Rollback from 8.1 to 8.0? - Nokia 3 Questions & Answers

Hello, my Nokia 3 received the 8.1 update last night, but I absolutely hate it. I installed it in a heartbeat since I knew that it fixed some ugly 8.0 things (such as the white dropdown menu or whatever it's called, which is now black again), but I didn't know that it introduced even more bad things. For one, notifications now turn the screen on if the screen is off, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change that behaviour, all I can find are ways to hide the notification contents from the lock screen, which is not what I want, I'm fine with notification text being visible, I just don't want the screen to lit up. Also, Pokémon Go. Using 8.0 was annoying enough because I had to keep reinstalling version 12.6.85 of the Play Services, but with 8.1 there's no hope at all.
So, to sum it up, how can I rollback to Android 8.0? I guess I need to root my phone or something, but is there an Android 8.0 rom somewhere (possibly a recent one from November)? Is that even a thing? I know nothing about this stuff, I need step by step instructions.
Thanks in advance to anyone who's going to dedicate some of his time to help me.

I'm guessing your bootloader isn't unlocked right? The only option I see is to rollback to 7.x by flashing ost then upgrade back to 8.0, however you will lose all the data on your phone so I suggest you backup first
You can check this link for more instructions. Although it's a Nokia 5 thread, the method still works

Happy New Year xda family.
Today I did try to upgrade 8.0 to 8.1 but failed three times. Get error of certification.
But today I was reading nokia 3 forum found everyone was complaining about rom. I think let me wait until stable 8.1 will be released.
Is there any solution to upgrade to 8.1 without any difficulty?

Automatic System Update Disabled - Still Got notification?

So I SWEAR I saw this mentioned somewhere earlier today but after searching I can't seem to locate it.
As the title says. I have Automatic system updates turned OFF. Turned that off right after I got it unlocked and rooted.
Verizon Pixel XL NDE63P
Today I get a notification regarding Android 7.1 Update. I didn't tap on it, couldn't clear it. Was concerned that the update might auto install without my permission or something. Well that hasn't happened, and NOW the notification is gone. I don't want to update yet...
I was thinking that turning off automatic system updates would mean it wouldn't even check to know there was an update. Am I going to be living with a nag that comes back with a hair trigger update button. Had that on Samsungs in the past. Will make you crazy always having to tell it NO try tomorrow every day...
Just wanted to see if anyone had seen this behavior or if I was just loosing my marbles here.
Thanks!
Screwit, just sideloaded the update. Everything is good, unlocked, rooted, customer kernel etc...

Keyboard "freeze" following 6.0.1 update

Hi everyone,
My phone updated to Android 6.0.1 a couple of weeks ago, as the update rolled out.
Since then, I've been experiencing some sort of keyboard "freeze" while I type. The keyboard doesn't lag, it just stops taking in the strokes after having pressed a few letters. I have to stop typing for a fraction of a second and when I start again, it does take in the keystrokes (until it "freezes" again). I have uploaded a 20-second video to show exactly what the problem is, as it is hard to describe in details: youtu.be/5JI-Zsji85E (I cannot embed it as I am new to the forums)
This is annoying as I cannot type quickly, I periodically have to stop while I type.
I have a Onetouch Idol 3, 4.7 inches
Model number is 6039S
Android version 6.0.1
Build number 1BGD-UED2
I have already tried the following but none of these would work:
- Reset to factory settings
- Change keyboard (I use Swype but the same did happen through the stock keyboard)
- Turn off all animations
Any idea what the problem might be?
Used to love my Idol 3 until that update, any help would be appreciated!
I am in the same boat. I thought I was going crazy until I saw your post. Does your double tap the screen to turn it on also not work as expected? Just today I downloaded the Mobile Upgrade Q program and completely reloaded my phone. I'll let you know how things go.

I just realized it isn't only the keyboard, it seems to be the whole screen that stops working. As if the connection between the screen and the hardware got lost for a fraction of a second and then got back.
However, it can't be a hardware problem as it it intermitent: sometimes the phone will work fine for half a day and then the problem comes back for a few hours.
I never use the double tap screen to turn on so I wouldn't know :/ .
I'll be waiting to know if the Mobile Upgrade Q program worked for you!
have you made a factory reset after update to 6.0.1?

Yep I have, it didn't change a thing, which is why I tend to believe that the bug is due to the android version itself.
Yes, this is also my experience. My advice would be to stay the heck away from this update for now.

Screen goes black, buttons don't respond, can get calls from other phones to me

Hi all, I have been facing a really weird problem for the past few weeks. Sometimes all of a sudden, my phone screen completely turns black, and the buttons (as well as the alert slider) stop responding. There is no indication whatsoever that it is NOT switched off. However when I try calling it from another phone, ring can be heard as if my phone is working fine. I don't understand where the problem lies. Any suggestions are welcome.
I am rooted with Magisk 19.3, Riru-EdXposed 0.4.5.1 Sandhook, Riru-Core v19.5.
Edit: Android Pie. OOS 9.5.10.GM21AA
I had this problem recently when accessing certain apks. Reflashing the firmware sorted it for me.
no root same problem to me after I update from Android 9 to Android 10

Thanks I will try doing that.
Same problem here when opening quite a few apps. Issue didn't start until I updated to Android 10 (and rooted), on a converted T-Mobile variant. Wonder if that is the source of our problem. I'm sorely tempted to use the MSM tool and go back on TMO's Android 9 (and pray for a official update to 10). Unless someone can find a solution to this, rebooting the phone every time I want to open certain apps is a real pain.

