dead zone on touch screen? - Moto Z4 Questions & Answers

I noticed that when typing, (doesn't matter which keyboard) when I press the keyboard side keys, E.G. "P" or "L" they lag a tiny bit and when long-pressing, they take longer to recognize the keys.
Am I the only one noticing the glitch on the sides of the screen?
I've gotten two devices, and tested a demo model at Best buy and I found the same issue on all three.
It isn't that bad but I'd love to figure it out

Mine doesn't seem to have this problem even with a tg screen protector, i'll check at my local best buy to see if their demo model has the same problem whenever i have the chance.

I need to go check the displays near me then lol see if it's been fixed

I know this thread is old and dead but I noticed this too and personally I think it could be a bug/feature of Gboard, thinking like palm rejection on a laptop, it has that slight delay to reduce false inputs from your fingers touching the screen just holding the phone.
It might be worth it to try a different keyboard.

Using Hacker's Keyboards here. I noticed it with the A key. I have a theory that Moto Gestures is catching the signal first and then releasing after ms.

Touch Sensitivity

Hey is anyone elses GTab's touch sensitivity kind of off?
I noticed, compared to the iPad and Galaxy Tab, some times it takes me 2-4x of tryinng to press something to get it going.
Its almost like the screen cant pick it up sometimes. And sometimes when scrolling, it selects things, when im just Trying to scroll..
Also the top left HOME button on screen is always iffy, most times ill need 2-4 more times 2 press it to get it going.
I am using TNT 2.2.
Anyone else noticed this? i feel like its hardware.
Definetely not as responsive as my EVO. Maybe its the cheap screen. I wish it could be fixed via software, but fat chance. I guess not all capacitive screens are created equal.

You nailed it. IMO Samsung has been making the best color screens for years.
Have had absolutely no problems with touchpad responsiveness from my gTab... Just as sensitive and responsive as my Dinc.
Really does seem like this hardware is hit or miss... Some tabs have no issues some have many.
You guys are just plain spoiled. I've gone through Palm IIIx to now the gTablet, and it just simply has the most responsive touch screen that I've ever used, but I've had recent experience with the dreadful Augen GT and the slightly less dreadful White Pandigital Novel, both of which had worse touch screens than other devices that I've used.
One thing that I do, do for the gTab though is to clean the screen quite a bit. At a minimum I do so before every use as I find the fingerprint/body oils buildup to be annoying in fairly short order and it might have some impact on touch responsiveness. It's the worst fingerprint magnet that I've ever seen actually...
No issues here with single touch sensitivity, pretty good on that. Just as good as my Nexus One. Multitouch and pinch-to-zoom still a bit flaky. I am hopeful that will be resolved by software and/or driver improvements, as it was on the Nexus One.
The only issues I have are when the screen is too dirty or too clean. When I really scrub and clean the glass off entirely, at first it's a bit too "sticky" almost when my finger contacts it - maybe that's because it's winter here in the Northeast and my skin is dry. Once I've used it a bit and it gets some finger grease on it, it works perfectly. But if it gets grit or solid dirt on it, that can definitely interfere with the touch screen too, as with any capacitive screen.
I suspect the optimal thing would be a really good screen protector that's easy to clean and has that smooth finger contact feeling out of the box, like the iPad's glass does, for example, which I think has something to do with the oleophobic coating.
Typing this on my gtablet. The issue for me is the keyboard. There are parts of the screen that are unresoonsive making some letters not get tapped. The A key and l keys in particular. As a result I can't type smoothly or naturally because I will make several errors along the way. This does not happen onky iphone or my wires ipad.
it might bemy rrleason for sending it back as it takes too ongoing totyr correctly and I get tire d of all the corrections.
Well if your using the stock tnt keyboard, it sucks. We can learn from the ipad, with the size of the screen it has huge keys that cover a lot more of the screen then our stock tnt keyboard. I use smart keyboard pro with the key heights set to maximum and it works so much better, like 100x better. Even has voice to text.
Can people check their keyboard? I find that if I type most of the keys they type fine. However, the letter a key seems to only work when pressed offcenter which prevents. From typing properly as I must deliberately slow down and make sure it is correctly typed otherwise I get many errors. Could this be a defect in my screen?
Or is this a ui problem with tnt?
This could be a deal breaker as I misspelled every word if. Has h letter A
Letter A
I have the same problem with the letter A, and sometimes P. Otherwise touch is great
Figured why this tablet is driving me nuts. There are two dead zones on this tablet. Someone please do this test so I can figure out if this is just my tablet or all g tablets.
Download mulitouch vis test. Do rapid light touches in the area where the 'a' key is and delete key are. If I do this test in the middle of the screen it registers every single tap. But in those two areas I can sometimes tap 10 times in a row and not have a single tap register.
If this all g tablets then I think it's going back.
Also is there a keyboard with arrow keys? Trying to place the cursor can be a real pain.
Agreed bout the dead spots. The stock tap n tap western keyboard seems tominimize them due to the angles but if I try another keyboard I miss the a and the return button all the time

