UI Inconsistencies on 10.3 for different devices. - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hello everybody, Happy New Year to all! First post on here after a few years but I never left XDA without an answer till now. My question is about the color of the notifications and the Quick Toggles drop-down menu. I was on beta 3 (The *new* Beta 3, on Android 10) and my notifications and Quick Toggles finally became true black like I always wanted them to be. I didn't think much of it, just welcomed the change. Problem is, I then decided to backup my phone and install 10.3 stable, 2 days after it came out, via local upgrade. I backed up my phone and installed, rebooted and was greeted with a phone with all its data but reporting 10.6 (and having grey notifications and Quick Toggles). I knew that *shouldn't* happen and since I'd already backed up everything, I decided to wipe everything and reinstall. Problem was, the only rollback package I managed to find was 9.0.2 and that was after hours upon hours of searching. I installed the package via Local Upgrade and wiped everything from the stock recovery, booted into it fine and set up my phone. I then installed all OTAs back up to 10.3. Phone booted up fine and everything seemed normal. EXCEPT, for the fact my UI is pretty much how it was on Pie. I watched videos of OP6s with 10.3 having all black notifications and Quick Toggles and read posts from other users in Reddit and OnePlus forums where they either had the same UI as me or the all black one. I've read multiple, very differing accounts from users of the same phone on the same software and also noticed this inconsistency myself but I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere, no one seems to know how the UI is supposed to be and I don't know enough about how Android works to know what actually controls this part of the OS's looks. I'm starting to believe I did something wrong but although I've been through many roms, mods and magisk modules, I don't actually know what to do this time. Any insight, advice, help or guidance, would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Verizon Touch Pro2 MR2 Update

The MR2 update is out on the PCD site. Looked in some of the forums and nobody has mentioned it. Anyone install yet? I'm still downloading. Hoping for an updated Sense at least. PCD site only mentions a general update for VZNavigator, Contact Cards and Time Stamp.
Edit: I've downloaded and run the update and now I'm stuck at the starting HTC screen (now green letters on white) with the version numbers in red in bottom left. I've re-booted and sticks at the same place.
I'm having the same problem. I've heard you can go back to the MR1 update. Also, sounds like people who unlocked their phones are the ones having the issue. Anybody else have any info?
TP2 Verizon MR2 update
Found this nice summary of changes over at WMExperts:
ROM: 4.01.605.15/Radio: 2.35.00WV
Operating system has been upgraded to Windows Mobile®
6.5 COM2.5.
The HTC Sense™ user interface has been improved.
Visual Voice Mail (version 1.1.12.11) now comes preloaded on the device.
GlobalAccess Connect support. For international Internet access, you can tether your smartphone to a notebook.
Enhanced VZ Navigator® performance.
Improved auto-configuration of Daylight Saving Time.
Improved word prediction and autocorrection.
Enhanced on-screen keyboard layouts.
New, compact QWERTY keyboard option.
When composing email or text messages, type the first few letters of the recipient’s name in the To field to see a list of possible matches.
Quick setup of common email account types and an option to set up an email account manually.
However there is a problem with the update. You will need to relock it apparently to load it. Here is what they found:

I'm going to now try a straight dump and rebuild to see if it is just something in their updater thats causing the issue.
Yep, It is the boot.rgu and the OEM_FLASHDRV_1.DLL that's causing the problem!"
It is Sense 2.5, as I mentioned back in March.
One thing I noticed, is that my customized taskbar doesn't work correctly on this ROM. Some icons remain stock while others change. Some DLL's have changed names I guess.
They also mentioned that the task manager is gone, does that mean that I cant choose what to close and when to close it now?

I got it last night but haven't had a chance to check it out.
You were right Brent!
I forgot about loosing the HTC taskbar. Looking forward to finally be able to add customs tabs now that I have HTC sense 2.5.
I'm having a problem getting my phone re-locked. I've gone back to the stock ROM, but when I try to run the RhodiumW_SPLRelocker_063.exe nothing happens. Any suggestions or can anyone point me to a thread that can help? Thanks!
UPDATE Sorry I'm a dufus, forgot to run it As Admin

I thought you were the one that said we would get it cause you saw at Verizon or something? If not nevermind lol.
Thanks I will check out that task manager.
One more thing, is their a cab to add appointments to home tab? I know there is cookie (which I did check out) but I really just want appointments without all the extra stuff. Thanks!

