Volume button hanging loose - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

The volume button popped out suddenly, of my 3-month old device bought from the OnePlus US store.
Will OnePlus replace it since it is so early after purchase?
I came from Pixel and Google definitely did.

I had this problem around Christmas, happened right after I applied a screen protector. I doubt there's any connection. OnePlus refused to replace mine on the basis that I bought it second hand, which is fair enough. They'll probably sort you out.

You got it repaired on your own. Is it easily done? Cost?

I forgot to reply. Luckily my 3rd party vendor was lenient and swapped the device, but in the case of Oneplus, I can't say for certain but I'd expect that they honour your warranty.

I am even afraid to send it - in current circumstances, you never know how many weeks it will be before it comes back.

Nexus 5 warranty replacement really new?

Hey everyone,
I purchased the Nexus 5 back when it was first released. The other day I was using the phone and it all of a sudden rebooted, and became stuck in a boot loop. I called Google and they tried to help, but ended up they couldn't. They are replacing the phone, and the customer service agent told me it would be a brand new phone. He sent me a link to order the phone again, and I went through the process of ordering the phone, it gave an estimated delivery of 3 to 4 weeks. That was yesterday, and today I got an email stating it was shipped.
Since the delivery time went from 3 to 4 weeks to being delivered in 3 business days, this had me wondering if the replacements really brand new or refurbished? Anyone have any experience with returns that might know?
Its brand new.

Are they requiring you to give them the original box and accessories from the defect unit in return for the replacement? Did they say that the replacement will come with new accessories? If not, then I'd assume its refurbished.

The customer service rep told me to remove the phone from the new box and put the old one back in and ship it back. If its one thing I've learned over the years it is that just because the customer service says they ship new ones doesn't mean that it will necessarily happen that way. I was hoping someone who has had to do a replacement might chime in on their experience. Either way I will find out Monday.

I just sent mine in for warranty and they told me the same thing. The phone I received was new in the box. I put my old one back in its original box with original accessories and sent that one back. I ordered my replacement through the link in an email and got it within a week. I placed my order on the 3rd or so of this month. Sounds like yours will be new.
I had my Nexus 4 replaced last year, and then my Nexus 5 a month ago. Google doesn't deal with refurbs, they just send you brand new devices.
Received my replacement yesterday and it was indeed a brand new device. I also received the newer updated model with the larger speaker holes, and the quieter power and volume buttons. My original from release date had a lot of rattle to the volume and power buttons. So, in the end it all worked out for the better.
Based on my experience, it should be a brand new device. However once the production stops for the phone ( Like the Nexus 4) they start giving out refurbs.

Makes me wonder what they do with all the defective ones? I guess they fix them up and have them on standby for when production stops?

A refurb one
I bought my nexus 5 the first day it was available on google play store.
On July my phone suddenly turned off itself and never woke up, when i connected it to the charger, it was in a boot loop, i called google, they tried to troubleshoot me, but we ended up replacing it. They send me a brand new one and i was happy.
Unfortunately, last week i noticed some issues while making calls, i could listen the one i was talking with, but the other end couldn't hear me. I did some tests recording sounds with different apps, but when i reproduce them, i could only hear noise.
My speaker was apparently having problems, don't know if physical or software related, but i needed to call google assistance again. They drive me to make some tests, reboot it in safe mode, restore to factory defaults, but nothing helped. I read some articles and forums and this is a well known problem, but the rep @ google says they aren't aware of it.
In the end, they opted to replace my phone, but this time with a refurbished one, i'm afraid the phone they will send me, could have usage signs like having some scratches like a case a read in a forum. Mine was aesthetically perfect. Maybe they ran out of new phones so they started to warranty replace with refurbished ones...

Yes they only replace N5s with refurbished devices now. They are supposed to be in "as new" condition so if you notice any cosmetic damage you can send it back.

I just went through this myself. In terms of cosmetic issues, you likely have nothing to worry about. My refurb looked like brand new. Unfortunately, the original issue that it was returned to LG for (speaker issues) wasn't fixed by LG. So I'm now waiting on my 2nd refurb in a week.

I just sent in my old Nexus 5 that randomly shut off and got stuck on the boot screen and when trying to go through fast boot to recovery, the recovery was gone... nothing but a black screen.
I received a refurbished 32 gig to replace my old phone. Looks brand new, not a scratch on it. The process couldn't have been any easier.
I received two replacements the month of September, not were 403k, both sealed, with the usual screen protector on them. No signs of usage whatsoever, 100%mint. I bought the phone through Google BTW. I honestly think these are new...