Downloaded the app as well because I, too, am having the same screen non-responsiveness issue. Lo and behold the area where the "L" key is is a pretty dead spot. It would register about 40% of the quick taps I did in that area. Is this is a software issue? If so, I can live with it and hope our wonderful devs release a software build that resolves this otherwise, this thing may be going back because it's driving me up the wall!
I do see the occasional missed tap here and there, but no consistent dead areas that I've noticed (the A and L buttons on keyboard seem fine to me).
Multitouch sensitivity is wayyyyy mis-calibrated though - you have to use very heavy finger presses to get multitouch to register. This is some sort of driver or calibration issue that should be easily solved.
I found a binary called TSCalibration in the /system/bin directory on my VEGAn ROM G Tablet. Tried running it from terminal, but it seems to be looking for a calibration.ini file on the SDCard. I'd be willing to bet we could figure out how to fix some of the touchscreen issues with some work, because I suspect they are principally software related.
If your issues with the touchscreen are anything like this...exchange it...
My new one requires very little effort if any at all to get the screen to respond...
However, if you're talking about the once in a while miss of a touch...yes, I agree with cutterjohn....you're spoiled. Return the device asap, so I could pick it up from an outlet...please?

There is a big difference between these dead spots and the occasional miss. I have no problem with the occasional miss. I just have to adjust to how my finger touches the tablet to get more consistent hits.
There are areas of my tablet that consistently do not behave like the other areas. Does that sound normal to you? I can't have a tablet where anything in the 2 corners is extremely inconsistent. If I have the tablet oriented a certain way the soft-buttons get put into one of the bad corners and that is really frustrating.
I don't think it is how I am holding it because the problem follows the physical corners and it is not relative to my hand. So that rules that out. And I washed my hands and gave the tablet a good cleaning so dirt/grease/grime is not an issue either. It could have been too clean but why only two corners?
I have many weeks to go on my 30 days so I will keep screwing with it to see if I can come up with anything that is a workaround or explains why it is happening. It is insanely fast and it's modding future looks extremely bright with such talented people. If I get fed up enough, I'll exchange it and hopefully get one with a even touch response for the whole screen or simply return it and wait a couple more months for Honeycomb tablets.

Whoa. That video was pretty bad. While mine is not like that (thank God), I just tried hitting the app drawer key and it only registered after the 13th tap?!?! seriously wtf. While it isn't a "dead zone" per se, that's still pretty bad. There has to be a software fix to recify this issue with the right side of the screen. (my "L" and "delete" button are pretty bad as well).
THAT is a defective product...
I'll do another video to compare with my new one...WITH funky assed salty sweat all over the screen. Works flawlessly...
Is your model that is working well running stock firmware and keyboard?
mine is tent lite and the stock keyboard is ok. It if I try to use the alternative keyboards then I get consistent misses on key presses especially on the letter a.
I'm always tapping *constantly*, like 10-20 times on certain spots around the corners and edges of the screen, I'm about to return mine because of this.. Believe I'm still in the 2 weeks with office depot, will have to go snag the $350 one over at sears and hopefully it will come with a screen protector this time (this one I have didn't come with one, wonder if that has to do with the dead spots)..

