hey I am getting this phone in a week I selected it over s8 and iphone 7
and I would like to know your experience with it specially the durability as it failed with the bend test due to the flexible metal frame ,front and back glass
also what about the selfie shooter and battery life
I hope you share your experience with me
thanks in advance
I owned one when first released for 3 weeks. Definitely need a case to protect it but then I always use one. Battery life was average though not terrible.
Now, originally the phone was a speed demon but after awhile did become laggy much to my surprise but I have tons of apps though no game apps or Facebook loaded. I did pre-order the newer 6gb/128 version to see if that would improve, but cancelled as I await further feedback from users. I still prefer my S8+ and it doesn't lag for me to the surprise of many.

the GS8+ is 50 dollars more expensive than the 128gb 6gbram u11 here where I live that's why I am really considering it as the galaxy is poor af in multitasking and ram management
I found garry easily bends this phone so I was woundering too if there any related stuff I will own it for 2 years if it did not break xD
A phone made of glass. What a brilliant idea.
Using it for around 10 days without a case. Not enough time to judge but it's been fine. I am very careful though. Just a personal issue I have with this phone which doesn't seem to bother most people is the yellow tint at the bottom of the screen. Would have returned it because I'm particularly OCD about these things but the tint is so faint I couldn't get the customer service people to see it and if they don't see it in my particular case, I'm not getting a refund or replacement.
Btw the phone is awesome though and I wish I didn't notice or have the screen issue.

the tint issue was there with the htc 10 too due to light leak
it is not only in the bottom it is with the angle ty to change the viewing angle the tint will move with you

Mine is different. I have light bleed at the top which I can live with. What I have at the bottom is a yellow tint which gradually fades to white. OnePlus one had a similar issue and I swapped it twice before giving up on it. This is less exaggerated but unfortunately unbearable for me.

I have one for about 10 days now, and I must say it's beautiful. I use the provided HTC case with it, and the case now has lots of scratches.
I believe the phone is more slippery with the case, that without. I also think the glass is not as easily scratched as the plastic case, but it is a fingerprint magnet.
I've ordered a transparent silicone case, let's see how that is.
I don't have any light bleed or dead pixels, the cameras work perfectly, Edge Sense as well.
I really have nothing to comment regarding the performance of the phone, everything is snappy and works perfectly.
What I hate is the fact that I have the Dual-SIM version, and I always have the SIM no above the signal icon.

I think the sim issue can be fixed with systemui tuner I guess you have a chance with that
Experience is awesome, great, super happy, love this phone, extremely fast, great for the most demanding games.
Hands down the best sound ever, of any phone released today, and great for videos
Good reception even in poor areas.
Durability... not so great, not enough protection, Glass can break if not careful, will get scratched.
Poor availability of choices for Protection Cases and Screen Protectors.

I don't want to root it. Yet.
I have a good track record with phones, so I ditched the case. I do, however, have a carbon fiber skin on the back. The skin protects from finger prints, makes it easier to hold, protects the glass from scratches, and I personally thought the design isn't very good without it.
I found out that the glass is more fragile than I would have thought. When applying the skin, I had the glass face down on a glass coffee table. When I flipped it over it had various scratches. Got an IQ Shield screen protector and thankfully it hides the scratches.
I wanted to ask those using the phone. I have a black u11. When the flashlight is on I can see light at the sides where the glass meets the metal. Is this normal for all?

Ah wait scratch that. Didn't want to worry anybody. I looked at it carefully and that's not the issue. I have a full body clear guard and the edges of the screen/ body film seem to be lighting up. The actual metal joint seems to be fine. Thanks for the reply though. Much appreciated.

I'm in construction and after a month of use I have ZERO scratches. I tried a few cases, but they made this phone too bulky and hid the awesomeness. Now I just have a CardNinja business card holder on the back and an otherwise nekkid solar red phone.
After a month of use it has become less slippery. I did have to turn off Edge Sense though because it kept taking photos when I was taking it out of my front pocket.
I typically run a wet cloth over the screen and back after doing anything with tons of dust and I'm good to go!
Cases, in my experience just grind the pocket dust into the phone until they create gouges.
Hope that helps,
Chad

I highly recommend them. They worked flawlessly on my Evo. And I had the Full Screen Protector and Carbon Fiber on my Evo. And I plan on purchasing for my Epic too.

