A few hours ago, Firmware Finder received .150 firmware update for C185 models. I personally downloaded it even though there was no change log and updated using Hurupdater. I had noticed no changes at a first glance but then i moved to settings to confirm that the phone had updated. It said GPU Turbo below my version number. I decided to check out a graphically intensive game I play called 'Honkai Impact 3rd' on max graphics and 60fps which would heat down the phone within a few missions and there would also be quite a few stutters when alot of special effects would be going on at the same time before. I can confirm that since the update that the stutters have been reduced but most importantly, the phone hasn't been heating up as much in game after an hour of playtime. Battery life has been noticeably better too as there is less drain for sure. This is just my experience, can't wait for everyone else to get it as well, so I can know what is happening (whether GPU Turbo is actually on or not). For now though, I'll be testing more games to see how the phone is doing but I'm liking this so far.

In China, there have been a lot reports of the phone getting even hotter, the battery draining faster and the camera being more sensitive to flaring (esp. in night mode). I'm curious if people here will confirm or if these bugs have been fixed in the meantime. Personally, I think I won't update to .150 when it's out, better to wait a few weeks =)

From my experience (which is less than a full day) the phone doesn't get as hot as it normally did before the update unless I play extensively for about an hour straight. Any less and I've been seeing good heat management so far. Of course I'm still in the early stages of testing and cannot comment further until 3-4 days of testing.

So battery life definitely seems better when i was playing my regular games., I'll need some time before I can comment on regular use. I'll try updating the thread after a few days of testing.

Still waiting 130 update for C432 model of p20 pro.
Funny how some areas gets updates so much faster although same phone model.
What about normal apps specially Google photos. Is it any smoother with no lag or stutters ??
Hi, please check the slo-mo 960fps recording.... Any improvements in the alleged artifacts during 32x slow videos? Huawei is using framerate interpolation for it which throws in visible artifacts during close up slow motion...

For everyone interested to know benchmark results, to my disappointment, results on Antutu, Geekbench and 3d mark remain very similar to those prior to the update. Which is very strange indeed as I'm definitely noticing an improvement in battery life, device heat management and fps slightly whilst gaming. It is possible that im running a test build and have not been running a full taste of Gpu Turbo, and it's also possible that Huawei's claim of 'Gpu Turbo' just means much better device thermal manamagement for more consistent FPS and battery life. Lastly, it is also possible thst Gpu turbo isn't even on since this is a test build and it's just that they've tweaked device performance and improved battery life compared to the previous version I was on (. 130). Thus I cannot judge fully and I'm waiting on an update to prove me wrong. I check firmware finder everyday and love testing new things. Although if what I'm experiencing is actually gpu turbo then I do not mind as at the very least, I see some improvement in battery life.

Scrolling has been super smooth. Google photos has been super snappy. The only app I see causing any scroll lag at this time is Twitter and that I'd blame the app itself rather than Huawei. I think it's definitely more fluid than the previous version of the software I was on but it is not heavily noticeable as both were very smooth for the most part.

I took this opportunity to compare the slow mo performance to my Mom's S9+. I believe the artifacts are still present as I see lines and weird effects popping up randomly which I do not see on the S9+.
Gpu turbo is only for games so you won't notice any improvement other that in gaming, that's why there is an special application tor that "game suite" that you can enable the acceleration.
I'm running b150 for a few days and so far the phone is better from before in term of small tweaks here and there and i noticed the front camera is better now,not perfect but very usable.
The battery has improved a little but but it was very good before too.
I had read that the antutu would be similar to snapdragon 845. I guess it was just a lie.

Oh thanks for the info, I actually didn't notice this and yes I see games running much nicer with the setting turned on. However, they also heat up the phone quicker and drain alot of battery life. Should you choose to turn the option off however, you notice the same games don't drain as much battery life anymore and the phone doesn't heat up as much and the battery life is noticeably better than before the update.

I don't play intensive games just clash royal,i have the acceleration turned off, didn't test much of it but the battery seems better not sure about the heat tho.
This is my battery life this day,all day 4g and most of the time outside.

That's pretty good considering you're gaming. I'm definitely getting atleast 7-8 hours of sot when I'm not going all out and about 5-6 on maxed out heavy gaming for most of the day. Even with the Gaming Optimization turned on the phone doesn't heat up alot as long as you're in a well ventilated environment. Im not much of a heavy gamer myself but definitely see better fps on Csr Racing 2 (used to lag a bit in the garage) and Honkai Impact 3rd with optimization in gaming suite on. Honkai is definitely giving me 60 fps in 90% of the scenarios so the lag is barely noticeable unlike before. As for benchmarks, unfortunately you cannot add benchmark related apps to the game optimize feature so the GPU turbo can't be turned on for them. Strangely enough, every other app (even regular apps) can be optimized.

Im tempted to try it but hesitant too.
It'll increase the overall performance of the phone, at the cost of a little bit battery life, since turning off thermal mitigation allows the cpu to clock at a higher speed more often while ignoring the heat.
I cant decide if its worth it. For the most part I dont have any complaints about the brightness but I also use Lux.
While it was a different phone I did this same thing with my LG G Pro with no adverse effects to the phones operation in just over a year. It is still going strong in fact, so I dont fear phone damage by doing this but on this phone I havent seen the need for it yet.
I've been using this setting for some time now. I see no decrease in battery life, indeed I've seen nothing negative from it.

