OK, this is really bugging me.
(and yes, I know that there are similar topics elsewhere but none of them actually seem to help me resolve the problem)
Until recently, my weather application would automatically and correctly identify and show my nearest TOWN as the "current location". This also appeared on the homescreen.
Now, for some reason, it's persistently only giving me the COUNTRY as current location, i.e. United Kingdom in my case.
The only thing I've changed recently was to remove one or two of the cities that I wasn't interested in from the list, and added a couple of other ones.
I've tried disabling and re-enabling "use wireless networks" for location setting, and also I've ensured that background data and auto sync are both ON.
Google maps evidently knows where I am from the cellphone data, so apparently the locations data is being received from the cell towers. Presently using THREE as service provider.
Is there a way to reset the weather settings? I'm reluctant to manually clear all the data from the associated apps in case it completely breaks it, and I don't really want to factory reset.
Ideas, anyone ? Thanks.

my suggestion may be clear the weather data from applications find the weather app and clear all data!!
restart the app..might pick up ur town!!
Thanks Muru11.
Curiously though, a colleague's HTC phone (a Wildfire S) has started doing exactly the same thing. It just displays "United Kingdom" for weather.
He's on a different network too.
I'm wondering if the weather forecast provider or HTC have upset the database for our area. I'm going to sit back and wait for a while before taking any drastic measures!

Update : A search through the HTC UK page on facebook suggests that this problem is affecting quite a few HTC UK users.
HTC proposed a solution to one person, which involved twiddling a lot of settings and apparently didn't work.
Hopefully the issue has been escalated.

Dear XDA-users,
I have an LG E900 in Sydney Australia on the Optus Network, which has been fully updated to Mango (and then the tethering update). (also chevron unlocked). Its set to Australian region and its an optus rom I think (or whatever comes with the phone...purchased in Australia).
I have a strange issue with my Bing Maps (standard one that comes with the OS).
When I try to "find directions" when I am using my 3G data it comes up with one of two error messages:
1) No Location Information: Bing Maps can't find your location at the moment. Try again later. (but it has found me correctly when I click the "me" button grrr)
2) Bing maps cannot reach the internet. Please check your 3g or wifi connection. (but I am completely connected to the internet).
So I have done some trouble shooting and both of these errors are illogical or incorrect.
first of all, when I click on the "me" circle it finds my location perfectly (scarily so).
Also I scroll around the map and zoom in and out and bing maps is clearly reaching the internet as it is constantly clearing up the resolution. Also I can go to use internet explorer just fine.
I have installed Nokia Drive and Bingle Maps and both of these applicaitons work perfectly for giving me directions on 3G.
Now the kicker, when I am at home and I connect to Wifi bing maps direction does work, but directions on Wifi is essentially useless for me, as its when I am out and about that I could really use it.
One last thing I tried finding directions on 3G data where I put both places as a fully written out address (as opposed to "My Location"), and it still doesn't work BUT if I go to search for an address (not directions), then it finds it straight away.
Is there something I can do to further trouble shoot or fix this error up in anyway? I really want this to work ...
I guess no one knows how to help me.... in that case does anyone know how I can "reset" or "re-install" the maps program or something to trigger it back to proper functionality.
also this is a bump to the first post haha.
Weirdly worked out what was wrong...but not why. In any case my issue is reolved now...
The APN from Optus was 'yesinternet' (as it should be). I had a friend who suggested changing it to just 'internet' like most carriers and see what happens. Did that, restarted the phone and instantly it was working. All other 3G dependant apps like email, explorer still works just fine.... so there you go...
Can anyone explain that?
Its fixed so mods you can put a resolved tag on this one if required.
Interesting. In the states, my 4g stopped working for like 1 whole day and i couldn't figure out why on att. what i did was manually put in the apn settings i found on the internet and it immediately started working. next day set back to auto everything was fine. Think my carrier was messing with settings but wouldn't admit to it.
Handy to keep those apn settings around in case of emergencies. maybe the original uses a proxy that filters out bing and the "internet" one does not?