I really don't know. I am not upgrading until I find a solution to getting a programs tab that actually works.
I had mentioned in a comment over at WMExperts that the taskmanager is gone... I now realize that you have to go into the All Programs to launch it, which is a drag. I miss the one on the top-right built in to the title bar
I added taskmanager to the quick links so it'll do but I'd really prefer the old one. I also miss the appointments on the homescreen. Boot time is even longer, but flipping through emails, photos and appointments in much snappier. I really enjoy the HTC Peep Twitter tab. The settings tab makeover is well appreciated too.
Overall, I really like this update though
I noticed some slow down with peep so I took it off. It was cool to have it right there but I will stick with the awesome moTweets. Too bad you couldn't add that to a tab.
edit: I do like that it locks now when I hit standby button. No more calling people by accidently (or less frequently).
htc task manager can be added so that the top right arrow is there again. It is attached to the following thread a few times. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=125428
Hey guys Mr. X over at PPCGeeks went through and fixed the MR2 VZW Update...go to PPCGeeks website (or MightyROM website) to download it..
Did they put the good soft keyboard with the 'control' key back in this rom?
I installed MR2 yesterday and everything went fine. Until it came to running for a few hours. When the phone first boots up, everything's great, but after about an hour, it just slows to a crawl. None of the animations are smooth, just recently it took five minutes to flip from one text message to another. But, that hasn't really been so bad as about every other time I go to turn the screen back on, it just doesn't turn on and the only thing I can do is pull the battery.
Yeah, the quick links are nice, the new settings page is great and the email/text message pages flip in the same direction (seriously, who missed that in MR1?) but I went from having a nice, reliable, snappy phone, to a brick of **** that I can hardly stand to use.
I'm going back to MR1.
I was running a custom ROM on Verizon TP2. I first tried to installed the MR2 ROM and as others have said it hung on bootup. I held vol down while pressing reset and the bootloader screen will come up and if you are connected to the PC will go in to USB mode. I ran Task29 which uploaded fine but the TP2 still hung on bootup. I then went to the bootloader screen again and ran the re-lock utility over at PPCGeeks. Tried to book and still hung. Went in to bootloader again and this time reran the MR2 installed which worked and finally it boot all the way up. I still did a clear memory 1234 and everything again booted up with no problems.
I am concerned about the guy above who reported that it would slow to a crawl but many that's a result of not running Task29? Hard to imagine such a fundamental problem. I mean, I don't doubt that it happened but I can't imagine that it will happen on all installs. I just installed mine a few hours ago so I guess I'll know by tomorrow.
Good luck!!

This is/was a "clean" phone. never unlocked, no custom roms, just straight from Verizon to me to MR2 so running task29 doesn't seem necessary.
shrug. when I get some free time next year, I'll call vzw and ask them wtf happened.

Couple of problems with new S8+ caused me to have to reset twice in one day.

