Canadian S9+ thread (Waiting room) - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Its this time of the year guys! This thread is to discuss pre-orders across all stores and providers in Canada. To compare notes and ask ROBELUS related questions. I personally pulled the trigger for an unlocked (no subsidy) phone through best buy, delivery scheduled for the 16th and then I went back in an through Telus the pick up is on the 9th for some reason so I pulled the trigger on both. What did you order from where? What did you select? Pick up or delivery? Please share.

It seems the Exynos s9+ has 128gb of memory and the Snapdragon only 64gb. What gives?

Well the exynos is more expensive so at least you get more for your money, but ya stupid decision samsung.

That kind of makes me mad, like why can't samsung offer 64gb and 128gb/256gb in Canada. I mean if apple could do it, then samsung should have no excuse.

So there's no Exynos version? Wtf?

yeah there is an exynos version, not for Canada. I heard Samsung going be under-clocking exynos processors so they are the same performance of sd845.

One question though, does anyone know where to get the blue in Canada?

But on snapdragon, we wont have unlocked bootloader so no root , which means no xda stuff. Na man, i won't buy s9 then!

Hola
I am still on the fence about getting this device. One unique thing that I need is VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling features and currently you can only get these "advanced" functions by buying a phone directly from your carrier. I would be more inclined to get the Exynos version primarily because you can get decent third-party custom ROMs that, for the most part, provide a cleaner experience than the bloated full stock firmware.
Ah boy first world issues indeed...

Yes it is but my pick up date is the 9th. Guy on the phone confirmed it but in the store they're saying they might receive it on the 9th and still won't be able to sell it until the 16th. That's why I guess we'll see Friday.

I just went over my emails and it turns out they sent me an email telling me to disregard the shipping notice and that my phone will be ready for pick up on the 16th. Oh well...

Just placed my preorder online with Samsung.ca. SES is not too convenient for me and having read about some hassles with using the $150 credit against the phone, I figured online was easier as the credit is already applied and I may get my phone before the 16th.

But why you guys not worried about the Snapdragon processor, i mean locked bootloader. Are you guys okay with that?
Also the benchmark scores are drastically higher on Exynos (3600, 9500) as compared ro the crapdragon(2400,8500).

No point if Samsung going under clock the exynos version so it performs like sd845. That’s what people at anandtech found out, hopefully it’s not true.

Bro the geekbench scores are drastically high on exynos but yeah the the other scores are pretty low.. i think in real life, Exynos will still be faster than the Snapdragon.

People still pay attention to benchmarks? I have no issues with my SD835 S8+ and I only expect the S9+ to be even faster. I'll take real-world usage over benchmarks any day. Plus, I like being able to use VoLTE and having proper Carrier Aggregation support for LTE, something that I can't use if I import an Exynos version.

At&t hox or international hox?

Im buying one of these bad boys or girls. The At&t one off contract or the international one. I played with the hox at my local at&t store and it was buttery smooth. Didnt wow me a whole lot but nowadays the next android device is only a tad better than the next...etc. My main concern is performance and the 32gb space that the international one has. Im worried with the at&t 16gb will run out fast on me. This from my 16gb microsd card days. So which one should I get guys?
Comes down to what is more important to you...LTE or storage space. If it's LTE, get the AT&T version...if it's storage, get the international version.
Personally, warranty is important. If you can get an international with warranty and not in a LTE area, go for it.
I am in Dallas so I will get the AT&T one for warranty comfort and LTE speeds

Lol, it should be a no brainer then. In what mostly do you use your space on?
I used to use most of my space on music, but not anymore thanks to google play.
I would take the quad core version. It should be much smoother and faster everywhere. No LTE also means better battery life.
This question has been asked and answered a million times on here... You should take a look.
But here you go.
AT&T HOX= LTE and longer battery life
International HOX= 32gb and if you're an avid phone gamer tegrazone may interest you.
And warranty stuff comes into play too.
Everything else comes to what your decision is.
And let me add the S4 has a faster CPU but inferior GPU. The difference is so minute though you probably won't notice.
Also keep in mind you get 25GB of free Dropbox space. I know it's not a direct replacement for internal storage, but it's something to keep in mind if 16GB seems a little too small.