This makes sense I guess, but pretty poor choice for Optus as they are the official seller of this model of phone in Australia.
My stock AT&T HTC One X has developed a very annoying issue after the OTA update to JB.
Location services in the HTC weather widget constantly displays either "Current location" or else displays a city name that is within 10-20 miles of my actual location. Refreshing the widget either does nothing, or occasionally says "Unable to connect to location service..." Google Maps and Navigation nail my location exactly without any issues whatsoever, so I highly doubt I suddenly developed a hardware issue. Before the JB update, everything was working normally. And again, I'm running 100% stock unrooted One X.
I've done extensive searching, and have tried every bit of advice I could find: uncheck automatic time zone, uncheck fast boot, delete and reinstall the weather widget, clear Google framework cache, etc, etc, etc. In an act of desperation, I downloaded the official RUU last night and reflashed. After setting up my phone, I have the exact same problem.
To add insult to injury, my friend was here with his identical stock AT&T One X with the OTA JB update. Sitting right next to me, his phone displays the correct city and weather data.
Any other ideas?
I am desensed but it doesn't look to me like you went to apps, all apps, weather widget, clear data.
If you tried that already or that doesn't do it, I'd have no other ideas.
I forgot to add.. Can you not specify your location etc. within the widget settings? You must be able to, I hate depending on Geolocation for weather settings. It wastes battery by checking GPS every so often to see if you're still in the same location. I guess if you travel a lot this is useful...
In the weather app, go to Settings, and see if the option "My current location, Update my location in real time" is checked or not. Try it either way (mine seems to work right, whether its checked or not).
Also, try simply restarting the phone. I've had the Weather location be incorrect after flashing a new ROM, and restarting the phone fixed it.
The Weather widget reads the location info from the cell tower, not GPS. So the reading of the location is not related to Google Maps or Navigation.

Yes, I have checked and unchecked everything, and have restarted dozens of times before and after reflashing, and after trying different ideas. As to exad's suggestion: yes, I can specify a location, but I travel more or less constantly within the state as well as frequent trips.
Problem solved!
Turns out it wasn't a software issue after all.
In a final act of desperation, I did a warranty exchange at the local AT&T warranty center. By the time I got almost home with my new (refurb) phone, I realized the location services still weren't working properly as I drove through 4 different cities in the metro area, and my location stayed the same.
So... I had a flash of inspiration, detoured to my neighborhood AT&T store, asked them to change out my SIM card, and that fixed the problem!

Thank you so much for posting your solution! This will be helpful to a few people I'm sure.
I'm looking into buying one of the LG OLED TVs but am not familiar with the WebOS app platform LG uses.
Is it possible to manually switch between country settings to install apps not available on a specific market? Can you somehow combine and run apps from different countries at the same time?
For example, is there a way to download Hulu from the US alongside the BBC iPlayer from the UK?
Yeah I want to know as well.
Since I can't watch the world up in 4k since I'm in US
if there is the will.
On an old LG TV I got something like that working.
I used a VPN to change my location. Then went to the TV settings ( somewhere like about tv or setup ) and have to change the location there. Then I could download and play stuffs out of region. When I changed back those apps didn't work or were gone. But switching back ( out of region ) the apps of that region showed back up.

Not possible on newer ones. I tried using VPN on router level so all my devices including the LG TV were showing the US as location (ip-score.com) including the LG TV Browser, however I couldn't install HULU, VUDU, etc. Restriction on my TV is actually the market it's made for, in this case UK and EU.
When I change location to SPAIN or some other country (no VPN needed) i get some extra apps, but originally I wanted HULU. Never succeeded.

Download AnyRemote app on your smart phone - Make sure your phone has IR Blaster function on it.
Select your LG TV remote and jump to EzAdjust - Service Menu will appear on your TV after you enter the Password: 0143
Then change the Area Code to 1793 for USA
Exit EzAdjust
Change Location to USA on the LG TV Settings Menu and the TV will Reboot
If you open the LG TV Content App, you will see the USA Apps for downloading Hulu & other required apps.
This will also have apps previously downloading running and working in addition to the new downloaded.
If you see that the Voice Accessibility has activated itself upon setting the Location as USA, please repeat the same steps above to re-set the Area Code back to the same old one, once you have finished downloading all the apps from the current (new) setting.
Please let me know if this helped
do you know what is the code for south korea for 2018 models?
Hi there, will you happen to have the region code setting for Thailand and Singapore too?

