Can't make or receive calls from a few select areas. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Strange problem. I tried researching this problem and found nothing.
My OPO works just fine at everywhere except home and another location a few miles away from my home. At these places I can't make or receive phone calls. Data works fine. I flashed the newest resurrection remix, with full wipe. I also tried flashing 3 different modems.
I called T-Mobile and presented them with the problem and they said my phone many be too old and possibly not support T-Mobiles' new LTE bands. So, I asked what band am I receiving at home and they Dont know... I dropped down to prefer 3g and still no luck.
Anyone with a similar experience or may know what I'm dealing with please help. I still love my OPO and would prefer to not buy a new phone.

You might not be able to use Lte perfectly on T-mobile(as they already said) since it uses LTE band 12 mostly which OPO doesn't supports..though I guess 3G should work fine.
Also,I guess T-Mobile uses VoLTE to place calls,which again,OPO doesn't support.
Can you list out the modems/firmwares which you've tried so far?

Can't you just change your Carrier instead?

LTE discovery app shows i am connected to LTE Band 4. 3 of 4 signal bars. Is it possible that t-mobile uses band 4 for data and band 12 for voice?

I am in USA. The next biggest carrier is Verizon which dont work on OPO. Metro PCS is the same as tmobile. I am not going ATT. OPO dont work on Sprint either.

LTE not working?! Manual Programming codez (updated)11-7

I got my Nexus 5 yesterday and finally got it working. I live right next to a LTE tower and I can't seem to get LTE.
1. Checked PRL
2 Checked Sim
3 Checked Profile
4. Called sprint
5. Checked network settings.
When i put the phone in airplane mode, and back off. It jumps to LTE for 2 seconds then 3g
Anyone having these issues ???
*manual re-fresh*
*#*#72786#*#*
after that, phone will reboot and "re-fresh network"
Also, my phone wen't into global mode, which you will need to change that back to LTE mode.
- Still isn't fixed ...
will report back ..
Manual Programming Code
*#*#675#*#*
edit: MDN = phone number
MSID: split
UPDATE
doing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting LTE only does indeed make LTE work both visually and functionally, with a loss of voice of course, but as soon as you go back to LTE/CDMA auto it'll require a reboot to take effect and LTE is once again not working.
(from sprint forums) - confirmed
I'm having these issues with Sprint as well. Thanks for your updates. I'll let you know if I learn anything.

You're Welcome,
Yes, this is very aggravating. My friends have LTE sprint phones and get LTE standing right next to me.
There is something wrong here! :/
On phone with sprint now, I hope they have an update.
Will report back.

Here is how I fixed it for myself on Sprint.
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Change Network Mode from Global to LTE.
It will still connect to Evdo, ehrpd and Lte and switches between them as needed.
Luckily I haven't got hit with 1x since trying this out. My area has maybe one or two spots where I'd get 1x instead of ehrpd.
Settings hold after a reboot. I was driving to work today with my phone playing my music and it seemlessly switched between 3g and lte on it's own.

We are not having the same issues then. In post #1. I've referenced checking the network settings. I've done this over and over.

I guess so because I was having that same initial problem you were where LTE would connect for a few seconds then when I tried to do anything with data it stalled out and went to 3g.

Mine does that too.
BUT, nothing in the settings has been able to fix this.
How long since you activated? Mine would not connect to lte at all until last night... about 30 hours after activation.
Now it connects fine. I tried everything including flashing the modems posted in dev, swapping sims, trying every different network config and nothing worked except lte only mode which then kills 3g and voice.

