Hi everyone I am starting this thread as i am at war with samsung after being pissed off by the quality of their devices. I bought a Note 10.1 over ipad 3 though both cost approximately the same since i preferred the spen for my day to day tasks. By profession i am a systems designer and i draw a lot of data flow and other diagrams. So i thought the spen will be a good investment. After 2 days of using the note 10.1 i noticed that my gestures were not being tracked properly in the area just below the front facing camera. I initiated a thread in the qa forum here and came to know that another person was also facing the same issue.
Actually it might be there in other note 10.1s as well only might have escaped your discovery.
I also noticed that my device was made in vietnam, and i started to think whether the entire S2 episode didnt enforce stricter quality control at the vietnam facility. I took my device to the service center and they offered a replacement. On recieving the replacement i noticed it was also made in vietnam. On further inspection i noticed the replacement handset's blue colours were more whitish and not as crisp as the blues on my previous handset. I also noticed that the loudspeaker output was a little less. On bringing the above pohints to their notice they bluntly replied that those were differences in perception and cannot be considered as deffects. Anyways understanding that in India quality system is not as stringent as in US i reluctantly accepted the replacement as the spen was working fine. Just after a day of use the replacement handset also started giving the same spen issues.
Now my points :
1. Display difference
I told the technical rep about apple and asus and how they had handled similar issues. How is samsung expecting to compete with a brand who guarantee that their products are of the same quality irrespective of their place of origin or purchase. And its not that the samsung products are much cheaper than apple these days.I could have easily bought a ipad 3 for 40k INR than spending 37k on this device. Is samsung's quality assurance like this across the globe or is it in India only?
2. Made in Vietnam
When i told them about the made in vietnam fiasco of S2 they agreed that it was there. So how come another top of line device is being manufactured there? Or is it that it now caters to nations with les stringent quality standard? I had seen a poll in xda about origin of the devices and most of the us users had reported made in china or korea. They wanted documented proof so i told about the xda threads.
I am holding a high level meeting with the honchos at samsung india and i want to be prepared with all documentation to substantiate my points. Request all xda members and owners of samsung devices particularlyNote 10.1 to update the thread with their observations, issues, concerns etc mentioning the device and place of make.
This is our time especially with the aggression dispalyed by samsung to take on apple.
Its time they understand that it takes more on quality than quantity to take on the market.
I had trusted samsung yet again after a harrowing experience with the wave 1 thinking their competition with apple would have improved their standards but alas.
They need to understand that quality statements should hold good irrespective of countries. They should understand it should be one brand one standard.
Looking forward to your thoughts and inputs.
Thanks
The Note is my fifth Samsung device. I've owned HTC, LG, and Motorola Android devices too. In comparing them and being on their respective forums on XDA the Samsung devices have had far fewer build and QC issues than the others. I've never had a Samsung device not built in Korea or China so maybe the Vietnam thing is a specific issue. Good luck with your crusade even though I'm not quite sure what you're trying to accomplish and for who.
I'm not clear on how y9u know it was made in Vietnam... I've never seen one that wasn't stamped as Korea made...
That being said I have a white 16, and just received the upgraded 32 (only comes in blue).
What bugs me though is that the 32 gig screen has a yellow tint to it. It seems to make the colors look a little richer but it's not as bright as the white one...
That being said the white one is brighter but colors can look washed out at times.
I don't know if I should order another 32 gig to see if this one has a bad display, or if the white one had the bad display...
I also noticed the app 'phone info' reports the 32 gig battery is pushing a higher voltage often 200mv more.

