So I obviously HAVE a data plan, who doesn't? I login to My Verizon today to see if my brother had paid his half of the bill yet and I see a $282.58 charge. WTF?! It was for 142 MB of data. I had messed up my girlfriend's eris (didn't know you weren't supposed to use Clockwork on an eris lol) so I was letting her use my DroidX while I was fixing it. Therefore, I went back to an old motorola flip phone.
Well I just called about this charge and her reasoning was that data was still "lingering out there" when the phone was switched to a dumbphone (which I also had unlimited data on so it shouldn't have mattered anyways). So once that data was loggged, it was then charged to my account as dumphone data.
I call bull****!
They were trying to take advantage of a customer by charging them for data that they "couldn't stop" and blame it on them for switching from their expensive plan to their less expensive plan. I straight up said to her "Look, I'm a computer engineering student. I'm not an idiot when it comes to things like this. Take the charge off or we'll drop Verizon right now. The early termination fee is about as much as the damn bill anyways."
Put me on hold for a minute and came back to happily say "Since you're a long time customer with steady on time bill payment I was able to take the charge off of your account." I said "thank you, have a nice day" and hung up.
Let me know if any of this has happened to you and maybe we can send Verizon a link to the thread so they can change their process a little.
man i hate verizon they are just getting worse and worse lol.
I'll try to keep this short.
I noticed on Monday, that all of a sudden my phone wouldn't charge with an old mUSB wall charger, I thought nothing of it because it was old and not very well put together. But I plugged it into the 3-month-old Samsung-provided USB cable and it worked half the time, and didn't half the time. If I move it at all it stops charging and reconnects.
Is this common for Samsung's products? (which I will NEVER buy again, better yet, I'll switch to Verizon.)
Is this something where I can send it to ATT or Samsung to get fixed? If not, I'm paying $700 for some unlocked T-mobile phone... and I don't want to.

Are you positive that it's not the charger itself?
Yes.
The port doesn't even appear physically damaged, so I don't know why it's doing this.
By the way, if I do send it back with they test the water activated dot to see if it wasn't bleached? I had to bleach the battery dot because I had it over a steamy sink and even though it didn't really get water damaged, the dot turned red. AND NO the battery was not in the phone, I removed it for whatever reason. But a $20 battery and a free replacement port is worth it over no new battery and a $600 brick that Samsung labeled water-damaged.

This is not common for Samsung products. You have a fluke. It happens.
If you don't have an unlimited plan still I would switch to whatever carrier has the best coverage in your area. A.s for Samsung phones, I've been using them since I was a kid and NEVER had problems with them.
I know this probably seems stupid but I ruined my Iphone (thank god it's gone) by leaving it in my bathroom after a shower. It wouldn't charge and the speakers stopped working. You'd be surprised at what steam can do lol but I doubt they would "test" your phone for bleach, they probably just take a quick glance to make sure it's white, let it air out for a night if the sticker smells like bleach and send it in.
Surprisingly once it dries, it just smells like battery chemicals... obviously due to the battery.
All carriers have good coverage in my area, I've only used AT&T because I was raised on it and really haven't had anywhere I don't get service.
Honestly, I'll probably interview some Sprint people and go over to their unlimited everything plan if they have good enough coverage (but I don't think they do).
Aww cute my friend with an unlimited 4G plan has no 4G coverage anywhere he goes to ever. Stupid Sprint. Good phones... and... that's it.
ATT on the other hand, solid 4G for most of my state. Hell, I was in the middle of a huge state park yesterday and I had perfect reception.
Dunno bout verizon, they don't have a data coverage map.

Ya I was raised on it too, when I lose my unlimited plan is the day I switch to verizon. And in my area Sprint is pretty decent.
Be careful at the stores, they will tell you anything to get you to sign your soul away for two years. when I went to buy my Infuse, the guy tried to tell me that the HSPA or whatever it is worked just as well as LTE on verizon, lol really?
Generally T-Mobile and Verizon reps seem to be the biggest douchebags. AT&T people are relatively nice and so are Sprint. But I don't care as long as I'm not looking to switch.
So what do I do with my Infuse? It's going to stop working completely soon. AT&T or straight to Samsung?

