Hi Guys;
I was almost throwing away my Gear S3 Frontier and then remember this site which I used in the past for smart phones.
I need some assistance and direction as what I suppose to do.
Problem: Watch power off within a minute of taking off from charging cradle but run fine as far as on cradle (probably battery draining). This is happening since last software updated.
Watch Info:
Model: SM-760
Software: Tizen 4.0.0.7
Firmware: R760XXU2FTD4/ R760OXA2FTD4
I did factory reset, reboot etc.... nothing worked but it got worst. First battery drained within a day, then within hours, now I can't take out from charging
What are my possibilities to get my watch back running:
- Will replacing the battery good enough to solve the problem? or
- Should I root to previous software version. Will this work?
Can anyone direct me to any previous thread which have step by step process for solution?
Thanks a lot.

Mine was doing the exact same thing. Back in November, I contacted Samsung via Members app chat. I had to send it in for repair. The battery was failed. They replaced the battery, the watch back, and updated the software. It was out of warranty so it cost me $70. Five day turn around once they received it. Glad I got it fixed because I was so frustrated with the battery issues I stopped wearing it. Got it back and it looked and worked like new. (And still is!)

I've had pretty great battery life on my Gear S3 Frontier until this week. Before I could go 3-3.5 days on a charge. This week I'm lucky to get 1-1.5 days out of the watch. Nothing has changed. Any ideas?
When looking in the app at the About Gear battery info so you see any high battery usage other than the watch faces? I usually disregard the watch faces on my watch because mine usually runs between 60 and 80% but I still get right at 3 days. Do you use Samsung Pay, because you can disable NFC if you don't.

Have you tried re-starting it?
I do use SPay and have always used it since I got the watch.
The only thing that uses the most battery is watch faces. I'm using a dark watch face too.
I charged the watch before I left work at 4:00PM EST today and by now (10:33PM EST) it is at 48%.

Have you synced it to a new device recently? The reason I ask is because I just got the S8+ and had to factory reset my Gear S3 twice. After doing so my WiFi and mobile data was turned on for some odd reason.
Another solution may be to do a factory reset just to see if something may be causing your issue.

I factory reset it yesterday. I haven't connected it to a new phone.
I may try to reset it again later today.
I used to get 4 days out of my S3 Frontier but recently it suddenly dropped to less than 2 days. There was no change in my use of the watch or no new apps/watch faces etc and all I made sure 'recent apps' were closed frequently. Anyway, I did a reset and I'm back up to 4 days again.
I'm trying another reset. I turned reactivation lock off this time.
I got the watch off the charger at 8:30AM EST this morning and as of now (3:45PM EST) I was at 47%. The only app I installed was a dark watch face.

You could calibrate the battery with *#0228# on dialer but "quick button" it isn't working for me. Can you test this and tell me?

I am having the same problem. There was an software update for me to go to Tizen 2.3.2 and has been down right horrible. I would lose about 8% battery a day now its near 45% a day. I look into battery drainage and S Health is at the top. I got everything turned off to what I could but it still counts my steps, calories burned etc. No Auto HR and that.
I took it to best buy to see if the samsung guy could reflash an older version of tizen but he couldn't. we did a factory reset so I got it on the charger now, i'll put it off at 100% and lay it down and see what happens.
I spent the extra money on this over the android wear cause S3 had the better battery life. If this keeps up, ima just return it and try to get the new LG2 watch.

I don't have the LTE Frontier. I've got the standard Frontier without cell service.

You can still get to that menu on non-lte version just use the dialer on the watch, the "quick button" didn't work for me neither.
It took 2 resets on Saturday evening, but yesterday my battery life was back to normal. I took the Gear S3 off the charger at 8:00AM yesterday and as of now almost 24 hours later it is at 81%.
Thanks for the help.
For anyone following, I did a factory reset yesterday and that seemed to fix the issue. Took it off the charger around 9am and its at 95%. waaaaay better. Guess i can switch back to the other watch face lol.
So try factory reset first. sucks but seemed to work as of now.