I hear that Phantomskinz are easily scratched. I know that they will still protect the phone even if they do get scratched, but then you still end up looking at a scratched skin for as long as you have it. Have you had any problems with that?
PS' site labels the product as "self-healing" from scratches, but from what I've read it seems as though even a moderately large/deep scratch manages to stay put. Other than that, PS skins are supposed to be great, but that was the reason I was initially turned off from them.

They are self healing. I had 2 scratches on my Evo from dropping it and they disappeared in like 2 or 3 days. And whenever it looked a little blurry I would just use some polishing compound and rub it and it came back to a new state.
I have tried many of these covers and phantom skinz are the best in terms of not even noticing it is on the device. Also they are slick and generally you just forget they are even there. Bestskinsever and invisible shields almost always have a slightly bumpy texture or graininess that I could never use.

1+ Exactly.
Just purchased mine. Matte version for me though, I hope it's as nice of quality as people say. It was a touch decision, but since wrapsol hasn't released their skin yet and neither has Stenheil, I made the leap
Use the coupon code "summersale2010" to get 30% off! That made it a nice deal.
Gonna purchase a set but quick question , Is it ok to use without a pouch or case , it wont lift from keeping the phone in my pockets..
I would like to know if there are lifting issues also.

I know from experience that this are WAY better than Zagg invisible shield and they do NOT have lifting issues whatsoever.
does it protect the screen too? i watched some of the installatioin vids, and it doesnt look like it covers the screen...
just curious to those who ordered, which skin did you get? the black carbon looks cool because it blends in with the black, i noticed on the white carbon that it does not cover the entire back with some black spots showing.
i hate applying skins on phones with curves its a pita

I did it on the Evo and it looked AWESOME. So I'm guessing it will look nice here too.
I personally went with the Matte one because... well, matte is a great finish and I'm hoping it's a cut above the clear case when it comes to glare/reflections. Oh, and the chromatic are just too ostentatious for me.
Haha I got the carbon fiber though now I want other colors when they come out.
Has anyone managed to get the bottom back corners on in any satisfactory fashion? I guess I must've stretched them out trying to get them to go down...took me a while to realize I'd have to prioritize the outside edge and let the inside flatter stuff overlap or hit at weird angles if they have to.
Has anyone used gadgetwarranty before? If it really is as easy as they make it seem, I like knowing that if this falls off in a week because of some raised edges that I can get a new one for $3 + stamp.
I got my back on nearly perfectly, however I'm noticing what I think are stretch marks from using their application tool Luckily, the internet special gave me 2 skins so I get another chance! I'll probably apply the second back today with great care and see how it looks.
On a side note, I bought the matte finish skin and applied that to the screen as well. To anyone thinking of buying this finish, it's wonderful but DO NOT apply the matte screen protector. The skin kit comes with 2 matte and 2 clear screen covers as well as 2 full body matte covers. I suggest using the clear ones as the matte screen covers massively distorts the beautiful screen.
For $18, 4 screen covers and 2 full body covers with lifetime warranty is a pretty great deal!
chromatic skin
heres the lime green skin that i purchased from them and i really like it. im gonna try out the carbon fiber next time. here are some pics for you guys to see.

Greetings All,
I just wanted to let everyone know that the Otterbox Defender Series is now available for our HTC Desires. I am sure that I am not the only one who has been patiently awaiting it.
I have not used an Otterbox product before, however have read some reviews and they were all positive, so that was what justified the price on it. I love my Desire and it's worth the money for the added protection for the phone.
If anyone is planning on getting one, make sure you google search for a COUPON CODE first, I managed to save 10% on mine, and if you live in the US I believe you can get find a code for free shipping.
Also, if anyone has any experience with Otterbox, I'm sure the other Desire owners would be interested in hearing it.
I cannot post links, but if you go to Otterbox DOT com or do a google search you can easily find the site.
...I don't see any ''new'' case for the desire. The 2 models have always been the same.
Yes, but up until now the defender series case was listed as coming soon.

I am taking the availability claim with a pinch of salt.
I took the time to order the Commuter case for the Desire from the Otterbox website 3 weeks ago when it was showing as "in stock".
Only after 3 weeks and a couple of emails have I been told that it has not even been shipped yet as it is not yet available.
Somewhat annoyed.
Ouch. Nothing worse than waiting for stuff to arrive in the mail - and then to find out that it hadn't been sent at all.
Well there definately in stock, mines just arrived. get on it lads.
I'll be reviewing mine when i get a mo. I'll let you know the score.
Looks pretty bulky. Makes a sleek phone not so sleek.
depends on application really.
i work in the building industry so i need something HD i can't be dropping it out on a building site and it explodes into pieces.
I think if your looking for sleek head for the communte
If you are in the UK you can order both defender and commuter from play.com - still have to wait a few weeks though !!

