Front camera design flaw - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Let's start by saying I thought my front camera was broken because it would not pop up and was making a very strange noise. I took a video of it to show it wasn't working but when I was video recording it the front camera final popped out!! I tried popping the camera up 8-9 times. I was so happy I didn't have to send the phone in and deal with OnePlus! (They haven't emailed me back after 3 weeks now). Phones not even 30 days old! When I looked at my front camera it was covered in dirt and grim. Now OnePlus 7 pro users, you notice how the front camera moves in every direction a little bit? Understanding the issue? Design flaw! It allows dust to get in and slowly plug it up until it won't pop up!
I don't use my front camera hardly ever. Maybe 10 times total in 30 days about. I do like to clean my phone a lot too. (I think liquid can get inside the little gap and mix with the dirt, making it bond like glue). Clorox wipes for example. These 2 things combined equal a disaster waiting to happen.

Mine has no problems. Maybe don't clean the front camera with liquid, that could cause an issue.

Got my phone on launch day. I have gotten nothing in my front facing camera to date. No first or anything. I'm like you in the face I rarely use my selfie camera, maybe 5 or 6 times since I got the phone. I have yet to have to clean or were away anything on my front facing camera. It also doesn't shift or wiggle at all.

Same here got mine on launch no issues here

Your guys camera doesn't move? Others said their camera moves? Interesting.
Edit - I should say I haven't used my front camera in about 2 weeks. The 10 times I used it was only when I was testing it out. I only decided to use the front camera because I was putting a dbrand skin on top of the front camera. (Looks great btw)!

Yup, same here. Wobbles. Makes grinding noises sometimes when opening. Once in a while with this error even:

Also rarely use it, but when I do, I'm genuinely happy it actually pops up first time. Usually it's grrrrind open close open close error try again success.
Very bad design, imho.

Never had any issues.
I use it for face unlock... Lots of times a day.
Had my phone for a month now...

Use face unlock so it pops out many times a day and you won't have this problem.

If you use your front camera everyday, you shouldn't have a issue where it gets stuck. It's when you don't use it for a extended period of time, it could get stuck.

So the title of the thread is spot-on :good:

Launched no issue. The only.liquid imwould ever think about using would be rubbing alcohol on a microfiber, and only damp so none goes down the slot, but even if it does it will evaporate quickly. That said, I don't do that, I use microfiber rags, and I'm in construction and my tool bags always have crap floating around dust dirt, chunks of drywall, dust, and so far nothing has gotten down that or in between the slot walls and camera. It's been nothing but a pleasure to use coming from 6t, and pixels and Samsung's. Sucks your having issues. I'm using the tech 21 case, also will say, great case, very happy about that

I go weeks without using it (not that vain to be obsessed with selfies) and I haven't had any issues with it working as intended and no first or fuzz gets inside it either. Maybe a quality control thing with some units sealed and working properly and some not so much?

I'm using the official karbon bumper case. I have my phone in my back pocket with the camera positioned up.

It's not a design flaw. You need some space or you will have a friction issue.

It needs to have a lip at the top. It's a design flaw.

Agreed, the instant I saw the design, I said dust would eventually get in the camera and either scratch the lens or the pop-up mechanism would get stuck. All they needed to really do was add a lip at the top as you said.

No issues for me. Had mine since launch.

Mine still good to go with no issues...

Wide + Macro Lens for sensation.

whats up guys?
I just saw my friend and he bought additional Lens for his Iphone.
Will this be good on Sensation?
www.ebay.com/itm/3in1-Fisheye-Lens-...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item2ebd9e2fea
BTW this is what the seller wrote:
iPhone 3G / 3GS / 4G / 4S (see notes below), and other cellphone,Notebook / Netbook (eg. Mac / Macbook / eee-pc / laptop),
iPod Nano 5th, iPod Nano 6th and other cellphone such as blackberry etc.
Portable and detachable, you can take photo with your devices at any time.
Work on most type of mobile phone that are not bigger than 13mm diameter.
High Clarity: Made of high-class glass.
Strong: Made of top-grade Aluminuim.
Color: Silver.
Applicable to any devices.
The Flash Light will be blocked when the lens is in use.
Thanks!
Not sure if its actually good on Sensation..but here's a review of it and the actual product site.

