no MKBHD or Unbox Therapy - LG V10 General

Correct if I'm wrong but I don't see V10 review videos from the top two YouTube reviewers with well over one million subscribers each. I know they reviewed LG's previous phones like the G4. You would think with the aggresive LG promotional offer that these two reviewers would have had an interest in informing the public that LG were throwing everything and the kitchen sink behind their first V series phone, both in terms of features that touch on many of their favorite topics like audio (32 bit DAC) and photo (full manual controls on video) and the unique second screen feature as well as the marketing. Was there ever another flagship phone that gave away $250+ in accessories? I can't think of one. This phone and it's launch has more than enough to distinguish it from most other phones in the flagship category. It sounds like there is either some politics or payola going on. There's no way they aren't aware of this phone and it's unique position as the last combination of SD card and removable battery.
Again apologies if I missed their reviews of the V10 but I subscribe to both and didn't notice a notification for the V10.

I don't have anything particularly noteworthy to add, other than the fact that my impression is also that the V10 has been a little (oddly) overlooked in the press and media. At least compared to other phones like the Note 5 and S6 models that pretty much every site and reviewer covered ad nauseam. I also noticed Mobile Tech Review didn't touch the V10, that's usually the first Youtube review I hit.
It's strange considering not only the promotion, but the fact that the phone has no glaring flaws, excellent specs with a lower than average price (with T-Mobile at least) and includes 2 things many are still demanding in a phone - a removable battery and SD expansion. LG deserves extra respect and acknowledgement for not trying to nickle & dime the customer with ridiculous storage upcharges. Not sure about conspiracies, but considering that most "reviewers" are beholden to manufacturers for review units, it wouldn't surprise me. The only reviewers I really trust anymore anyway are MTR, Erica Griffin, and Max Lee. I noticed Erica posted some video taken with the V10, so I would assume she has a review coming soon.

Pocketnow just posted their review for the v10.. Seemed like they do not like the v10 too.. Its a shame that reviers are butt licking Samsung and Apple phones these days.. You are absolutely right on Erica Griffin and max Lee being the most informative goutebers.. Max Lee already released like 5 videos on the v10!

I guess this begs the question are the bigger reviewers paid to do their reviews? Even if they have to pay for their own review phones wouldn't it be penny wise but pound foolish to pass up all the views and new subscribers by doing another flafship? As a top reviewer your subscribers expect you to weigh in on all the flagships phones. I even recall MKBHD doing an Amazon Fire phone video even though he didn't have the phone and He told everyone not to buy it! I guess he was mad they didn't include him on the list of people to demo the phone pre-release. It seems the same thing has happened here.

I'm actually dumbfounded that MKBHD hasn't given any LG V10 love he seemed to live the G4 iirc. I've been waiting for his video on it then bam Black Berry Priv... Okay... Awkward...

The phone just came out what, a few weeks ago right? Marques usually takes at least 2 weeks to get around to a new device and when he does he'll take several days of using it as a daily runner before putting together a video. Yes, I'll admit I checked earlier myself to see if he'd done one yet on the V10 and I know he will, it's just going to take some time.
I figure within another 2 weeks we'll see a review on his YouTube channel and I look forward to it.
Realize that he made a video recently that gets the point across that we don't compare new smartphones on what's new anymore or what's better - the comparisons are pretty much "Ok, thanks for tuning in and viewing, here's what's wrong with this device..." and that's about it.
While I do like his videos for the information they provide, I also find the video reviews by Lisa at MobileTechReview to be very well done too. Those are pretty my go-to channels on YouTube when I'm interested in getting opinions of hands on usage overall.

