SW2 - Real bad build quality? (pic) - Sony Smartwatch

Last night, when my friend play with my sw2, he told me that the power button's hard to press, i think it's normal since the power button is a bit loose from the start
but in this morning, when i have a look at sw2, OMG, the screen is kind of peeled off at the right side, you guys please have a look at this, i have nothing to say about this **** anymore!

Don't worry, mine had it too.
A pinch of glue and it won't move.

The same problem posted. Luckly it did not happen on my SW2 yet.
Smartwatch 2 problems

Minor issue. It has been discussed.
In fact, I ride a motorcycle every day, and worried that mine would do that and fall out. I kept pushing on it occasionally to check it. Finally, after 6 weeks, I got it loose a couple of days ago. A bit of glue, and I suspect it is better than new. And it won't fall out if the USB cover is in place.

i wouldn't call a watch coming apart within months or even days a minor issue
it's been reported many times already, so yes, i would call this bad build quality
the screen isn't coming off, it's the entire plastic inside with screen and electronics that's coming loose from the alu frame
yes, you can fix it with some glue, but this really shouldn't happen

I have to agree with JarISX. Sony is reputable large corporation and should be on top of everything they release. It maybe a quick fix but if anybody knows this issue prior to purchase, he/she would not purchase it at all. They should have had a better quality control on their devices.
Instead of some weak glue, they should have gone with couple of screws.
It did not happen to me yet but now I expect it to.

Probably right.
I look at it as minor, because I knew about it before I got the watch, and I went ahead and got it anyway. The previous discussions and photos made it obvious what was going on. I was looking forward to seeing more of the 'innards', but was disappointed to see that the watch module is very well sealed (outside of the USB jack).
I believe glue there is fine. After all, screw holes would be more points for water to get in. But they used the wrong glue. It was bonded to the frame and almost impossible to remove. But it did not bond to the plastic watch module at all.

what glue do you guys suggest using?

I used superglue... worked so far but you can see a little bit of it on the bottom now - superglue is very fluid
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7100 mit Tapatalk

If that happens to my watch I will return it.
The watch is supposed to be IP57 certificated. A drop of superglue won't do the trick in that regard.

The glue goes all around the watch body which itself is completely sealed, so it impairs in no way the IP57 certification.

It might not be the glass fixture issue. You may try to push the module upward from the bottom of the case. Then you can see magically that the whole module can slide out from the top. You determine by yourself if this is a minor issue of major issue.

my power button was a bit loose at first, but after a few pushes i guess it settled in place and now its perfect. My screen is def not popping out from one side. I would return it to Sony ASAP

I notice this same effect with my SW2 today. The screen had lifted up from.the other side too and button didnt work - it was jammed. I had to push the screen back to get the button to work. Now the button feels odd... The watch is 3months old. I think I send it to Sony - minor issue or not, but not my problem to fix it - not even then when it is only a drop of glue.

it's not the screen, it's the entire plastic unit coming loose from the aluminium frame, happened to me as well, glued it back together with super glue, didn't feel like going though the hassle of convincing support i didn't do anything weird with it not did i want to wait for weeks (or longer) for it to be repaired

I chose to send it

I got the same problem after 1 month of normal using, sent it to Sony SEMC Repair (France). I thought I was gonna wait for weeks but in 3 days I got another one ! The only problem is that they send you a device that has been sent to after sales service before so mine is a but special now (screen is not perfectly parallel to the edge of the watch, kinda weird, let's see if it's problematic)
If you live in Europe, don't hesitate to send it to sony because in the first 6months of using, problems are supposed to be builder's fault.

I didnt understand the end of the message... but anyway... do you mean that they send an used unit back to you? And you dont get a new one for a replace or your own watch back?
If I send mine to Sony, I definitely want my own back: i have put a screen protector on it and needed to shorter the metal band (=cost money). Also, the battery isnt changeable so I wont accept any used one because you dont know how good the battery still is or how bad it is treated , if you know what I mean...
Sent from my N8000.

i'd also want mine back, or a new one
and certainly not with a screen that's not correctly aligned
i don't know where you get the info about the 6 months guarantee in Europe, here in the Netherlands it's at least 1 year

Wrong Thread.

LOL, my very first SW2, the one from the 1st post, has died, after around 3 months working time, no power, no screen, no whatsoever... Damn suck!
After that, i went to Pebble, but i can't bear the "screen quality" of its, so i went back to SW2, this time it's a silver one, hope it live long enough until the Android Wear device arrive

Broken Screen, Need help knowing what to replace.