-Edit-
From the FAQ from Photojojo
Will these lenses fit on my phone?
Sure! These lenses really work with most phones. If the area around your camera lens is relatively flat, and you can stick the little metal ring to it, our new camera phone lenses will work on your phone, no problem!

What about my iPhone 3G/S? The back is kind of curved - will the lenses still work?
The lenses will work with the iPhone 3G/S - but not perfectly. The curve of the phone will cause the edge of the fisheye and wide angle lens to be seen in your photos. The macro lens won't have this issue. You can easily crop the edge of the lens out of your photos with your favorite photo-editing program! Photoshop app, ftw.
quoted this because of the curve question

Can I use these lenses with a case on my phone?
You totally can! As long as the case is tight against the phone it should be fine. Thicker cases may cause slight light leaks but it'll still work!

What is the size of that little ring? How many of them do I get?
The diameters of the ring are 13.06mm (outer) and 9.38mm (inner). If your phone's lens has a smaller diameter, it'll work great! Each lens comes with two iPhone 4/4S rings and two all-other-phone-compatible rings

Thanks Alot!
I will order this, if it wont work, my sister will get a gift for her Iphone
It won't work
Seriously, it won't
It probably will fit. From what I can make out it comes with an adhesive metal ring which fits over the hole for your camera. The lenses are magnetic so attach to the ring. As long as the adhesive ring fits it should be fine. I'm going to buy my girlfriend one for her sgs2 next week and will report back on whether or not it also fits the Sensation.
"Top grade aluminium"... held on by a magnet? I smell a rat.
Also, reguardless of the fact that you won't actually be using the phone to make a call whilst the lens is attached, I am curious to know the effect sticking magnets and large lumps of metal to your phone has on your signal strength.
This arrived yesterday so I thought I'd update. The piece that attaches to the phone is a small metal ring with an adhesive back. Although it fits the sgs2 much better than the Sensation, it still certainly fits the Sensation really well and doesn't feel like it would easily come off. The package came with around 7 of the metal adhesive rings so it's not a problem if one does happen to fall off. The magnets on the lenses are very strong - I think they may even be rare earth magnets - so they attach to the ring really well and feel quite sturdy when they're on. I didn't have much time to check the quality of the lenses but the macro seemed fantastic and the fish eye quite good.

i thought only the iThings get this kinda gizmos, waiting for other pictures to see the quality. how does the Auto focus on sensation work with these lenses?
i like em fish eye and macro lenses.!
I've seen the iThing versions and look plasticky - these look way better since its made of metal alloy - hows the signal / radio / wifi? is it affected in anyway?
i just searched on ebay and ordered some of these from a different seller for slightly cheaper - they appear to be the same thing.
i'll post back when i get them and try to get some pics up.

SW2 - Real bad build quality? (pic)

Last night, when my friend play with my sw2, he told me that the power button's hard to press, i think it's normal since the power button is a bit loose from the start
but in this morning, when i have a look at sw2, OMG, the screen is kind of peeled off at the right side, you guys please have a look at this, i have nothing to say about this **** anymore!

Don't worry, mine had it too.
A pinch of glue and it won't move.
The same problem posted. Luckly it did not happen on my SW2 yet.
Smartwatch 2 problems
Minor issue. It has been discussed.
In fact, I ride a motorcycle every day, and worried that mine would do that and fall out. I kept pushing on it occasionally to check it. Finally, after 6 weeks, I got it loose a couple of days ago. A bit of glue, and I suspect it is better than new. And it won't fall out if the USB cover is in place.
i wouldn't call a watch coming apart within months or even days a minor issue
it's been reported many times already, so yes, i would call this bad build quality
the screen isn't coming off, it's the entire plastic inside with screen and electronics that's coming loose from the alu frame
yes, you can fix it with some glue, but this really shouldn't happen
I have to agree with JarISX. Sony is reputable large corporation and should be on top of everything they release. It maybe a quick fix but if anybody knows this issue prior to purchase, he/she would not purchase it at all. They should have had a better quality control on their devices.
Instead of some weak glue, they should have gone with couple of screws.
It did not happen to me yet but now I expect it to.