Dead pixel. Having 2nd thoughts.

I've since then requested a return slip via Amazon since I saw a dead pixel last night while watching a video. When the video cut to a black screen, I noticed a tiny little blue dot that was not part of the video. I've confirmed it via some pixel checker apps and it is indeed a dead pixel. This is somewhat an eye opener as to the quality of this phone. I love the phone, but the hardware and even customer support lacks a lot. I've sent numerous emails to customer support with no reply back. And it wasn't even about anything major. It's not just the dead pixel that sparked this thought about returning the phone. As many have said, the tap to wake feature is iffy and only works when it wants.
I'm afraid to try my chances again with this phone, but I've been back to the basics of researching into another device. Gut instincts should've went with the HTC One M9. But the amazing price of this phone was hard to pass up. For anybody who has since returned this phone (and hopefully still lurk this subforum) could you let me know why you returned it and which phone you got to replace it? I might press my luck again and buy it again once I receive my refund. Hoping I get one from another recent batch.
Just an update...I sent back the phone today to Amazon for a full refund and in the meantime I ordered another one just so I can get a replacement quicker rather than having to wait 2-6 days for my refund to show up then order another one, but this time I placed an order through Alcatels main website and during checkout it asked me to select shipping speed and there was Standard, 2 day and 1 day, and for the hell of it I wanted to see how much 1 day shipping was and the total said it was 0.00 and the final cost was still only $249.99 which is the main cost of the phone. I was able to successfully place my order with the 1 day shipping method for 0.00. Not sure if my order will still go through but it will be interesting to see.
You should've stuck with Amazon tho, because if something else happens it easier to go thru Amazon for return then thru Alcatel

Yeah I thought about that after I purchased through Alcatel. Thing is, the phone was shipped via Amazon and it even said so during the checkout process. So if anything goes wrong I might still be able to return it hassle free.

You will not be able to return through Amazon so easily. That's what happened to me when I got this for my wife. We actually had to go through a ton of freaking hoops(according to my wife) to make it happen.
We were supposed to send it straight to alcatel and wait 3 weeks. My wife did her thing (whatever that is) and was able to have them do it through Amazon.

Hmm. Well hopefully this replacement phone won't have any flaws. Right away I noticed the box was in better condition than the last one and it seems the speakers are louder. I must've got one from a new batch because I didn't have to install the startup update since it came preinstalled already. So its a newer device it seems. Oh well. Thanks for your input I'll remember that if I ever have to return it again.

Amazon sucks balls when it comes to getting packages in good condition. Every single thing that I have purchased from them this year so far has come in an extremely damaged box. UPS does not give a crap for sure!!!

I rarely order directly from Amazon's fulfillment just based on their rule of ordering $35 or more for free shipping if I wanted something for only $10. I usually go the third-party route who offer free shipping with reliability. But since Alcatel only uses Amazon's fulfillment center, I had no choice. But yeah my first Idol 3 box was smashed in the corner and had weird water stain marks on the front and sides. I had a feeling it was going to be a defective unit just from the box.

Broken backside on Pixel 3XL

Hey guys.
It started with a Basssound, and then my Pixel 3XL fell off the windowsill....
Today i reached out the repairingcompany from google CTDI in Germany.
I hope the repair will not that expensive. (Hoping for about 200 € without VAT)
Now i'm waiting for the UPS Service who will pick up my phone.
Sorry about your device, was it in a case?
Nope it wasn't.
It was my fault, after all, i should not lay down a phone on a sloping windowsill....
https://www.ubreakifix.com/google-repair/google-pixel-3-xl-repair
Google's recommended vendor says back glass repair is $100 USD (88€)
Screen repair is where the big money is.
A dbrand or slickwraps will cover that up just fine!
Edit: too bad the camera's broken... That's going to add to the $$$.

Oh 100$. I hope the price in europe is that cheap. Let's hope. Today i have still no message from ups.
I don't like covers, because they make phone big an hide the design from the phone itself. But of course i have then to watch for falling phones...
Actually the complete phone is working including the camera. It's just the broken camera glass that make photos look like from an 100$ Phone.
But i don't know if its from the drop or from december update, but there are lacks in the performance which is annoying at the moment. I will see after repairing if the problems are gone.
@MOD Is it possible to delete the strayed c in the title?