As someone who regularly does reviews for OtterBox, I can say, with great pride, that the products they release are great (for those who haven't used them). Just be prepared, if you buy the Defender, your device WILL be larger than many may want it to be. Above form, although they do take it into consideration, functionality is it's primary goal and it does it well!
I got mine yesterday, it does add some bulk to the phone but I do like how rugged it looks. Shipping was quick for me, but I am in North America so that had a factor in shipping speed.
The phone feels well protected. It feels as if I dropped it, the phone would be okay. I have access to all my buttons and ports. The camera is not hindered at all and it has an opening for the external speaker. The light sensor and notification LED have openings as well.
The front part of the case has a screen protector attached. This is my only complaint with the product. I wish I could remove their screen protector and just use a generic one. The touch screen is still responsive but I like a generic one because it's easier to replace when it gets scratched.
Keep this all with a grain of salt, as I've only had the product for a day. This is more of a first look than an in depth review.
I hope this helps people who are considering this product for their Desire.

Got mine today (from Fort Collins, CO to my doorstep in 2 days. Not bad).
Has no one posted pics? I'll take some if no one else has.
For those wanting to use their own screen protectors, check out the Case-Mate Tough Case. Had it two weeks and I love it. It comes with a screen protector, and it's the best I've applied. You are free to use your own though.
Uses the same dual material construction of soft silicone rubber inner, and hard plastic outer shell. And when I got it from play.com it was in sale at £15. Would have Been happy had I paid full price though. Very well made case.
Adds minor bulk, you Just have to decide yourself what compromise you are prepared to make on form over function. Personally I like the look and feel it lends the phone. Plus it comes off easy enough when you are home. Sure the otterbox offering well be similar.

Some okay-ish pictures uploaded.
A couple of points:
The buttons and trackpad are accomodated by cutouts in the plastic film. Because the film doesn't stick to the phone (at least it doesn't to mine), it makes pressing the buttons a little more difficult than it otherwise could be. It also means that dust/dirt could get in.
The plastic film doesn't fit close to the screen toward the bottom as it does at the top. This means that touches aren't registered until you push the film down onto the screen as you press. The top is fine. A little annoying, but not the end of the world.
Does anyone else's Defender do the same?
Someone posted asking how much bigger it is. I'd say that it doubles the thickness, and not a lot to the height/width. Certainly very chunky.

My defender is the same, the screen protector is not a perfect fit. I think that the screen protector that comes attached to the faceplate could be easily removed, and I plan on trying to do so when my fresh batch of stock screen protectors comes in.. (bought some cheap anti-glare ones from ebay)
Other than that minor annoyance, I really am satisfied and impressed with the case. Sorry about not posting pics, but my only camera is my phone...
The defender case has even the screen and the button covered .The track button is obstructed for easy scrolling ?
The commuter case looks good in this case .
@sorch thanks for photos .
Ok, I have decided to cancel my defender order with play. Looks too big and to many issues with the screen protector. I'm considering the commuter case now - any one got it yet?

I bought the ballistic BC case and I love it. Except for the screen protector. It got scratched and really blurry and it really ruined the amazing quality of the infuses screen. So I applied a regular screen protector (pack of three from Walmart for 10 bucks) and popped out the built in case protector easily by pushing on the edges and then put the case back on and now I must say that I am back to liking the case. And I am most likley going to dremel off the little Red bar behind the camera because it gives my pictures a red tint to it. I was skeptical at first but now its all good.
(Edit)Does anyone else get this when they take a picture with flash?

so why do you even want a screen protector? The glass is scratch resistant and off course the screen looks so much better without it.