N8010: serious touchscreen / display bug, probably affecting whole batch / model

Hi,
I made this video to demonstrate a rather serious Galaxy Note 10.1 Bug
that i've encountered on two devices, bought from two separate stores.
The first device was a Note 10.1 N8010 with Jelly Bean, the second (the
one on the video) is a Note 10.1 N8010 with Ice Cream Sandwitch.
Transcript:
Hi.
I have in front of me a brand new Galaxy Note 10.1.. its a WIFI-model
N8010. With brand new i mean i bought it a couple of hours ago--here is
the recepit.
I already bought a Galaxy Note 10.1, same type and model.. about 6
Months ago, but its touchscreen suffered from a very weird
touchscreen-bug that was somewhat difficult to reproduce. When I tried
to return the first model, the device went away for almost 3 months and
when I got it back the bug was still there.
Since I was using the device mainly for writing assignments and taking
notes (thats why i bought it in the first place) i gave it back and went
to another store to buy a new one, hoping that the first place will give
me my money back. I needed the device urgently and it was, like i said,
3 months and I had to make a decision.
Well, as it turns out, though, the new device, the one you can see here,
has the same bug.. and I'm going to demonstrate it now.
Right now, as you can see, the device is not in a sane state.. and the
display hasn't turned off since I started speaking. The 2, well, the 4
dots, here, here, here and here.. this one is shaking.. the 4 dots are
supposed to indicate touch activity but are rather ghost-dots caused by
mentioned bug. Here for example is another dot.. I can make several of
them.. I can use a couple of fingers.. and.. this dot is caused by my
hand, the other ones by said bug. I can't do anything right now.. I
can't press on any of these buttons.. I can't call the menu, I can't
switch the homescreen left or right.. I can't drag the.. this thing
here, whatever its name is.. touch input is pretty much impossible.
How do you cause this bug? It's pretty simple.. you roll the palm of
your hand over the display. I can demonstrate this.. I can already
demonstrate this on the lockscreen, doesn't matter.. now, there are 3
dots.. and again.. well, lets try that one again.. now we see 4 dots..
and I can't unlock the lockscreen with my finger. I can though do it
with my pen. Alright.. like i said, you roll the palm of your hand over
the display.. angle and corner don't matter.. current application in
the foreground don't matter either. When this state is active.. it's
going to be almost impossible, I already mentioned that, to use
touch-input.. and with almost I mean there are certain situations where
touch-input will partially work.. but in most cases it won't. Like
you've seen the pen works in this state.. and sometimes, but just
sometimes, it will reset said state. I'm not sure.. I'm still not able
to use touch properly.. yeah, i'm still not able but the pen still
works. Let's reproduce it one more time.
If you want to reset this state your only option is to turn off the
display.. there you go. This bug occurs on ICS and JB.. this device here
has ICS, thats 4.0.4 and my last device, the one that i wanted to give
back.. is running JB 4.1.2, i think. (...) This bug is a show stopper
for everyone who'd like to use this device for lots of writing.. and
it's also a trouble maker since the repair-guys have a hard time
reproducing it, even if you provide them with a comprehensive video.
Now, I hope this video will reach someone who has the necessary access..
because, i don't know, either I'm very, very lucky and get my hands on
two exceptional devices with the exact same bug or this affects the
whole batch or every such model.
I can show perhaps a couple of other apps if the device will let me..
which it won't right now.. Its probably time to use the pen. For
example S-note.. pen works.. touch doesn't.. it's the same story, it
doesn't depend on the application or lockscreen or mainscreen, whatever.
Let me repeat: In this state, when you see these dots, the display will
never dim or go to sleep.. so if you write something and you don't
realize that the device is in such a state.. and you go somewhere for a
couple of hours.. you will come back and you will see that the display
never turned itself off and that you lost lots of battery.
If you want to contact me, i provided my address below (...) thanks for
watching."