It definitely is a A10 issue as I too have started to have this issue when opening games and ram extensive apps. A workaround is to open the game or app in split screen mode and once the app has started you can switch back to fullscreen mode or start the app from recents. That has worked for me 100% of the time. The 10.0.1 update seemed to make it worse because you have to reboot the phone to escape the black screen were as at first you could use gestures to escape the app.

Good idea using split screen, I'll have to start doing that for the time being. I moved over to Open Beta 3 and the issue is still there and worst as with 10.0.1. Hopefully OnePlus can nail this bug soon. It's turning a otherwise amazing phone into a headache.
I have the same problem. Running 10.0 rooted. For me, this has only happened when opening Youtube Vanced. One clever solution is to enable "Quickly turn on camera" and doublepress power if this happens. This launches camera and returns the screen to normal.

Experiencing this too, it does seem to be related to certain .apks, how bizarre is that? Really don't want to re-flash as I am encrypted... Can you dirty-flash with an encrypted system and not loose any data?

I reflashed through TWRP and all data was fine. I'm encrypted too.
But it goes without saying, make sure you do a backup before flashing anything

UI Inconsistencies on 10.3 for different devices.

Hello everybody, Happy New Year to all! First post on here after a few years but I never left XDA without an answer till now. My question is about the color of the notifications and the Quick Toggles drop-down menu. I was on beta 3 (The *new* Beta 3, on Android 10) and my notifications and Quick Toggles finally became true black like I always wanted them to be. I didn't think much of it, just welcomed the change. Problem is, I then decided to backup my phone and install 10.3 stable, 2 days after it came out, via local upgrade. I backed up my phone and installed, rebooted and was greeted with a phone with all its data but reporting 10.6 (and having grey notifications and Quick Toggles). I knew that *shouldn't* happen and since I'd already backed up everything, I decided to wipe everything and reinstall. Problem was, the only rollback package I managed to find was 9.0.2 and that was after hours upon hours of searching. I installed the package via Local Upgrade and wiped everything from the stock recovery, booted into it fine and set up my phone. I then installed all OTAs back up to 10.3. Phone booted up fine and everything seemed normal. EXCEPT, for the fact my UI is pretty much how it was on Pie. I watched videos of OP6s with 10.3 having all black notifications and Quick Toggles and read posts from other users in Reddit and OnePlus forums where they either had the same UI as me or the all black one. I've read multiple, very differing accounts from users of the same phone on the same software and also noticed this inconsistency myself but I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere, no one seems to know how the UI is supposed to be and I don't know enough about how Android works to know what actually controls this part of the OS's looks. I'm starting to believe I did something wrong but although I've been through many roms, mods and magisk modules, I don't actually know what to do this time. Any insight, advice, help or guidance, would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Solution to almost every bug after the upgrade to oxigen os 12 ( color os 12) THINK TWO TIMES BEFORE YOU UPDATE ,YOU WILL REGRET

Before I found this solution, my quick settings menu was buggy, not registering any change I made , and also do not disturb was not working . The solution is to reset phone settings , only phone , not factory reset . You will loose all your settings, but everything should start to work as expected . The only great loss for me is the wifi password list that it's wiped . Everything else , pictures , apps data , contacts etc... Aren't touched . Also the pocket mode that has no option in oxigen os 12 , stay on ( I had it on before in oxigen 11)
Interesting! Good find! cheers
Thanks for the hint mate! Hi have just sent my 2YO phone to the repair shop under warranty to get the battery replaced. I have factory reset it. I don't know if the guys there will wipe it even more. Anyway I was experiencing issues with the "do not disturb" mode as well.
And oh, once it will be back I will have to wipe it once again in order to unlock the bootloader to gain the root access. Wipe after wipe....
Final solution...
downgrade
unlock bootloader
flash a custom rom (I tried Pixy android 12 version)
flash magisk
profit , everithing simply works and is super stable
DON'T UPDATE TO OXYGEN OS 12 , it's no more a oneplus os , it's a mix of color os + bugs + removed functions + bloatware + vomit made in oppo
They ruined all the oneplus series that received the update
I got my Andriod 12 update recently and since them it's a total havoc. I can't even pull down notification bar; When I first try to pull it, it show an arrow mark and then I need to press it again for notification panel. Tried resetting all the settings, still it's there. Also, notification banner is transparent, I don't understand why; can't even disable it.
Is there any way I can roll back without losing all the data?

1st time I'm. Not updating. Read all about what was missing and what had changed in OP forum. Icon unable to change and all the bugs in stable version. I'll stick with OS11 untill new phone which won't by the way be OnePlus. It was good while it lasted.. Also price is on. Par with other major brands now. Unlike when I 1st had OnePlus one.. But thanks for the heads up on XDA forum's as well..

Acer s200, htc hd2 , nexus s , galaxy nexus , nexus 4 , nexus 5 , nexus 6 , xiaomi mi a2 , oneplus nord . This is my android story ( also nexus 7 , nexus 7 2013 , nexus 10 , lg g watch , ticwatch pro 3) and now that oneplus is gone I still have motorola , nokia , google pixel . I think I will go with the last one the next time or switch to ios .I immensely hate apple and apple products , but lately google is gone bugs way and not fixing because they don't give a f*ck . They also can't make a stock os work with a stock wear os ( that is also closed source to be more stable as said by Google)