Probably right.
I look at it as minor, because I knew about it before I got the watch, and I went ahead and got it anyway. The previous discussions and photos made it obvious what was going on. I was looking forward to seeing more of the 'innards', but was disappointed to see that the watch module is very well sealed (outside of the USB jack).
I believe glue there is fine. After all, screw holes would be more points for water to get in. But they used the wrong glue. It was bonded to the frame and almost impossible to remove. But it did not bond to the plastic watch module at all.
what glue do you guys suggest using?
I used superglue... worked so far but you can see a little bit of it on the bottom now - superglue is very fluid
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7100 mit Tapatalk
If that happens to my watch I will return it.
The watch is supposed to be IP57 certificated. A drop of superglue won't do the trick in that regard.

The glue goes all around the watch body which itself is completely sealed, so it impairs in no way the IP57 certification.
It might not be the glass fixture issue. You may try to push the module upward from the bottom of the case. Then you can see magically that the whole module can slide out from the top. You determine by yourself if this is a minor issue of major issue.
my power button was a bit loose at first, but after a few pushes i guess it settled in place and now its perfect. My screen is def not popping out from one side. I would return it to Sony ASAP
I notice this same effect with my SW2 today. The screen had lifted up from.the other side too and button didnt work - it was jammed. I had to push the screen back to get the button to work. Now the button feels odd... The watch is 3months old. I think I send it to Sony - minor issue or not, but not my problem to fix it - not even then when it is only a drop of glue.
it's not the screen, it's the entire plastic unit coming loose from the aluminium frame, happened to me as well, glued it back together with super glue, didn't feel like going though the hassle of convincing support i didn't do anything weird with it not did i want to wait for weeks (or longer) for it to be repaired
I chose to send it

I got the same problem after 1 month of normal using, sent it to Sony SEMC Repair (France). I thought I was gonna wait for weeks but in 3 days I got another one ! The only problem is that they send you a device that has been sent to after sales service before so mine is a but special now (screen is not perfectly parallel to the edge of the watch, kinda weird, let's see if it's problematic)
If you live in Europe, don't hesitate to send it to sony because in the first 6months of using, problems are supposed to be builder's fault.

I didnt understand the end of the message... but anyway... do you mean that they send an used unit back to you? And you dont get a new one for a replace or your own watch back?
If I send mine to Sony, I definitely want my own back: i have put a screen protector on it and needed to shorter the metal band (=cost money). Also, the battery isnt changeable so I wont accept any used one because you dont know how good the battery still is or how bad it is treated , if you know what I mean...
Sent from my N8000.
i'd also want mine back, or a new one
and certainly not with a screen that's not correctly aligned
i don't know where you get the info about the 6 months guarantee in Europe, here in the Netherlands it's at least 1 year
Wrong Thread.
LOL, my very first SW2, the one from the 1st post, has died, after around 3 months working time, no power, no screen, no whatsoever... Damn suck!
After that, i went to Pebble, but i can't bear the "screen quality" of its, so i went back to SW2, this time it's a silver one, hope it live long enough until the Android Wear device arrive

Light from the gaps?