Ouch, those pictures literally made me say: "Ohhh, ouch!!" I'm sorry that happened to you... I am assuming you don't keep a case on it? After seeing lots of people complain about how easy it was to scratch the back up I decided to always keep mine in a case.
I wish you all the best and I hope it's not super expensive to get fixed.

I feel your pain...
Ordered mine on launch day and three days after having it I knocked it out of my hand, it was in a Spigen thin fit case which is really no protection. Completely my fault, I knew better than to hold it when I was doing what I was doing at the time.
Face first on a brick floor. Screen shattered, I'm glad I got the Preferred Care. $99.00 US and they shipped me a brand new one. At least I got to keep all the accessories from the first one and only had to send back the phone itself.

Nice! I always worry about being sent a refurbished device when they claim to send you a new one. I don't know if Google does that or not, but, I know other companies do and it's pretty frustrating. I have major OCD when it comes to new vs. not.
Good Luck!

So, i hope it will not broken anymore...

Google extends warranty for power related issues

It looks like Google has started admitting there are hardware problems with the 4XL. They now are extending the warranty to cover power related issues, though there doesn't seem to be widespread awareness of this new extended warranty.
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/10169830
I already had to get my phone replaced once after experiencing a "battery stuck at 50%" problem, so I'm glad they are extending this warranty. But it certainly doesn't make me feel confident about my 4XL quality.
While I haven't had any power issues (yet), and I've waterbed the daily life is Mr battery by making heavy use of focus mode, this is still good news.
From Coral, with Tapatalk.
My P4XL wouldn't take a charge or turn on and drained fast just prior to. I took it to the repair center and they fixed it within an hour or so. I just hope they replaced stuff with ones that won't fail again... I am hoping they used different battery, etc. for any new purchases, too.
Thanks for the PSA. Luckily I haven't had any issues yet, but it's always been a very minor concern in the back of my mind.
The only thing that really gets to me is that I got an "unlucky" shipment from Amazon with a red sticker... basically them passing it off as brand new when someone actually bought it and returned it immediately. I didn't bother going for a replacement because of timing with switching carriers, but now that I checked my warranty status just now, it says it ends November 2020 (it should be March 2021, since that's when I bought it). So now I only have until November 2021 to not worry about battery problems, instead of March 2022. I just hope if it becomes a problem between Nov 2021 and Mar 2022, I can show Google my Amazon invoice and they work with me.
Anyway, rant over, thanks for the info. =)

Replaced just last month due to a "no power on" issue
The cause was dropping my phone.
Despite being in an OtterBox Defender, it landed on an edge from ~ 5' height and cracked the glass back next to the camera array. No damage to the metal surround, which was interesting but what was more interesting was that the phone had powered off and that was it. It would not power on again and would give no feedback that it could recognize when it was connected to USB-C either to a charger or computer.
It didn't take much pleading with a Google agent online that the issue was sudden, unexpected and unwarranted under the circumstances. I got a brand new replacement phone in two weeks. :good:
I just bought mine on a black Friday deal and have had no problems so far but I had a 6p so if it's better than that I'll be happy.
If it's only a battery issue?
Zo0
I have this exact problem. I charge it over night and now stuck at 50%. I will be contacting them soon for my second replacement (first was face unlock issue).
Got the problem on 12/12, 2-nd handed out of warranty device.
Messaged service center on 12/12 to make sure I'm eligible for the replacement (tons of SOP to check symptom), started RMA process request 12/13, got approve to do RMA on 12/14.
I've returned my defected device on 12/17(today), and the newly replacement shall arrive today(12/17).
My new phone seems stuck in airport. I little bit too long.... A little bit lonely without 4XL though...
Thanks for posting this. I remember reading it when you posted. I just contacted Google and they denied it's existence. Interestingly, when I type the exact phrase of the warranty extension page into google search, it doesn't pull it up lol. Even if I search using quotation marks. It's hidden from google search. I had to search for this post to find it.
Edit- the live chat agent actually said, it was probably "fake news" and I told him I didn't see it on CNN

I started having this problem yesterday. I bought the phone in May 2020. Does anyone know if having unlocked bootloader affects this extended warranty protection? Thanks.