Thanks for your reply.
Since you are based out of US the world of dual standards will be a totally unventured one for you.
Companies take advantage of slack quality norms in India to sell their sub standard products at same or higher prices.
For example if i was in US i could have purchased it for a little more than 500 USD as i have the 3G version here in India.
So that translates to a INR value of around 25K.
But inspite of paying a higher premium of 37K in INR which is equivalent to 740 USD we get sub par quality.
I used to think that companies do this to maintain profit margins as taxation is not in their hands.
But Apple has shown that companies can maintain quality if they want to.
Ipad 3 retails for 40K INR in India which is approx 800 USD but they maintain their quality standards and service level promises.
I was a hardened Apple hater because of their prices and software rigidity.
But their quality policy has really left me no choice but to be impressed.
Samsung has a huge user base in India but they have taken all of them for granted.
Now to answer your point of what i am trying to achieve:
I am trying to make Samsung understand that though i am from India i wont settle for a product with functionality and quality which is not at par with devices shipped to US or other countries.
My money is as dear to me as money to users from US and other parts of the world and i want every pennys' worth from the product.

Thanks for the reply.I understand that you have never seen a Samsung box which is not marked as made in Vietnam since you must be based out of US.
They refrain from sending made in Vietnam products to US as those will get badly lambasted by the strict QC department and agressive customers.
Please be sure to check the spen sensitivity in the area below the front camera in potrait mode.
I will upload a picture of the original tablet and the replacements' box with the Made in Vietnam marking.
I have also seen loads of Made in Vietnam S3s coming into the service center during my trips.
Thats why i have started this thread.
Its a gross abuse of a customer base.

Do you know this for a fact? All the components are the same or Indian ROM's wouldn't be usable on non-Indian devices and vice versa. The JB leak was an Indian version which doesn't make sense if you guys are so taken advantage of and abused. From a pricing stand point I know what you're saying is true. Samsung has one distributor in Israel and prices there are 25% higher adjusted for currency than the EU. They also make sure that only Israeli shipped ROM's support the Samsung Hebrew keyboard and have had XDA remove custom ROMs that have included it. Sadly, India's probably treated the same way and you're not going to get much sympathy from Samsung because it's operating the way they've designed it.

Its not only me every indian knows that the standards of good shipped to india by international brands are way low.
Let alone electronics.
I had a pair of adida supernova sequence shoes purchased from US and i was so impressed i bought another pair in India and guess what the pasting came off within a month or so!
Component can be same but it depends on the fabrication facility how stictly they have controlled the quality of the component.
There is already know issues with the Vientnam facility.
Thats why i have never heard anyone is US getting a Made in Vietnam Samsung product as the company would get thrashed by the strict QC policies of the US.
Its not that the functionality was designed like this it that the quality control of the manufacturing process at the Vietnam facility is pathetic.

