Screen Lock visible pattern question - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I set my phone up to use the screen lock pattern option but now I cant seem to get rid of it. I was having problems with NoLED and thought the screen lock was interfering with it so I disabled it but even now when I turn my screen off and on it asked for my pattern. I have to put it in but it no longer seems animated.
Obviously this would be a bug and what I need to do to disable the screen lock now?

Whew! You gave me a bit of a scare just now.
I hadn't set a lock pattern yet, so I did to test this for you. Sure enough, I got the same thing as you.
Set a lock pattern, then un-set it by selecting "none" in the Settings/Security/Screen Unlock section. I was still getting the unlock pattern even though it was supposedly non.
I managed to turn it off by going through the set a new pattern process, then setting it to none after confirming the new pattern. Give that a try.
The other thing you might try is to switch it to a pin and see if the pin can be turned off. (I haven't tried that.)

A 4 day NS user and I didn't even know about noled. What a cool idea to fix the annoying no led problem. Thanks for leading me to the app.

Yeah it is, worked well until I added a few more apps. So if you dont have many apps it works well. There must be a conflict somewhere but cant be bothered trying to figure out what other app is affecting it, still might be the phone lock as well. It could also be gingerbread, NoLED might not be updated for it.

Thanks for that, did the same as you and turned it off. NoLED seems to work properly again. Looks like the lock affects NoLED.

replace swipe unlock with unlock pattern?

hey guys,
any of you found an app to replace the swipe unlock for the unlock pattern, rather than having both?
not urgent as this is the best phone I've ever had, but would be a nice touch.

You're right... but it's such a shame don't you think... really no need for the swipe, if you have the pattern....
I thought that was the case...
May look into how hard it will be to create an app to do it
The swipe unlock can be replaced with iphone/hero/donut/eclair style unlocking using the lockbot app. So I think an app should be able to solve this (However I'm not capable of making suck apps).
there is a free app called "No Lock" which simply disables the lock screen apparently. If you have the pattern lock underneath this then i guess you would just get that.
i haven't tried this, but just came across it by accident and it reminded me of this thread
Thanks for that, but no luck
It disables both the lock and the unlock screens (if that makes sense)
It is quite handy if you are at home and have the phone on a table and having a text conversation where you keep turning the screen on and off, but not quite what I wanted
I wonder if this is something that could be built on top of to give us what we want, I will email the Dev of this app and see what they say about it.
I will update when I know more
Right then guys, I have had a response from BoD
I sent them this:
Good afternoon,
I have downloaded the no lock app for android. It is great app, however, there are quite a few users of android who would like to see an app that would remove the lock screen but keep the pattern unlock screen or pin screen etc. Im hoping you are open to suggestions, and as you have created the app to remove the lock screens completely (which is pretty much halfway there), I was wondering if you were thinking of creating an app capable of this?
If you are and would like beta testers, I'm sure i could get a few volenteers together to do so.
Thanks,
To which they responded (very quickly too):
Hi!
Unfortunately there is no way (that I know of) to do that currently.
I hope you'll enjoy the app anyway.
Have a nice day,
So.... It looks like they are not aware of how this can be done, IF it can be done, which is a shame.
Thanks sungrad for pointing the app out though
no probs sorry it wasn't much use
it exists in the security settings in the phone (pattern lock ) just enable it

I have the pattern unlock enabled.
The problem is that to unlock my phone now I have the swipe (with the triangle and the curve) and the pattern unlock. I want the pattern unlock to replace the swipe unlock, rather than be requested as well as the swipe unlock.
It's only a minor issue I have, but it does get annoying when you are using it a lot (text conversation etc)

it is really annoying but i have an idea the application mananger if we could know its name we could deactivate it like what they do with htc devices they deactivated htc sense
nobody has a solution for that?
Not exactly what you're after but there are widgets that toggle the unlock pattern off/on. You could toggle the unlock pattern off when texting so you only have to do the swipe. SwitchPro Widget has this feature but I haven't tested it with X10.
EDIT: Found this. It may be what you're after http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.brandongoodman.smartlock
Bump? I just wonder if anyone found a solution to this? I would really want what the OP states
just wanted to add... be careful with the "pattern lock" ... it literally disables your phone after 5 wrong pattern tries. I nearly did a system wipe just to unlock it.. Luckily for me it accepted my email account with "null" for password to re-enable it
I had that no lock app and it looked nice and handy but it messed with the pattern and slide default unlock when I went to uninstall, all I wanted was the pattern but no matter what way I set it,the swipe unlock would always be there, after loads of reboots and setting/unsetting a lock pattern it still did`nt work, this is after I uninstalled, after I dont know how many reboots even when I had the pattern enabled the swipe would come up first then the pattern, sometime only the swipe, it worked itself out, so be cautious of it....