MKBHD usually does a quick preview video and then a longer full review. He's done neither.
The more I think about it, the more I think LG decided to carefully select which reviewers they wanted to get first crack a preview model. I think they picked Max Lee because he's a big advocate of consumers being able to use SD cards and change their own batteries. We all know that blocking those two things is just a transparent attempt by Samsung, Apple, etc. to shorten the shelf life of phones so that you're buying a new phone every year and half. And to fleece us out money by marking up the price for storage even when its gotten to be really inexpensive. Apple are the most flagrant abusers of this, $650 only get you 16GB in the year 2015. Ridiculous!
Max was very critical about Samsung dropping these deal-breaker features for many former Samsung, and now LG V10, customers. LG must have picked up on that and made sure he received a demo unit. He's become my #1 reviewer. I like to Erica Griffin as well, she does a great job of checking for color accuracy on displays. Jaime from Pocket Now and Armando Ferreira are my two other favorites.

Speaking of reviews, which independent reviewers do you guys recommend, or trust the most? By "independent" I mean review products using their own money, not getting anything from the manufactures. I feel like using a device provided by the manufactures could more or less affect their opinions toward the product.

That's ericas newest post on g+. Its safe to say she is very fond of the phone.

I tend to buy phones on my impressions and desires. I was unimpressed by the G4 and I'm glad the V10 came out of nowhere. My only complaint is that they could have came up with LED style app for the second screen, but I'm sure with time a Xposed module will come out for it similar to the ones that have been made for Samsung phones.

It did feel slightly like a pity review as many are probably asking him about the phone.

I bet you MKBHD did his review a little later because dbrand didn't send him a phone. Probably the same reason why UnboxTherapy hasn't done one yet too.
dbrand even tweeted this out: Can people stop saying the LG V10 has a "second screen"? That pathetic bar at the top is not a "second screen".
Obviously, they got something against the V10... So maybe they didn't send MKHBD or UT the phones.
*edit*
Also how could Marques not mention the DAC?!

That was part of the reason it felt a little forced quick style review. A lot of factors could come to play though.

Sounds like this 'dbrand' person is a bit of a boob considering that yes, the second screen is "a second screen" with dedicated circuitry which is discrete from the main display situated below it. It ain't much in terms of size but it is indeed a second screen in the device itself.
As for someone sending phones, from my understanding MKBHD buys his phones directly and never gets them for free just to do a review - he's always maintained that stance so that people won't have issues with the reviews whether they're favorable or not, and considering how many views he gets on his YouTube channel, he's most certainly making some income from it. That Red Dragon camera he uses to film his videos didn't come cheap and it sure as hell wasn't free either, so I have no reason to doubt that he does indeed purchase all the devices he does reviews on or even mentions.
If he doesn't well, that would just make him a scumbucket human being then wouldn't it?

I find it very unusual that he MKBHD calls the V10 underrated. I think you have to even know it exists in the first place to call it underrated. I have yet to meet a single person in my daily life who knew what the V10 was or had any idea it was coming out. But overall, I think that his reason for not doing a full review by now was flat out weird. "Better late than never?". That's not a really high standard for a guy with 3 million subscribers. I absolutely mystified why he hasn't done one of his 30 minute reviews given what he a fan he is of audio and video, the ability to customize the skin making Nova Launcher unnecessary, just so many features that are packed into one device for 64GB standard.
Oddly enough I was driving my car Sunday evening and a radio commercial came on for the V10 announcing the 64GB free SD card and free battery/cradle. That has to be the first time I have ever heard a radio commercial for a tablet or phone. It seems pretty clear to me that LG are not on Apple or Samsung's level yet on being able to mount a flagship phone marketing campaign. But who cares we should support them simply because they gave us SD card and removable battery. And giving us all a 200GB card, that's about the complete opposite of what Apple and Samsung do for their customers, which is basically to nickel and dime them.

dbrand aka douche brand can be childish and annoying sometimes.
lol @ the second screen not being a "second screen". is an extended display better?

