of glass. Can someone clarify this? Thanks!
From what I could gather online, it has Gorilla Glass 3. Not 100% though

Same problem I'm having. Some sources say nothing, other say Gorilla Glass 4 and some Gorilla glass 3. And a direct question to Honor they just quote the specs
Honor 8 has Gorilla glass 3 AND a 3 month replacement warranty, with free shipping and no deductible to replace the phone if you bread either the front or back glass
Sent from my FRD-L04 using Tapatalk
Gorilla glass with 2.5D design
Honor 8 comes with its front and back metal and glass design protected by a coating of Corning's scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 3 so no worry about scratches but the glass back can easily attracts smudges,it is a fingerprint magnet but a skin or case can solve the issue so its not at all a problem:good::good:
Maybe they didn't updated this, or we are pretty much wrong. I really hope the former is correct.

It is said that NEG glass is as good as Gorilla glass and dragontrail glass if not better. There is not much technical detail available about the new Scratch resistant glass from NEG used in mobile phones, but there are good and positive reviews about this new glass. So if your new smartphone does not have Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail Glass protection but has NEG Glass protection then you don’t have to worry about it as your smartphone screen will be as safe as it would have been with the other two.

Did you register for free replacement if glass broken for 3 months? I quoted someone else, but it appears that they were wrong. Any glass will break. I broke the screen on a s7 edge. And it was gorilla Glass 4. From a 2 foot drop.

NEG or Nippon Electric Glass for mobile devices is a very hard, high tensile strength and scratch resistant glass that is used as a protection glass in smartphones, tablets and may be other mobile devices. Just like Gorilla Glass and Dragontrail Glass, NEG glass is also very hard and flexible which prevents scratches and damage due to minor drops and rough handling.
The special name or the brand name of NEG’s Scratch Resistant Glass for Smartphone, Tablets and other Mobile devices is Dinorex. NEG chose the name Dinorex, a portmanteau meaning kinsg of dinosaurs, based on the image of the Tyrannosauraus Rex, known to be the strongest of Dinosaurs. The name indicates the strength and toughness of the glass against cracks and scratches.
dinorex-glass-for-mobiles
NEG’s Dinorex is made hard and strong using chemical strengthening. This process for strengthening is known as Ion exchange mechanism where glass containing sodium ions (Na+) is soaked in a potassium nitrate solution containing potassium ions (K+), the Na+ ions on the glass surface change places with the K+ ions in the solution. The resulting K+ ions have a larger diameter than the Na+ ions and exert compressive stress on the glass surface. The glass thus produced can also withstand a hammer blow without breaking.

Well said brother..!!
Does it have gorilla glass protection. There is hardly any mention of it anywhere in the net or the unboxing videos.
All I've read is it uses some type of aluminosilicate glass.
I've heard whisperings of Gorilla Glass 3 but nothing concrete.
All of the specs I've read indicate that it has Gorilla Glass , either version 3 or 5. All Gorilla Glass is anti microbial. https://www.getdroidtips.com/huawei-honor-v10-problems-fixes/ Hihonor should clarify for all of us interested in this phone.
