Anyone considering/request to create ROMs for N9860 - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Seeing so many ROMs introduced, any love for N9860

That's the sacrifice you made taking the Snapdragon over Exynos.

Agree, snapdragons may get root and possibly even twrp but historically speaking not much in the way of any development.
A rom here and there thats about it, nothing as compared to exynos versions.
If you just need root for certain functions not an issue, if you like flashing roms, kernels etc....well not going to much to flash. Its always been like this for as long as i can remember since the NA snaps were locked down and people went to the HK/Latin America versions.

That's because most developers left Samsung phones

I'm hoping now that US snapdragon BL,'s have been unlocked right along with TWRP and root, we shall hopefully start seeing more dev love in the back way of rims! In just had my unlock through the service performed a few days ago and now I FN love this phone! Just need great roms to go along with the unlock and root. Would personally want a note 20 Ultra Weta Rom!

If most devs left then how come we see it for Exynos
If Snaps can be unlocked and a superior product - why not then

The amount of ROMs we have now pale in comparison to what we used to have. So yeah we have some for exynos but you need to consider maybe looking at methods to get snapdragon phones into devs hands. As opposed to just asking nicely.

Don't shoot the messenger, that's how I read it everywhere - but isn't it true that the Exynos chip sucks in comparison

I think I can tell abt the battery atleast, but at the end of the day - I see that if one had to root then Exonys was better option for roms etc
I read about the anger before the release and since there was an option to go either way for Dual SIM, I assumed HK 9860 was the perfect blend. I see a ROM for 986U - I mean there isn't even a public unlock for it and there is a ROM already
I thought it would be nice to see an option but no biggie

I think we can with no issues. I am preordering it so I will let you know asap. The only issue I can see is if Google did not use samsung rfs partition. Im pretty sure they wont use it but who knows. If it is not rfs I think we would have to reformat are storage then load the rom. Im not a expert on android partitioning so we will need help with that but im sure tons of people will help out.
Definitely count me in & contact me if anyone needs any help on doing this work. This is probably the best news Captivate owners have had since buying the phone. Heh.

Yeah same here. I felt like I was the only person rooting for the Nexus S to not have a dual core and push boundaries but rather be similar to our devices.
If porting turns out to be easy then this is huuuuge for all Galaxy S owners. You can pretty much live in any country, and be on any carrier and will have the option for a Galaxy S variant with a huge amount of custom roms available.
i guess im the only one whos skeptical that samsung will allow us to flash a VANILLA rom over their own touchwiz..

Look like the Nexus S is going to be sold unlocked after 12/16. It should have no problems working with at&t's network, right?
It supports:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
HSPA: 900, 1700, 2100
Even though we may get the software ported onto a Captivate, I need a phone with working LBS.
this is the best news ever. what a christmas gift!!!
I am also very curious and cant wait to hear.
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9200.htm
This has got to be the firmware for the Nexus S. Android 2.3. A month ago, we couldn't do much with it. Will the new SDK help?
The only thing I'm slightly worried about is if it's got a legit 512MB of RAM as opposed to our sorta 512MB RAM... and if it will make that much of a difference.

It shouldn't. The HIGHMEM fix was included in 2.2, iirc.
**Edit - to clarify - since the code that addressed allowable memory was already included in a version many here are already unofficially running, the amount of RAM shouldn't make a difference. It'll be like putting 6GB of memory in a PC w/a 32bit OS.
That said, there may well be some performance differences, but I've not read where Gingerbread's all that much more demanding on the hardware than Froyo.
I will definitely be donating to the developers with the nexus S ROM

Interesting. I assume that, like the N1, they'll release models for each carrier, but yeah, the pre-order page is only showing Tmo as a carrier.