I don't know what kind of help anyone's going to be able to provide. It's either a s/w problem which if you've hard reset the device and it's still there indicates a h/w problem. There's been some strangeness on particular regional versions of s/w. For example, different S Note versions have had various problems and different versions are shipped in different regional ROMs. You said two Note's you've had have the same problem though which doesn't make sense if one was ICS and one JB which means they were manufactured at different times so not from the same batch. Are you using a case with magnets in it? Some people have reported strange display issues when the Note's near magnets which causes electromagnetic interference.
The Note's been out since August and sold in the millions and this is the first this type of issue's been reported. So, to your point, maybe there was a batch of bad displays that got out and all ended up in whatever region you live in. Or all versions of your region's s/w has some type of display driver bug. Mine (from August) has no touch issues either via the pen or capacitive touches and I enabled "show touch" in the developer's settings to test it. It's also a pretty obvious issue so if it were common others would have commented or posted also.
The latest 4.1.2 s/w for the N8010 is for the Nordic Countries and was released in March. From your accent I'm guessing you're in the EU. The Nordic ROM is multi-CSC so can be used on any EU N8010. You might want to try installing it via Odin to see if it changes anything.

No, what you've seen in the video was just taken out of the box. There was nothing close or attached, just a tablet and two laptops on a table. The problem was initially reproducible in two different cities on several separate addresses.

Yes.. and that was pretty much the only reason why I was so convinced that my device was faulty and went out to get another one in order to get back to work as soon as possible. When touches are shown, yes. Otherwise, hell no.. it took me months to figure out what was wrong. I blamed all possible things for the various gitches that were a direct result of this bug.. mostly the apps I was using. When the touch-input freezes started to occur on a daily basis I started to debug.. which isn't that productive when you're not root. In the end I stumbled over the "show touches" option and was lucky that such an option even exists.

Do you maybe know how to get in touch with samsung? Just in case the retail stores decide to give me a hard time..
I briefly experienced this issue while using my Note 10.1 in a place I don't usually use it (my brother's desk instead of my own). I was able to reproduce the issue many times by placing my palm on the screen just as in the video above.
Strangely enough, I haven't been able to reproduce the issue since that first time. I use my Note 10.1 in a number of different places (lecture halls, library, home desk, etc.), but can't seem to make it happen again.
I'm running a rooted, deodexed stock rom (4.1.2) on a NT-8013.
me too
Don't worry, you aren't crazy, I get this too.
I'm convinced its caused by pressure on the display components. My reasons are the following:
If i roll my palm across the screen relatively lightly (but still with enough pressure for the device to respond to normal touches) this never happens.
However as soon as i apply a littly more pressure I can replicate this problem every time. (To those reading thinking that I am putting an unreasonable amount of pressure on the device - I am not! I see people much more violent with their tablets day to day with no issue)
Furthermore, the more pressure I apply the longer the touches will stay after i remove my hand, suggesting that the device is kind of uncompressing.
Finally the area in which this is worst* there are some small LCD 'Mura' - that is light spots on the screen you can only see from some angles, these are normally the result of pressure.
I dont know about you guys but my note is pretty creaky, I would guess that there simply isnt enough rigidity to protect the screen components from stresses caused by pushing down on the device. (Note that i dont get this problem usually unless the device is sitting flat on its back.)
Dont get my wrong, I love my note and these issues are fortunately only an uncommon annoyance for me during typical use. But, this is kind of ****ty build quality and i will have reservations about buying another device from samsung.
*(e.g. if i roll my hand across the screen this is the most common area for a touch to 'stick')