The glass part of my screen broke recently but it kept functioning, I could still use it like nothing was wrong. Then earlier today my screen went black but I can still feel the haptic feedback when pressing the menu and other buttons. I would just like to know, do I have to buy the digitizer along with the screen, just the screen or just the LCD. Thanks in advance.
Search replacing screen i727 xda. It's been discussed before. From what I remember you need to replace the screen and digitizer. It's next to impossible to separate the two.

After changing a bunch of screens for both apple and android....I would always recommend buying the complete LCD & digitizer screen replacement referred to as a screen assembly....if not it involves heat guns lots of glue that is not ment to unstick and so forth..... Most devices including the i727 make changing the screen assembly easy...
There are plenty of sites out there to show you step by step for most devices such as ifixit its my go to...for many devices and they have parts also. YouTube is another treasure trove.

I had just gotten my Skyrocket setup exactly like I wanted it and then it slipped off the seat of the car and I stepped on it. You have to replace the entire screen/digitizer assembly. There are some good you tubes on how to do that. I'll let you in on a "what not to do". I inadvertently severed the cable to the lighted buttons. No prob its an $8.00 fix. I put the new screen back in the phone, which is held by double sided tape so it wouldn't hurt to order some also. When the new cable came I looked at the phone and thought the hole at the top of the screen would be good leverage to remove the screen as I had scraped off most of the old adhesive. That was a mistake and almost a huge mistake. I cracked the new screen when I pulled on that opening on the new screen. I was just about to throw it in the trash and thought that I had the screen cable readily accessible I should plug it in. It worked perfectly- the digitizer doesn't go up that far and my case protector covers 95% of the broken screen area. It has worked perfectly since before Embryo 5. One of these days I'll get around to replacing the screen with a new one but not today. Have a pix attached.

I broke my screen and replaced it for $150 off ebay. Just buy the LCD, it comes with the digitizer and faceplate, everything you need. You can't just separate the two and do it yourself for cheap, you'll ruin it. Took me no more than 10 minutes from start to finish. I recommend getting something to pry open your phone (the kits are like $2) because if you use anything like a flathead or what not, you'll scratch and chip the edges. Nails work but it's frustrating and you might put too much force trying to pry it and snap a clip.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf6jqYejWNU (try to ignore his coke nail)
This video is what I used to make sure there weren't any cables I had to worry about when opening it. 7 screws, some patience prying it apart and your phone is open. The rest is just swapping out the internals to your new screen. It's really simple. Not worth sending it off for $200+ and being without your phone for a week just to keep your warranty. It's probably up or almost up anyway and you still have a nice, new-looking phone to sell when you're done with it.
Plus you get the satisfaction of fixing your phone yourself.

Light from the gaps?

Hello everyone.
I'd like to ask you to take a closer look to the gaps between screen and chasis, do you have in some places around light when the screen is on? You must look at this in dark place.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app
No light from the gap. I just measured as I'm sending mine back, I have no gap on the left and a rather big one on the right side. It's 0.25mm at any point and 0.30 mm at the widest.
In a another Forum 5 user has the same problem with the light in the gap.
I have 2 gaps in my 3rd replacement.
One either side of the bezel at the bottom. To me that seemed like an obvious place where the phone would allow water in. I submerged it in water for 15 mins, and yep, it allowed water into the device. The back of the phone now makes a clicking/cracking sound when even slight pressure is applied, presumably the glass sticking to the internals.
I won't ever be buying or using a Sony phone ever again. Their quality control is non existant.
Either gonna be a note 4 or nexus 6 next I think. I'd advise people to keep away from the Z3 unless you can be bothered with constant replacements till you get a good one, just like you need to with any Apple product.
For a £500 phone its a joke.

I can confirm that I have a little gap I the top right corner between the glass and metal frame, closest to micro sd card slot. A little light does bleed from this gap, does anyone think that this will affect the waterproofing of the phone? With all the other problems people have mentioned I'm worried about sending for a replacement and getting a phone with more problems. Other than that small issue my z3 is without any other issues.

Try with a pressure test using cpu-z. Check the thread about a failed waterproofing test in general section. I wrote there too
My screen seems evenly set but I have light bleed all along the right side of the frame with intervals in between. I took picture with my sister's GS4, it looks worse in real life than the pics.
Should I get a replacement?