im from pakistan dude. so conditions in pak and india are not that different. i have like 3 of my friends who have this note 10.1. i also own a note 10.1 3G version. blue color. all 4 of our friend's notes are made in vietnam and would u believe, all of our 4 notes have slightly different colors. just a little tint difference. i am a sam boy. i have all of my electronics made by samsung. i also have an S3. the issue with the S3 is that the volume rockers get jammed in when pressed. the screen has light bleeding from inside. the super amoled panel of the phone has like 7 visible ink spots.....i have replace 3 S3. means the one that i have now is my 3rd S3! all the previous had the same issues.
this Note 10.1 has really really disappointed me a lot! the volume rockers also get pressed inside when pressed. the color is very very dark blue its like f--ing blue.... not greyish blue... it has light bleeding issues on the top end. now that samsung has announced the nexus 10 i would sell my note 10.1 and get the nexus 10. i have already sold my S3 for PAK Rs 16k loss.... i had used S3 for only 3 weeks. i got that for 56k and sold for 40k.
my suggestion for u is to sell the note 10.1 as soon as possible cause when nexus 10 would be released the price of note 10.1 would drop and YEAH FORGET THAT SAMMY WOULD UPDATE NOTE 10.1 TO JELLY BEAN OFFICIALLY BEFORE NEXT YEAR.....
Ok I also bought this in India and mine is manufactured in Korea, mine though is the grey color one and I have had no issues with the tablet as far as the pricing is concerned please forget the pricing of US they will always be lower even the Nexus 7 which was for 199 in US was around 15k in Singapore. Also please remember the US version does not have sim card which again makes a difference in cost. I am not sure but I think UK version has sim card can anyone be kind enough to post the costing.
Again even Apple has had quality issues with their trademark product Iphone earlier with the antenna now with some of the pieces being scratched so no one is perfect I know Samsung has policy of DOA if a device is reported to them within i think 7 days for any mechanical fault and it is replaced with a new one without questions asked. I had done that with one of my cell phone.
I got my galaxy for 34200 around a month back I do not know what price you paid but when I look at the screenshot you have posted my model number is totally different with yours may be yours is white that why.
Anyways even Apple is maufactured in China so does that make it an inferior device no so how does a device from vietnam makes inferior and Samsung is the leading phone manufacturer in the world and hence it will have different production units spread across. Again may be its one of case and you should get it replaced
I'm tired of the number of people motivating others to sell the note 10.1 in favor of nexus 10, this negative attitude irritates allot of people, if you have a problem with your note just sell it or get it replaced. But whenever I enter the general forum I see threads started every day complaining about note and motivating others to sell it , it is not our business that you hate your tab and you are going to sell it and I think the general discussion forum isn't intended to make people hate their devices and sell it
Sent from my X10S using xda app-developers app
I agree there is a lot of discussion related to either nexus 10 or W8 or people hating the tablet i agree with you if they want to switch to another tablet please go ahead and start posting your reviews over there. No one is a kid over here people can make their own choices.
I would also request all those who say they are facing issues can they post an image or video to show us, some of us who are geniunely intrested in finding a solution do that but there are some who just want to critisize and for me until they proof what they are saying they are just bunch of liers I am going to start ignoring

I have a slightly less sensitive area about 1 inch to the left of the camera. The spot itself is about 1/2 long and 1/8 in deep.
Frankly what bothers me more is the yellow hue of the screen. Went to exchange it at best buy and they tell me they will not longer carry the 32 gig model?is this because of quality issues I wonder?

Sorry for the late reply, could not reply earlier as i was travelling.
For everyone's benefit i have uploaded a video i took of the issue on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ccsh8X2JyGg
Please refer to the video above and also incase you notice differences or anomalies with your note 10.1 , i suggest you take it up with Samsung.
I believe that you should get full value for your investment made in the product.
For all other people who thought i was some sort of Apple marketing exec or trolling the forums.
Please check the video and that should answer your queries.

Mate, did that test with mine and had NO dead spots... I'd take that back to the shop you bought it from as that is ridiculous... I did one better than you though, I tested the entire screen from outside all the way in. As I said, no problems. That looks like a warranty job to me...

Thanks for your time for checking and reverting.
I know its a manufacturing defect and detected the same issue in 3 replacement units.
The only common factor in all of them was that they were made in Vietnam.
I have submitted a refund claim , as i am totally pissed with their quality control.
It for the benefit of other people who might still be in the dark that they actually dont have a fully functional product.
We need to take issues up like this straight to the companies as they take us for granted.
You know what the samsung rep told me when i told them about the different colour saturations and quality of reproduction between the replacement tablets?
"That cannot be taken as a defect as its a difference in perception"
This is a level of quality control atleast by Samsung India.
Looking forward to others' feedback.
ok my tab is very good quality but when i touch the pen when i didnt use it , it make a sound , and i have light bleed in the lower left corner behind home button but it didnt bother me
I don't think your Made in Vietnam theory is necessarily valid. I just bought mine today (I'm in Kenya and it's made in Vietnam) and I'm extremely happy with it. I watched your video and my entire screen is perfect. No pen hassles at all.