Engadget review is up.....

http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/20/t-mobile-g2x-review/
Looks like what I expected. What's interesting is they specifically mention how it's future proofing by supporting AT&T 3G. At this point if it doesn't support it, then it's going to blow up on T-Mobile.
Also didn't notice complaints of reboots either! So could be software issue for me or maybe hardware. OR maybe they didn't use it enough!?
Interesting they mentioned the backlight bleed and I did notice that the touchscreen was not nearly as responsive as my Incredible.
Supposedly the touchscreen sensitivity is on purpose to stop unexpected touches. I think it'll be fine once we adjust. I'm also used to the super sensitive Incredible screen.
I'm pretty happy with this review.
They covered everything and surprisingly, Engadget didn't throw in any Apple fanboy remarks.
I read that review and the android community review.
I want that phone to work on Canadian bands (ATT). Please.
Thank you
I knew it would be an 8 before they even posted the review.
Whats funny is they said it was the best android phone out there and scored it lower than the P.O.S Atrix......lol
Myriam is definitely the best of that crew to review this phone. She's a big time T-Mobile fan and a camera nut, and while she does have an iPhone or two, she does really like Android.
Might be the most honest 8 I've seen them do, and if she'd reviewed the Atrix, I know it'd have been scored lower.

Different reviewers have different opinions.
All the good people left and it definatley shows on the site now. Tough to read the review when its not done by Josh or Chris.
Wish this guy would get his head on straight holding the G2x slanted the entire review an some one needed to tell him that the glair in the room ya couldnt even see what was on the screen. he surely didnt know much about the G2x in that i dont care how it compares in size to other phones thickness, blah poor reviewer. Give me meaty technical details an demostrations not repeating over again that the screen has some bleeding issues
Myriam, female, is one of the most experienced gadget bloggers out there, period.
Why do you need more technical info in a phone review? You know the specs already.
It's an 8/10 phone because the screen could be better, 2.2 is a year old, and it should take better pics.
There are no 10/10 phones.
8/10 on the review.
Could have been better organized, not so repetitive. Show more apps working rather than just flipping between home screens, actually test call quality and speeds, and major fail not testing GPS. With so many TMo users with bonky GPS on their Vibrants in line for upgrades leaving that out is incomprehensible.
didn't most other websites show that the G2x display was better than SAMOLED displays? especially the one by Lisa, that one showed a striking difference b/w the two. Everything else was expected in Engadget's review

LOL, that guy is actually a girl. I thought she was a guy for 2 years. Turns out she is just a manly girl.
I think 'She' was originally a man.
So does no one realize that if/when AT&T buys T-mobile that they'll get T-mobile's frequency as well? This whole "works with AT&T" thing is just a ruse to go out and buy a new phone. Your old phone will work fine.

All reviews I've seen range from claiming that the Moto X (2015) is mediocre but solid, to being the savior of Android in 2015.
It did make Wired's top 3 phones, along with Galaxy S6+ and iPhone 6.
They are calling it "higher-end midranger"
Sent from my HTC6600LVW using Tapatalk
Midrange? Mediocre? I mean its not the top of the flight device but its still on par with lg g4, they basically have the same specs. The camera might not be so good on low light but lets wait and see, if the device is stable with stock android, does not over heat, have a regular updates and its made of fine material i cant see that any review will stop me from buying it :good:
Edit: oh, and i almost forgot the battery, hope its not that bad
I'm holding off for root and hands on reviews from people here. No reason to rush out but I can't wait to see how much activity this forum gets over the coming weeks.
I live in Europe so by then i hope i ll get pretty much good picture about the device, lets hope for the best :victory:

I couldn't agree more! In fact, I bought my first Apple Iphone: 6+ (second hand at reduced price on Swappa) and let me tell you, I don't know what all the fuss is about. Slow, inefficient OS. I don't understand why people are devoted to Iphones, other than build quality and camera (which is now a moot point). Makes no sense. I am re-selling on Swappa or ebay..and it is now my last Iphone.
Strange reviews from the sites linked to in this thread. Reading them, I don't know much about the phone that I didn't to begin with. The camera gets some attention, but things like the speakers and the specifics of the display don't. How good do the speakers sound? What do they sound like? How's the volume? There's some mention that the HTC BoomSound speakers are better. That's fine. But some detail? More importantly, what about the display? A few reviewers complained that it's not as good as the AMOLED is on Samsung devices. Personally, I don't much care for AMOLED displays, though they have their strengths. How accurate are the colors on the new Style? Are the whites bright and genuinely white? (They aren't on AMOLED displays, a major problem, at least for me.)
I'm not one to study benchmarks extensively. Some general info about them is fine for me. But I do want some detail. Just saying "I like it" or "I don't like it" doesn't do anyone any good.
I suppose that the reviews we get from the geekier sites will fill in a few blanks. That and feedback from early users here.
I completely agree. The Engadget review seems the best one so far. Verge was terrible.
Based on these reviews, the battery doesn't seem too great, just mediocre. Hopefully we'll get better reviews from mkhd and/or android authority.
If the battery is that bad, I may hope the Huawei Nexus has a bigger battery and is around the $400 price range. If not, hopefully the Motorola Force? That is if it isn't a Verizon exclusive and the price is around $400.
Last resort is the Oneplus 2.

On another note I found this review helpful https://youtu.be/dfPPEDWqRxI
That CNET review really glorified the Note 5. As an owner of the Note 4, I know it's strengths. The Note 5 shares none of those strengths. And I know its weaknesses. The Note 5 shares them all.
Sorry Samsung, you're dead to me. Can't wait for my Moto X.

I like this phone but I don't know if i like it enough to have it for 2 years. With the iphone 8 and the Samsung s8 or note 8 coming next year makes me want to wait. So with the people that have this phone please tell me what you think of it. Thabks all.
Wait. You are setting yourself up for a disappointment with all that you see wrong with the device before even buying it. And the price will drive you nuts with those shortcomings you find objectionable.

Here's a suggestion - make up your own mind instead of relying on other people. Not everyone has to like the same things for the same reasons.
Come on guys, I think you're being unfair. All of us who have bought the phone ought to write a review every time somebody is thinking about buying one and can't be bothered to read the comments and reviews already posted here and on youtube.
Realistically every phone is going to have certain shortcomings, and to me the Pixel looks like first-generation hardware with a top-tier asking price. After seeing the Pixel, I decided to buy the iPhone 7. That's when I found out Apple doesn't provide anything like an LED or ambient display to indicate waiting notifications. That one issue is worth the cost of a return for me, but apparently it's also acceptable to the people that bought the billion previous iPhones. The Pixel checks a lot of items off my interest list, and it misses some. Like other phones available today and in the future, there are areas where the Pixel does and does not compare favorably with other options. Ultimately I think it cost me $35 to find out that an LED notification is more personally important than waterproofing, image stabilization, or wireless charging.
I've been with Android since the HTC Droid Eris. Things are advancing so rapidly now, it is worse that trying to buy an up to date PC back in the day...by the time you got home someone had the specs of your brand new toy beat. It seems even worse now with smartphones. I find myself getting ever closer to a phone that tick all my wants. However, when that starts happening, everybody will keep the phone they have for two years instead of getting a new one every year. That won't help the sales plateau smartphones seem to be in. Today you have to be prepared for the phone you buy today to be one tier behind in a very short time. Just the way it is.
I have to say my new Pixel is the best smartphone I have ever used and it is not even close. I retired an LG V10. The V10 is about as far behind the Pixel as the Galaxy S4 was behind the V10. No it is not perfect, but no other top tier phone today is perfect either. If the Pixel is judged to be too expensive, then so are the rest of the top tier brands.
I'd say get it. Be careful with it and return it if you have some issue.
I have read tons or reviews but here is the thing, those reviews are a lot of the time done by people that wrote for a living and not the average person that is going to use this phone. Most of the time they write these reviews because they get all new phones shipped to them for free and not the average person that gets a new phone once every 2 years. I guess in all, I know what the reviews say and the YouTube videos look like but I wanted to know what the average person says about the phone. Not the expert says about the phone. Thabks.