Because scratch resistant doesn't mean it will never get scratched. Even with just light use there are ever so slight scratch marks near the top of my phone.
I have no scratches on my screen. Even after taking a key to it lol. Anyways what i came in here for was to say i had the ballistic case and the proximity sensor part was messing with my phone. Took it back and got a refund. Gonna go back to the otterbox just because of the quality and the ease of using the buttons

heres a link where u can buy it for like half the price
http://www.thecellguru.com/Products/32675
I have the same case and I removed the built in protector not long after getting it. It just takes away from the beauty of the screen.
Are there any good ones that don't take away from the luxury of the nice screen?
I have that same case.. I love the belt clip holder. And no. I don't have that problem. And I take a good amount of pictures. I hope that dremel fixes your problems.
And as you said.. those Walmart screen protectors worked fine? There's not any give on the front part that clips in? It seems like there would be more than usual because it is a lot thinner of a protector? (for everyone that doesn't have one it's a fairly sheet thick of pllastic)
And if you are coming here thinking of getting one, I will share my experiences with you. The case is made up of a hard plastic that is a .... well let's just say it's really hard to take off. Not impossible but especially that first time. This makes battery pulls harder. Sometimes you can get around it by killing the phone by holding the power for 6 or so seconds and then hitting the volume keys at the right time but it doesn't always work. The outer layer that comes on the case is nice and bulky. If you think that you will be sticking it in your pocket with this layer you got another thing coming. It's a very sticky plastic which makes it very hard to pull out of a pocket. It works very well with the case holder though. A rather obnoxious thing is there is slits around the base layer that the case slides into. The top two and the bottom two tend to come undone very easily. They always seem to slide out which is annoying. It's doesn't exactly make it feel like the case is going to come off but annoying. The only way that you can keep it in your pocket is if you don't have that layer on which decreases the protection. It feels VERY solid when you have the extra layer on and rather secure when you don't. It's also a little rough on the hands around the edges so if you have soft girly hands then you might want to looks else wards towards a pretty smooth case. But if you are a man and work in something tough or just aren't sure where you will drop it, this is the case for you. (Have never used otterbox..). But that is NOT to say that this case is by any means perfect. I had this problem where it felt like the vibration inside the case was going to rattle the phone to pieces.. that was kind of unnerving but I got used to it after a while. Then when on vacation I hopped onto a hotel bed, my right hip landing on the bed and the hip belt holder BROKE! I wasn't very happy because I was busy and couldn't go to ATT but it would no longer hold my phone. After all these problems I took it back to ATT where they quickly traded out the case for a new one.. I had my receipt of course.. I THINK they used it? Not positive. I have had this new case for 2 or so month have jumped onto my own bed and haven't broken it. It's also worth mentioning that at ATT they mentioned something about a one-time exchange policy. one coworker to another which means I can't break it again within my one year time frame. D: This is a bummer because I went through 3 ipod touches in one year. Let's say I realized just how much water was in my life... And finally if you are still reading this thanks, I didn't mean to make it so lengthy. In conclusion, it's a good case, pricy but protects it well. It's dropped a few times and I haven't really thought twice, because it's "designed to survive life".. just don't jump on a hotel bed.

Just to let you guys know that I got an invisible shield for the S4 (front only) a couple of days before launch.
fitment is perfect and covers the screen up to the point of the sensors at the top and home button. I initially wanted the one allowing a skin but given that I use the cover with the hole, this was pointless.
Also the brodit car holder I am using clips from the top where the shield does not cover so it's perfect.
Not much else to say but if anyone was after one, it's not a bad purchase. Obviously still comes with the 25 year warranty on it too.
As for feeling, yes bare screen is lovely but I personally prefer the slightly matt/textured surface as it helps type and grip better than the slippy glass surface.
I have taken a pic but you can't really see anything so I won't bother uploading unless someone does want to see.

Just to let you guys know that I got an invisible shield for the S4 (front only) a couple of days before launch.

I also picked one up. Something that should be noted is that they sell different versions. The one I picked up was the HD which was supposed to be smoother than the regular one. It isnt as smooth as glass by any means but it is considerably nicer than the older plastic ones. There was also a privacy version to prevent shoulder surfing.
I will eventually migrate over to the tempered glass I think. Waiting to hear some reviews on a good sticking one, I hate bubbles or anything of the sort.
Ah yes good point
I think there are about 4 or 5 variants. I have to say and please don't let it be an insult to yours but HD had the worst of reviews. While it was more "glassy" like, it was also more thinner and was very easy to scratch.
I went for the original and so far despite a couple of rubbings at the gym, it's still mark-free.