[Question]WidgetLocker

I was trying a great lock widget WigdetLocker lately on my evo froyo. But I noticed one thing I dont really like, hope it's just me not how to setup correctly, hope you guys can help me out.
I realized the app i was on before lock, it's gone after unlocking. For example, I was commenting some friends status on facebook, maybe have to leave for a min, then widget locked my screen, then i came back, and unlock the phone. it just leaded me back to home screen. it's really different from what i used to before i installed widget. I mean, unlock the phone, sense just directly backed to the app before phone locked.
So it's just me, who didnt setup correctly, or it's some con the widget has for current widget. Anyone can provide some help please?

I checked, there is no something i can set there to fix my problem.
I didnt say something wrong with screen timeout. The problem I have now is that when I unlock the phone(under widgetlocker), it cannot bring me back to the screen i was before i locked phone, or phone automatically locked.
i also have widgetlocker running on my evo and it takes me back to whatever app i was in before the the screen turned off. that is how it worked for me right away, i didnt have to change any settings to get it like that. if i were you i would try uninstalling the app then installing it again and seeing if it performs properly after that
I tried uninstalling this program but the skull unlock screen is still on my phone.. how can i get it back to the factory unlock screen.
UPDATE...
SILLY ME... it was a different app

Do you use your lock screen?

Just curious, how many of you guys use the lock screen? I for one, since the day I bought my inspire, disabled the lock screen. I simply have no use for it.
How about you guys?
I use the app "No Lock", works perfect for me.....
Bounce between Widgetlocker and the Sense 3.0 lockscreen. She lives in my pocket and needs to be restrained when I'm not paying attention to her. Touchscreen & all that.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side.
I bounce around with mine. Sometimes I like it, sometimes not. But I same as you use no lock to rid myself of it. Most times I don't feel i need a second screen to go through just to get to my apps and stuff
I have the rotary unlock and a PIN after that. I figure that with my phone rooted someone who doesn't know what they're doing messing with settings could really cause problems and some apps have my credit card info so i like to have it locked, it's pretty quick to unlock.
Disabled it the hour I got it and never looked back...
I use Executive Assistant as the lockscreen and disable the regular one
I never use stock 2.2 sense lock, only 3.0. I like widgetlocker, but I'm running cm7, so i use default on the lens setting. looks great.

I love it. I use the sliding tab lockscreen with the four tabs. I use it quite often.
I definitely use mine (Widgetlocker). I place everything I might want/need to see on it. Currently I have an icon for the app Screen Off and Lock, and the following widgets: Watchdog, CurrentWidget, SetCPU, Next Alarm, and MissedIt (unread counts). I disabled interactions for everything except the icon for Screen Off and Lock (I set the timeout for the lockscreen to be 30 seconds, giving me plenty of time to look at my device information. I use the Screen Off app to turn it off as soon as I'm done).

[Q] Missed call unlocks screen

Hi, I searched the forum but had no luck:
Completely new Nexus 5, White 16GB, and I have this issue:
When i receive and miss a call, as soon as the ringer stops the phone automatically shows the unlocked homescreen and it just stays there, instead of locking itself normally. This is really weird, and happens even if the phone is in my pocket (so it's not sensor-related like whatsapp pop-ups for example). Also not really safe i'd say. If I select another lockscreen method, it behaves normally (showing, for example, unlock pattern for a certain amount of time before turning the monitor off again.)
Anyone experiencing the same issue?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1q04f7/nexus_5_unlocks_itself_after_a_missed_call/
This is the only other reporting I found on the web. Can anyone test this? It's really fast and easy, and I think this could be a pretty serious issue.
My phone (pin locked) doesn't do that. Phone stays locked. Is your phone kept unlocked?

Yes. I don't really like the pin/passcode unlock (also don't really need it). Classic slide is simple and fast enough, but it's crazy that it stays unlocked after a missed call.
Also, I noticed that it automatically enters the last application that was open the last time you locked it, creating even more concerns (last online on messaging applications, online status in facebook, ecc.)
Just imagine you boss calling you, with no luck, and founding out a second later you're online in Facebook. Just because you were ignoring your phone, while driving for example.

I agree - that should not be the expected behavior
nexus5 32gb here, exactly the same behavior.. I had to enable a pin/password unlock method because every missed call would unlock my phone, even in my pocket..
I have the same issue.
Maybe it is because of the app Light Flow Lite ?

I thought this as well, but then I tried it on my friends N5 and had the same behavior, without light flow. I think many of us actually discovered this trying notifications in Light Flow (i bought the pro version) but it's not related to that.