The less sensivity near the camera is I think more an issue with some interferance from an internal part like the camera or may be some wireless transmitter is present over there

Yes you are right. The wifi module resides in that area. The weird part is the sensitivity was ok when i opened the box and till the time i didnt switch on wifi. The moment i started using wifi i noticed that area on the screen getting warm and the sensitivity issues popped up.
It was the same for all the replacements.
Ideally there should some kind of em shield to enable wifi operation without obstructing the magnetic digitizers.
Thats why i am so pissed at samsung's QC.
I had come across a mail to CEO link in the samsung website, out of curiosity i had fired a mail from the link stating the situation i was in.
To my surprise i got the below reply:
Dear Mr. Ghosh,
Samsung Namaskar!
We thank you for contacting CEO’s office and for giving us a chance to assist you.
In reference to your mail regarding the Samsung Handset, we would like to inform you that we do a quality testing and quality checks before bringing the product into the market. However there may be a case in which Handset may have some minor problem and for that Samsung provides a year warranty.
Our main focus is on the quality of the product that we launch in the market. However we have acknowledged & accepted the feedback given by you.
Please be advised that your feedback/suggestions are important to us and are being reviewed carefully.
Thanking and assuring you for best services always.
With warm regards,
CEO’s Office
Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd.
I am not sure as to what the person's capacity is who drafted the response, but he has used the CEO's office signature.
It seems samsung is more concerned about the quality of a product before launching it into market and has not stated anything in the reply which talks about quality control in day to day production lines.
The reply goes to extent of mentioning the warranty provided.
I always thought that any reputed company's target should be that customer need not invoke the warranty of their products.
Its also noteworthy that in the reply the defects , which included the difference in colour reproduction, and volume levels from the external speaker and the spen issue i had discussed earlier, are referred to as minor defects.
It seems Samsung India atleast doesnt bother about their customer losing their time and trust as they run around with their samsung products to get them fixed by invoking warranty.
My point is the Note 10.1's USP was buisness productivity and rather than ensuring that the company is saying, "oh well there is a defect and we dont care if you gotta miss a meeting or draw schematics on paper , if you want the product to work you need to run around our service centers as we gave you a 1 year warranty!!!!"
I am looking forward to your views on this.
Correct if I'm wrong but I don't see V10 review videos from the top two YouTube reviewers with well over one million subscribers each. I know they reviewed LG's previous phones like the G4. You would think with the aggresive LG promotional offer that these two reviewers would have had an interest in informing the public that LG were throwing everything and the kitchen sink behind their first V series phone, both in terms of features that touch on many of their favorite topics like audio (32 bit DAC) and photo (full manual controls on video) and the unique second screen feature as well as the marketing. Was there ever another flagship phone that gave away $250+ in accessories? I can't think of one. This phone and it's launch has more than enough to distinguish it from most other phones in the flagship category. It sounds like there is either some politics or payola going on. There's no way they aren't aware of this phone and it's unique position as the last combination of SD card and removable battery.
Again apologies if I missed their reviews of the V10 but I subscribe to both and didn't notice a notification for the V10.

I don't have anything particularly noteworthy to add, other than the fact that my impression is also that the V10 has been a little (oddly) overlooked in the press and media. At least compared to other phones like the Note 5 and S6 models that pretty much every site and reviewer covered ad nauseam. I also noticed Mobile Tech Review didn't touch the V10, that's usually the first Youtube review I hit.
It's strange considering not only the promotion, but the fact that the phone has no glaring flaws, excellent specs with a lower than average price (with T-Mobile at least) and includes 2 things many are still demanding in a phone - a removable battery and SD expansion. LG deserves extra respect and acknowledgement for not trying to nickle & dime the customer with ridiculous storage upcharges. Not sure about conspiracies, but considering that most "reviewers" are beholden to manufacturers for review units, it wouldn't surprise me. The only reviewers I really trust anymore anyway are MTR, Erica Griffin, and Max Lee. I noticed Erica posted some video taken with the V10, so I would assume she has a review coming soon.
Pocketnow just posted their review for the v10.. Seemed like they do not like the v10 too.. Its a shame that reviers are butt licking Samsung and Apple phones these days.. You are absolutely right on Erica Griffin and max Lee being the most informative goutebers.. Max Lee already released like 5 videos on the v10!