Hi All,
I've had my Gear S3 for a couple of days now, and I'm really struggling with the battery life. I took it off a full charge this morning at 10:30am... it's about to go dead at 20:50. So I'm getting pretty much just over 10hrs out of a battery... no where near the 3-4 days advertised. I wouldn't mind, I've not even been really using it as I've been working.
After doing some research, this morning I turned the brightness right down, and disabled NFC - thinking that would help. It didn't.
Do you think it could be a defective device? Or am I doing something wrong?
Appreciate any help/advice.
Cheers,
Leigh
Sounds defective. I would exchange or return. Should last over a day at least.
two days all off only notification on bluetooth it is normal
if you are using gps n more 5 hours
and depends also with watchface

I had the same problem on a brand new S3 that I purchased from Verizon last week. Almost returned the watch. I did a couple things right in a row so I'm not sure which one actually helped but I will try in remember everything I did.
Remove Samsung Gear from your phone.. Re start and log back in.
Reset watch to factory... Then restart watch and let it connect to the watch and re sync everything.
Then shut off Bluetooth on the watch and power down.... Restart watch and then turn on Bluetooth.
There was one more thing that I did but I will have to research it on a different device I can't remember exactly what I did it had to do with the secret menu on the watch. I'm at work right now and will probably be able to find out the instructions sometime tomorrow during the day and will repost.
Long story short whatever I did totally fixed my watch period before I did all that I was getting about 7 hours and now afterwards, I'm getting two and a half days with Bluetooth always on screen always on and multiple watch faces.

What is the firmware version?
Wait... there a "secret menu"?
My Frontier is 3 months out of warranty and nobody in Australia seems to be able to help me. So, The screen started going yellow one day and then lines started to appear over the watch faces and then by the end of the day the watch went into an endless bootloop. There was no way to stop it until the battery ran out. I tried charging it, but after a few seconds the charger started to blink red. I sent it to Samsung and they said there were no signs of water damage or physical damage to the watch, but since it was an "overseas model" they were no allowed to repair it. I contacted **** Smith and Kogan and they said they also could not fix the problem. I tried charging it coulple of weeks later to try to get pics of what it was doing and it charged up with no problems. I updated to Tizen 4 and then wore the watch all day with no issues. Everything worked! Then the next morning the yellow lines started showing up. I'm just trying to find out if you think I'd need a new battery or motherboard? I love my Frontier, but I really don't want to have to buy another one. I turn to the people of XDA for help.
Oh. Ok, cool. Thanks.
Since the last update, I got the dreaded battery drain issue.
Used to get about 1.5 days out of a full charge on my Gear S3 Frontier (WiFi) - after the update, less than 6 hours. Within a week of the update - less than 2 hours. Finally, it wouldn't even charge - it was going down in the cradle! Now, it basically won't charge.
So I finally yesterday, I changed the battery. On the brand new battery - NO CHANGE. One day later - the watch is unusable. Won't even charge the brand new battery.
I've tried all of the tips - resetting the phone multiple times. Rebooting multiple times. Disabling EVERYTHING. Nothing has worked.
On the Samsung forums, it looks like this is the case with the Galaxy Watch too! It's obviously a software issue. How do we fix it?! Samsung is unresponsive.
What have you guys done?! Thanks...
What software build you have?

Same issue.
My Gear S3 stiil works fine. I think it has better battery life since the last few updates and mainly after Tizen 4.x update.
Should have posted:
I'm on the R760XXU2ESF2/R7600XA2ESF2 update. Tried all night to get something to work - it won't stay on at all unless in the cradle - and even then it claims to be charged at "0%"
It's a paperweight to me as of now...
I'm on ESF2 too and to be honest it's the best firmware since I have this watch ( I bought mine on September 2018) . I had problems like you but I cleaned the watch, installed firmware with Odin once again and now is okay (48 hours on battery with bluetooth turned on all the time)

I've installed firmware on many phones, but haven't tried it on my Gear S3 before. Maybe that's what it needs, just a clean firmware install. Does it trip the Knox counter (and therefore stop Samsung Pay from working?) That's the main reason I've kept this watch and not moved onto Galaxy Watch - I love the MST ability of the watch. Why did they get rid of it?! I hope the next one adds MST back on!

