Decryption? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi. Sorry if this has been answered 1,000 times, but if I'm on Android 10 and want to update to 11 and keep TWRP working, does simply removing the lockscreen in settings decrypt the phone and allow me to update without losing the ability to keep TWRP? In advance, thank you for your patience and support.

[Q] XNPH05Q - Disable system update alltogether?

Hi all,
I tried finding for a way to disable system updates (OTA's) completely. The search function revealed some methods, but all of them seem to be device specific - anyone got an idea how to kill updates on the OPO? Reason being is that I am very very happy with my current setup, and I don't want to change it under any circumstances (and if I do at some point, it should be my decission). So I keep canceling update notifications, but the phone is still downloading them - at 90MB each. And keeps doing so whenever I cancel, so I'm wasting 500-600 MB per month out of my 3GB data package.
Phone is fully rooted, running stock CM11-XNPH05Q with TWRP 2.8.5.1 bacon.
Any help would be highly appreciated!
Goto System/apps Find any app related to OTA updates Just Delete it and reboot.
Use Root explorer.

Oh no, don't delete it, that's a terrible idea. First, it won't work, you can't just delete system apps through that menu. Secondly, you have no idea if deleting a system app is going to send the phone into an unrecoverable boot loop. The best idea is to freeze the update app with Titanium Backup, root required of course.

Isn't CM11-XNPH05Q the latest OTA? So what updates would you be nagged about then? I'm on 44S and I've freezed the system update apk to stop being nagged about installing CM11-XNPH05Q.

I have been nagged with all updates since I got the OPO about 9 months ago, I configured my phone the way I wanted it back then, didn't miss any particular features and never encountered any specific bugs that annoyed me. Just last weekend I updated to 05Q to get rid of notifications for now, and the new updated that pushed some unwanted software on me (swiftkey and something else that installed as system apps) fortified my decision to get rid of all future update and not change the running system again. Oh and it sucks to re-root every time, survival mode of SuperSU Pro doesn't seem to work.
Do you realise that there's a reason for updates? They bring fixes for bugs, added fluidity and/or stability, added features, plus a metric crap-ton of stuff under the hood. Plus, it literally takes me 30 seconds to flash SuperSU after an update.
Well as I said, I don't care about new features if I'm happy with the current ones, and if there are no obvious bugs, I don't care.
And I really, really hate it when dev's are pushing unwanted crap [aka 'system apps'] on me.
Fair enough, if you're happy with the phone the way it is, leave it the way it is.

Downgrade EU Version from Oxygen OS 10.0.3 to 10.0.2 or 10.0.1

Hi Guys,
yesterday i tried downgrading to OOS 10.0.2 on my EU OP 7 Pro.
I did not succeed. Installed Full Version 10.0.2 via TWRP an then got stuck in Boot Animation.
Also TWRP is not asking for the Lock-Pin and so no filesystem availiabel.
Had to change Boot Slots to get it going again.
I want to downgrade because there is a major bug with location sharing in Whatsapp currently.
It does not work, because there is no way to alow location sharing in the backgrund for whatsapp. Only while your using it.
Is there something i am missing out, if i want to downgrade? Do i need a full wipe first? hopefully not ....
Thanks in advance for your ideas!
regards
Michael

Flash android 9 with edl mode then upgrade to 10
Thanks, superac11. I do not know what an EDL mode is and am pretty sure, that i'll loose my data that way. Any other ideas?

If you somehow get twrp working via fastboot then that's s the only way you can copy. Flashing individual partition does not work for you so that's s the last way but you will loose data.

[Rooted OP6] I would like to do an android update and have some questions

Hi there, my OP6 is running:
Android 8.1.0
Oxygen 5.1.8
I haven't updated in a long time because I was afraid to lose root. Now I actually want to unroot my phone and figured I could also do the updates.
So main questions are:
How do I perform unroot? Should I just perform the android update that's waiting in the settings menu?
Can things go wrong? Can my phone get bricked?
Does my phone get wiped?
Incase my phone gets wiped, what's the best way to make backups of system settings?
You can download latest 10.3.1 zip and do a local update...in os updater options...
you can do it without wiping...BUT I STRONGLY RECCOMEND YOU TO FULL WIPE...CAUSE YOU'RE SKIPPING AT LEAST 3 ANDROID VERSIONS...AND YOU MAY FACE MANY ISSUES if you don't...
you can root your phone with twrp...very easy...nothing would brake...but if you dont want root anymore just do a local update...and its done...but your bootloader may still be unlocked...but without any root or twrp...
And for backup there's option in settings it is called BACKUP XD...if you have google account...you can just tap on backup and then on android setup your apps and settings will stay...
Hey thanks for the response!
Does Google backup also save settings?
The bootloader is actually the problem I just know remembered. How do I lock that again?
The main reason I want an unrooted locked phone again is because banking apps make a fuss about this and won't work.

No, you can't do that. You cannot jump from 8.1 to 10. System update will give you an error. You can do it this way 5.1.5 (8.1) > 9.0.9 > 10.3.1

Yes it does...
And for banking apps...some may work with Magisk Hide option...you can hide your root for that specific app...and it should work fine....try it...
And if you want to lock the bootloader completely...you need to use MSMDownloadtool instead...

Encryption Android 12

Hey, I just updated my Pixel 3a sargo (JPN) to Android 12 but now, when I try to decrypt data on TWRP or Orange Fox, it says unable to decrypt data. The only solution that is working for me is to diable my code. Is there any other way to do this like diable force encryption? I already tried no verity opt encrypt but it's not working.
Any ideas?
TWRP currently has no support for Android 12 decryption. Your best bet is to either wait or flash DFE.

You only have to disable it if you're booting into recovery. You can put it back when you go back to Android. I can't imagine you have to be in recovery so frequently that this is a problem, at least until A12 decryption is supported in TWRP.
I hope this isn't a stupid question, but @Captain_Throwback's comment makes it look as if removing the PIN (and fingerprint data?) allows TWRP/OrangeFox to decrypt data and therefore enable backup and restore? Is this correct?
In the past encrypting took quite a while, and I doubt that PIN removal would actually decrypt the device (my OnePlus 8t is encrypted). It would be great if that were the case, but I'm doubtful.

Question Roll back to stable from QPR2 Beta 2 (T2B2.221216.006) - Pixel 7 Pro

Hi,
I want to roll back to stable.
There's a way to do it without unloock bootloader?
Thanks!!!
How did you get to QPR ?
If by enrolling to the beta program via the Google Page I would assume you can just unenroll and the system will flash back to latest stable. Please keep in mind that this will wipe the device data.
You can find info on how to do this within the FAQ on the page linked above
I may be wrong here but I believe the only way to roll back WITHOUT having to do a complete wipe is during a stable release which only takes place every three months! YMMV