The above, with modifications, sort of works. It may not be a permanent solution. Here's what I did with my UK LG TV running Web OS 4.
1) The EZAdjust passcode is 0413, not 0143.
2) Take a note of your home region code. To change to the US, I changed the area code to 1843. You should see the region change to "US".
3) This is important - after changing the area code, open the LG app content store and accept the policy agreements.
4) Then change the Location from the LG Settings to the US. Deselect Automatic selection and manually select the US. This will bring up a dialogue box about needing to change the policy agreements and restart the TV by choosing "Yes". Go ahead and choose "Yes". Hopefully the location will switch to the US without restarting the TV. The reason this matters is that if the TV restarts, the Location reverts to "Others", which makes the content store a region-neutral store that does not have the US apps. Step 3, where you open the content store before changing the location, appears to prevent the TV from restarting. If the TV restarts anyway, open the content store again, then change the location to the US. Hopefully this won't result in a restart.
5) Now go back to the content store. When the store loads, you should have access to the US apps. You may get a "No content" message. Just hit ok and open the store again.
6) Do NOT change the region back to your home region using EZAdjust. Leave it on the US.
The problem with retaining permanent access to the US apps is that restarting the TV makes the location revert to "Others". Trying to access a US app after this happens will result in a message along the lines of "this app is no longer available from the service provider", and the TV will automatically delete the app. Perhaps ensuring that the Quick Startup option is on will help, as this puts the TV in standby mode when you turn it off. If the TV does restart and the location changes, you'll need to repeat steps 3) - 5). It may not be possible to prevent a restart at some point, unless you never turn the TV off.
Also bear in mind that even if you've installed a US app, you'll still need a DNS/VPN to actually use a streaming video service.
Anyone know if google assistant / alexa is an app that can be sideloaded into the TV.
I have the 43uk6200PCA which, in the US, has these apps out of the box?
Based on the online specs WebOS is 4.0 and has the same quad core processor.

Just signed up to say thanks for the detail walkthrough @Rooksx! It was spot on for me. I have a Japanese bought Oled C7p. Unfortunately, even in stand by mode, once I turn the tv off and on again, it deletes the US Vudu and Hulu apps which sucks. You have anymore luck?
Interestingly, all though the tv deletes many of the apps I download from other country stores, it does seem to keep a few on there. Even after turning the tv off and on at the wall, my Japanese lg still keeps BBC IPlayer, us sling tv and Australia’s Stan apps. Wonder why that is? Not complaining though.
Thanks again for the great walkthrough dude. Appreciated.

Glad to hear it's kinda worked. Have you definitely turned on Quick Startup? This seems to be the key for me as for a week now, my TV location has remained the US even after turning the TV off and on. Maybe check if there are any other options that could be more thoroughly shutting your TV's functions down.
No idea why some apps are retained. I was expecting BBC iPlayer to be automatically deleted when I changed location to the US but it still works fine. It does beg the question though of whether the app will update while my location is the US.
Just switched my OLED C7 TV to USA from UK and I cant get rid of the voice assistant (narrator) thing. I have to revert back to UK for it to go away but then the US apps stop working after a bit. Can anyone tell me if you have experienced it and if so if there is a way to tweak it? I really want to be able to use the hulu app.
Has anyone been able to successfully change to US, keep the apps running and not face the narrator issue?
I tried and i always get the narrator. I have a 75SK8000PTA WebOs 4.10.
Any reply highly appreciated.
I changed from tv menu content from lg store to UK, installed rakuten and YouTube Kids ( not aviable for my country), reverted back to others and app are still there after restart. Lg oled55b8.