Youre gonna wait every 6 months... Pixel 2 next year..
Personally I hold out until the next phone I buy has significant upgrades..
I went from Nexus 4 to Nexus 6 to LG G4 to LG v10 (I fell for the 2nd screen gimmick, but it wasnt anything more over the G4), skipped LG G5, skipped Nexus 6p, considered One plus 3, but Pixel Xl filled a few of the most important boxes for me.
Hype, bandwagon, fantastic screen that turns iPhone/samsung owner's heads, accessories, accessories, super active community, fast, fast loading camera ready to take a picture, unlimited cloud, build quality, looks and balance.
I'm hoping assistant, gps and navigation will work well as I use them a lot and most phones have worked ok, but fail..
Im still waiting on my preorder....
I am happy with T-Mobile giving a 325 dollar credit for this phone, so it's totally worth it for me.

See that is a worthwhile upgrade. I went to an n5x so the pixel is not worth the cost. It just depends on where you're coming from.

Same here! I was going to pass on the Pixel because of the price but with that promo, I ordered two for me and the missus. A Pixel for $325 is an amazing deal!

Exactly what I thought, I almost purchased a 5x but decided to wait for the next nexus, didn't know that time that it was going to be a pixel, but yeah for me it is worth the upgrade. If i had purchased the 5x then I am pretty sure I would be in the same boat as you, lol for me even the freakin fingerprint scanner is an upgrade
To the op and others undecided. I think some have already covered it but I'll put in my $.02
I'm different than most that posted here. I like to buy/sell when new devices come out. There is no perfect phone for anyone. I also am not biased towards android or apple.
I have recently used moto x, moto x 2nd gen, htc m9, sony z3 compact, oneplus3, iphones 5s,6,6s,&7/7+
I'm currently using the oneplus 3, iphone 7, and just got the pixel yesterday.
All these phones have there advantages/disadvantages as previously mentioned.
There will always be something better around the corner. If you keep waiting, you'll be waiting forever. If you need a phone right now, best options in my opinion are the pixel, oneplus3, iphone 6s or 7, but that depends on your needs too. If you don't need a phone right now wait it out till you do.
Phones are somewhat similar to pcs right now. They are not really getting any faster for typical use, just better cameras typically and a few different options in the os.
The oneplus 3 imo is the best 5.5" android phone for the money. It's almost perfect for my needs but comes with some minor bugs and not the best speakers for music. $400, can't be beat by any phone and is the fastest android phone out i believe. It is faster than the pixel.
Pixel is a great phone. Fingerprint sensor location takes some getting used to. Android 7 and pixel launcher are nice but come with some bugs and lack of options. Phone can be laggy at times during normal use. Great deal if you get in on the t-mobile promo. I don't like the big top/bottom bezels but i can live with it. With future updates, this could be my new close to perfect phone.
IPhone 7 is nice but overhyped. Iphone 6s is just as good. Iphone 7 speakers and camera slightly better, maybe slightly faster but nothing like Apple claims.
You need to decide what you really want then pick the phone that best fits for the price you want yo pay.
If you want a cheap avg android phone, go with the oneplus 3. It's a great price and competes with the high end phones extremely well. Otherwise pony up. There are limited choices for a decent priced phone anymore and definitely typically come with drawbacks that I'm not willing to sacrifice.
Best of luck
I currently have the Samsung s7. I'm on Verizon. I ordered a pixel from Google because with the financing you can pay it off early. On Verizon Device payment plan you have to pay monthly or just pay the entire phone off at once.
I've been reading reviews and got impatient and ordered the phone from Verizon. I saw were you could get 20% off with the Save20 code but it didn't work for me because of my corporate discount. However, Verizon is giving trade in value for any phone. If I traded in my S7 I could get $300 but I want to keep it in case I don't like the pixel.
What I did was buy an iPhone 4 from ebay for $30. Verizon gave me a $200 credit for that phone and I ordered the 128gb pixel. So I got that phone for 750-200+30=$580. I think I paid $650 for my Nexus 6P 64gb last year.
Options that Verizon and tmobile offer make it a no brainer to get this phone. I think if Google had released this phone to all carriers or when they do you will have many people buying and loving this phone. That is the problem. Not what the phone is missing it's because people don't want to pull the trigger because of the price.