Thanks! I needed a good laugh tonight! For the first time, I am glad AT&T is getting the dumbed down dual core version.
I dont care much for lte atm. And I'm tempted to get the int. hox but all those issues I've read about it really have me on hold. Nothing like bringing your device back to an at&t store compared with shipping it back to wherever you purchased your international version for a replacement etc. I just wish the int. hox didnt have all those issues like the screen especially

You think. But let me tell you the htc one xl is no where near to being released in internationally. It was not enough announced here in asia. The eventual release is being pushed back indefinitely until 28nm chip shortage ease up. In fact all snapdragon s4 chips supporting lte are going to US and Canada as the priority. A small amount of 28 nm production goes towards the msm8260 non lte s4 chip in the one s which is only released for t- mobile and a couple of european countries so far. We get the hardest kick in the ball.

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.
Please don't give out misinformation
The S4 has the higher DMIP values, which means stronger processing power in general purposes. IF you like games, get the T3 for the Tegrazone, if graphics are important. If you demand your phone to work as advertised, with little or no lag, get the S4.

I'm convinced this is a typo.
The Australian site is the only one to list 32GB. The Hong Kong, US and Canadian sites all list 16GB for the LTE model.
And as of yet, no Australian carrier has even announced they'll be carrying the One XL.

Yeah, I know. Did I not come across with enough sarcasm?
I believe HTC dropped the ball here by giving north americans the 16gb version. They could've been smarter, dare I say apple smart, and offered both versions here 16gb and the 32gb version.
Now I just noticed from the latest leaked galaxy s3 pics that it has a big led notification light. Now I'm interested in hearing what they gotta say in a couple of days.

More a "tour" than a review. There are two kinds of testing, objective and subjective. The latter is more opinion which that video is. I want to see how S-835 and Exynos 8955 compare to each other and their predecessors, how the new Mali and Adreno GPU's stack up, how the new camera's compare to their predecessors and others on the market, battery life and charging time, and brightness and energy use of the new displays. GSMArena, Anandtech, and Notebookcheck are the best at those types of objective tests and they use the same battery of tests consistently across all the devices they test.
Here's Notebookcheck's early hands-on...

Or you wait three days from when you would have received your pre-order and go in to a T-Mobile store and pick it up there. The pre-order frenzy in the T-Mobile thread is farcical. In two weeks anyone (in the U.S.) who wants a S8 can have one. The amount of energy and time being consumed by some people to get the phone a couple of days ahead of launch seems kind of odd. The irony is, at least with the Note7, AT&T'rs got their phones via FedEx before 95% of T-Mobile'rs got theirs via UPS. And the latter had tracking numbers days earlier. To each their own.

Sorry but it's not a great review. The amateurishness of this guy is evident when he says that the samsung chip is even better than Apple's A10 fusion chip. Also adds a sardonic "sorry apple fans"
Obviously this guy is a novice. Because any reputable You tuber knows and as seen in many videos, the iphone 7 plus wipes the floor with Samsung Galaxy S8. He sounds like a very obvious paid reviewer for Samsung.
Don't get me wrong. I have preordered the S8+. But let's be real here. In terms of sheer performance and optimization, no one can touch the iphones.

Don't thinks so.
I had it for one week before get rid of it.
I can't handle those rediculous holes.
The position of power button is completely off.
Also lacking many features Oxygen will offer me.
Also a tone of bloatware as much one UI bring improvements Sammy needs to polished their UI and much less bloatware offers.
Navigation gesture compered to one oneplus offer is completely garbage.
Also I didn't like the yellowish white color tone of the screen.
No matter adjustable manual the white tone I couldn't find the ideal color for my eyes and taste preferences.
Note 9 white color tone of the screen is superior to those at s10 plus.

Agree, snapdragons may get root and possibly even twrp but historically speaking not much in the way of any development.
A rom here and there thats about it, nothing as compared to exynos versions.
If you just need root for certain functions not an issue, if you like flashing roms, kernels etc....well not going to much to flash. Its always been like this for as long as i can remember since the NA snaps were locked down and people went to the HK/Latin America versions.
That's because most developers left Samsung phones
I'm hoping now that US snapdragon BL,'s have been unlocked right along with TWRP and root, we shall hopefully start seeing more dev love in the back way of rims! In just had my unlock through the service performed a few days ago and now I FN love this phone! Just need great roms to go along with the unlock and root. Would personally want a note 20 Ultra Weta Rom!

