I dropped my Moto G – annoyingly only a few months after I'd replaced the battery. Now it won't boot up.
If I plug it into a charger, the 'battery charged' icon flashes on and off alternately with the LED light.
If I connect it to my Windows 10 PC, I repeatedly get the notification message "USB device not recognized: The last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
If I press Volume Down when the phone is connected to the charger, it will enter the Fastboot Flash Mode screen, but if I select Recovery or Normal Powerup nothing happens – it just goes back to the flashing 'battery charged' icon. I haven't tried the other options.
If I press Volume Down when the phone is connected to the PC, it enters the Fastboot Flash Mode screen, and this time there are no Windows USB errors. From a command prompt, fastboot devices recognizes the Moto G. So I think there may be hope!
How should I proceed from here? I can use fastboot but not adb. I'd be very grateful for any help.

When I get that part I get into fastboot, there is about 5 seconds and then immediately goes out, someone help me please
Hi. So I'm trying to unlock my bootloader. If I plug the moto g into my PC even when in fastboot it just turns itself back on. I cannot turn it off at all when it's plugged in. Any suggestions?
Edit: I also cannot select anything in fast boot or factory reset (the factory reset button in settings does nothing)
What PC/OS are you using? Try a different one if you can. Does it also turn itself on if you just plug it into a charger when in fastboot mode?
(You can't enter fastboot while the phone is plugged in, you need to unplug it, then start it in fastboot mode, and then connect it to your pc)
Also, have you already installed motorola drivers?
Visit andriodxda.com and follow procedure to root moto g 1st gen. It will perfectly work for you

I have a pixel 2 I was trying to flash a rom on the phone. I have messed up terribly and now I can only boot into the screen showen below. Abd can't even recognize the device. I can switch too recover option, boot menu but what ever I choose brings me back to the same screen. Can anyone help?
Connect it to your device running ADB and fastboot and type 'fastboot devices' and you should see a serial number appear?
If it still doesn't get recognised you can disconnect the device, power off, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or longer until it vibrates then plug it back into the pc and try ADB/fastboot devices again. It may take a few attempts but it will work.
Good luck
Is fastboot/download mode even possible on this phone (I have d838 model)? When I hold Power + volume up and connect to computer, phone briefly shows "download mode", but then goes to "Firmware Update Do not unplug the USB connection until the process is complete". And it just stays they at 0%.