If you got it at AT&T I would take it there, IMO Samsung would probly take longer
If you bought your phone new, take it back to where ever you bought it ATT I know covers there phone for the 1st yeah. There are repair centers that you can go into and if they cant see an easy fix there they will same day swap it out, and you leave with a bright shiny new one
I just did!
Alright, I'll wait for it to get bad enough where I can't actually charge it effectively and bring it in, it's declining quickly.
I had this problem to a more serious extent, and i think something about the geometry of the phone's form factor causes the cable to break. Maybe your problem is different, but my phone tore through both the charger that came with it and an hp touchpad microusb charger, the latter lasted less than a couple hours. I am now using an lg xenon wall charger, which, unlike the others, is not a usb sync with an adapter.
Wish i could help, just charge with the device face down and be gentle.
Best of luck,
Gtridr.
I prefer to be right, so correct me if i'm wrong
Derpin on my infuse!
Dude... stop creeping me out.. I was using a xenon wall charger, too.
Any trouble connecting to the pc?
Well only when I'm touching it..
Sorry to bring up such an old thread.
My GF Infuse recently stopped charging out of no where.
She brought it into ATT and they noted that the charging port is corroded...warranty now voided. WTF. The phone has never been in contact with any water or sat in a steamy room.
Quite pathetic.
I have been trying for 3 weeks to get a replacement for my phone since the GPS doesn't lock or loses signal every 2 minutes while driving (I need gps for my job). And now data has been cutting out every so often even in great service areas.
So 3 weeks ago I went to a local store to get the phone replaced thinking I had 14 days from when I received the phone. Nope they tell me its when they shipped it, never mind that it took 6 days for the phone to arrive. The store tried to replace the phone with a new one anyway after I told them how long it took to ship but said they would have to knock me off unlimited to do so and there is no stock refurbs available so come back in a week.
Later I call customer service and get the same answer and they tell they will call me back. After calling in 3 times with no returned calls, the 4th guy finally called me back today, but said there is no white ones in stock do I want a blue. I tell him no and he says wait until next week for him to call me back.
something seems wrong with this.... is there any recourse? Can I escalate the case somewhere?! Doesn't seem like most people have an issue getting a replacement. what's going on

They're just being assholes to you.
Have you contacted Samsung to see what they can offer you?
I got the same story regarding the 14 days from "date of shipment" when I asked for a replacement. When I pressed further (I was seriously considering ATT at this point) he came back and said the "system" allowed me to get a new one - whatever that means.
At least you found a rep that agreed to get you a new one. Hopefully it only takes a week - make sure they note their agreement to get you a replacement in the notes. They will honor promises made in the notes by a previous rep.
It kinda sounds like you gave them the impression that you did something wrong to it and that you need to buy another replacement. If it doesn't work correctly, they just mail you a replacement as long as you're in the warranty period which is a year I think. I was six months into a phone, had similar issues as you, went to vzw store, they confirmed and shipped me a replacement the next day. Why the heck are they even bringing up your data plan/contract? That has nothing to do with a replacement phone at all. Almost sounds like they're trying to 14 day "swap" rather than warranty "replace".

So I'm still rocking the Galaxy S3 with unlimited data on Big Red. My contract was up about a month ago and the are 3 other lines on my account (4 smartphones total). The 3 other smartphones DO NOT have eligible upgrades, only mine does and those phones are on a 2 GB per month data plan.
I have looked into different loopholes to keep unlimited data and get a new phone and as of right now I only know of two options: 1) Buy the phone at the regular, off contract price and 2) Some people have had luck purchasing the phone through Best Buy and keeping their unlimited data plan.
Here is my question on another option I am thinking might work....?
One of the smartphones belongs to my wife. Transfer my upgrade to her and let her purchase the new phone under her phone #. One she receives the phone, she uses it for a short period of time (1 day, 1 week, ever?) and then I just factory reset that phone and call in and register activate it under my phone number and put her phone back on hers. I don't see how it would be very different than me buying a phone from someone on a site like Swappa and activating it as my own.
Does anyone know if this is possible or if this scenario will work?
Not really a question, more of a statement....
So, my Pixel arrived today from Verizon.... Cool, lots to play with before I am basically locked up away from home the next two days.
Open the box, nice phone, start it up, did a factory refresh (do this every time now for all new phones), and then inserted the SIM and started it up again...
The Phone Activation for the phone doesn't work. Thought at first, it was due to low signal, it not very strong where I live but never been a problem before... still nothing.
Call the 800 number it shows... talk to the rep and there is something weird, the IMEI and ICCID numbers are not in their database... how that happen?
Rep finally says I can take the phone in to a store and they will fix it (Can't do that today) or they can fill out paperwork to get it corrected. 12-24 hours.
Hmmm.... really no choice as I will have no access at all tomorrow and friday so I have to wait.
Hard to fathom that a phone from Verizon shipped to me from them is not properly setup in their database. Still using my Nexus 5X for phone but have the Pixel all setup ready to go when it activates. Just can't use it as a phone yet.
Finally, it activated. BTW, really like the phone a lot.
Well this turned out to be just a waste of time.
A day or two later the phone would only get 1xRTT and no celluar data. No calls in, no calls out... This was the day before Xmas. So the day after they had one on hold for me since stores were running out of stock. I went into the store they insisted I change the SIM card first and it seemed to work,
But when I got home it started to do the same thing. Other phones didn't have any issues there.
Naturally, the phone on hold was now gone. Told they would ship out a replacement... Nothing... checked almost daily and they said they were waiting for phones.
This morning, I was told it would not ship until the 20th of this month which would be almost a full month since I got the phone.
I canceled the order.