Hello everyone.
I'd like to ask you to take a closer look to the gaps between screen and chasis, do you have in some places around light when the screen is on? You must look at this in dark place.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app
No light from the gap. I just measured as I'm sending mine back, I have no gap on the left and a rather big one on the right side. It's 0.25mm at any point and 0.30 mm at the widest.
In a another Forum 5 user has the same problem with the light in the gap.
I have 2 gaps in my 3rd replacement.
One either side of the bezel at the bottom. To me that seemed like an obvious place where the phone would allow water in. I submerged it in water for 15 mins, and yep, it allowed water into the device. The back of the phone now makes a clicking/cracking sound when even slight pressure is applied, presumably the glass sticking to the internals.
I won't ever be buying or using a Sony phone ever again. Their quality control is non existant.
Either gonna be a note 4 or nexus 6 next I think. I'd advise people to keep away from the Z3 unless you can be bothered with constant replacements till you get a good one, just like you need to with any Apple product.
For a £500 phone its a joke.

I can confirm that I have a little gap I the top right corner between the glass and metal frame, closest to micro sd card slot. A little light does bleed from this gap, does anyone think that this will affect the waterproofing of the phone? With all the other problems people have mentioned I'm worried about sending for a replacement and getting a phone with more problems. Other than that small issue my z3 is without any other issues.

Try with a pressure test using cpu-z. Check the thread about a failed waterproofing test in general section. I wrote there too
My screen seems evenly set but I have light bleed all along the right side of the frame with intervals in between. I took picture with my sister's GS4, it looks worse in real life than the pics.
Should I get a replacement?

Yes you should. I bought a z3 two weeks ago, same problems (light bleed, gaps....)... I sent it back... Now, I'm waiting for good news about that, and hoping, with new batches, Sony can solve those problems
I managed to get cross shipping though they are on backorder at TMO, sending my old one tomm itself. They wanted to charge $50 restocking at first lol. By the way you cannot exchange at a store for pre-orders, even if done at a store.
Damn! My Z3 also seems to have this gap!
I just posted a thread on how my phone got water damaged, I'm beginning to think that gap may be responsible for what happened.
Any pics of the light bleed? Have you seen mine?
I have some minor light bleed along the left side of my device. It is only visible when I turn up the brightness to maximum. I was afraid to water test my phone because of this bit of light bleed but my girlfriend decided to dunk my phone anyways -_-. "you paid for a water proof phone it better be water proof!" Can't argue with that. Dropped it into a bowl of water and brought it back out pretty quickly. No issues yet.
Yup I can confirm the gap.I've also tested phones waterproofing But there is no harm

i would like to know how the finger print sensor works in the case and if it is waterproofed using a sticker like the lifeproof for the iphone and quality and look of the same feature. its my only concern with this case if its crummy then its not worth the 89bucks lol. cant wait to read your review.

Only complaint I have so far is that the buttons are really stiff. Ive had this case along with the Nuud for other phones and never was it this bad. I may have something to do with my skin on my phone but I highly doubt it because it doesnt interfere with the buttons on other cases. The fingerprint scanner does have a film over it and works great once you do the initial break in (getting it stuck to the reader after a few times of pressing it) It also comes with a new blue opening key for opening the case and it just goes onto your keychain which i think is a great add on. Overall I am highly satisfied with the case and have nothing else bad to say besides the stiff buttons.

How's recording a video? I'm getting autofocus issues where it struggles to focus. Or it'll be clear but then blurry and remains blurry longer than it was being clear.
How about protection for earpiece as far as I know earpiece is not waterproof and I dont see a protection for earpice in the picture, and how bulky is case?

Now that you mention it I was having autofocus issues the other day and had to keep clicking on what I was interested in recording and it would take longer than normal to focus. It isn't a consistent issue and more times than not it autofocuses properly.

I would assume it's not a case issue. I know this was an issue with a Spigen case. But I think it's the laser focus on the phone when there's a glass or something covering the lens. It's probably picking up the dust or maybe it's being affected by the reflection. Idk....