Have you tried resetting it? I'm sure you have as that would be the first thing I'd try but can't see any reference to that effect so thought I would ask.

Yeah, I've reset it multiple times. I've managed over the last couple of days to actually get it charged - 2 or 3% at a time. Then I would take it off and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. When I just left it on, the red light would start blinking, and it would say it was back at 0%.. I've tried every suggestion I can find, so looks like flashing the firmware is my last resort.
I did a little searching and found a thread saying that using NetOdin to reinstall firmware will not trip Knox and/or disable Samsung Pay. Has anyone tried this and had success? Thanks!
Mine works i had 4.0 Batt Drain, went back to 3.002 I get 2 days! Roll it back and stop it from updating!

Sounds good to me! Can you confirm Samsung Pay w/ MST still works?
And can you point me in the direction of the 3.002 firmware and/or step by step instructions? I'm assuming you used NetOdin?
As I mentioned, I've flashed phones, but this will be my first time trying my watch. The NetOdin instructions I've found look pretty straight forward, but I'm not sure where to find the US, non-carrier (WiFi) versions of the firmware.
Thanks!
Mine works perfectly. 4.0.0.4
I have a fully updated gear s3 frontier. I get about 4 days charge with no vibrate and only audio notifications. I have it set to activate the screen only by bezel or button press. These settings have worked the best for me. The thing you need to realize is if you are using an aftermarket charger, it will NOT work with an updated watch. Hope this helps.

Before the latest watch update it would lock while on my wrist very seldom (2-3 times a day).
After the update i find it locked 100% of the times looking at it - even when it is very snug on my wrist.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
Is there any way to mitigate it?
(I have to keep the lock feature on in order to use google pay)
Nope.
1) Clean the sensors on the back of the watch.
2) Wear it snug.
3) Wear it snugger.
There is no way to "mitigate it", its security requirement to use Google Pay, to stop anyone from tearing it off your wrist and going on a shopping spree...no one is even looking at "mitigating it" so forget that as an option
This has been covered a millionty times between here and reddit
I maybe have to unlock once a day if i have rolled over in the night and its temporarily lost contact
Samsung didnt release the update just to make your watch lock more.

Shure but Samsung could make a mistake. Not the first and not the last.
I agree with topic author. Something went wrong with unlocking after last update. I also started to encounter problems but not so frequent as author.

I use Google Pay several times a day, every day, 7 days a week
No change to my experience post update, and in fact my watch is probably less snug now using a metal band, than when i used the original band it came with...
How often do you clean the back of your watch, i do mine a couple of times a day, usually when i take it off to take a shower....i suppose if your overly hairy that might be a thing....
Trust me, i'd be the 1st (and most vocal) person complaining in if i had to enter the code every x hours...

Never did that
I have some idea: restart the watch and see if situation is getting better after
I realised it helps me. After I leave the watch ( turned on ) on the charger for the night, then next hours I have it on hand - problem occurs. After restart problem vanishes.

This is EXACTLY what happens to me every day now too! And only started recently as well.
Charge overnight (with watch on), put it on the wrist in the morning, unlock it, let it dim the screen (I have the always on display turned on). Instead of going to the always on mode, it turns off the screen, then asks for pwd again if I try to use it.
Restarting the device fixes the issue, i.e. always on works again and don't need to enter password several times, just once.
To be clear, this was my daily routine since the watch was launched many months ago, and only recently this became an issue.
As guys has asked to try to clean the watch sensors and wear it snugly etc. I have tried all solutions for my Watch 4, and a few more and now it is working perfectly without locking itself. But not sure what which method has fixed it.
I also have problem when I update this last firmware, now when I flip my wrist it won't turn on and the sensor light is on continuously, I'm looking for the old firmware to reload can anyone help I'm not? My watch code is SM-R895U. Thank you very much everyone.
Mine works perfectly. I do not think it was the firmware that caused your issue (but I could be wrong). Another user found out his watch sensor was bad and had his watch repaired. The previous poster to you cleaned his sensor and refit hos watch band. You may need to reset your watch if something did not load correctly.
I have not looked, but in recovery, if you have the selections like the phone, clear the system cache and repair your apps.