Yes you should. I bought a z3 two weeks ago, same problems (light bleed, gaps....)... I sent it back... Now, I'm waiting for good news about that, and hoping, with new batches, Sony can solve those problems
I managed to get cross shipping though they are on backorder at TMO, sending my old one tomm itself. They wanted to charge $50 restocking at first lol. By the way you cannot exchange at a store for pre-orders, even if done at a store.
Damn! My Z3 also seems to have this gap!
I just posted a thread on how my phone got water damaged, I'm beginning to think that gap may be responsible for what happened.
Any pics of the light bleed? Have you seen mine?
I have some minor light bleed along the left side of my device. It is only visible when I turn up the brightness to maximum. I was afraid to water test my phone because of this bit of light bleed but my girlfriend decided to dunk my phone anyways -_-. "you paid for a water proof phone it better be water proof!" Can't argue with that. Dropped it into a bowl of water and brought it back out pretty quickly. No issues yet.
Yup I can confirm the gap.I've also tested phones waterproofing But there is no harm

[Q] Have people had cracks repaired or refused

My screen just cracked on my Z3. No drops, no twisting. Just in my front pocket.
It's just a single crack going diagonally from side to side, no marks on case or chips in the glass.
I've requested a return to Sony. Although the phone is insured, I want to make an Issue with Sony as I think this is a manufacturers fault and shouldn't have to be paid by my insurance company.
I did try and search this topic and will fill in the survey later when I can access google drive. but...
I would like to know if people have had cracked screens repaired or refused.
If there are a majority of cracks repaired under warranty it would stand me in good stead as "proof" there is a fault. If the phone was not repaired, at least we know we may as well save the hassle and just self repair.
so simple question...
If you have a had a cracked screen, did it get repaired under warranty?

Don't think you'll get many replies, certainly not enough thousand replies to justify this as a "fault". These things aren't normal and 99% of the time are drops.
I dropped mine from shoulder height, no case, onto wooden floor, no damage.
I have a crack...no drop, no nothing. I'll post pic once I get access to a camera. Hoping to get it warranty

In the 2nd photo it appears that the metal frame is sticking out. There's even a gap in between the frame and the glass... could it be that the crack was caused by an external physical damage?

I see. It's a lighting thing as it does not look like that on the device itself (needed angle to show the crack). The back itself has a tiny gap at that corner and the diagonally opposite corner between the side and the back plate itself (and subsequently hardly any gap on the other two corners). Something that always annoyed me about the new corner pieces is that when you run your finger around the outside, it's noticeable that they don't sit as flush as the straight sides
Just to answer my own question, my phone was sent away Friday, I messaged them today and it *appears* (so far) it's a free repair and just waiting on parts, I should have it back next week.
So kudos to the service centre.
Now lets look at an armoured case then.....
I find this self crack thing hard to believe. I've owned a z1, z2 and z3 and this has never happened to me.
If it is true would xperia care not take care of it? If its a self crack it should come out clean in an inspection right?
Edit: oh thats great to hear [emoji3]

My phone is insured. My phone would be replaced quicker by reporting it lost than sending it back to sony. The worst case for me is a £30 excess but a quicker turn around. I have no problem admiting ive broke phones, water damage or had them lost or stolen.
Sony have repaired it FOC (missing parts..... so going to take a few weeks), I dont need to convince anyone of what happened. Belive me or not, it makes no difference. Genuine. It broke in my pocket on the way to work. I'm not having a pop at you. Im just as incredulious that a phone could break in my pocket. But it did.
Anyway, after 10 days got an email from sony, out of stock on parts... have they had to replCe so many they have run out? Or just run minimal stock.... anyway... watch this space.
Final Update.
I got a Phone back. Different emei number so I guess they got bored and sent a new one. at 3 weeks, I hope it's that last time I have to send anything back

Let me know how it is with a glass screen protector.
I love having waterproof cases so I couldn't help myself and thank god for HTC Champions. Was able to snag one up for 67.83 with 3-8 day shipping from their discount store we'll see how it performs right now I've been using my 6 Plus due to having a lifeproof on it now.
EDIT: Saw it on B&H Photo for $69.99 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1130870-REG/htc_99h_20088_00_active_case_for_htc.html

What do you mean? Of course you can't use a touch screen under water; that's the nature of the beast. Or do you mean that this HTC case isn't actually water resistant?
Just got mine. Fits fine with the .33 mm glass protector.
My one qualm is that you have to get used to pressing the buttons. Maybe it's the screen protector offsetting them, but the case clicks if you push the buttons wrong, possibly allowing air/water in.

That is probably due to your thick glass screen protector. Here's a video that explains why (it's on an iPhone 6 Plus, but the principal applies):
Also, (with me being paranoid with things like that,) because you've attempted to snap your case shut with such a thick screen protector installed, it would cause me (personally) to now distrust the water resisting ability of the cases seals, since you've now stretched the locking mechanisms.
I know .It can't do the normal use under the water. but even not under the water.

Are you saying that the case reduces functionality in general?
Yes, So do you have one workable for me?
Wow. $100 for a case, it's too expensive for me:crying:
It came today. Passed the initial soak test with no issue. Put my phone in, noticed that the buttons weren't responsive.
As it turns out, I didn't have the case snapped together properly. And the top will not stay snapped properly, and if you press on the back, the side with the volume buttons undoes its proper seal.
HTCs box says to contact the retailer, so I've reached out to B&H. Hopefully it was a manufacturing defect and not that my M9 is fatter than others'.
I got mine late last week, and while it is plenty waterproof, the ports for the usb charger are much too small for anything but the pen cable. As i use a car dock almost daily that has a special connector, that isn't going to work, so I'm gonna return it.

