Since the last update, I got the dreaded battery drain issue.
Used to get about 1.5 days out of a full charge on my Gear S3 Frontier (WiFi) - after the update, less than 6 hours. Within a week of the update - less than 2 hours. Finally, it wouldn't even charge - it was going down in the cradle! Now, it basically won't charge.
So I finally yesterday, I changed the battery. On the brand new battery - NO CHANGE. One day later - the watch is unusable. Won't even charge the brand new battery.
I've tried all of the tips - resetting the phone multiple times. Rebooting multiple times. Disabling EVERYTHING. Nothing has worked.
On the Samsung forums, it looks like this is the case with the Galaxy Watch too! It's obviously a software issue. How do we fix it?! Samsung is unresponsive.
What have you guys done?! Thanks...
What software build you have?

Same issue.
My Gear S3 stiil works fine. I think it has better battery life since the last few updates and mainly after Tizen 4.x update.
Should have posted:
I'm on the R760XXU2ESF2/R7600XA2ESF2 update. Tried all night to get something to work - it won't stay on at all unless in the cradle - and even then it claims to be charged at "0%"
It's a paperweight to me as of now...
I'm on ESF2 too and to be honest it's the best firmware since I have this watch ( I bought mine on September 2018) . I had problems like you but I cleaned the watch, installed firmware with Odin once again and now is okay (48 hours on battery with bluetooth turned on all the time)

I've installed firmware on many phones, but haven't tried it on my Gear S3 before. Maybe that's what it needs, just a clean firmware install. Does it trip the Knox counter (and therefore stop Samsung Pay from working?) That's the main reason I've kept this watch and not moved onto Galaxy Watch - I love the MST ability of the watch. Why did they get rid of it?! I hope the next one adds MST back on!

Have you tried resetting it? I'm sure you have as that would be the first thing I'd try but can't see any reference to that effect so thought I would ask.

Yeah, I've reset it multiple times. I've managed over the last couple of days to actually get it charged - 2 or 3% at a time. Then I would take it off and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. When I just left it on, the red light would start blinking, and it would say it was back at 0%.. I've tried every suggestion I can find, so looks like flashing the firmware is my last resort.
I did a little searching and found a thread saying that using NetOdin to reinstall firmware will not trip Knox and/or disable Samsung Pay. Has anyone tried this and had success? Thanks!
Mine works i had 4.0 Batt Drain, went back to 3.002 I get 2 days! Roll it back and stop it from updating!

Sounds good to me! Can you confirm Samsung Pay w/ MST still works?
And can you point me in the direction of the 3.002 firmware and/or step by step instructions? I'm assuming you used NetOdin?
As I mentioned, I've flashed phones, but this will be my first time trying my watch. The NetOdin instructions I've found look pretty straight forward, but I'm not sure where to find the US, non-carrier (WiFi) versions of the firmware.
Thanks!
Mine works perfectly. 4.0.0.4
I have a fully updated gear s3 frontier. I get about 4 days charge with no vibrate and only audio notifications. I have it set to activate the screen only by bezel or button press. These settings have worked the best for me. The thing you need to realize is if you are using an aftermarket charger, it will NOT work with an updated watch. Hope this helps.

My G4 got the Marshmallow update in early February and hasn't been the same since. First few weeks were okay and I noticed small improvements in touch sensitivity, responsiveness, and connectivity to my home and work WiFi switched automatically without having to manually tell it to connect. I was happy until...
The last couple of weeks, my battery drains drastically fast, even when it is plugged into various chargers. This morning my battery read 35%, while on the charger. I have been rotating a handful of spare batteries to see if there is a problem with any of them, but they all seem to act the same (including the original battery). I have the sync, location, calendar, and Google running, but little else.
Is this a problem that many are having after the MM update, or could it be something else?
first thing to do if you're having issues after a major update is to factory reset
Thanks, snowrelyt! I figured as much, but was hoping that there would be another fix, so that I didn't have to set up the device all over again.
Lately, my G4 has rebooted itself a few times over the last week or two, so a reset is inevitable... I just need to get the battery above 18% for that! LOL

Deb--Did a reset resolve the problem??? I am just now encountering similar problems, beginning yesterday. My phone went from 98% to 19% overnight, and it was turned off, sitting on the nightstand.
I have four batteries, and a couple of Qi chargers, and I think they are getting a full charge when on the Qi or on the LG charger. However, I just now had trouble getting the phone to fire up, and put in a "new battery" at 92%, and Battery Doc said 60% right after I got the phone up & running.
I hate the thought of doing a factory reset, but if that's what's necessary, I guess I have to. Did the reset solve your difficulty, apologies for repeating that question. Enzo Ferraro, Long Beach, California

Sorry, about the delay, Enzo! I don't get on here much.
I finally got around to doing a hard reset yesterday, because the battery draining was getting too often and very random. I also had a few spontaneous reboots while I was trying to type, so I knew there was no escaping it.