I too am having the exact same problem as the OP. I can change the setting from Global to LTE and the phone will connect to LTE for a few seconds before switching back to 3g.
I am coming from the Note 3 on Sprint that got great LTE here at home, about 16mb down and 4mb up but I am hoping this gets resolved quick.
I'm on T-Mobile and it favors sticking on HSPA+ instead of LTE. If LTE gets down to one bar, the phone decides it's time to switch back. Compare this behavior to my Nexus 4 and it would stick on LTE come hell or high water. I would stay on LTE while in the office and this phone refuses to even get on LTE in the office. I don't get it.
Some have suggested this is a "power saving" feature, but I call BS on this because my Nexus 4 wasn't even intended to have its LTE radio used and LTE really didn't impact my battery. It felt like it lasted the same as it did before I enabled LTE on it.
Possible Sprint Fix
Customer: Is the SIM device specific? I reused the one from my Note 3. I have seen other information that the SIM's for the Nexus 5 are device specific.
Mitchell C.: Yes, you can get a SIM for the Nexus from a nearest Sprint store. I can fix an appointment for you.
Customer: so they are device specific?
Mitchell C.: Yes, they are.
Mitchell C.: We've come across a lot of these issues today.
Customer: SO just to be clear, I need to ask for a SIM for the Nexus 5?
Mitchell C.: Absolutely.
Customer: ok
Customer: that should correct my connectivity problem?
Mitchell C.: Yes, every service will work fine after you get it.

Well, I got my sim card from a sprint store 2 days ago and I am still having issues. I have been emailing sprint care but no luck.
I hope they fix this soon! Maybe they gave me the wrong SIM? Idk
Doubtful Mitchell knows what he is talking about. People have used HTC One SIMS and GS4 sims and have LTE. But, today is the big day the Sprint phones go on sale. Will be interesting to see if any of those people have the issue.

Still stuck on 3G after activating around 72 hours ago.
To follow up on the Nexus 5's "special" SIM card. I'm also skeptical about this. I'm using a SIM from a GS4 (part #: SIMGLW206R) which is the same SIM mentioned in this post about activating the Nexus 5 on Sprint: http://qbking77.com/google-nexus-5/activate-nexus-5-sprint/.
However, I called a nearby Sprint store to ask if they had any SIM cards available. They said yes but when I mentioned the Nexus 5 the representative seemed to think there was some additional procedure for coupling the phone and the SIM. I don't know any more about this. Could be misinformation of course.

[Q] Nexus 5 only connects to LTE on T-Mobile

I did some searching around and found a couple of pages with ideas but they have not worked so far. Here's the deal, my son's said his Nexus 5 was getting pretty bad reception so I took a look at it. After some toggling of the network settings I discovered that it will only connect to LTE, not to HSPA(+) or Edge. Where we are, we have somewhat weak LTE (2 of the three towers have been "modernized" with LTE and band 2 HSPA+, one has not and it's slightly closer to us). We have a Cell-Fi repeater so we get strong HSPA+ signal in our house. His sim works fine in a Nexus 4 with the hybrid radio getting Edge, HSPA+ and LTE. My nano sim with adapter that works fine in the Nexus 4 exhibits the same problems in the Nexus 5. I tried formatting the cache from the stock recovery menu and am now looking to do a factory reset since I never did oem unlock this phone so I can't just flash a radio to test.
My gut tells me it's hardware so I have my son rebuilding his phone environment on the Nexus 4 so that we can do a factory reset to see if that helps and I'll unlock it at that point. If it doesn't fix it, I've already started the conversation with the play store. My question is, anyone else seen anything like this? Anything else I should try out?

if lte is in your area, and not a perfect signal, itll still choose to connect to lte by default. if you lose your lte connection, then itll connect to H or 3G, and so on. if you do not want it to connect to lte, go to the phones main settings, mobile networks, then change the preferred network type from lte to 3G. or you can dial *#*#4636#*#*, chose phone info, then change the network type to wcdma preferred.

Thanks for the reply, I understand all that. I don't know if I asked clearly enough or not but the problem we are seeing here is that this particular phone can only connect to LTE which is weak inside my house. So, when it tries to switch over, it just won't connect. I also tried to make a call which will switch to HSPA+ and that too fails. Going to the info menu and selecting WCDMA preferred nets me a phone that won't connect, selecting GSM results in the same. LTE only or GSM/LTE works only if it picks up an LTE signal. Ditto for selecting 2G, 3G or LTE preferred in the Mobile Networks menu. I've also reset the APN's, confirmed that the settings match my MotoX, etc and still no joy.
Just looking for ideas that someone might have that I can try before blowing away all my son's data on a factory reset or, if that fails, hardware replacement.

