Why do I need to enter passcode every morning? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Before I go to sleep I put my phone on wireless charger. I wake up in the morning and it show unlock using passcode. No fingerprint or face unlock. On top of that the phone does not look like it rebooted.

That's a new security feature implemented with one UI... Basically after 4-5 hours without signing in... It will default to pin... Not sure if this can be turned off

I think it can be turned off by using smart lock, it could be connected to a certain device or location so then you can use fingerprint or face unlock.

I have the same issue glad you made the post

doesn't seem to work with smart lock either for me

Smart lock auto locks phone after 4 hours of inactivity...

You could use Samsung Routines to keep your phone unlocked.

if you use face unlock this is what happens, there is a warning about it on the bio metrics screen when you enable it.
turn it off and this goes away.
its a stupid feature for sure and just annoying AF

only if you stop using face unlock

I use smart lock with me frontier, and I don't use face unlock. Only need pin after reboot.

For me, it only asks for my password around once a week (I haven't done anything to modify the feature). It may depend on which biometric authentication you've enabled. I only use fingerprints.

Maybe auto restart is active and phone restarting itself every night so this is why at the mornings you need to enter your password.

Don't set a pin.
I'm more afraid of being accidentally locked out.
Once bitten, twice shy... hardware failures could leave it in the locked state. Got permanently locked of a mobo like that...

You didn't read the thread obviously lol, with only fingerprint enabled of course its not happening to you.

Settings > The search bar > Auto Restart > disable it

Just check if your phone is set to auto restart at night. That could also be the reason for same. I have mine set to restart every night.

You can rule out that explanation by looking in Settings | About Phone | Status | Up Time to see when the phone last rebooted.

if your uing the face unlock feature which is less secure this issue happens it will ask for your pin time to time which is annoying.
disable that and problem goes away

Screen Lock visible pattern question

Hello,
I set my phone up to use the screen lock pattern option but now I cant seem to get rid of it. I was having problems with NoLED and thought the screen lock was interfering with it so I disabled it but even now when I turn my screen off and on it asked for my pattern. I have to put it in but it no longer seems animated.
Obviously this would be a bug and what I need to do to disable the screen lock now?
Whew! You gave me a bit of a scare just now.
I hadn't set a lock pattern yet, so I did to test this for you. Sure enough, I got the same thing as you.
Set a lock pattern, then un-set it by selecting "none" in the Settings/Security/Screen Unlock section. I was still getting the unlock pattern even though it was supposedly non.
I managed to turn it off by going through the set a new pattern process, then setting it to none after confirming the new pattern. Give that a try.
The other thing you might try is to switch it to a pin and see if the pin can be turned off. (I haven't tried that.)
A 4 day NS user and I didn't even know about noled. What a cool idea to fix the annoying no led problem. Thanks for leading me to the app.

Yeah it is, worked well until I added a few more apps. So if you dont have many apps it works well. There must be a conflict somewhere but cant be bothered trying to figure out what other app is affecting it, still might be the phone lock as well. It could also be gingerbread, NoLED might not be updated for it.

Thanks for that, did the same as you and turned it off. NoLED seems to work properly again. Looks like the lock affects NoLED.

[Q] Smart lock battery drain

Can anyone confirm that Smart Lock trusted face feature causes battery drain?
I'd imagine it would use at least some due to the fact it polls the camera to see your face and then runs some sort of algorithm to determine if it's your face or not. Can't comment on how much, though. I imagine that would only happen when you first wake the phone, so I'd assume not that much at all.
It certainly is a drain on my time and enjoyment of using the phone because it is a crapshoot on it working. And I still have to swipe to open the phone even if it does recognize me.
and using as smart lock the BT or WIFI places causes battery drain???
tnx

Have you used the "improve match" feature? I've done it 5 or 6 times with all different types of lighting and now it works pretty much every time. Also, it's not meant to unlock your phone like the old face unlock did. This time around it is just used to bypass the pin or pattern lock, just like a trusted device or place. I actually prefer it this way.

Yes I have, multiple times. It doesn't work in low light of course, because the camera can't pick anything up, it is all black...as you would expect. It doesn't work at non perfect angles, and like I mentioned...in my opinion I much preferred the ability to use being connected to my wifi to disable the lock screen altogether.
Lock screen notifications are fine, but in Kitkat if I wanted them...all I needed to do was dash clock. And more importantly, it was HARDER to accidently clear them because you had to swipe to even see them. In Lollipop, the second your pants accidently turn the power button on...it can clear a notification.
I'm really thinking about going back to Kitkat.

There is no WiFi smart lock. I really wish there was. Only Bluetooth, but the location one definitely is a noticeable drain for me. I'm not sure about the BT battery usage. I finally just disabled pin for now until I can figure it out. I wish they offered WiFi smart lock. That and Bluetooth is what I used in kitkat and had no noticeable drain.

Can be done with tasker if you have root
It could be done in Tasker using Secure Settings however Secure Settings isn't 100% compatible with Lollipop yet. I had this setup so when I was connected to my home WiFi, all I had to do was swipe to unlock. Not connected would prompt me for my pin. Worked 100% and no noticeable drain on battery.