Haha, you're like me: Can never have enough spare batteries (I've got 4 or 5)! First thing I always do is buy at least one or two extra batteries. I tried using different batteries and chargers, but the behavior still happened at odd times, so I deduced that it had to be my G4.

It seems to have resolved what was going on. After a hard reset, I noticed small changes in the look & a few functions of the OS that I hadn't seen before. Also, after Google Play reinstalled my applications, I noticed that some of them looked/behaved differently, although I don't know if a few of them were already due for an update yet or not. Yesterday, I forgot to put my phone on the charger and it was still at almost a full charge this morning. I'll have to put my G4 and the battery through a few cycles though, but it's looking like things are back to normal now. I can only imagine that I most likely had some residual stuff left over from the Lollipop OS that was interfering with the Marshmallow OS.
Back when I had my Windows Mobile phones, I would flash/reset my phone almost every other week trying out new ROMs like it was nothing and I always hard reset afterward, but I have yet to even begin to mess with my G4. I just can't grasp Android's differences that well (everything is still Greek to me) and this is my second Android phone (had my HTC Desire Z for about 4-5 years ). Couple that with how most everyone here uses terms/abbreviations that make zero sense to me (spell it out, damn it! :silly and I just may be on the AT&T G4 ROMs forever!
I hope all goes well for you, Enzo!
I'm getting heavy drain when the screen is on. More so than with 5.1
I just got a used G4 today with MM on it and it literally has the worst battery life of any phone I've ever owned. This sucks.

I was excited to remember this phone during looking at phones since I'm in the market for a new phone since my G4 died. But looking at a thread here it seemed a lot of people were having problems with soft reboots. Does this only affect rooted? or? is it for every verizon note edge? As nice as this phone is that might be a deal breaker for me. How long does a soft reboot take on the note edge? under 5 seconds? 10 seconds? longer? Just wondering in case I ever had an emergency how long I'd have to wait before I could call while it's doing it's soft reboot. And I hope it's not for every verizon note edge. But if it is how many times does it do it in a day for most? Meaning from about 8am-12midnight. Thanks guys.
Just do not use fingerprint lockscreen and no soft reboot at all.
How often occur? Good question, it depends on your habits. For me about 2 times per day. It last 5 sec, with laggy things 10-15 sec...
I am on 915FY btw not V.
On my 915FY it occured several times a day, and took sometimes more than a minute to get it working again. But fortunately I solved the problem with disabeling the stock-lockscreen and use hi locker instead. That app works with fingerprint and no reboots since then. All the other bugs (eg. loosing BT- or wifi-connection every now and then) seem to be related to exact the same lockscreen-bug and never appeared since that change.

I'm sure there are some, just browse through play store. What means "temperamental" in relation with an lockscreen-app?

I can't use Svoice while the screen is off, which is probably true of all lockscreen apps thinking about it.
I am using hi locker but still get the soft reboot in background....

Seems like it's every 20 mins... literally all the time.
Is this issue unique to the Note Edge, or does it happen with other Samsung phones?
What does soft reboot mean?
I'm wondering if this subject heading is the same as the problem I'm having on my notes edge... The phone goes off and tries to reboot even with 56% and at times with 70% battery left...
I'm desperately looking for a solution.

I had this problem. Every time the battery got down to about 60% the phone would cut off, try to reboot unsuccessfully a few times then die. Would not fully boot up until I put the phone on the charger. New battery solved it for me. Had this problem with another phone. Same thing. The battery was bad.

Thanks. I'm on this thread today because of an N915F crashing around the 40% battery full range. Unfortunately after it does that a few times it goes into boot loop that won't fix with cache wipes, and after a while it wouldn't fix with a reset either. It was still on KitKat, so I flashed 6.0.1 from September 2017 (Sammobile), but it crashed as well. Stepped back to July 2017 from Updato which updated to August 2017 through system update, and switched to a charger that will actually increase the charge on the phone while it's being used. Has been running fine while on the charger, but I also suspected a hardware issue since it would soft reboot on the recovery screen. Even though I have the battery at 100% now, I don't dare run it without the charger because I'm tired of going through setup and configuration over and over again. I ordered a battery last night. I hope that solves it for me too.
Use wakelock
select partial wake lock
and setting to start up on boot
its work on me never deepsleep in lock mode
I had same problem... Time for a new phone

I've had pretty great battery life on my Gear S3 Frontier until this week. Before I could go 3-3.5 days on a charge. This week I'm lucky to get 1-1.5 days out of the watch. Nothing has changed. Any ideas?
When looking in the app at the About Gear battery info so you see any high battery usage other than the watch faces? I usually disregard the watch faces on my watch because mine usually runs between 60 and 80% but I still get right at 3 days. Do you use Samsung Pay, because you can disable NFC if you don't.