Yea, according to the nice person I spoke to at the play store, I should indeed qualify for an RMA and I should find out in the next day or so. I purchased the phone new in box from someone and they were able to find the phone and they are now attributing the phone to me.
I am curious about the hardware mod though. Is this just for Edge/HSPA or is it for signal in general? If it's signal in general then I'm not sure I'd want to try it since this phone used to work just fine.

BAFFLED: no LTE, tried everything

(well, everything short of new SIM card)
The situation:
-bought a 32GB N5 from a guy
-I'm on Rogers in Canada
-on Lollipop
-cannot get LTE, only 3G and 4G (H)
-APN is correct
-checked everything in *#*#4636#*#*
-cleared cache
-reflashed facotry image
-tried Cataclysm
SOMETIMES, I'll get "LTE", but it's a phantom - there actually isn't a connection at all.
I've swapped phones many times before; never had an issue. I read in threads someone saying that on AT&T that you need to register IMEI with them to get new device working with LTE. I never had to before, but called Rogers to check if this is something they've started doing.....no.
Under device model, it doesn't say either 820 or 821. It says "Nexus 5"
I started thinking that I stupidly bought the international model off the guy, but then when i was in fastboot mode I saw that it did say 820.
So.............I'm stumped, puzzled and pissed.
Does anyone, ANYONE have suggestions or ideas? Many thanks!
Sanity check but worth investigating:
- Definitely have LTE coverage in your area? I assume other phones around you connect to same LTE network no problem
- Does the SIM connect to LTE in another known working phone?

Yep, coming from my old phone. Have always had coverage in all the areas I've been with this new phone. LTE SIM, LTE area...it SHOULD work, but is not.
Try a new sim at the store, if it doesn't work return it on the spot. No harm, worth a try
Does 3g work? What bands does your carrier run in your area? You might try the diag LTE screen (requires root, there's an app from the Play Store) and see what band it sees. Also have you tried doing a scan of which carriers are available?

3G and 4G work.
I went to Rogers store and got a new SIM. No change.
Same thing...
I'm just posting to let you know I've had EXACTLY the same problem..
Mine occurred after I smashed the screen and sent it away to a company to be repaired. My N5 came back with a new screen, so immediately I upgraded to lollipop...
Then the LTE stopped working. Occasionally the device would say it was connected to 4G but, like you, it didn't work when it showed this. I tried everything, flashing, checking access points, flashing different radios...but nothing worked.
Now I can't work out if the repair company had somehow damaged the 4G antenna when they were fixing the screen. So I sent it back to be repaired (again)
Now i've got it back. 4G works but it has lost a lot of speed. Where I was getting 25mb/sec on average, I now get 10 max.
I've e-mailed the repair centre to find out what they did, but honestly, I've given up a bit now...
Wait, you upgraded to Lollipop? You realize that they included a new radio right? Try reverting modems.

No more LTE connection after upgrading to cm12.

As the title suggests, I no longer have connection to LTE services, beforehand I could get full signals.
I downgraded back to cm11s, and installed the previous XNPH44 modem, still no luck.
I have also tried XNPH33, 30 and 25. I have even tried the ColorOS modem as well as the M9.
Furthermore, I have tried the *#*# secret settings, currently it is on LTE/WCDMA. I can reach H+ connectivity but still not LTE.
I live in Australia, and am with Vodafone. Meaning Band 4 is the one I need to connect to, (1850mhz I think.)
Please advise on what I should try next.
Thanks.

Is your issue similar to this thread or do you simple just not have LTE, only and never get it on CM12?

Thank you!!! I have had my OnePlus One on cm 12s for about a week and the LTE has never worked since I upgraded. Just H+ works. And more than that - it keeps turning the H+ (3G) on and off which I think it's really killing my battery life!!! I have been trying loads of things to get my battery life back to what it used to, huhuhu. Turns out my APN got set to T-mobile somehow! I have Red Pocket mobile GSMT which runs on T-mobile and I always got LTE with it till the upgrade. (I'm in USA.) Just had to switch the APN from T-mobile back to Red Pocket 4G. The LTE works again and never cuts in and out!

