For Canadian LG V60 owners. - LG V60 ThinQ Guides, News, & Discussion

Post here for Canadian owners of the LG V60.

Anyone in Canada have 5g access? I don't have 5g in Nova Scotia. Wondering what people's thoughts are that have it.

Not in my neck of the woods. (Northern Ontario)

FYI, only Rogers has 5G network running in few cities.
Here's a map with the 5G antennas speedtest.net/ookla-5g-map

Just got April 2020 security patch on my Telus phone. Now at version 10n.

Bell is supposidly launching 5G in parts of NS soon. I dont know where exactly but I'm hoping halifax will be one of the spots.

T Mobile has 5g all over United States Canada must be slow

There are 5g cities in the Huge cities like toronto and Vancouver, but the big telcos had to re look at hardware partners so the rollout got pushed out a year in some areas

Hello - I just upgraded my G7 to a V60 yesterday and I am loving the phone.
I would like to know if anyone else has noticed that the cell signal bars seem to be pretty low all the time. I am located in Mississauga at Winston Churchill and Eglington and I am only seeing 1-2 bars.
Has anyone found a workable screen protector for the exterior part of the dual screen?

That's cool, I'm at the same intersection of Mississauga! And yeah 5G with 1-2 bars

According to Bell's map - 5G coverage isn't in our area.
I did some messing around with another guys sim card - he's on rogers - and when I put his in it immediately jumped to 4-5 bars. So it seems to be an issue with the bell network coverage in the West end. In know that when I am inside the schools - Rogers phones work fine - Bell phones all seem to drop connection.
I may go in and get a new sim card - mine is really old - but I doubt that will fix anything.
In any case - the phone seems to be normal - and still very happy with it.

Strange cause mine is saying 5g and the speeds are above 4g/LTE+ the *#*#4636#*#* also confirms I'm on the 5g downlink

Bought the V60 from Telus unlocked using it on Rogers i dont even have the option to select 5G , when i go to network> Mobile networks i only have GSM/WCDMA/LET. im i missing something ? Telus V60 should work with Rogers 5G right ?

Hi I have just bought an unlocked canadian variant LM-V600TM I think. On my update says 1st october security pach. Is this the last one ota update? The LG eta says android 11 come in december for our v60? Is that right?

Try Amazon.ca. That's where I bought mine. It's a Sprint/Tmo version which you can debloat. Cheaper as well.

any idea about when we get android 11? not that it matters because it's mostly cosmetic at this point anyway

I got mine last week but I had the Tmo version running on Bell network. I would say avoid the update for now as there's an issue with battery drain. You can search it up and it's not limited to LG V60. It affects Pixel devices as well.

Droid 2 Global with 3G on Rogers

Here it is. Get a unlock code and it works on Rogers network, with 3G.
Just remember to set APN first.
So it is confirmed that Verizon is not messing up the 850/1900 bands outside US.
Canadian Droid lovers, you are safe.
Btw, this phone seems to have some serious reception issues. It only shows one signal bar in my house, while other phones would get full. Hope moto could fix this via a software update.

Thanks for confirming this for us. We hear in the US are still having those problems with AT&T and T-Mobile. Hopefully we will find a workaround soon.
Thanks so much. Thats what I've been searching for. BTW, where did you get the phone? Can you just go to Verizon store and buy it outright without signing any contract, not even the month by month plan?
Got the phone from a friend in the US. What he did was activate a month to month plan, and cancel it right away.

Got it on ebay. Just search for "Dorid 2 Global Unlock" and there you go.

The unlock code is so you can use non-Verizon (Vodafone) SIMs. Rooting is being able to have full read / write access to the entire phone. Rooting alone will not unlock the radio to use 3rd party SIMs.

Has anyone else noticed reception issues with this phone? I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the Milestone 2 originally and then this one came out and I want it sooooo bad. I need to upgrade from this HTC Magic but I don't want to buy a phone with hardware flaws.
I tried Googling it but all I'm finding is reception problems on the Droid 2 and the Droid X. Not a lot on the D2G but it seems like the entire Droid line has people reporting reception problems.
Is it just the number of bars showing thats a problem or do you also get frequent dropped calls?
I heard from a friend that Android 2.2 includes a new Battery Manager that reduces power to the radio when you're not making or receiving a call and that's probably why the number of bars showing is low when the phone is idle and there probably isn't really a reception problem unless calls are being dropped. Can anyone confirm this?
It's a long drive from where I am in Canada to the nearest Verizon store so I was going to make purchasing it part of a road trip to visit friends in Seattle in a couple weeks if I can get confirmation that the reception problem is not hardware related.
Any confirmations or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Reception hasn't really been an issue for me. Seems acceptable. Battery life marginal though but I had the same issue with an HTC Desire

Buy it on prepaid. Its $394 plus $104 of other stuff, total 537.