Have you tried re-starting it?
I do use SPay and have always used it since I got the watch.
The only thing that uses the most battery is watch faces. I'm using a dark watch face too.
I charged the watch before I left work at 4:00PM EST today and by now (10:33PM EST) it is at 48%.

Have you synced it to a new device recently? The reason I ask is because I just got the S8+ and had to factory reset my Gear S3 twice. After doing so my WiFi and mobile data was turned on for some odd reason.
Another solution may be to do a factory reset just to see if something may be causing your issue.

I factory reset it yesterday. I haven't connected it to a new phone.
I may try to reset it again later today.
I used to get 4 days out of my S3 Frontier but recently it suddenly dropped to less than 2 days. There was no change in my use of the watch or no new apps/watch faces etc and all I made sure 'recent apps' were closed frequently. Anyway, I did a reset and I'm back up to 4 days again.
I'm trying another reset. I turned reactivation lock off this time.
I got the watch off the charger at 8:30AM EST this morning and as of now (3:45PM EST) I was at 47%. The only app I installed was a dark watch face.

I am having the same problem. There was an software update for me to go to Tizen 2.3.2 and has been down right horrible. I would lose about 8% battery a day now its near 45% a day. I look into battery drainage and S Health is at the top. I got everything turned off to what I could but it still counts my steps, calories burned etc. No Auto HR and that.
I took it to best buy to see if the samsung guy could reflash an older version of tizen but he couldn't. we did a factory reset so I got it on the charger now, i'll put it off at 100% and lay it down and see what happens.
I spent the extra money on this over the android wear cause S3 had the better battery life. If this keeps up, ima just return it and try to get the new LG2 watch.

You can still get to that menu on non-lte version just use the dialer on the watch, the "quick button" didn't work for me neither.
It took 2 resets on Saturday evening, but yesterday my battery life was back to normal. I took the Gear S3 off the charger at 8:00AM yesterday and as of now almost 24 hours later it is at 81%.
Thanks for the help.
For anyone following, I did a factory reset yesterday and that seemed to fix the issue. Took it off the charger around 9am and its at 95%. waaaaay better. Guess i can switch back to the other watch face lol.
So try factory reset first. sucks but seemed to work as of now.

Hi All,
I've had my Gear S3 for a couple of days now, and I'm really struggling with the battery life. I took it off a full charge this morning at 10:30am... it's about to go dead at 20:50. So I'm getting pretty much just over 10hrs out of a battery... no where near the 3-4 days advertised. I wouldn't mind, I've not even been really using it as I've been working.
After doing some research, this morning I turned the brightness right down, and disabled NFC - thinking that would help. It didn't.
Do you think it could be a defective device? Or am I doing something wrong?
Appreciate any help/advice.
Cheers,
Leigh
Sounds defective. I would exchange or return. Should last over a day at least.
two days all off only notification on bluetooth it is normal
if you are using gps n more 5 hours
and depends also with watchface

I had the same problem on a brand new S3 that I purchased from Verizon last week. Almost returned the watch. I did a couple things right in a row so I'm not sure which one actually helped but I will try in remember everything I did.
Remove Samsung Gear from your phone.. Re start and log back in.
Reset watch to factory... Then restart watch and let it connect to the watch and re sync everything.
Then shut off Bluetooth on the watch and power down.... Restart watch and then turn on Bluetooth.
There was one more thing that I did but I will have to research it on a different device I can't remember exactly what I did it had to do with the secret menu on the watch. I'm at work right now and will probably be able to find out the instructions sometime tomorrow during the day and will repost.
Long story short whatever I did totally fixed my watch period before I did all that I was getting about 7 hours and now afterwards, I'm getting two and a half days with Bluetooth always on screen always on and multiple watch faces.

Hi Guys;
I was almost throwing away my Gear S3 Frontier and then remember this site which I used in the past for smart phones.
I need some assistance and direction as what I suppose to do.
Problem: Watch power off within a minute of taking off from charging cradle but run fine as far as on cradle (probably battery draining). This is happening since last software updated.
Watch Info:
Model: SM-760
Software: Tizen 4.0.0.7
Firmware: R760XXU2FTD4/ R760OXA2FTD4
I did factory reset, reboot etc.... nothing worked but it got worst. First battery drained within a day, then within hours, now I can't take out from charging
What are my possibilities to get my watch back running:
- Will replacing the battery good enough to solve the problem? or
- Should I root to previous software version. Will this work?
Can anyone direct me to any previous thread which have step by step process for solution?
Thanks a lot.

Mine was doing the exact same thing. Back in November, I contacted Samsung via Members app chat. I had to send it in for repair. The battery was failed. They replaced the battery, the watch back, and updated the software. It was out of warranty so it cost me $70. Five day turn around once they received it. Glad I got it fixed because I was so frustrated with the battery issues I stopped wearing it. Got it back and it looked and worked like new. (And still is!)