What's your typical use? My typical use was writing and said bug made that very inconvenient. It basically prevented me from using touch-input after writing only a couple of lines..
Maybe a short update: I returned the second device, got my money back, and sent the first device once again to $REPAIR_GUYS, this time with a link to the video above.
I'm also thinking about buying a Note 8 if I get refund for the first device.
Bottom line: The tablet was supposed to replace all the cumbersome paper I have to deliver every week and I'm out of a working device since end of january. A huge waste of money, time, time and time.

Yeah if it wasn't for the pen I bet most people would have gone for something more sturdy/better screen/stock android.
It literally is the only device which can do annotation anywhere near properly though so Its a matter of priorities.

Typical use has been taking lecture notes for several hours a day, managed a years worth of university with it, and while its not perfect
it did save my back from having to lug around lots of books and notes.
I would guess that this issue is present on all devices, just at differing scales. Hopefully you can find one where it is at a level that doesn't
bother you, though I wouldn't blame you for giving up and avoiding Samsung from now on, must be a right pain.

I would say that if you are planning on using the note 8 for lots of writing, maybe try it in store first, its probably way too small for any prolonged period, I find the 10.1 cramped and I have relatively small hands/writing. (Not helped by the fact the pen digitizer gets weird towards the edges of the screen)
Anyways, good luck!

I never really used the whole screen for writing for various reasons:
1. the pen is not precise somewhere around the middle of the screen
2. the pen is not precise at the edges (as you mentioned)
Reason 2 is something all wacom digitizers seem to share (I remember watching a guy on youtube demonstrating the "edge-effect" on the note and two other, professional wacom devices), reason 1 I can't explain.
Anyway, I always ended up just using the upper half of the screen and that's basically the main reason why I think it wouldn't make much of a difference. But on the other hand my gut tells me that you could be right.
Right now I can't shake the feeling that the note is just some random entity in Samsung's massive brute-force output. Never mind the details or the quality, after 5 different pen-tablets the fifth iteration will be just fine. Sounds a lot like Agile SW development.. just with hardware.
Same problem, demonstrated by someone else:
Have two tablets stock and no root. I have none of the described bugs and these 2 tablets are solid and very well built. Solid as any tab that I have owned. That is a strange problem and probable a batch built on Friday about quiting time.
None of those issues could have been reproduced on my Note 10.1 (GT-N8000) from Germany. Mine was bought in October 2012.

Yep, all three had the same issue.
At first I thought the screen bug was from the tablet getting too hot while sketching (SketchBook). The tablet was pretty warm, not uncomfortable to touch or anything. Possibly overheating?
While streaming Netflix, the touch dots would randomly appear and not go away. The tablet wasn't warm like before when I was sketching and it wasn't even being touched.
Still tempted to try another one, i did love it when it was working and there aren't any other android devices sporting the wacom digitizer
Update:
After almost four months, some Samsung technician/representative reluctantly decided to issue a refund. Reluctantly because, and I quote, out of 100 times he tried to reproduce the bug demonstrated in not one but two videos.. he succeeded only once.
Not really satisfying but, oh well, if they dont give a f.., I won't either.
Any updates
Hi
I bought this Note for my girlfriend as a Christmas gift. She's loaded a few apps and mainly uses it to look up stuff on the web, FaceBook and things like that. The issue is the screen starts twitcihing and types random letters and will switch pges and change settings. I did a factory reset via the reset option in the settings tab. That did not help. I will post a video tonight showing the issue. Are there any other option out there??!!
Thanks

Touchscreen fixed with better USB cord on Note 10.1 2014
I have the same issue on Note 10.1 2014 SM-P605.
I've tried changing apps, dozens of keyboard settings, device covers, screen protectors, pen input, finger input, touching the corners to recalibrate, turning the divice upside down, locking, unlocking, running different tabs in chrome...way too much time on this issue.
Finally I found the cause.
A cheap monoprice USB cable attached will produce the problem 100% of the time.
Using a heafty stock USB cable works 100% of the time.
I spent three days setting up this new tablet. And it worked flawlessly, until the last day when I moved to a new room.
Now I'm loving it again.