I guess this begs the question are the bigger reviewers paid to do their reviews? Even if they have to pay for their own review phones wouldn't it be penny wise but pound foolish to pass up all the views and new subscribers by doing another flafship? As a top reviewer your subscribers expect you to weigh in on all the flagships phones. I even recall MKBHD doing an Amazon Fire phone video even though he didn't have the phone and He told everyone not to buy it! I guess he was mad they didn't include him on the list of people to demo the phone pre-release. It seems the same thing has happened here.
I'm actually dumbfounded that MKBHD hasn't given any LG V10 love he seemed to live the G4 iirc. I've been waiting for his video on it then bam Black Berry Priv... Okay... Awkward...
The phone just came out what, a few weeks ago right? Marques usually takes at least 2 weeks to get around to a new device and when he does he'll take several days of using it as a daily runner before putting together a video. Yes, I'll admit I checked earlier myself to see if he'd done one yet on the V10 and I know he will, it's just going to take some time.
I figure within another 2 weeks we'll see a review on his YouTube channel and I look forward to it.
Realize that he made a video recently that gets the point across that we don't compare new smartphones on what's new anymore or what's better - the comparisons are pretty much "Ok, thanks for tuning in and viewing, here's what's wrong with this device..." and that's about it.
While I do like his videos for the information they provide, I also find the video reviews by Lisa at MobileTechReview to be very well done too. Those are pretty my go-to channels on YouTube when I'm interested in getting opinions of hands on usage overall.

MKBHD usually does a quick preview video and then a longer full review. He's done neither.
The more I think about it, the more I think LG decided to carefully select which reviewers they wanted to get first crack a preview model. I think they picked Max Lee because he's a big advocate of consumers being able to use SD cards and change their own batteries. We all know that blocking those two things is just a transparent attempt by Samsung, Apple, etc. to shorten the shelf life of phones so that you're buying a new phone every year and half. And to fleece us out money by marking up the price for storage even when its gotten to be really inexpensive. Apple are the most flagrant abusers of this, $650 only get you 16GB in the year 2015. Ridiculous!
Max was very critical about Samsung dropping these deal-breaker features for many former Samsung, and now LG V10, customers. LG must have picked up on that and made sure he received a demo unit. He's become my #1 reviewer. I like to Erica Griffin as well, she does a great job of checking for color accuracy on displays. Jaime from Pocket Now and Armando Ferreira are my two other favorites.
Speaking of reviews, which independent reviewers do you guys recommend, or trust the most? By "independent" I mean review products using their own money, not getting anything from the manufactures. I feel like using a device provided by the manufactures could more or less affect their opinions toward the product.

That's ericas newest post on g+. Its safe to say she is very fond of the phone.
I tend to buy phones on my impressions and desires. I was unimpressed by the G4 and I'm glad the V10 came out of nowhere. My only complaint is that they could have came up with LED style app for the second screen, but I'm sure with time a Xposed module will come out for it similar to the ones that have been made for Samsung phones.

It did feel slightly like a pity review as many are probably asking him about the phone.
I bet you MKBHD did his review a little later because dbrand didn't send him a phone. Probably the same reason why UnboxTherapy hasn't done one yet too.
dbrand even tweeted this out: Can people stop saying the LG V10 has a "second screen"? That pathetic bar at the top is not a "second screen".
Obviously, they got something against the V10... So maybe they didn't send MKHBD or UT the phones.
*edit*
Also how could Marques not mention the DAC?!

That was part of the reason it felt a little forced quick style review. A lot of factors could come to play though.