LG V20 H990DS Dual Sim UK

I've received mine today and so far so good.
Using EE and Vodafone sim plus 128gb Sd Card.
I'm going to be testing 4g when i step out for both networks, don't have the best of signals within my house.
Sd card works without any silly error messages or compatibility issues.
Not noticed any Chinese bloatware at all which i a plus, full english os.
So far so good
If you have any questions give me a shout.
I can confirm this version works on all 4 G networks no issues. I've tried EE, Vodafone, O2 and 3.
thanks
Hi Riz
Can you get rid of that fourth button (dual sim) in the navbar if you don't use a second sim ? I think it's a bit distracting.
yes you can
Changed display size to small which is fantastic.
Thanks!
And yes, i think I will like this option to set the display size too.
May I ask where you ordered it from? I found many vendors on Ebay stating 'shipped from UK', but I want to make sure it won't come from Asia and I will not have to pay any custom fee.
Sure it was delivered from UK London.
It was from allanelectronic
100% positive feedback
Arrived earlier then estimated date which is top notch
Responds to queries very quickly i asked loads of questions and answered every single one.
No bloatware etc

You should be fine on the box it clearly states LTE 800 2600.
So far so good no real issues and I'm very happy with my purchase. Nougat is fantastic and some of the dark LG themes are brilliant,
Ui has improved vastly, I recommend it over any other android phone. I've had Pixel XL, Iphone 7 plus, S7 Edge, Huawei p9 plus but v20 is unique mainly due to the second screen.
Camera is excellent
Love the dual sim benefit
My only issue is I wish the build quality was better, wish it was more like the iPhone 7 plus. I prefer heavier phone just gives it a more premium feel.

No real reason to root as no custom Roms or tweaks. So I probably won't root unless there are customs roms flying about.

I usually root all my phones but at the moment for me there's no real reason too. Hopefully development takes off for this phone then I might.
Also I'll only root if there's no real risk and I don't feel comfortable just yet.

Does it have 3G standy or 2G for the second SIM?

Thinking of coming over from Samsung?

Greetings;
I'm almost convinced to sell my Sammy S8+ and buying an HTC U11!
What I need to know is this: is there an advantage to get a specific variant
over another as far as the "Rom/Kernel Development" goes?
I live in Canada but can also import one or even get a "US unlocked" unit.
Thank you.

Well, those of us who have been with HTC since the beginning of time welcome you with open arms... but before that, there's a few things we have to go over on our "Are-You-Worthy-Of-The-HTC-Phone-Checklist"
1. Do you constantly wish you could change your phone to fit your needs (you're that guy that always has something unique or flashy on their phone)?
2. Are you a nerd, geek or maybe have high aspirations to be either (Blessed are the nerds, for they shall inherit the earth)?
3. Are you a selfless, confident guy who values quality and uniqueness over useless features?
4. Do you promise to remain faithful, year after year, even if HTC fails to produce devices worthy of your C.H.C (cold hard cash)?
If so, then I recommend going after the regular Unlocked HTC U11 (US version). International version from my experience though comes with dual sims, take longer to get updates and other critical software improvements.
Ditch Sammy and grab the HTC. You might even find yourself with a sexy nerdy chick on your arm! :good:

I've got the U.S. unlocked version and it has 2 sims or it can be used with 1 sim and an sdcard.
My suggestion is get the 6GB/128GB unlocked version ... this way you can use both simslots if you need to and still have more than enough storage.

This thing flies! I'm not sure if it's because I disabled animation in Developer options but this is really fast! The unit is slippery at the same time for me it feels very nice to hold. Premium build as expected from HTC. And yes the camera...its great! 6GB/128GB here?

Well I went from the s8+ to the G6, lasted 1 day back to the s8+ then I got the OnePlus 5. Ditched the s8+ for the oneplus. Lost the great display but gained a smooth lag free experience. Then I got a great deal on the HTC U11. Never considered HTC before that. Never been a fan of touch U11 and their cameras we always ****ty. So when the U11 Dxomark rated 90 came along it seemed like an obvious choice. So now I got rid of the oneplus 5 and I'm rocking the U11 until the note 8 comes along.
The U11 software experience is just as smooth as the oneplus 5 with half the ram so better than the s8+. Only downside imo is the UI it's very dated. It basically looks like kit kat. The theming engine is laughable and sense is way too invasive. On the upside the design and finish is great, the screen is surprisingly good and the sound is also very good. So in the end somehow HTC U11>Oneplus5 >S8+
And yeah no lag.
Did I mention no lag... ?