Thanks, but I checked for that a million times, that option just wasn't there in C7 when set to USA. :/
I have a clear question if somebody could kindly answer;
Is it possible to change the Area Code to USA and edit the options so to set Broadcast country to another (e.g. Australia) and Services country to USA?
Could this be achieved via the continent index value?
Thank you,
John
Anyone?
This is an important step as it will allow to use your original country for broadcast services and hence you will get your DTV channels and then have the country of choice (USA) for the content services.
I tried with EZ_ADJ menu to change the continent item but couldn't edit the entry.
Could this be an In-Start menu item edit?
Thank you,
John
Corrupted OS due to Change in region
I happened to have switched my TV from UAE to UK then to USA. This seems to have made my location-> lg Services Country stuck on loading and thus nothing else seems to work on the TV is there a way to fix this. Does anyone have a firmware file they can share to reset this tv because even resetting tv to initial settings does not work. The IR blaster is unresponsive and thus cant set this manually. Any advice
Good afternoon,
Making change to the EEUU, could you install alexa in a Oled65C8-pla and switch back to europe (spain) being able to control the TV with alexa?
In Europe Oled65C8 does not have alexa but in the EEUU it does have...
Thanks
Hi all,
I've been trying to get family link working as my daughter uses this tablet. When trying to add her account the setup gets stuck in an endless loop never competing. Having read various threads from other devices, I think it's probably something to do with play services not having certain permissions. I would consider unlocking, installing twrp, magisk etc if required to fix, but I don't want to loose widevine.
The long and short is I can't use her account on the device at all as she's part of the family group - her account won't work at all without family link.
I wondered if anyone here had either tried this, or come across other odd behaviours relating to play services?
I'm running the Chinese ROM ziu 13.
Appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers Matt
Few things I have tried (and eventually got it to work) across 2x Lenovo P11 Plus (J616F)'s:
1st one was a factory reset and then instead of using my home WiFi, setup the device using a 4G hotspot from my phone. (Not a clue why, but my Home Wifi (Unifi Access Points) takes upwards of 2 minutes to get internet with the Lenovo's, even though all other devices are fine).
Second method:
factory reset and setup the device as "Offline" (i.e. dont input any WiFi details, button down bottom right saying "Setup as Offline")
Once gone through initial steps, connect to your WiFi, give it 10 minutes to update a few bits.
Open Play Store (DO NOT SIGN IN!), and press the three dots at the top right and goto updates
Let the device update all apps
When complete, try adding the childs Google Account (again, if this fails, try using a 4G hotspot from another device (disabling Wifi on that device first))
Hope that helps
Ok, that sounds pretty strange but I might give it a go. I just set her up a new Google account as nothing I could do could get the old one logged in. Thanks for your advice.
I suspect your unifi is running a shared ssid and your 5ghz is on an inaccessible band, are you always connecting at 2.4ghz? I had to change the 5g band on mine to even see it!

Only have my 5Ghz on normal bands (i.e. non DFS), even tried a separate 2.4Ghz Guest network, disabled WPA3, all to no avail. Not got a clue what caused it, my ISP doesn't block anything either (Zen UK)
Any other device was fine over WiFi (have setup much older Samsung tablets, newer kids phones) all with Family Link, it was just the Lenovo's that was stuck in a loop saying I needed to remove and re-add the account.
Just couldn't figure it out, and had already spent a few hours trying. Hoped the newest firmware would fix, but that didn't help either.
Hope it helps and good luck
Just playing around on the tablet and it appears that it struggles with IPv6 - could be that my hotspot is IPv4 only. Could be related to the loop it gets stuck in?
Not sure why it doesn't like IPv6 though as all other devices are fine with it...
I've just gone through full reset, then tried using 4g hotspot as you suggested. I have to use Lenovo app centre to get play store, then use play store with no login to update. That all works fine. Then add my daughters account. Then I get stuck in the same loop of not being able to register the device with family link.
In my case, I don't think this relates to internet access, I think there's something going wrong with the software / permissions on the device. It's genuinely very frustrating as I imagine it's probably not terribly difficult for the Lenovo Devs to fix.