OnePlus One fully stock - T-Mobile - no signal/carrier connection 52% of the time

My OnePlus One is on latest cyanogen 12.1, completely stock and unrooted. I am noticing high battery drain on cell stand by (42%)
and of that 52% of the time there is no connection to carrier.
Is there a fix for this issue? My wife's Note Edge (SM-N915G on stock KitKat) has no signal issues with T-Mobile. but my OnePlus One show no connection most of the time. Is this a CM12.1 issue or is this a known issue with OPO and T-Mobile combination?
Appreciate the help.
Which baseband?
This could just be because of where you're located. The OPO only supports one of T-Mobile's LTE bands, band 4, while the Galaxy Note Edge supports all three, including band 12, which has much greater range and building penetration.
All of the recent T-Mobile commercials touting improved coverage area and better building penetration are based off of using band 12 on their newer devices which support VOLTE (voice over LTE). All of their new towers incorporate this band in areas that previously had little or no coverage (especially rural and suburban).
If you're in an outlying area with poor band 4 coverage your handset will be constantly trying to lock in on the weak signal and shifting from 3G, 4G, and LTE. Doing this also greatly reduces data transmission speed and reduces battery life.
If you're in an urban area with strong signal acquisition, then forget what I just said, you have another issue.
Hope this helps.
i used OPO on tmobile and it worked fine, depends on many factors including location, time of day and of course the bands used by the device.

I see from your profile that you reside in the UK. The OP doesn't list his, so I'm operating under the assumption that he's here in the states. My observations and comments in the post above yours, are strictly based on what I know about this device and with T-Mobile USA, as I'm unfamiliar with its operations in other countries.

Cynogen version: 12.1.1-YOG7DAS2K1
Kernel version: 3.4.67-cyanogenmod-g9220ae3
Build: LMY48Y
Will I get better luck on AT&T with OPO?

You might, but I can't say for sure. The OPO supports 2 of the 3 bands AT&T utilizes, band 4 (like T-Mobile) and band 17. So you have more of a chance. Bear in mind, that AT&T is considerably more expensive than T-Mobile and that they have roaming agreements with each other, where if you can't get any signal for telephony you'll roam off the other's network.
Generally speaking AT&T has more coverage, because it's an older more mature company with a more established infrastructure. T-Mobile is more of an upstart, but is rapidly expanding with a newer technology. Like I said in the previous post, explaining why your wife's Note got so much better reception, newer T-Mobile devices which support all 3 LTE bands (2,4, & 12) get better reception and probably twice the coverage than what is possible with the OPO.
I hope this helps explains things.

I see from your profile that you reside in the UK. The OP doesn't list his, so I'm operating under the assumption that he's here in the states. My observations and comments in the post above yours, are strictly based on what I know about this device and with T-Mobile USA, as I'm unfamiliar with its operations in other countries.

yes i do reside in the UK but bought my OPO in the US when i lived there back in 2013 and used it on Tmob. according to the website it works in the UK on Three and EE(tmobile/ orange). i use it on three and get 4g and 3g with no probs. i do like the tmobile usa plan of $40 unlimited all
Since stock 12.1 update, I've noticed mobile network keeps dropping and in return draining the battery quickly.
Thinking it's the update, I've installed custom 12.1 ROM, but the problem persisted.
With further searching, I've found fix here.
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/cos-12-1-non-rooted-user-w-mobile-connectivity-issues.361244/
Goto APN settings, take note of current APN's.
Reset to defaults.
Copy previous APN values to currently selected APN.
Save then reboot phone.
If above doesn't work, try here.

Scroll down to LTE issues and try the method described. Just note that it suggest deleting other APN, but I recommend against it because it can interfere with roaming.

Thanks, so I am not the only one experiencing network connectivity issues. I do suspect this software related to some extent. Will try the fix and report back.