Oh yeah. Oneplus has definitely taken over the Nexus mantle. Lots of bang for your buck with a thriving development community. The only reason that made me go with the U11 is the better camera. I'm not sure which provider you're with. I'm with Telus and I lost my LTE + with the U11 had it on both the s8+ and the OP5 just in case that sort of thing matters to you. ?

Its this time of the year guys! This thread is to discuss pre-orders across all stores and providers in Canada. To compare notes and ask ROBELUS related questions. I personally pulled the trigger for an unlocked (no subsidy) phone through best buy, delivery scheduled for the 16th and then I went back in an through Telus the pick up is on the 9th for some reason so I pulled the trigger on both. What did you order from where? What did you select? Pick up or delivery? Please share.
It seems the Exynos s9+ has 128gb of memory and the Snapdragon only 64gb. What gives?

Well the exynos is more expensive so at least you get more for your money, but ya stupid decision samsung.

That kind of makes me mad, like why can't samsung offer 64gb and 128gb/256gb in Canada. I mean if apple could do it, then samsung should have no excuse.
So there's no Exynos version? Wtf?

yeah there is an exynos version, not for Canada. I heard Samsung going be under-clocking exynos processors so they are the same performance of sd845.

One question though, does anyone know where to get the blue in Canada?

But on snapdragon, we wont have unlocked bootloader so no root , which means no xda stuff. Na man, i won't buy s9 then!
Hola
I am still on the fence about getting this device. One unique thing that I need is VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling features and currently you can only get these "advanced" functions by buying a phone directly from your carrier. I would be more inclined to get the Exynos version primarily because you can get decent third-party custom ROMs that, for the most part, provide a cleaner experience than the bloated full stock firmware.
Ah boy first world issues indeed...

Yes it is but my pick up date is the 9th. Guy on the phone confirmed it but in the store they're saying they might receive it on the 9th and still won't be able to sell it until the 16th. That's why I guess we'll see Friday.

That be cool if they sell it earlier, but slim chance for that.

I just went over my emails and it turns out they sent me an email telling me to disregard the shipping notice and that my phone will be ready for pick up on the 16th. Oh well...
Just placed my preorder online with Samsung.ca. SES is not too convenient for me and having read about some hassles with using the $150 credit against the phone, I figured online was easier as the credit is already applied and I may get my phone before the 16th.
But why you guys not worried about the Snapdragon processor, i mean locked bootloader. Are you guys okay with that?
Also the benchmark scores are drastically higher on Exynos (3600, 9500) as compared ro the crapdragon(2400,8500).

No point if Samsung going under clock the exynos version so it performs like sd845. That’s what people at anandtech found out, hopefully it’s not true.

Bro the geekbench scores are drastically high on exynos but yeah the the other scores are pretty low.. i think in real life, Exynos will still be faster than the Snapdragon.
People still pay attention to benchmarks? I have no issues with my SD835 S8+ and I only expect the S9+ to be even faster. I'll take real-world usage over benchmarks any day. Plus, I like being able to use VoLTE and having proper Carrier Aggregation support for LTE, something that I can't use if I import an Exynos version.

(Root Discussion) [Nothing Yet] Snapdragon G965U

All discussion and info pertaining to root goes here.
Will update this OP as needed.
4/26/2018- There are TWO people working on root. Don't expect it ANYTIME soon. ?. Zero progress has been made since release.

This is the single most 'thing' I'm waiting for...is a root method for the S9+ ... I wouldn't mind something like samfail for the Note 8, which I'm running and is absolutely perfect in doing everything it needs to...
I used to be all about ROM ROM ROM ... but honestly the stock firmware has been great with it debloated and cleaned up.
Hoping for the best... If we get Root for the S9+ (SD variant) I'm in for another S9+ lol...
Note: As some of you know like with the Note 8, there exists the v1, v2, v2.5, v3 root methods for the different firmware. What I'm curious about is at what point will we be completely locked out of our S9+'s due to those virus updates/patches?
Tip: DO NO BLINDLY JUMP TO UPDATES FOLKS... NEIN NEIN NEIN.... If you roll up too far and that virus update/patch so happens to be the one to lock the device out from ever being able to obtain some kind of root, you'll be totally SOL.