In Secure settings, go to Spanner > Pattern unlock method > Lock Settings (experimental)
Works much better. Only "issue" I have found is first time I turn on the screen after connecting to my wifi, it pormpts for pattern but wont unlock. Turn screen off and on again and its fine,
Last time I tried it with tasker and secure settings I had very mixed results, but I'll hover it a go again and see how it goes. Do you guy's use tasker to unlock with bt also? Or just use smart unlock for bt?
---------- Post added at 06:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:36 AM ----------
I just tried it and it doesn't disable anything. Even just pressing the play button to disable pin. Guess I'll have to wait.
rootSU,
Thanks, I will try that.

I can't talk about PIN. I only use pattern. This works well. PIN, no idea,

You're right pattern lock is working perfect so far. Even with bt smart lock, which I guess I could just add in tasker too. Not sure if either uses less battery...
Anyways, thanks for heads up. Didn't realize pattern lock was under root section and pin wasn't. Maybe that's why it works? Pattern it is for me then [emoji2]

Fingerprint unlock problem

With latest firmware (G930FXXU1APD1-G930FDBT1APC5-DBT) Im having problems when unlocking the device with fingerprint. It does not allow me, but instead I get:
“Enter pin instead of using fingerprint recognition because of security policy”
And I have to use the PIN.
This happens when locking the display with “lock wedged”. If the lock is made with button (power) ... or time out display. Then I can normally use the fingerprint.
Does someone also facing the problem?
Is there any solution – setting?
Best.

Yes i had this and tried to reset my fingerprints when i tried that settings error and closed, then i couldnt change anything, pin, fingerprints, couldnt even factory reset. Cause it always asked for my pin and after i entered it settings would error rebooting didnt help. Finally using android device manager from my pc i had to do an erase. My s7 is stock and it had nothing disable at the time this happen.

there might be extra Policy set on ur device.
go to setting > Security > click on Clear Credentials
+ also check what is ur device administrator
:good:
I had that even on my Nexus 6P when using Nova's double tap to lock feature. I think it's something to do with Marshmallow actually.

Clear credentials is not active.
Device Admin - APP is added.
So the error is still there.

You can try Samsung's Good Lock app from Galaxy Apps store or, if you live outside U.S., from apkmirror.com. It's a System UI update that allows fingerprint unlock with third party locking widgets.
@ avah
This actually works. But ... then I get totally different lock screen display etc... that I actually don’t like.
So ... till now ... no real solution.
Best.
Hay
Question.
Is it possible to flash the phone back to previous ROM version via Odin… and you won’t get Knox void .. or something else??
I'm thinking to go back to previous ROM when lock and fingerprint worked OK.
Best

You can find details on that thread about this problem.
I'm having the same issue and I must say it is very annoying. Can't really see any reason why this should interfere with the security. Should be my choice to be honest. Would be nice to have a solution to this. Looks like it's been an issue for a long time as well. Found some threads about the 6P for example with the same issue.
Try use other app to pass that policy: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luutinhit.doubletapscreenoff

Yes but the problem still remains so it was a good initiative. I've got a brand new S7 and I find this very annoying. If I switch off my screen with Nova, I have to use fingerprint+PIN Code to unlock. If I switch it with physical buttons, I only have to use fingerprints..
Fixed
Search 4 knock on app on playstore.
Instal
Tap on create icon. Turn off the rest options
Fixed by installing a third party screen locker.

I just found a problem with Unlocking the Razer Phone

Isn't there another setting for unlocking it automatically if you turn on the screen within x seconds after locking? Post it on Razerzone.com in the insider community section, a csr rep will see it.

Did you check your Smart Lock settings (in Security)? That's usually the culprit. Make sure On-body detection, Trusted places, Trusted devices are disabled, then try again and let us know

I haven't even touched the smart unlock but on body detection is on if you put your phone down on a table and double tap the screen it still does it
Sorry, so when all of them are off it still won't lock?
I usually find on-body detection very unreliable anyway. I personally wouldn't recommend keeping that on.

Have you timed it and see how long it takes to lock by itself? Is it still doing it?
I would probably get ahold of a csr too, it is a fairly significant bug(if that's what it is) though I can't say I've seen any other reports in all the reviews...
I usually find on -body detection very pain full anyway. But i'm also not sure also little confuse.

Unlock on wrist option vanished?

Hey all,
There was an option to keep the watch unlocked when it was the wrist but I can't find it anymore and it is annoying to have to manually unlock all the time.
Did this option vanish for all people? I guess it was taken away in the last update.
I am on version
March security patch / Wear 1.5

Not sure about a specific option, but mine doesn't do that. Maybe because I enabled always on display. That's under developer options.

I have always on option under display settings then under gestures tilt to wake, touch to wake, wrist gestures.
You can also change settings in Wear OS on phone

It's not tilt to wake or gestures that is now removed from the software, it's about the unlock.
There was an option to keep the watch unlocked when it was on the wrist so that the pin only needed to be input when you were not wearing / removed from arm and no heartrate detected.

This is crazy, now my watch asks for PIN even after 15mins since I used it. Can't use it normally
Seems that I need to ask Amazon for refund if this will work lie this.
The pin can be turned off but then it leaves the watch open if you lose it. In my case I find it accidentally does stuff while I am asleep or my daughter messes it up.

i have found that disabling the PIN also disables Google Pay. and even after re-enabling it, you have to set it up all over again.
from my understanding, the watch knows when it is on your wrist, so maybe you need to tighten the strap or check the heart rate monitor to always on.

Hmm, maybe when enabled Google Pay it removed the option.
I'll try disabling google pay and see if the option comes back - I can't use it in Germany anyway, I only want to use GPay when I am back in UK.