Come on guys, I think you're being unfair. All of us who have bought the phone ought to write a review every time somebody is thinking about buying one and can't be bothered to read the comments and reviews already posted here and on youtube.

LOL. Thanks mate, you made my day!
I'm am average user but love pure android and had nearly all the Nexus phones and coming from the 6p to the pixel, have to say love it. Great camera, faster better in low light, phone is bonkers quick with excellent battery life and very crisp clear screen. Also easier to handle than my 6p. Very expensive but worth it? Just about.

Essential 2 possibility?

I'm starting to look for a new phone and the Essential has piqued my interest, but, it seems like there have been quite a few start up problems associated with new products.
So, since the World Mobile Congress is happening at the end of the month and Essential has a spot reserved in it, I was wondering if there has been any leaks, rumors or news associated with it? I was hoping for news of an Essential 2 or a ph-2? New release? Anything?
Thx.
Probably just new colors and accessories. They have their hands full dealing with the PH-1.

Maybe they will showcase new PH-1 accessories that they have no intention of ever making. LOL
Just maybe, Essential is winding down their beta project (PH-1) and is focused on their first truly production phone.

Maybe... Although with this phone flopping the way it did, I don't know how much I would invest in the next phone if I were them or their investors... The PH-1 was a failure. They lost money on every unit they sold. If Andy had not raised so much capital to keep them afloat, they would have closed their doors by now.
The vision was ambitious and great. The execution, not so much.
There are a lot of B.S. articles out there no doubt, and there were some growing pains... But I wouldn't give up my PH-1 for any other phone right now. I love it... no case since launch, and still looks great, camera is pretty good now. battery life spectacular, Looking forward to whatever they have to offer next

I like most things about it. I am just annoyed at bugs, and the progression of updates isn't as good as I would have hoped. Yes, they put out 16 camera updates over 5 months, but that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement... that they HAD to put out so many updates just to get the camera up to "mediocre" status... LOL
Like anything, if it works for you and makes you happy, enjoy it! I am just on the fence with it...

Failure?
You need to define failure.
I have a friend on Sprint that has hated just about every phone she had Android and iPhone.
She absolutely loves the PH-1.
I have a PH-1 and it is by far the best phone I've owned.
Here is my list that I've owned:
SCH-i600W (Windows flip phone)
SCH-i760
Treo 700W
BB Storm 1
BB Storm 2
DroidX
Droid Bionic
Droid Razr
Droid Razr Maxx
Galaxy S4
LG G3
iPhone 6 plus
Nexus 6P
LG G6
Essential PH-1
There are some true failures in that list.
If you want to base success on how many sold you might be right.
What they learned though was how difficult it is to launch a device.
They leaned to roll out updates.
They learned how they need to support customers.
They learned how to partner, although they picked a crappy one (Sprint).
But overall as a new player in the high end market, I wouldn't call them a failure.
Failure defined by sales numbers and how much money they lost on this phone.
SquireSCA said:
Yeah, few failures on that list. I have had a few that were not on the list as well, I am betting that we all have.
One thing that I will say, and this is based on several tech articles that I have read in the past couple weeks, is that the market is changing a bit. It's not the wide open market that it was in a lot of ways, even just a few years ago. One article pointed out that a company like OnePlus, got really lucky. They hit at the right time, but for someone else to do it again in 2017/18 faces more challenges.
Oh well, time will tell I guess.
I love new products and the more there are, the more competition there is. I don't want a world made up of just Apple and Samsung. But we are gonna have to sift through a few lemons to find that occasional diamond in the rough...