So far, my third iteration of setting up this phone (twice today) is working, so maybe I don't really have a question, other than "Has anything like this happened to you?", but I thought this was better in the Q&A rather than general discussion section. Mods please move if you disagree. I really did think about this, but couldn't decide where to put it.
I had to buy a new phone about two weeks ago because my S7 Edge's battery swelled up and bent the back of the phone's case. I wound up trading it in on a new S8+ (from Verizon). I love the phone even more than my S7 Edge, which is saying something.
Anyway, I like to use Samsung's themes to switch things up a bit, and I change themes every couple of days. I always search the theme store for new themes that are free. I've learned that most of them are crap, but you can usually tell by looking at the preview shots if the theme designer has gone overboard by using poor color choices/backgrounds in the dialer and messaging apps.
Ok, so first problem: I was playing with a couple of newer (free) themes:
1) Dark Night
2) [LSA]Shinny Moon Town Theme
I switched to the first theme and all was fine, but I thought it was boring, and kept looking.
When I switched to the second theme, I saw a brief message that some elements were incompatible and wouldn't be used, but the message went away before I could really read it carefully. The theme applied, though, and seemed to work correctly.
I liked the colors and style of this theme, but thought the folder icons were too ugly to live with, so I thought I'd just switch the icons back to the stock icons. Here's where things got wonky.
I went to the icons sections, picked the default Samsung icon set, and applied it. The folder icons did not switch back!
At this point, I panicked a bit and just decided to return to the stock theme. When I applied the stock theme, everything looked OK, but I noticed the Infinity wallpaper wasn't working - it just acted like a static wallpaper.
After web searching a bit, it seems this can happen if you set the Always-On Display screen background to not be just blank. I followed the steps in an online instruction for fixing this, but the infinity wallpaper still was not working.
At this point, I tried clearing all of the app caches (in Settings/Device Management/Storage) and rebooting. This did not help.
I then tried clearing the device's cache partition by looking up how to do that online. Timing is a bit tricky on holding down the power key, but after a few tries, I got it right, and managed to clear the cache partition.
Still no working infinity wallpaper. It really seemed broken, and none of the online suggestions I found worked at all.
Now, I realize this may not be a big deal to some, but it's a new phone, and I'm OCD enough to want stuff that was working out of the box to continue to work, so I decided to reset the device.
I did that, and got about 60% through my somewhat involved process in re-installing everything and re-enrolling in various services (iris scanning/fingerprints/credit cards in Samsung Pay/etc. etc. - you all know the drill).
When I went to set Smart Lock options for preventing the device from locking when I'm at home (Trusted Places) or the phone is detected on-body, I found that the Smart Lock screen was completely blank. No options appeared, and no button appeared at the bottom right to allow you to start the setup process for various Smart Lock options..
Back to Google, and I learned the fix was to remove "Smart Lock" from Trust Agents, reboot the phone, and re-add Smart Lock as a Trust Agent.
(PRO TIP: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO THAT).
After the reboot, I couldn't even keep the Settings app from crashing whenever I tried to visit the settings page where Security-related settings are managed. (Samsung's or Google's wonderfully irritating dialog box: "Settings keeps stopping" - yes, no s**t).
Clearing caches and the cache partition did not fix this problem, either, so I reluctantly and nervously reset the phone for the second time in less than 6 hours.
So, I guess my story so far is that this third time appears to be a charm, and everything so far is working great. I'm staying far away from third-party (non-Samsung) themes in the theme store for now, even though they'd always worked fine for me before.
I have absolutely no idea why I had the problem with the Smart Lock setup, though. Everything worked fine after the second reset as far as the Smart Lock setup and options, although I hadn't done anything in the previous attempt that should have interfered with something as baked in as the Smart Lock stuff. I hadn't even changed the default wallpaper or home screen setup yet!
Also learned my lesson about slavishly following steps on a website (Remove "Smart Lock' as a Trust Agent? If I'd really been thinking, this would have seemed like bad advice to me, but things weren't working right anyway, so maybe a bit of experimentation was justified, I don't know...).
Anyway, just thought I'd post my experiences in case they're of help for anyone searching for these type of problems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this setup will "take", but I have to say my confidence in messing around with manufacturer-provided capabilities and content, using their built-in software and eco-system on their current-year flagship device, has definitely been shaken.

Rollback from 8.1 to 8.0?

Hello, my Nokia 3 received the 8.1 update last night, but I absolutely hate it. I installed it in a heartbeat since I knew that it fixed some ugly 8.0 things (such as the white dropdown menu or whatever it's called, which is now black again), but I didn't know that it introduced even more bad things. For one, notifications now turn the screen on if the screen is off, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change that behaviour, all I can find are ways to hide the notification contents from the lock screen, which is not what I want, I'm fine with notification text being visible, I just don't want the screen to lit up. Also, Pokémon Go. Using 8.0 was annoying enough because I had to keep reinstalling version 12.6.85 of the Play Services, but with 8.1 there's no hope at all.
So, to sum it up, how can I rollback to Android 8.0? I guess I need to root my phone or something, but is there an Android 8.0 rom somewhere (possibly a recent one from November)? Is that even a thing? I know nothing about this stuff, I need step by step instructions.
Thanks in advance to anyone who's going to dedicate some of his time to help me.

I'm guessing your bootloader isn't unlocked right? The only option I see is to rollback to 7.x by flashing ost then upgrade back to 8.0, however you will lose all the data on your phone so I suggest you backup first
You can check this link for more instructions. Although it's a Nokia 5 thread, the method still works
Happy New Year xda family.
Today I did try to upgrade 8.0 to 8.1 but failed three times. Get error of certification.
But today I was reading nokia 3 forum found everyone was complaining about rom. I think let me wait until stable 8.1 will be released.
Is there any solution to upgrade to 8.1 without any difficulty?