Yes indeed it has. MM 6.0 was great...Nougat 7.0 has been awesome....Oreo 8.0 has been a complete disaster like LP 5.0 was.
I still favor the simplicity of the good ol' JB 4.3 days lol....
At the end of the day, I'll take root over a custom ROM any day and I'm sure a lot of folks are in that same boat as well...
Not being able to use Titanium Back Up has been painful. :fingers-crossed: for root for the S9+

What's the problem with 8.0? It hasn't even been fully released on all devices yet.

For the apps that I use, it's mainly compatibility issues...also as time goes on things are getting more and more locked down. Heck Android P might as well rename it to Android iOS. It's absolutely daunting on where Android is headed now.... it is drunk on the Apple kool aid.
What happened to asop and the freedom right?
I'm very happy with 8.0

The reason why it's become so bad, my opinion anyway, is people who have no business rooting their phones are doing it and wrecking their phones, then wanting someone else to foot the bill for it.

That could very well add to the sky falling.
However, a lot of this proprietary security stuff is causing the lock down too with Knox etc...
They should just offer the ability to unlock bl/BB and have a button that needs be to tapped 10x to confirm the void in warranty by proceeding... That way it's idiot proof and fair game.
If people are too lazy to read, then they deserve to pay the tuition of reality check 101 lol..
I know I'm blunt... But it's the truth and most would agree.

why someone even bother to buy trash broken snapdragon version, just why ?
we have a normal unlocked working version with exynos chipset.
G965F doesnt support B71 for Tmobile in USA

Because that is the default device for the North American market.
I'm perfectly happy with my SD version. Good battery life and performance seems to be spectacular.

...AND because those with T-Mobile can get land a killer deal on the top Samsung flagships.
Ex. T-Mobile had a BOGO Deal on the Note 8, which makes both of my Note 8's come out to ~$410. If I sell my 2nd one, I would be making +$300 to own my current Note 8 LOL ... just saying... (Pic attached of the $820 pre paid Mastercard for proof that I got back for the 2nd Note 8... not that it's needed, but it doesn't hurt to back it up.) Even if I keep my 2nd Note 8 as a back up, I'm still in the win for obtaining a flagship for less than the wannabe chinese knock off's out there that are no longer really cheap at $450-$500+ now *cough* OP5 ...
The S9/S9+ has a trade in deal right now as well for either $200 or $360, depending on what phone you trade in. So why would I pass up getting $200 for my old S4's and S5's? ...there's no way to get even close to that in today's market.... it's a no brainer.
I do agree that the Exynos variants are much better in terms of CPU and Dev support. A non rooted phone is useless to me, so that is one of the reasons why I even opted for the SD Note 8, ONLY because it has root. As for the S9+ there is a working Titanium Back Up alternative that allows me to freeze the virus software updates so that's the only reason why the S9+ is not going back. We're all hoping for a root for the SD S9+'s.... fingers crossed.
Of course I'd love to get my hands on the 256GB Exynos S9+, however, it is still unsure if it will suffer from the carrier aggregation the Exynos Note 8 had on our US networks. I know that there are a few folks that have ordered the Korean 256GB Exynos variant, so once we get confirmation that those work 100% with TM, I'm all in for another S9+.
So I keep pushing the first update back. Should I go ahead and take it? I'm on Verizon and I know sometimes firmware from release date is easier to root.
Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Hopefully the S9 line gets root. The S8 having no proper form of root at the time and the Note 8 being such a good deal while having root made it hard not to get. Hopefully they Note 9 has a form of Samfail again.

I'm wondering the same thing. Please.
Dude, after the s5, all of my knowledge on rooting etc has gone in the crapper.
I have the unlocked us variant but am on Verizon's network.
As ll the talk regarding the s8+ was even so hard for me to understand and all this used to be so easy. Where did I take a wrong turn? Lol
Doesn't look good guys. Seems like zero development is going on for us Snapdragon users. I've asked and looked in every message board. Seems it's only me and 2 other people working on root.