Touch screen fault

Hi everyone
I recently ordered a Moto G 3rd gen (through Tesco Mobile in the UK if it matters), and the touch screen seems to have some sort of fault. Long story short, I type pretty quickly with two thumbs and sometimes two separate presses are treated as a swipe. I've never seen this behaviour in any of my previous phones (including the Moto G 1st gen), so I am wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar?
Contacted the network who sent a replacement phone, but while it is slightly better the fault is still noticeable. My colleague got a 3rd gen the other day as well and I can replicate the issue on his, although of his own admission he doesn't type particularly quickly or with both thumbs at the same time, so it doesn't bother him.
If you turn on the touch screen debugging options you can see some swipes which were actually separate presses. I've attached a couple of shots so you can see what I mean.
Anyone else able to reproduce?! All you need to do is type a message out quickly with two thumbs. "Hehehehehehehe" is a good test.
i use swift keyboard.. i tried typing HEHEHEHE.. they were perfect infact.. i am giving an screen recording also, hope it might give you clear idea.

i have seen it, there might be some issue ..
if you are using any tempered screen, screen guard.. they might be causing the problem ! else wipe the screen with a cloth, if that also doesn't work ..
then there might be some problem with your screen..

No screen guard is on the phone. The worrying thing is I've been able to replicate the issue on two other Moto G 3rd gens as well..! I wonder if a faulty batch has made its way to the UK.
Do you have the 1GB or 2GB version out of interest?

Interesting! Thank you for the video. So it seems you are able to replicate the issue as well. Perhaps yours is not giving spaces because of the differences in our keyboard configuration. It also seems yours is not as bad as mine, but it is still noticeable.
I am genuinely surprised this problem isn't bothering more Moto G 2015 owners. I find it so difficult to type on the phone!
I've noticed some degree of unresponsiveness, but only after the stagefright update. I've flashed the newer stock firmware (not OTA) and noticed the issue after using the phone for a few minutes.
If you can replicate it on other phones it seems like you move/drag your thumbs ever so slightly when typing since you type so fast, and it registers as a swipe. It's just your style. Did you try a different keyboard? Or even try using your fingers instead of thumbs? Or maybe slow down? It really seems like a user issue than a hardware/software issue.
I've noticed it as well with the keyboard and some games, I mostly just use the gesture typing from Google Keyboard, I've been using it for years though so it varies from device to device.

I can only replicate it on other Moto G 2015 handsets - every other phone (including my Moto G 1st gen) is absolutely fine. If you turn on the touch debugging options and tap the 'H' and the 'E' in quick succession (just an example) with your two thumbs, you can register a swipe occasionally without moving either thumb a millimetre.
I'm certain it's a hardware/software issue but I accept that it'll affect some owners more than others depending on their typing speed/style.
This was the reason I sold my G 3rd Gen; I type super fast, and it got very irritating. Waiting for the new Nexus now.
No issue on mine, 2Gb version, from France
I haven't watched the videos, but I have the same problem as the OP describes. It's more of an issue with SwiftKey than Google Keyboard, but it does happen with both.
I just can't reliably replicate it. It just happens randomly. Additionally, if I press one of the predicated words in Google Keyboard, it sometimes registers as a long press and triggers the multi word choice menu. Since I don't actually long press, it ends up choosing the first word.
I had zero problems with both a Nexus 4 and LG G4, both with and without screen protectors.
I'm torn as the phone works very well for me otherwise.
I just purchased a moto g 3 and i am having issues with this aswell and also when playing ingress it feels like the screen isnt registrering my swipe correctly. I Wonder if android m update might fix this otherwise i will have to sell it and go back to my moto x 2014 instead which apart of the camera is superb.