APN settings are same for 3G and EDGE. Are you sure you are not forcing EDGE somewhere in settings? Or maybe battery manager?
I figured out the problem. I had the phone in "gsm only" mode. When I switched back to"Global" mode in network settings I instantly got 3g and even "H". Thanks for the help anyway

Problems getting 4G LTE on Sprint Network

Hi,
I got my Nexus 5 from a 3rd party Sprint Dealer, known as Wirefly.com -- Is anyone having problems accessing 4G LTE from Sprint? I am in the 100% best coverage zones according to Sprint.
I have done heaps of troubleshooting steps with Sprint, to no avail. They are blaming it on a faulty phone.
Anyone else having this issue?
Its been happening since I received the phone on Dec 4th.
Thank you

Wirefly is currently out of stock, otherwise they said they would replace it. I am going to keep checking back with them everyday to get a new one. Any suggestions in the mean time? Sprint tech support has been hit or miss. I have been told that there is tower problems from Baltimore to Southern Virginia, then another tech support agent tells me no problems at all!
I do not know what to believe anymore or what to do!

Thank you again.

If you are on 4.4.2 then you need to root and flash a different modem or wait for google to send out an update.
Since you are getting lte but with a weak signal this is most likely the problem of course coverage maps are very vague and it may be that you are just too far from the tower.

Anyone else having this by chance?

Can't make or receive calls from a few select areas.

Strange problem. I tried researching this problem and found nothing.
My OPO works just fine at everywhere except home and another location a few miles away from my home. At these places I can't make or receive phone calls. Data works fine. I flashed the newest resurrection remix, with full wipe. I also tried flashing 3 different modems.
I called T-Mobile and presented them with the problem and they said my phone many be too old and possibly not support T-Mobiles' new LTE bands. So, I asked what band am I receiving at home and they Dont know... I dropped down to prefer 3g and still no luck.
Anyone with a similar experience or may know what I'm dealing with please help. I still love my OPO and would prefer to not buy a new phone.

You might not be able to use Lte perfectly on T-mobile(as they already said) since it uses LTE band 12 mostly which OPO doesn't supports..though I guess 3G should work fine.
Also,I guess T-Mobile uses VoLTE to place calls,which again,OPO doesn't support.
Can you list out the modems/firmwares which you've tried so far?

Install T-Mobile software instead of international

Hi everyone. I purchased a OnePlus 8 5G directly from OnePlus, running on the T-Mobile network. After trying to figure out why I didn't receive the T-Mobile 5G SA update (10.5.17.IN55CB), I realized my phone is running the international version of the software. I guess this is because it's factory unlocked but I didn't realize this would limit my access to T-Mobile 5G updates! I never travel internationally and don't really care about an unlocked bootloader, etc. as long as the SIM is unlocked.
Can I manually download and install the T-Mobile software so I will get the 5G SA update (and future T-Mobile OTA updates)?
i was also wondering if that would make a difference. maybe someone could provide the modem.img from that update, if it changed. flashing the euro modem on the international rom definitely made a difference for me. not really with speed but overall coverage and stability.

Guys I'm on TMO but switched over to global voluntarily. Honestly check out TMO 5G info and you'll find it's not as great as you think. It's the beginning of a software change. Veteran modders know the beginning of updates have a lot of bugs.
If you really want it then get the MSM Tool, downgrade to 10.5.7 and let it upgrade you manually to 10.5.17. then you can get back to global if you'd like with the modem. Happy modding!
Thanks, it sounds like it was premature. I live in a rural area and my main concerns are 1) better (not reliant on LTE) 600Mhz coverage and 2) lower latency.
Do you think the global software line will get an SA update down the road? Are there any other difference between the global and T-Mobile line of software that would affect my coverage performance with LTE or 5G?

Great question, This is my first OnePlus phone so I can't tell you if and when gonna will get the update. What I have heard of that TMO is rolling out 5G in several layers. This first one is pretty low key but it had some books already. Second and third would be better. I guess check around here to see more about it. If you are absolutely sure you want this update then you can use MSM took to downgrade then just let the TMO servers do the work for you. Happy modding!

