open beta or stable - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

What's the better option to go with thanks.

That is purely up to you! Do you understand the pro's and con's of running a BETA build? You might get the latest features...along with the latest bugs. If you can live with shaky software on a device that you may rely upon for very important daily things...then go for it.
However, if your device is vital to your communications as well as other important daily things, then I recommend stable. Of course even with stable you may get some bugs. I run only stable on my 7 Pro and I have virtually no issues at all. YMMV

I run stable as DD and have no bug's to speak of. But the beta is a good program...

Beta is usually a month or two ahead of stable in terms of bug fixes and new features...but ahead on new bugs also..

Which is the best ROM at the moment?

I'm wondering for the g-tablet what the "best" ROM is at the moment and why you think so. Seems like TnT Lite was the one last updated from what I can tell so that's an advantage. I'm partial to cyanogen though since it's what I used on my phone. Just wondering what others thought and if any of them are more stable or have some better feature than another.

I've tried Cyan 7 beta 1 and TnT Lite 4.1 and TnT Lite 4.1 is faster and seemingly stable within the time period that I used it. Cyan 7 beta 1 is nice, but it feels a bit slow and it's not final, of course so you'd have to factor in possibly wiping the device to install a more current version when it does become stable. Haven't tried the others out of seeing other users having issues and installs borking people's tablets.
If I had to choose a 'best' right now, which of course may be premature not seeing the rest, but I'd pick TnT 4.1 for the few simple facts that it seems close enough to stock (I like being close to stock) and it feels quick and works very well from what I've seen. It didn't have the lag issue and didn't crash.
Of course I'm also sort of being a hypocrite because I only tend to stay on ROMs for a day or 2 and then go back to stock because of all the issues I see people reporting with even "stable" ROMs and since I don't have nor have ever encountered dire trouble on stock.
Ide Choose Vegan 5.1 Beta Becouse Honestly I Dont really Like TnT at all. Vegan 5.1 B Is fast and pretty stable. Cyanogen has bugs but it looks like it will have somthing sooner or later so for now ide go with Vegan or if you preffer TnT. They Are the most stable atm.
I tried all three and Vegan 5.1 Beta seemed to be the most stable and quickest. I'm sticking with it until gingerbread is out.

seconded, I also have tried all three. Vegan seems to be the best for daily use with the updated kernel.

Nightly Builds

What is the purpose of a nightly (high frequency of updates) build?
I'm currently using AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB233 CM7, but used to use HD2ONE v3.6.
Apart from rapid updates, why not just release something monthly that might not have as many bugs as the nightly release? HD2ONE seemed stable enough, less the bluetooth, but a good deal of updates form AmiCanAndroid seem to need special tweaking.
I'm not entirely new here. I've been using android on my HD2 for a while and pretty much understand how to get myself up and running. So I'm trying to post for access to the developers forum, but with some legitimate questions here in the Q&A...
Nightly builds are just a progression of the development process from one Release Candidate to the next. It's a way of incorporating and then testing new fixes and features as they become available.

[Q] whats the difference between CM7 and nightlies

not entirely sure whats the difference between the two?

I'm a sense guy,so not much exp. with cm. My foggy memory believes that cm7(rc for release canidate) is ready for everyday use public consumption. Nightlies are built by(here's where my memory goes! Gimme a break I'm old!) a bot which fixes and changes things, which may or may not break other things. That about the extent of my knowledge on this. The experts on this should be on they're way. lol
I'm no expert but the cm7 stable is android 2.3.3 the cm7 rc-1 is 2.3.4 the latest nightlies are 2.3.5.. I recommend the nightlies, they are more stable in many ways than the stable version of.. The latest is #179

This is standard software development stuff.
"Nightlies" are like alpha level software containing the absolute latest bug fixes and new features for an existing program with little or no testing outside of the developers. Whether the various features and fixes are compiled by a daemon or not is irrelevant. Some nightlies are very stable with few bugs, some are bug riddled garbage. I'm currently using the CM7 nightly from 9-1, and I've found it to be very stable and only had one or two small issues.
The experimental releases are release candidates, which is just a friendly term for a late stage beta. Generally, they may contain more bugs than what should be released, but the developers released them into the wild because they believed the to be close to ready for release and needed more people would test them.
A Stable version is just that, stable. It has been extensively tested and either has no bugs, or has only minor bugs that have all been well documented.
Which should you use?
You've got a few sensible options.
a. Stick to stable releases. You'll miss out on the latest and greatest developments, but your shift will be as stable and reliable as possible.
b. Install every nightly as they come out. (they don't actually come out every night, we haven't had a new one since 9-1) If you get a bad one, which happens, just roll back to the last one that worked for you. You will spend a lot of time messing with your phone and will have to deal with bugs, but you'll always get to try out the latest and greatest. Just be sure that when you have bugs, you share useful bug reports with the developers.
c. Start with the stable. If you find there are things broken that you don't want to miss, go through the changelogs and forums to find a more or less stable nightly that has what you're missing and move to it. Stay there until there's another stable release.
wow thank you guys for the usefull information. I'm normally a sense rom guy so this is kinda a new ball game for me. I decided to go with this due to I hear its way faster and has more space .