Yeah, exactly the same issue as mine. Takes a bit of pressure to snap the buttons into place, and the top doesn't stay shut.

My replacement from B&H should be here tomorrow. The first thing I'm going to do is try to make sure that it snaps shut properly. If not, I'm not risking my phone in it, and HTC will have made me sad.

Not really.
---------- Post added at 10:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:58 AM ----------
I received my replacement from B&H.
This one seals fairly better than the first, however still not as completely as the instruction booklet would have me believe. It passed the water test fine. I even dropped it from chest height into a cooler full of ice water and pop to impress my coworkers, and it was fine. The issue where you could squeeze it and it'd pop open is reduced on this case, but not completely gone; there's one spot that i can squeeze and the seal will appear to break.
So as of this time, my mini-review is as follows:
Better integrated screen protector than LifeProof can muster.
Better sound than LifeProof (though this is also probably due to the speakers).
Call volume in the ear piece is diminished (as to be expected), so don't expect to be able to take a call in a busy place.
Great hand feel, slim.
Not quite trustworthy (IMO) yet. I'd be fine with it to protect walking to the car, or riding a water ride at an amusement park. I don't know that I'd take it for a swim yet.
I've reached out to HTC on Facebook and Twitter and haven't received a reply yet.
Sensitivity of the screen in the water
Who can tell if the screen is easy to control?

Note 20 Ultra 5G - Paint chipped??

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, i have left on all the original coverings and added a Spigen Neo Hybrid case which i had for my S10+... i clean my device weekly and it seems that despite it being in a case and screen protected etc. the paint along the bottom of the screen (where the screen meets the bottom) appears to have chipped off along the edge. Has anyone else had this kind of issue with theirs, its not been dropped or anything... pretty annoyed that my black phone has a nice shiny silver chip out of the bottom... I have a Galaxy Watch that has been around quite a bit and has stood the test alot better than this £1200 phone protected by cases and covers... quite disappointed...
EDIT: Finally got a pic...

Pics?
Sounds like a manufacturing defect ie improperly prepped metal
If your within any relevant cooling off period then send it back for a refund or replacement.
If they question the chip explain what's happened and see what they say.
Be prepared for them suggesting it's user caused however
I'll try and get a pic, will have to use the Mrs phone to do so ? I've had it a month now so well outside of the colling off periods, will get a pic and post later

All along the bottom edge is definitely a manufacturer defect. Of course I assuming you don't use MEK to clean your screen
One concern is if the damage goes below the glass it will breach the seal and may allow water, moisture and dust to get inside.
If that's the case it should to be replaced.

I had something similar to what your describing happen on my s10 and s20. For some reason I've always had better luck with the Notes. Would return the S series until I finally got one that was solid.
Samsung should have gone with an anodized finish... goofballs.

What, what, what? That image gave me spacial disorientation.
I see what maybe looks like a small nick...
Result, I finally got 5 minutes to nip into the o2 shop and ask for their opinion, they told me to contact samsung... so I did a samsung chat, who then told me to call samsung, after 4 attempts at getting through to the right people they then told me to call O2... so I did an O2 chat and after being transferred 3 times and arguing the fact my phone was still within the 30 day period they have agreed to swap it... wonder why I put off contacting anyone ?

Yeah It was difficult to describe to as its silver on black its standing out like a sore thumb to me... considering it was under protection too... I have not tried to overplay how big it is to anyone I have mentioned it too, and most people would probably move on with their lives, but I have a bit of obsessive compulsion to keep my devices looking new and this happening through no fault of my own has been driving me mad
Good to hear you achieved a satisfactory.
In the Uk its the seller of the phone that applies the warranty so it was right to contact o2.

The image isn't that good plus no stereoscopic vision on it.
Looks like impact damage but could have happened during production or assembly.
Doesn't look like the case seal is compromised.
I be inclined to send it back especially if I knew it wasn't caused by me. That's a lot of down time though.
If the case seal is intact ie it's a clean nick with no hairline fractures extending under the screen, your call.
If it's covered by the case, you seldom see it.
When you eventually have it serviced you could have the frame replaced but Samsung certainly won't cover it then.
Meh, I feel your pain
I have same issue! Top left corner, bottom left corner, and in between those 2 corners paint is peeling off. it's 2 month old phone, never dropped, always in my hands... Damn it's 1400eur phone with most quality issues...
Green tinted display, heat issues, paint peeling off, etc...