I would be surprised if the global version got an update for SA 5g. That's TMO specific and OnePlus would have zero care about a specific carrier of all the world's carriers .
There are differences in modems according to TMobile. I can't remember specifics but I think it was carrier aggregation on band 66 ( I don't remember much so I may be way off)

Yeah, I figured that was unlikely with the global version, although I'm sure carriers across the world will begin deploying SA 5G at some point.
I was going to start a new thread but after you notes about the modem differences, this might relate to another issue I've noticed: When connected to Band 2 (1900 Mhz) with LTE or 5G, I was getting really good speeds (~30Mbps Down/5Mbps Up). Now, when I test using 5G or LTE (by turning off 5G) my speed tests are horrible: ~1Mbps Down/0.7Mbps Up. I have tested with "Smart 5G" on and off, and also removed and reinstalled the SIM card. If I pop the SIM card out and put it back into my Pixel 2, I get 30Mpbs Down/5Mpbs Up with LTE on Band 2. My Pixel 2 was purchased directly from Google and is factory unlocked/direct Google updates.
Do you think this is because of the carrier agg issue you mentioned? In my area Band 4/Band 66 is only used for T-Mobile 2G/3G, to my knowledge. LTE is offered on Bands 2, 12, and 71. 5G NR seems to only be on Band 71 here at present.

Josh, not often this happens, but I disagree with what you say here. Normally I agree with everything you post. However, this time I have to disagree.
5G SA is not at all T-Mo specific and is a standardized implementation for carriers should they choose to go that route.
However, OnePlus caring about it is up in the air, lulz!
See here: https://ibasis.com/what-is-5g-sa-nsa/
5G SA means stand alone. This means that the device will only ride on 5G and not aggregate with 4G.
If I am wrong please correct me. Thanks!

I and many others posted that they cannot get the update. Those that did said they had connectivity issues. I suspect that T-Mo pulled the update. I don't know this for fact, however I cannot get the update. T-Mo site says check back after 8/31. That's crazy weird. Others also complain. I think the update is borked hence the lack of wide roll out. . Again, dont know this for fact but just speculating...

Thanks!

For sure. I do stand corrected here on SA. I was referring to the specific bands that TMobile uses for SA 5g vs world bands SA 5g but who knows if that's impossible but I, like you, think that OP will not care about it or would screw it up.
As for the modem differences, I was referring to an older post from TMobile on their forums during the 6t launch days so I can't really remember exactly what it was. I think if you searched my posts from way you could find it
Speaking of, I am incredibly disappointed in tmos 5g. I'm lucky to get 20 dl. Are you having any better luck

Yeah I think you are right. As soon as it was available it became unavailable. They will roll it out when those bugs are fixed. This is one of the reasons I don't like TMO stock. They are buggy and slow to update. Not to mention all the bloatware.

I am EXTREMLEY disappointed
History of my observations...
When I first switched to T-Mobile with the 6T the speeds were great. Well, decent. But around the time the S20 series came out I noticed extreme sluggishness with the 6T. Compared it to the people in the store and there's wer the same. A massive down turn in speed. I suspect it had something to do with the implementation of 5G in the area. It was my guess... Anways, moved back to T-Mobile two months ago and got this phone. The speeds are even worse. So this phone on 5G is just as bad as LTE. I disabled 5G and tested. Same results.
Long story short, T-mobile did something and slowed my connection down.
Your lucky. Very luck. I routinely get 2 to 5 mbs when I am home. In town I dont think I got over 25Mbs. AT&T has the best network in Fargo. 200MBS down on S20U all day!

5G still not working

So I have a Nord and I have a sky sim. It runs on the O2 network. I've never been able to get it to run on 5G. does someone know how I can because while its not an urgent feature. I would like to get it working. I thought with android 11 they would have fixed it but they didn't.
Is the sim account 5G as I know EE charge more.. 5G on three is utter pants doesn't work in the square mile in London hardly at all.. Stratford in there store only WiFi work's even though they claim 5G does. It could also be just weak area where you live anyone have you asked customer services if there is 5G and if Sky sim you have work's with it

My Account does have 5G and my Brother has a oneplus 8 Pro and 5G works perfectly on that but my nord does not connect to the 5G network. even when I force it to in the *#*'4636#*#* settings. Leeds has 5G in it and its pretty decent. And it shows 5G is accessible in the settings but it won't connect. Sky Mobile runs on the O2 network and I know people have had issues with it but its been sorted with an update. There has not been any update fixing this unfortunately. so I'm asking the people of XDA if they can help
I know this is the slowest 5G phone as the ariel on the Nord is pants Gadget show done a test same area 4 different phone's Nord was 40Mb slower on a broadband connection test in different locations.. But trust me when I say 5G no better in the UK at present yet. Hope you get it sorted..