No, but you need to talk to Google before taking the phone in. I had to talk with two people and send pictures before they would authorize.
My RMA'd replacement (refurb) Pixel 4XL has a swollen battery and Google is going to replace it out of warranty. I first purchased the phone new on November 29th 2019. About a year later, wireless charging stopped working and when I took the phone case off I noticed the battery had swollen and the back glass had separated from the frame around the volume rocker buttons. I talked with Google and after explaining the same thing to 2 people and sending half a dozen photos they agreed to replace my phone September 21th, 2020. Fast forward to today. Now the refurbished warranty phone has done the exact same thing. Wireless charging stopped working, battery swollen, only this time it is worse. The back glass is separated from the power button all the way down the frame to the bottom of the phone. Google first told me the phone was out of warranty but then offered to replace it any way. I was given two options, one of which is cross-shipping the device to me and then I use their box and packing to send the old one back. They pay shipping both ways. They will place a hold on my credit card, but it came off quickly last time when my old phone was received. I never brought up the extended warranty and neither did they. They just gave me the date my warranty had expired on, and then said they were going to replace it anyway.

Hey thanks for the feedback. I actually had taken it to ubreakifix here locally and they fixed under warranty, didn't even ask about the unlocked bootloader. Had to wait a week for them to order a battery, apparently they're seeing a lot of these recently.

Glad to hear you got yours repaired free. Hopefully Google has sorted out their battery supply vendors -and- quality control so the new Pixels will not experience battery issues. It's been a real problem for them since the Nexus 6P.

Connectivity issues with pixel 5

Hi I have the pixel 5. I seem to be having serious connectivity issues with this phone. I have a replacement unit on the way. But I wanted to know if this is a common problem with this phone.
When I moved into my current residence I was using the nexus 6p and I have had every pixel xl in the line up to my current pixel 5. All phones were on Google Fi. I never had issues with connection till I got the 5. My wife's phone is the pixel 3a xl and she will have almost full service while mine has none at all.
It is weird. I will be on 5g then it will drop service and sometimes It will show that the phone has reception and say 5g but the little x is in the reception box. Signal spy will say I'm connected to TMobile but I get nothing. And yes we have decent 5g and strong lte here. As I said above my wife's pixel 3a xl gets almost full lte service. I don't know if it's because 5g is still new or if it's because of the downgraded processor maybe. Anyway is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have any possible solutions to this? I am thinking that maybe the phone is getting stuck on 5g when it should go to lte. So I am going to try shutting 5g off using the dialer menu.
uBreakiFix replaced my motherboard after it bricked about a month ago. Before that I had no problems at all. Now my proximity sensor is always on and I lose signal several times a day. A reboot helps, but only for a while.

Hey Jimsmith did you have issues with connectivity before they replaced your motherboard? Also I gotta be honest I know ubreakifix is a authorized repair shop but I was not impressed with their work. I had a new battery put in my nexus 6p and it did nothing to fix the problem I also had a new motherboard put in my galaxy s2 and I had problems with it. But go figure I went to a little shop near my house and had a new screen put on my note 2 and one of my galaxy s5's and it worked great with no problems. After my issue with the nexus 6p I have always gotten the extended device protection from fi. Now google fixes my issues. I recommend doing that.

No problems at all prior to the motherboard replacement. I finally got around to calling the store that replaced it and they said to contact Google. They couldn't find the new motherboard's IMEI in their system so now I have to go back to the store to have them inspect it, create another work order, and put the IMEI into Google's shared database.
The motherboards are severely backordered. It took them 12 days to get the first one and they said it's months long now! I'm going to insist on a replacement, I just hope it won't be refurbished.

How long you have the phone? There is a 1 year RMA I believe. But be careful I only have this phone for 2 months and they tried telling me I had to pay a deductible for my device protection. I had to say wait a minute device protection is for when you make a.mistake and cause issues with the phone like when I dropped my pixel 3a in a bowl of soup woopsie that's my fault not there's. But my pixel 5 came out of the box went into a speigen cases.with a speigen screen protector and stayed that way. I didn't drop, bang, smack, drop in water or anything else. Therefore I want a manufacturer warranty not device protection.
I only know because my wife is in customer service and she always says the more you are a **** the more you get what you want. So I tried that and I was respectful but 5old them how I feel and got what I believed I deserve. I think they call that being assertive or something right?
Did you get the phone from Google store or from Fi or one of the carriers or a third party seller? Because that matters too. Good luck I hope you get it sorted out brother.

I bought it last November from Best Buy. Google had no problem fixing it under warranty for being bricked, and the warranty still lasts for a year from purchase. I have sent the requested information to Google and am waiting for the replacement authorization to complete and my hopefully new phone to ship.