The amount of ROMs we have now pale in comparison to what we used to have. So yeah we have some for exynos but you need to consider maybe looking at methods to get snapdragon phones into devs hands. As opposed to just asking nicely.

I think I can tell abt the battery atleast, but at the end of the day - I see that if one had to root then Exonys was better option for roms etc
I read about the anger before the release and since there was an option to go either way for Dual SIM, I assumed HK 9860 was the perfect blend. I see a ROM for 986U - I mean there isn't even a public unlock for it and there is a ROM already

General Law suit S22 ultra Exynos

What do you guys think, will there be any law suits againts Samsung where they where promising a flagship and we received maybe 500€ worth of a phone. With all the problems going around like bad network signal, freezing when getting a call, bad GPS signal, camera is far from their promises. I can't belive that a phone can be this different from SD version, which i would not think for a 1300€ phone. I am affraid that many of these faults are hardware related and we will never get the phone it was promised, and will be just a shadow to SD version.
Im starting to believe that GOS issues were intruduced just so Exynos variant would not feel so much different to SD versions, so the must have reduces SD performance so i would compare more to Exsynos version.
If i could return the phone this instance i would, or at least if Samsung would give us option to swap it with SD version.
Dunno... I believe that many of the current issues can and will be fixed via updates and presently many tests indicate that the Exynos indeed isn't all that bad in most categories.
I am in fact most curious about reception quality aka modem, not sure if this is really fixable via software. Most tests so far indicate that the Snapdragon modem indeed is quite a bit ahead of the Exynos....
I have Exynos version (12/256) since day one, never experienced major problems with it, but starting with AVC6, the phone sometimes freezes and reboots for incoming calls, before I even answer. I don't like it.
So... I should not have ordered one today?

If i could return the phone this instance i would, or at least if Samsung would give us option to swap it with SD version.

Sound like a plan.
Don't understand why anyone would purchase the Exynos device. It's not like Exynos has a good track record, it's been problematic for many years. Yeah, some users haven't had any issues but let's be honest, you're rolling the dice on a very expensive smartphone. Even if your carrier can't provision all their call features for the most part you'll lose carrier aggression and 5G. More than happy to sacrifice those features for a problem free device. Class Action Lawsuit? Good luck with that, you might get a check at some point down the road for $20. The only people making out on that front are the lawyers!

You do realise that Exynos version is the only one available in Europe? When living in the UE even if you managed to import Snapdragon version you will have other issues ie waranty.

Yes, I'm aware of that. You still have the warranty but it has to be sent to the retailer for repair. I've had a number of devices purchased from Hong Kong, Snapdragon variants which never needed any type of repair so that hasn't been a concern, I would buy another again without hesitation.

So... I should not have ordered one today?

No. You should have waited to see if it can be fixed. I lost patience, mine went back. Not risking the possibility it can't be fixed

I'm buying Exynos, because only it's available here in Europe, and I get it with insurance from my carrier, so repairs won't bankrupt me .
So, we don't have much option.

Its better. But read all the woes about 8 gen 1. Its made by Samsung lol. That's why it has problems also. Samsung are just average at making soc's.
Should get my dimensity redmi k50 pro soon. Looking forward to that than I ever did the s22 ultra. Was never excited about it. I had no faith lol. Unfortunately it turned out to be true. I'm sure they'll get it right one of these years
Man. Should I just send it back and keep my P6P? I bought the s22u due to recent issues with the p6p I've had since the March udpate.

I would wait until June or July. By then you'll have the option to get the device with the Snapdragon SoC manufacturered in TSMC's Foundry.

Thanks for the advice. I wonder why we can't get the snapdragon manufactured in TSMC found now. It stinks. I guess if I make it until July, I will probably just hold out for the P7P and roll the dice with that one.

Be sure to get a good pair of gloves so your hands don't fry when the K50 Pro exceeds120 degrees fahrenheit. And while you're at it don't forget to buy a couple cans of Raid Aeresol since it's MIUI 13 skin is jam packed with hundreds of bugs!
I ordered an exynos version this week, several weeks delayed, I hope that by the time it is in my hands these issues will be resolved.
Exynos 12/256 here.
Never had any problems.

It's always funny when a hurt Samsung employee replies.

What's even funnier is when a cheap, half baked, Chinese device is compared to an actual topshelf flagship.
