My Google pixel 2 xl is dropped - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I dropped my pixel 2xl thrice in last 1 month. What happens to a phone when it is dropped. Also Is it all ok if the phone is running and looking fine even if it is dropped for 3 times from a height of 2-3 feet???

What happens? Maybe the screen will break. Maybe an internal component will become damaged, which may not manifest for some time. Maybe nothing.

Screen turn-on glitch?

My original Charge died yesterday and I got it replaced today at Costco. This one seems even quirkier than my original Charge.
In particular, it does this weird screen hiccup thing whenever I take it out of standby. Here's a video of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie404frcnbw
Also, it drops 4G constantly. Usually to 3G, but sometimes down to 1x. My original Charge never did either of these things.
Anyone else having issues like these?
ya, i had 3 replacements that did the same thing. one also had a white cirle and the other a black circle on the screen when it was waking from sleep and the 3rd was just very unresponsive among other issues like force closes and such. It would seem that the replacement phones they send out are garbage. At the very least quality control blows on clnr charges. I was sent out a total of 5 charges. 3 had the same issue you have plus other issues. 1 had a blown speaker when making calls and the 5 seamed to be ok till today. Starting to have a few issues but idk if its just the phone or if some other defect. I started another thread asking for feed back. so far 70 some view no responses lol
May need to just keep exchanging till they send you a good one. the phone in general is awesome. My wife also has one and has never had an issue. I havent been that lucky with clnr charges.

Intermittent Lag makes phone impossible to use

Description of the problem:
This happens several times in a day, but I have had a few days when this did not happen. When waking the phone it becomes super slow, like 1-2 frames per second slow. After rebooting- the recovery is just as slow. Sometimes the view is moved vertically up, the top part that is moved outside of screen and is drawn ant the bottom. Sometimes the image flickers. I have not noticed any pattern what stops this behaviour, it is just over after some time (5s to 2 hours).
What I have tred with no success:
Rebooting, clearing cache, factory reset, bringing the phone to full stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/tool-oneplus-one-return-to-stock-t2970390), updating to latest version, several ROMs and different kernels with each of them. After flashing any new rom the phone used to work fine for a day or two, then the stutter reapeared. Tried it without installing any apps- same problems.
I had to replace the cracked screen and the camera that didn't focus to far objects. The touchscreen ribbon is now insulated from the metal LCD back since some people suggested this might be the reason for touchscreen responsiveness issues.
It seems that the processes work normally, but the view on the screen is updated slowly.
What made the problem less bad:
I had applied a glass screen protector. Removing it increased the time between slowdowns.
Since I bought the phone secondhand and had tinkered with it I cannot get it replaced.
I have tried everything I could, now I need your help
Any suggestions?

Noone? No ideas?
Hi,
Sounds like a Hardware issue to me.The board ist mostly bad soldered. It can happen sometimes in the factory(not only at OnePlus, Samsung, HTC too), even if they test the devices before shipping.
Background: We had some germans around here had the same issue, they got a new replacment by OnePlus, OPO support told the customers that the hardware was faulty.
Can u afford another Mainboard for the OPO ? That will fix that issues for sure.
Well that makes sense I'll poke around to see if I can get one for as little as possible. So far I'd expect to spend ~250$ and that is just bad business
no worrys, u dont need to spent that much.check aliexpress or if your lucky buy a dropped OnePlus One on eBay. One with working mainboard. It will cost around 30-50% less than a single Mainboard would Sounds ridiculous but its true.

Have failure rates on the google devices been crazy high?

Hi Everyone. As the title states are the failure rates on google devices crazy high? I originally got a google pixel XL 1 for free after the battery issues the original Nexus 6P was having. I've had to deal with constant device replacement every since. I've had to replace it 3 times in a very short period for internal speaker thats used for phone calls failed (i could hear people's voice but they couldn't hear mine). Now last night i go unlock my phone and i see the following error message on the lock screen
"fingerprint hardware not available"
so i reboot the phone and the fingerprint settings even disappears from the settings menu. I call google support and they come to the conclusion its hardware failure.
I don't abuse my devices at all and if you look at my current pixel there isn't a scratch on it. This fall it looks like i will need a new device (i'm using an old device i had laying around the house for now). I much prefer android but if i can't get a google experience device then i will got back to IOS (i want updates). Samsung have beautiful hardware but i want updates. So i would like to get maybe a pixel 2 xl (if i get great price on one) or a pixel 3 xl this fall but of course i don't want to deal with these hardware failures anymore. Any advice would be appreciated.
We have no idea if the Pixel 3 will have any major issues. No point in worrying about that before the phone has even been released.
The hardware failure issues with your Nexus 6P and Pixel XL are unrelated. It doesn't mean Google phones have a high failure rate. The 6P was known to have battery issues but going through several RMAs fir the Pixel XL could just be bad luck.
From what I've seen the most common issues with the Pixel 2/XL have been less severe than with the Nexus 5x and 6P. The Pixel 2 XL seems to have had more issues than the Pixel 2 but even those are pretty minor compared to the 5x bootloop and 6P bootloop and battery problems.

Yes, Google devices have had a long history of issues:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/time-nexus-pixel-device-didnt-major-bug-t3578515
That being said, the Pixel 2 and 2 XL appear to finally breaking that trend.
The latest Pixels are headed in the right direction...

Phone gets crazy and reset itself when used as sat nav

Hello everyone,
I just got a Mi 10 Ultra this week here in the UK and started using it as a sat nav in my car. Two days ago I did notice that the phone suddenly starts flashing like crazy and then reset itself many times when I hit a pot hole (or several of them, some routes are in bad condition here in my area) and the car does a big jump. My phone is attached to a screen holder in my car. The same happened again yesterday.
Why is that? It seems something related to high vibration/big jump, perhaps I need to do something in the settings to prevent this from happening?
I have an old Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and that never happens even if I shake it heavily. Actually I had to stop to take my M10U from the holder and put the Redmi Note 4 instead... any comments?

Pixel XL vs. OG Pixel: Which Is More Reliable (Longer Life - Bricks / Dies Less Frequently)?

I'm going to get an OG Pixel or Pixel XL, to use as a Google Photos uploader
(I'm ideally going to aim at the 128 GB model, if that is relevant)
I understand that both of these phones have been plagued with batteries bricking, and other bricking-issues
I want to know which one is the more reliable of the two. That-is, which is going to be more likely to last longer, used just as a simple uploader, without issue
Any thoughts?
I bought both.
Actually, I also bought two XL but returned one because of the battery issue... that XL would shut off randomly at like 20% and charging to 100% then restarting would show like 60%... but leaving it plugged in seemed fine. Either way, didn't want to risk it and the seller was willing to refund the phone.
Personally, i'd say get the non-XL version. Both phones get quite hot and may refuse to upload to Google Photos if they are too hot. My solution is to get a Black Shark FunCooler 2Pro (it's essentially a peltier cooler for your phone). It gets the Pixel back surface down to 17C and keeps Google Photos uploading happily.