Issues with the Android Pie Update (Google Play Store and Camera -> Gallery App)

Hello everyone!
Today I updated my HTC U12 + (128GB) to the Android Pie version (9.0):
First I received an update of approximately 350 MB, which was downloaded and installed without any problem, the cell phone restarted without any problems (I clarify that my cell phone is encrypted and when it restarts, ask for a password to continue with the restart). For now everything is going well.
After a while the main update was downloaded (950 MB approx) and I had it installed as soon as the download was finished.
Again the cell phone restarted, he asked me for the password to decrypt it, but after that, it went completely black, he did not advance anything else for several minutes. Amid the panic, fear and despair, I pressed the power button to restart the cell phone, asked for the password again, and apparently charged the rest of the installation.
When I went to use the Camera application, the option thath appears in the lower right corner to see the last photos taken (like a gallery) is not working well, the application crashes and is not letting me see the photos taken. (Here goes the first problem).
Another problem I have is with the Google Play Store app: It doesn't allow me to download apps from the store, as if it were locked or something like that. (Here goes the second problem).
Now, the main problem is: Like any good engineer, any problem can be solved with a reboot to see if everything loads well, but I already tried and it didn't work. And following the good traditions of the good engineer, it can be said that I do a hard reset (erasing all the settings and content of the cell phone, which I also consider an effective solution, I will not deny it), but currently I am outside the country where I have hired My phone number, and for work I need WhatsApp (and as you know, I need a text message with the code to login), and I have no way to activate Roamming.
Can anyone help this good citizen with any advice, trick, recommendation or magic spell that does not involve formatting the phone and solving these problems?
Thanks!
PD: A friend with the "same" model (64GB) had no issues with the instalation, and we compared the camera version number, and everythings is the same.
Delete camera and gallery data in settings and reboot. If that don't work do a factory reset... Sometimes after an update it is necessary to delete old caches that get stuck

I have already deleted the cache of the applications with problems, but it still does not work properly.
Thanks for your answer and support with this.
(Until I can return to my country, I cannot do the hard reset... sadly)
no issues here since yesterday evening
So far it's great, very smooth, phone (64GB blue on TMO US w/ 128GB SD) is faster & battery life seems to have improved a lot though it's only 1PM here so we will see...
Upgrade went the same way like yours except I waited patiently to come back from the "blackout" after the decryption was done, thanks for the heads-up (though I usually wait a while anyway.)
UI is a tad more responsive - I have a lot running on my phone, I use it heavily for business all day long.
I like the clock's new location in the upper left corner actually more than the previous one - however the new UI design is a too bubbly and too colorful, too 'pop' for my taste, the previous one was far more elegant, I think. I will give it some time, see if I get used to it - if not I will just look up some more subtle theme.
I only had to re-apply my notification sound setting, everything else was kept intact so it's all good.
All in all I'm satisfied so far, very smooth upgrade - it did worth the wait, thank you HTC!

Notification in Notification after Pie update

Hi,
after updating my HTC U11 to the official HTC Android Pie Europe release, so far the only real problem i found is, that for some reason the commute notification of google maps are now shown as a notification within a notification. Before the updated they worked fine. If you don´t know what that is supposed to mean, see here:
imgur.com/SQ27lSW
So far that only happens to the commute notifications. Pressing on either of the settings buttons only leads to the commute settings where i can disable the notification completly, which is not what i want.
Before the update it was only one notification with the map in a size where you could actually see something straight from the notification.
I already tried deactivating the function and activating it a few days later withouth any difference. I also tried clearing the cache and data, as it is set as a system app so that is the closest i could get to an uninstall.
As far as i know, i can´t really make a useful bug report through the app itself, as it is a notification i can hardyl make a screenshot of with the integrated bug report tool.
I also tried looking at the notification logs, but could´t see anything out of the ordinary with my simple knowledge of it: imgur.com/Fk9U0dk
After living with this "problem" for the last few months, I wanted to see if someone had the same problem and maybe found a solution in the mean time, which lead me here in the hope of finding such an answer
Thanks in advance for your help
Hi.
Last week I decided to reflash my U11, it's a Europe Pie version too, aka HTC__034. I had several bugs, with apps crashing like Google Assistant, the Dialer (unable to type a number or letter) and others. Flashing the RUU went fine and I got rid of those bugs, and even got better SOT than before (from 4 to 5 hours).
Reading your message, I just realized that I also got rid of another bug I had with the Google Phone dialer app. It also had such nested notifications when I received a call. Now it works fine.
So maybe flashing the RUU could solve your problem.
Hi kurtschmeichel,
thanks for the quick answer.
From what i read, flashing the RUU also clears all your data and settings, or did I get that wrong? As this is currently the only "problem" I have, I think I will not take this route as this entails a lot of reconfiguring.
Yes your phone will be "like new". You have to backup ALL your data before flashing a RUU.