Ghost touching - is it worth RMA'ing - alert slider paint wearing off?

My phone experiences occasional ghost touches, but mainly when CPU-Z is on. I know it's an issue on a lot of OnePlus 7 Pro's, but is it worth RMA'ing my device - or is it likely the next one will have the same problem?
Also my alert slider, I'm not sure, but part of the anodisation seems to be wearing off - at least there's a lighter area - attached pic for reference. Is this an issue? I've had the phone 3 days.

Personally, I think the ghost touch issue in cpuz, with nfc and 90 htz enabled, is a software issue. Should be able to be fixed with a update. Seeing that there are very specific circumstances to make it happen, I'd bet most have it and just don't know. I would have never known had I not seen it here and tried it. Does anyone really leave NFC on when they're not using it?

Hopefully, I really like the phone and don't really want to return / replace it. I hadn't really noticed it until I tried CPU-Z, but now I notice it on Facebook, WhatsApp and Nova launcher. Otherwise the phone is perfect - apart from my issue with the alert slider and the faded area of colour - not sure if I'm just being too picky with that?
And yeah I generally leave NFC on as I mainly pay with Google Pay.
I don't have any ghost touch issues personally. I've had the phone for about a week. And I don't have any paint issues. Nevertheless, I'd ask oneplus if they think it's hardware or software, obviously, if it's hardware, RMA that thing. I certainly wouldn't RMA it just for that little paint spot though.

You don't, even with NFC on? I don't know whether to order another one on my credit card, see if that has the same issue and if not, return the one I have. Yeah I wouldn't just for the paint thing, it's tiny but it's annoying with the ghost touch issue as well.
Would of been nice if OP made the metal part just regular silver, like polished or brushed. Personally it would look so much better
Confirmed ghosting using cpu-z. Need fix asap.
I'm having another 7 Pro sent to me, and will send this one back. Had two send two videos showing the ghost touch issue and send over logs. So I guess we'll see what the new one is like.

Yes, I keep nfc on, however it should be known. I don't use cpu-z.

The ghost touches are done with or without CPU-Z. It's just a matter of time for it to appear while using any app. It's just CPU-Z makes it more evident.
Anyway, there are people having that problem even with the NFC disabled.

Since we are talking about the slider here.... is there any tweak I can install to have the functionality of the slider button in my status bar? Meaning I need a status bar icon that can switch between the 3 modes: silent, ring, vibrate. That's one of the features i miss the most from my samsung.

Definitely not worth it for the slider. That is so hard to see when just looking at it plus it looks like most will wear after they slide back and fourth just normal wear and tear

Yeah realise that, think it was just adding to my annoyance about the ghost touches. My new one will arrive tomorrow, so fingers crossed that there's no issues with that one.

Zoom out, put your thumbs together so that they will touch each other and hold it.

That is so weird. IT moves all over the place. Maybe because thumbs are further apart? No problems with two fingers. Weird

No issues here. Check mine.
Maybe it is the pre-installed protection glass?
Same issue here. You can test it with a multi touch tester app. You will see the two touches merging into one and then splitting in two, and that goes on and on.
My guess is that a firmware update might solve this, but OnePlus should really be informed.
OP would you mind submitting a bug report through the Community app?
I'll do
Edit: done
Edit 2: it is not the pre-installed protection glass
Same here. I found out that is related to some electrostatic issue when touching the bottom of the device. Otherwise this won't happen. Let me know.
EDIT: confirmed, even without touching the bottom. Can you link the bugreport?

For the record, i am experiencing the exact same problem. More details here. Waiting for a fix.
I don't have a screen protector installed.

This is exactly what I experience. Touching the bottom of the phone at the same time as I touch the screen will give me these issues.
Same here what production date are your devices? Mine is 2019.06.03