I don't think it's happening...

hTC U11 what's your experience and durability

hey I am getting this phone in a week I selected it over s8 and iphone 7
and I would like to know your experience with it specially the durability as it failed with the bend test due to the flexible metal frame ,front and back glass
also what about the selfie shooter and battery life
I hope you share your experience with me
thanks in advance
I owned one when first released for 3 weeks. Definitely need a case to protect it but then I always use one. Battery life was average though not terrible.
Now, originally the phone was a speed demon but after awhile did become laggy much to my surprise but I have tons of apps though no game apps or Facebook loaded. I did pre-order the newer 6gb/128 version to see if that would improve, but cancelled as I await further feedback from users. I still prefer my S8+ and it doesn't lag for me to the surprise of many.

the GS8+ is 50 dollars more expensive than the 128gb 6gbram u11 here where I live that's why I am really considering it as the galaxy is poor af in multitasking and ram management
I found garry easily bends this phone so I was woundering too if there any related stuff I will own it for 2 years if it did not break xD
A phone made of glass. What a brilliant idea.
Using it for around 10 days without a case. Not enough time to judge but it's been fine. I am very careful though. Just a personal issue I have with this phone which doesn't seem to bother most people is the yellow tint at the bottom of the screen. Would have returned it because I'm particularly OCD about these things but the tint is so faint I couldn't get the customer service people to see it and if they don't see it in my particular case, I'm not getting a refund or replacement.
Btw the phone is awesome though and I wish I didn't notice or have the screen issue.

the tint issue was there with the htc 10 too due to light leak
it is not only in the bottom it is with the angle ty to change the viewing angle the tint will move with you

Mine is different. I have light bleed at the top which I can live with. What I have at the bottom is a yellow tint which gradually fades to white. OnePlus one had a similar issue and I swapped it twice before giving up on it. This is less exaggerated but unfortunately unbearable for me.

I have one for about 10 days now, and I must say it's beautiful. I use the provided HTC case with it, and the case now has lots of scratches.
I believe the phone is more slippery with the case, that without. I also think the glass is not as easily scratched as the plastic case, but it is a fingerprint magnet.
I've ordered a transparent silicone case, let's see how that is.
I don't have any light bleed or dead pixels, the cameras work perfectly, Edge Sense as well.
I really have nothing to comment regarding the performance of the phone, everything is snappy and works perfectly.
What I hate is the fact that I have the Dual-SIM version, and I always have the SIM no above the signal icon.

I think the sim issue can be fixed with systemui tuner I guess you have a chance with that
Experience is awesome, great, super happy, love this phone, extremely fast, great for the most demanding games.
Hands down the best sound ever, of any phone released today, and great for videos
Good reception even in poor areas.
Durability... not so great, not enough protection, Glass can break if not careful, will get scratched.
Poor availability of choices for Protection Cases and Screen Protectors.

I don't want to root it. Yet.
I have a good track record with phones, so I ditched the case. I do, however, have a carbon fiber skin on the back. The skin protects from finger prints, makes it easier to hold, protects the glass from scratches, and I personally thought the design isn't very good without it.
I found out that the glass is more fragile than I would have thought. When applying the skin, I had the glass face down on a glass coffee table. When I flipped it over it had various scratches. Got an IQ Shield screen protector and thankfully it hides the scratches.
I wanted to ask those using the phone. I have a black u11. When the flashlight is on I can see light at the sides where the glass meets the metal. Is this normal for all?

Ah wait scratch that. Didn't want to worry anybody. I looked at it carefully and that's not the issue. I have a full body clear guard and the edges of the screen/ body film seem to be lighting up. The actual metal joint seems to be fine. Thanks for the reply though. Much appreciated.

I'm in construction and after a month of use I have ZERO scratches. I tried a few cases, but they made this phone too bulky and hid the awesomeness. Now I just have a CardNinja business card holder on the back and an otherwise nekkid solar red phone.
After a month of use it has become less slippery. I did have to turn off Edge Sense though because it kept taking photos when I was taking it out of my front pocket.
I typically run a wet cloth over the screen and back after doing anything with tons of dust and I'm good to go!
Cases, in my experience just grind the pocket dust into the phone until they create gouges.
Hope that helps,
Chad