Sounds like this 'dbrand' person is a bit of a boob considering that yes, the second screen is "a second screen" with dedicated circuitry which is discrete from the main display situated below it. It ain't much in terms of size but it is indeed a second screen in the device itself.
As for someone sending phones, from my understanding MKBHD buys his phones directly and never gets them for free just to do a review - he's always maintained that stance so that people won't have issues with the reviews whether they're favorable or not, and considering how many views he gets on his YouTube channel, he's most certainly making some income from it. That Red Dragon camera he uses to film his videos didn't come cheap and it sure as hell wasn't free either, so I have no reason to doubt that he does indeed purchase all the devices he does reviews on or even mentions.
If he doesn't well, that would just make him a scumbucket human being then wouldn't it?
I find it very unusual that he MKBHD calls the V10 underrated. I think you have to even know it exists in the first place to call it underrated. I have yet to meet a single person in my daily life who knew what the V10 was or had any idea it was coming out. But overall, I think that his reason for not doing a full review by now was flat out weird. "Better late than never?". That's not a really high standard for a guy with 3 million subscribers. I absolutely mystified why he hasn't done one of his 30 minute reviews given what he a fan he is of audio and video, the ability to customize the skin making Nova Launcher unnecessary, just so many features that are packed into one device for 64GB standard.
Oddly enough I was driving my car Sunday evening and a radio commercial came on for the V10 announcing the 64GB free SD card and free battery/cradle. That has to be the first time I have ever heard a radio commercial for a tablet or phone. It seems pretty clear to me that LG are not on Apple or Samsung's level yet on being able to mount a flagship phone marketing campaign. But who cares we should support them simply because they gave us SD card and removable battery. And giving us all a 200GB card, that's about the complete opposite of what Apple and Samsung do for their customers, which is basically to nickel and dime them.
dbrand aka douche brand can be childish and annoying sometimes.
lol @ the second screen not being a "second screen". is an extended display better?
I am thinking about getting a oneplus one but saw very negative reviews on cnet http://www.cnet.com/products/oneplus-one/user-reviews/
However most of those reviewers seem to have registered just to leave a negative rating (oneplus 2 and x too). So are they all paid trolls? Have you experienced something like that?
From my personal experience, it can be very hard to make them pay heed to your words, but it all worked out for me. I bought a OnePlus one back when it needed to have an invite. I got the very infamous touchscreen bug. I reached out to them and there was some communication but nothing fruitful. Then I left a hate comment on their facebook page and they reached out to me. I got my phone replaced, which was fairly an easy process. I got the idea of the hate comment from a YouTube video by Android Darling.
If you are worried about warranty/ customer service by another phone

I think this is allready known by people that look further then a Samsung phone and tech insiders. Some marketing by Honor wouldn`t hurt though to further the brand`s name and let the general public get to know Honor.
The most attractive thing is the look of the phone.
Many people use iphone to show off others.
If we get most attractive look to show off, who will miss it? Especially the Saffire blue color is of top notch.

I think its one of the best when It comes to Price to Quality Ratio, my brother is enjoying his Honor 8 alot and its a good package overall given its Price
This model is very good indeed. The only thing preventing it from getting a bigger acceptance is price: it´s too close to OP3 and Axon7 with better SOC´s (single thread and GPU), 4K screen and recording, OIS, sound, etc.
If Huawei manages to bring H8 down to 350€/£310 or lower, to what H7 was at time of launch, then it will make an absolute no-brainer. Until then there will be articles like "Honor 8, flagship killer?" because being in the same price range of mentioned flagship killers.
Honor 8 should be positioned as an upper middle class device as the specs indicate.

Every market is price sensitive for various reasons. But I guess Huawei will ride the novelty factor and make as much money as they can with H8.
When the novelty goes, in a couple of months we shall see either discount coupons or bundle promotions, at Vmall. Probably December like they did last year for H7.