Considering that Google only sold ~4 Million of Pixel and Pixel 2 phones of all types last year, calling the Essential a complete failure might be a bit premature.
The sales numbers might be low, but I think that this is just indicative of how difficult it is to compete with Apple and Samsung and nothing else.
I like innovative an new products.
No matter what they say about Essential, they were first to the party with a phone that had a huge screen and minimal bezels.
They have a build quality and hand feel second to none.
I don't plan on replacing this phone for a while.
I only with I could get a Poetic Affinity case. That is my favorite case and I've had one on my last three phones.
To be fair, 80k is a lot less than 4 mill. Lol

88K.
But think about the size of the companies and length of time in the market.
Google had all year and only sold 4 Million. That's 333K per month. That's a rally low number.
Essential started shipping in the second half of the year and was an unknown company.
So if you put it into perspective. We don't know if the company is a failure or not, is all I'm saying.
The time on the market is not statistically significant enough to draw any conclusion.
I just know I like my PH-1.
88k shipped, not sold. Plus, how many returns?
Sorry guys. Didn't mean to start a phone bashing thread.

So this is the choice i have. start giving out warnings/infractions or you all have a civilized conversation without name callings of any sort or bashing each other ?
You all don't need to reply just answer yourself and proceed as i know what i would be doing next if this continues.
Thread cleaned.
I hope the company survives. Overall I am pretty happy with my PH-1. I much prefer it to any Scamsung product. And everywhere you go, Samsung and Apple are the only choices. That needs to end. Can't find an HTC anywhere to put my hands on despite it being critically acclaimed as one of the best devices of 2017. Pathetic. I asked about the PH-1 at Best Buy and the employee said they might have 1 in the back but there just wasn't enough display space. They had about 30 Samsung and iPhones on display though.....

I like the my PH-1 and you'll need to pry it from my cold dead hands.
I can't think of any other phone I like better.
I just wish that Poetic made the Affinity case for the PH-1. :crying:

Considering that officially they only sell in the US...
It is a new product. I doubt anybody would expect too a million phones in 3 months or something.
Has some issues, yes. First gen stuff always does. Even second and third gen do.
Works Ok for a first gen. Does what I need to do.
I don't have brand loyalty to anything, may buy something else in a few months. Maybe even a PH-2...

What do you think of this youtuber's huawei rant.

https://youtu.be/uN1tNi3108Y
* brightness issue
* camera and quality
* marketing
* giving away free units to reviewers. This includes free travel and food in exchange for good review.

Upset because he didn't get a free one maybe lol. In all seriousness though, I've had all the latest flagships over the last two years and the camera on this is the most enjoyable I have used second to none. It has its quirks but they all do, but the P20 pro in my opinion fits my needs more than any other phone currently on the market.
Not bothered whether Huawei pay reviewers in kind or not. I've made my own mind up.
How does clever marketing make them any worse than Samsung, Apple or any other manufacturer? Geez they all do it.

It's no surprise is it? This has been going on forever. Just don't trust reviews.
I generally watch reviews for fun, as they are almost always positive about every phone.
I have never purchased a phone that doesn't have faults. Samsungs always have screen issues, Pixels always have some software bugs, Sony always have crap cameras.
Yet to read the reviews, they are all great.
Screen brightness bug is huaweis problem, but it should be fixable with update. Other than that, all of companies does it, let's say LG with it's g7 reviews, flew a lot of people to Korea and gave them 3 day holiday's for good reviews.
Case of sour grapes, what he rants about is done by all except maybe SONY but then again. The P20 Pro camera is unbeatable his rants aside.

IMO all the flagship phones are good now but given their complexity and the short 1-3 year life cycle they are designed to have, every one of them will always have some issues that never get fixed.