Me too, but I hate it because I can't swipe down from the top to quickly see my notification without unlocking the device first.
Let me know if you guys have any advice on this issue, also report it in this thread to keep it bumped and see if anyone is reporting any solution.

exactly this, it was so useful to just throw a glance to the notifications to decide if open them or simply clean them away

Nice one, I have posted in that discussion as well. Hopefully we will get a response.
Others have the same problem, do you know how to report a problem to google ?
I just tried it on my phone, called from my desk number, missed call. It did open the phone all the way, but the screen turned back off in 5 seconds, per my settings.
My phones is currently stock, have not rooted or unlocked the bootloader yet. Only UI modification apps are Widgetzoid and Dashclock, I wanted to stay stock for a bit.
Sorry, that you are having issues. Unfortunately sometimes the easiest way to figure out what is causing the problems is to do a factory reset, and re-dowload your apps one by one, to see what is causing the problem.
Ok, but a several people have the same issue ...
Anyway, I think I will tri not to miss a call whenever the phone is in my pocket !

I don't like setting the screen timeout so short, many thimes i just place the phone on my desk while messaging and I want the screen to stay on, for at least 2 minutes.
And when I lock my phone to keep it in my pocket, it's supposed to stay locked and ignore any unintended touches as soon as i slide to unlock, which was originally introduced to prevent an unlock by accident. Yes, I could lower my screen timeout to 5 seconds, but that does not solve the problem because still unintended touches can occur in that time frame.

I wasn't sing o set your screen lock time to what I have it set at, I was just saying that it did re-lock. However, you are right, IMO it should not completely unlock the screen when the phone is ringing.
Though I have never not had a passcode on my phone, so not sure if that is how it always behaves. Was just trying to test and be helpful.
I sent a message to the google team, let's wait and see.

Thanks for testing, I was wondering if this could have been related to root / unlocked bootloader somehow but you have confirmed this is not the case as it happens on a totally stock phone.
good catch there. same issue here.
at least a Google employee has responded to the topic created HERE. Maybe that will expedite then pushing out an update ASAP.

[Q] Smart lock battery drain

Can anyone confirm that Smart Lock trusted face feature causes battery drain?
I'd imagine it would use at least some due to the fact it polls the camera to see your face and then runs some sort of algorithm to determine if it's your face or not. Can't comment on how much, though. I imagine that would only happen when you first wake the phone, so I'd assume not that much at all.
It certainly is a drain on my time and enjoyment of using the phone because it is a crapshoot on it working. And I still have to swipe to open the phone even if it does recognize me.
and using as smart lock the BT or WIFI places causes battery drain???
tnx

Have you used the "improve match" feature? I've done it 5 or 6 times with all different types of lighting and now it works pretty much every time. Also, it's not meant to unlock your phone like the old face unlock did. This time around it is just used to bypass the pin or pattern lock, just like a trusted device or place. I actually prefer it this way.

Yes I have, multiple times. It doesn't work in low light of course, because the camera can't pick anything up, it is all black...as you would expect. It doesn't work at non perfect angles, and like I mentioned...in my opinion I much preferred the ability to use being connected to my wifi to disable the lock screen altogether.
Lock screen notifications are fine, but in Kitkat if I wanted them...all I needed to do was dash clock. And more importantly, it was HARDER to accidently clear them because you had to swipe to even see them. In Lollipop, the second your pants accidently turn the power button on...it can clear a notification.
I'm really thinking about going back to Kitkat.

There is no WiFi smart lock. I really wish there was. Only Bluetooth, but the location one definitely is a noticeable drain for me. I'm not sure about the BT battery usage. I finally just disabled pin for now until I can figure it out. I wish they offered WiFi smart lock. That and Bluetooth is what I used in kitkat and had no noticeable drain.

Can be done with tasker if you have root
It could be done in Tasker using Secure Settings however Secure Settings isn't 100% compatible with Lollipop yet. I had this setup so when I was connected to my home WiFi, all I had to do was swipe to unlock. Not connected would prompt me for my pin. Worked 100% and no noticeable drain on battery.

In Secure settings, go to Spanner > Pattern unlock method > Lock Settings (experimental)
Works much better. Only "issue" I have found is first time I turn on the screen after connecting to my wifi, it pormpts for pattern but wont unlock. Turn screen off and on again and its fine,
Last time I tried it with tasker and secure settings I had very mixed results, but I'll hover it a go again and see how it goes. Do you guy's use tasker to unlock with bt also? Or just use smart unlock for bt?

I just tried it and it doesn't disable anything. Even just pressing the play button to disable pin. Guess I'll have to wait.

You're right pattern lock is working perfect so far. Even with bt smart lock, which I guess I could just add in tasker too. Not sure if either uses less battery...
Anyways, thanks for heads up. Didn't realize pattern lock was under root section and pin wasn't. Maybe that's why it works? Pattern it is for me then [emoji2]