Absolutely right, Axon7 an 1+3 do offer more for the same price, plus they also have custom ROMs unlike honor 8
Hell Mi5 regular offers more than H8 at 100$ lower pricing.
But it's not available in the US (officially)

Depends on your preference. Personally I wouldn't sacrifice software stability, better quality of construction, better customer support, better camera, expandable storage and better network support of Huawei in favour of a faster Mi5.

I don't prefer MI because of its build quality and personal experience of the problems faced within 1 month of purchase of RedMI Note 3.
However still people are going crazy on MI devices.
We have both(me n my brother in law) . 1 week of use and Huawei had scratches all over the phone. And I see I'm not the only one. What quality are we talking about? there is 0 screen protection. Both carried in same conditions.
Aside from by miles better screen, charging(and charger options) sound, marginal in battery, community support(that doesn't exist in huaweii)
He'll i even add software cuz MIUI 8 is by my preference miles ahead of Emui.
There is nothing like the Honor-experience to me.
I ordered the Honor 8 Blue on Monday on vmall, it got delivered 10 am on tuesday... insane!
Its unicolor, bezel has same color as the back and front.
Also, if you turn down animation speeds to 0,5 in developer settings, this phone seems lightning fast.
Benchmark scores dont matter to me, the Kirin 950 runs every app that i used to use on iphone 6s and Samsung S7 equally well.
One of the few things i want for the Honor 9 next year, would be Dual Sim slot with the capability of using a micro-SD card at the same time, like Motorola G4 can. And at least 64GB internal memory. I know there will be a 64GB model Honor 8 in the EU soon, but why not sell it at release? ...

Back or front? The back seems to scratch pretty easily, but the front seems ok. Phone dropped from sitting right on front and nothing seems scratched at all. (Actually it fall on rocks! I was impressed)
Actually, the back is easy to scratch unlike the front.
Luckily, an honor employee said he will forward this to honor. I hope they fix this in the next batch

Yup. But on my Blue honor you hardly notice the back scratches, I guess it might be more noticeable on the less glossy colors.
How did you contact the honor employee? Are they still active on XDA?

OnePlus has made marketing and advertising miss-steps in the past, whether sexist or encouraging users to destroy their existing phone on the offchance they might get a free OnePlus phone, they've also never had an IP rating for their phones either.
Now they've said the reason for this is because it costs money to get an IP rating and they would have to pass that cost on to the user.
To demonstrate that the OnePlus 7 "might" be waterproof they've...uhm...."got a bucket"...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l7iiX5fHRc
(Has XDA removed the ability to embed YT vids?....why?)
In the video they drop the phone into a bucket of water but put a disclaimer at the bottom basically saying they won't replace yours if you do the same and it breaks. Why bother making the video at all if you're not going to stand behind it?
I'm guessing the video is going to disappear shortly due to the mixed message in it.

Yes, putting a disclaimer does not make any sense............A lot of non IP rated phones are splashproof and a bit waterproof. The thing is that the Oneplus should have got that IP rating in order to prove that their devices don't just have premium design but also the build is solid.
Meh, I don't know. The rating is marketing 99%. Just Huawei and Samsung has sometimes replaced a liquid damaged device under warranty claim, as the waterproof IP rating isn't included in almost all warranties on phones. So it's just alot of air = marketing. As long as it stays this way, I couldn't care less, as long as there is the same protection, be there an official rating or not.
I'm just pleased they made it even a little less likely to be damaged by liquid. More sad they still think no one uses a 3.5mm jack.
More strategy than a misstep! It will still rock the house!
Well, here are two videos that show that the OP7pro IS water resistent:
» ONEPLUS 7 PRO is Water Resistant!? 30 Mins Under Water!
» Underwater OnePlus 7 Pro Review
Don't think for a second there won't be many YT channels willing to dunk their phone into water to display its water resistance.
Further, this IP rating means exactly what it means, but people are conflating an IP rating with build quality.
Water resistance doesn't mean anything when none of the manufacture stand by it. Meaning, if your phone gets wet and malfunctions, they will NOT replace your phone under a manufacturer warranty.