No offense taken. Like I said I'm not thrilled with mine.

never did like the clarity of these things. they kind of make the screen look like it has ripples. i like the regular old screen protectors.
that being said xtremeguard.com has essentially the same product for like 80 cents each i think with the promo code 'coaster'
i bought some as backups cause they're so cheap
I just noticed after my last post that I do have a bunch of soft scratches in the screen protector. None that touched the glass of the phone but still you can see them under the right light.

This is called Orange Peel and Zagg is infamous for it.
I got this sp on launch and now a few days later it looks like I've had this phone for 2 years. So many small dents.
My spigen screen protector and case come tomorrow, cant wait to rip this crap off.

I bought the invisible shield extreme. There is absolutely zero orange peel on this model. It is also crystal clear. I had a few people who hate any screen protectors comment on the clarity. It really looks and feels like there is no screen protector. The extreme is a bit thicker, but it does not effect any aspect of how the touch screen functions.
I owned the original invisible shield on my last 2 phones. I will say that the orange peel was pretty ugly. They did work as advertised though...

Do you think the Extreme is worth getting over the HD? And does the Extreme work with a case?

I can't comment on the HD. It is worth getting over the original. It does work with a case. I just got my Seidio Active yesterday, works great!

Thanks. Well.... I guess I'll have to decide on my own whether to pay the extra $10 for the EXTREME. Wish it was cheaper.
Well, I ended up getting both and gotta say the Extreme is definitely worth it for a couple of reasons:
1. It is thicker so there is no worry about cases pushing up on it.
2. It comes out smoother and clearer without any air bubbles, but you have to wait longer for it to even itself out.
3. Easier to apply, especially with the rest of them attached to the silly new packaging.
4. More protection obviously.
Zagg hd all the way! It looks and feels like nothing is there. No orange peel rubber feel. Plus the same easy wet install.
I got the zagg extreme for $15.

I wanted to go without a case because In love the feel of the phone. Has anyone had issues with the paint peeling or anything weird. My Note 3 had chrome peel off and show black underneath.
I want to keep the phone clean looking but hate cases.

The Nexus 5 is also built out of plastic and glass, and Duarte isn't apologizing for the former. "It's not cheap plastic," he says, pointing out that Google actually machines and lasers it to give it more precise lines after it comes out of its mold. "This is hardcore plastic."
Compared to Samsungs cheap ass plastic
Thank God. I love the feel of the phone without a case. Excellent build quality.
Was just afraid to scratch it up and then it look like crap.

White version here. No case or screen protector since release. Slight dulling of the shiny black corners from going in pockets. Nothing else negative to report.

I also got a white one,and only use a screen protector for 2 month now with no issues

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to go naked. Love the feel of this phone.

Naked white for 2 months. No problems.
Until you drop it. A very unlucky slip from ~1.5ft smack on the edge of a glass table by someone who is usually VERY careful with his stuff (that would be me).
But I agree, it does have a very nice feel to it. Too bad it's so fragile.

I am planning to buy white nexus 5
Any problems of white getting dirty and not been able to clean??
Until and unless it can be cleaned, getting dirty is fine
Thanks

The risks of going with no case. I've dropped mine in it's case a few times now, at least one of them would've broken it with no protection. There are quite a few posts of people who dropped it and now use a case on their paid replacements.
I was extremely lucky. The damage turned out to be only cosmetic. Rocking a Cruzerlite case now. The great irony in my case (no pun intended) is that my drop happened when I was 'in between' cases. I had just returned one and the new one was to be delivered the next day. **** happens...
I've also had the white one for almost a month now.
I've got two cases: The official Red one (that costs an arm and a leg) but couldn't get on with it. Too stiff, made the phone feel too large and the buttons need a lot of force to activate, I found unlocking the device I needed two hands for in the end.
I ended up buying a second S-Line case, also in red which is less opaque (I can see the branding through the reverse) and my phone feels much nicer in this one. Buttons are easy to use now, and it still feel excellent protected.
I did have a screen-protector for a while, but haven't found one that I like as much as I did on my old Galaxy S3, everything seems too dim with one on.

hey there,
of course you used a case with your nexus 5, but still.... did you have any problem with your white part getting dirty?
also, is the back of the phone smooth or groovy, where the dust just sticks and is hard to wipe off?
Thanks

The white back does not get dirty easily. Its smoother then the black finish and doesn't show fingerprints, the glossy sides can however.

Sorry for replying to such an old quote, I hadn't noticed I'd been quoted. My white part is still pristine.

Also: it's difficult taking pictures of your phone with your phone, without flash... Apologies for the naff picture