[Q] Are CM10 nightlies better than stable?

Just a quick question. The stable CM10 for our vzd2w devices is dated for 11-13-2012. I feel I should know this, but I am wondering, are the nightlies, say, for today, 12-08 more stable than the stable candidate released almost a month ago?
Is that the point of nightlies? To fix bugs and improve anything on previous candidates?
Do nightlies sometimes present with new issues/bugs?
Again, I know I should know this, but I NEED clarification as a search of any kind leads me to the nightly download site or ROMs based on the nightly releases. These questions are not addressed.
Thanks for your replies!!

In general the nightlies are completely usable. They are used as a means for the cm10 team to test new features, and attempt to squash bugs. With software development when changes are made it is not uncommon for new and unforseen bugs to arise, its sort of a game of cat and mouse. Because of this, every so often things that had worked fine previously become broken in one nightly and are then promptly fixed in the next. For the last month or more the cm10 nightly builds have suffered from a host of bluetooth, microphone, nfc, and screen wake issues that seem to vary in severity from one nightly to the next. Some of these problems have been found to have flashable fixes, others do not. For many, myself included, this is the simply the price of being on the cutting edge of Android development. If this doesn't sound appealing then perhaps the stable builds are the way to go. Keep in mind that although the stable builds tend to be more reliable, they do have their fair share of bugs and glitches, some of which have since been sorted out on the nightlies. Either way cm10 is a far slicker experience than touchwiz, and in my opinion, the way to go. Just an fyi, I have dirty flashed one nightly to the next without incident, and if thats the route you decide to go it could save you some time.
i think stable is better... nightlies can work or not, so hit and miss....
I have personally never had a problem with the CM10 nightlies, and I have been using them for a couple of weeks now. But your experience may vary depending on your setup.
Good rule of thumb is if you're not prepared to deal with any issues that could arise then stick with stable. I always seem to have a few builds on my SD card and a titanium backup in case things really go sideways on me.
It depends on what your priorities are with this phone. For example the same 11/10 nightly was the last one without the bluetooth low bass bug, but but the 12/06 and newer nightlies have improved data drops for a bunch of people. If you rely on mobile data a lot the 12/08 nightly might be the one for you to try, but if you do a lot of bluetooth streaming then maybe the 11/10 nightly would work best for you.

CM10
I switch from ICS to CM10 nightlies, which was for the most part a great daily driver. Then I flashed the new Jellybean leak and battery life was great (50% more than CM10) but I lost bluetooth. Last CM10 I used was in mid October. Has the battery life improved in the last 2 months?

Stable rom Vs Beta weekly

Hello everyone,i have a question..The weekly beta use same firmware like the stable one or another?
Weekly is more updated than stable or have less staff than stable?
I care more about camera for example,as i saw on stable it gaves now update to camera that is based on DXOmark testings, but on beta doesnt said something about camera update on changelog...
Anyone know and could answer?
Thank you in advance!
Uh... What beta?
I am using eu beta right now,but doesn't matter since EU it's just a debloated rom with more languages I mean it's same like Chinese beta
It's far more than just debloat but I'm not posting the changelist for the third time just for people to ignore it.

I don't quite understand sorry
Stable is the public version with the least issues
Weekly is basically a Dev build for testing and advanced users
Only you know how you use your phone. Stable is fine for 99% of users
The staff are the same, developers are developers. Weekly is just what eventually becomes stable if it works right.
... Sorry if I haven't understood but this is basic concepts

Change log is not the same on beta and on stable. So different things on beta and different on stable? I mean about basic things like camera latest update, and gpu staff.

They're different ROMs essentially so yes different changelog
What happens is this
-same developers work on features.
Each week: Oh these features are ready!
These become the weekly ROM.
Each month (or whatever): Oh these features are ready AND TESTED AND STABLE
So if you use the weekly just be aware not everything is perfect. You will be one of the first to use it
Stable is meant to be good. Sure bugs still happen
If you have any questions now? You need to be on Stable. Just to avoid disappointment!
If it was up to me I'd call Weekly the Preview Version with a warning.
And Stable needs to be Stable.

I don't mind about some small bugs..i mind about basic things that shouldn't miss. I mean why to remove something that was working before?

That shouldn't happen.
If something is removed there's a reason.
With that level of question though you need a developer's answer!
It's easy for me to say it shouldn't happen but I wouldn't want a bad ROM out there.
I hope this helps. I don't know what else to say. The Xiaomi.eu forums are very helpful just like here I am there too. The difference is 1) they own it ,so 2) you have developers reading the threads
You don't need to worry about it really. Just rely on the stable version.
End of the day.. the stable version is either good enough or not.
We all have different needs (I don't play games or use banking apps)

Its a small minus but why to remove it..not that is something important and can't live without that..
More important is the bank app that is freezing and once the gallery app that freeze too..
But.. hopefully they will fix them.
Anyway let's hope next update won't have issues at all