I've had both thermal settings off for a while now as well, it only powered down from heat once and that was because I was chrome casting Netflix and playing a intensive 3d game. Other than that it's fine, however I would expect it to get hot doing 2 large processes anyway. Battery life is still 4-5hiues SOT

So I finally decided to root my G Flex 2. I've been talking about disabling cores for a while. Thought it may help the thermal throttling issues. Once I rooted the device I downloaded "Multicore CPU" and started disabling cores in a couple different combos. I've finally settled on disabling cores 4 and 7. Since I disabled the two cores heat has not been an issue and cores 5 and 6 are running at 2ghz. Reduced lag, and benchmarks have shot up some. Personally enjoying the lagless environment. Figured I'd post my experience with this. I'm hoping overall battery life will be better as well. Won't know for a day or two though. Oh and it stays cool while charging and in use. It used to get really hot before.
Anyone else have any experience with this?

My core 4 and 7 were already disabled but still very laggy... And it heats up really bad...
When do you get this overheating issues? My flex just gets warm using Chrome so i use the lg Browser now. And whats your Firmware? Still stuck in c with all Cores enabled

My software is 10e. It heats up during YouTube, Chrome and is warmer in general then my previous phones. And its still heavy laggy...

4 and 7 are not active unless 5 and 6 are under heavy load I believe. I've just made it so they never turn on.
I'm also using software ls996zv5

Ok on YouTube mine gets a bit warm but not as hot as in Chrome (on normal sites, nothing fancy). Watched twitch in Full hd for an Hour yesterday without any heat...seems like some Apps are better optimised for the sd810 than others
Are we getting a sd808 by disabling 2 Cores?

It looks like SD810 is a peace of crap. The Flex 2 compared to my Oneplus One is like an Opel / Vauxhall Astra compared to an BMW X6.. Very disappointed..

Ok getting a lil bit off-topic here ...i am Happy with the Phone so far, way faster than my old razr i Think Updates will make this Baby Fly (even more)

I am also coming from oneplus, I must say you are sadly right. Newer is not necessary better in this case.
I hope with some optimalization this can be a Ferrari.
I was already let down by LG a few years before, let's hope it is not the case now.

I have the AT&T version of this phone and for me cores 4,5,6 and 7 are always on except when the cpu goes above 36C then cores 4 and 7 automatically get disabled. I'm also not experiencing any lag and it's actually very smooth and fast. It also doesn't get very hot unless I run Antutu benchmark like three times in a row. What kind of CPU temperatures are you guys seeing when your phone gets hot?

I also have the at&t version. There isn't much lag, but it gets pretty hot. Where do I check CPU temp?

You can download Cpu Temp from the play store or I also see it in kernel apps like Trickster MOD.
My galaxy S4 used to get warmer then this phone when watching Youtube or browsing in Chrome.

Runs at 44C after playing games for a few minutes.

The highest i've seen is 47C and it does make the phone feel warm but not any warmer than my Galaxy S4 used to get.

My phone is around 40C when playing games or browsing the Web.
With another firmware wersion I was getting temperatures around 48C. That was Killin the battery in minutes.
This is what I deal with when all 4 cores are running
im thinking of buying this or note 4 i have an s5 right now. does rooting debloat and fixing the thermal settings fix the lag and overheating?or is there anything else that will. im a heavy user play switch in between games alot and depend on a decent battery life and dont like lag.

By the way, i got it rooted.
I just got my Flex 2 and after debloating and tuning the thermal configuration I'm really enjoying it! Performs great.

Debloat and thermal settings has turned my phone into a powerhouse. On an average day, I see no more battery drain on the Flex 2 than I did on the original Flex (with a bigger battery and a smaller number of cores). However, if you're heavily into gaming, the GPU will certainly be enough, but for 3D intensive games the battery drains rather quickly (as expected, really).
I have compiled a list of everything I've removed for debloating here.
So no issues with overheating? I switch between games like madden , clash of clans, boom beach, magic rampage, and outwitters constantly so I was worried about the heating issue for a heavy user such as myself

The thermal throttling settings are still enabled, just set to a higher temperature. I have mine set to 65°C (as per the thermal throttling thread), and I know processors can get much hotter than that without failing (Apparently the HTC flagship cores get up to 80°C, don't while me on this, it's just a passive memory).
### Shield app optimization tutorial
Shield app optimization = BS!
Just tested the Shield **app optimization** with the benchmark 3Dmark and I can tell you no matter the setting the performance is bad. Universally bad!!
### My advice:
forget about the Shield **app optimization**. Turn it off. Never look back.
Instead, manage the apps/tablet performance with the **Processor Mode** under Shield Power Control.
For gaming **Optimized** or **Max** are great. For anything else My **Power Mode** 2 CPU cores are just fine; it safes some battery power.
How to safe more battery: deactivate **Adaptive brightness** under Display. Because no matter the ambient lighting, it's always too bright. Hence, better set it manually.
You're on point mate.. I just tried testing my K1 with the setting off and it seems to have worked beautifully. Before it'd stutter in apps and in between, now after trying this for more than a few hours I've had almost no stutters or lag AFAIK.

You know, I couldn't find any explanation of what the difference between **Optimized** and **Max** are, and I assumed **app optimization** is the very same thing just apps specific, so began benchmark testing it all. To my surprise **app optimization** does no good but just slows everything down; no matter the settings! I was sure not everybody knowns about that. And instead just complains about bad performance or quick battery drain.
Conclusion: the difference between **Optimized** and **Max** are marginal. **Max** may give you a few more fps whereas **Optimized** scores a tiny bit higher in the overall performance.
By the by, I played Asphalt 8 with only 2 cores and it still runs absolutely smooth.

I dusted off my xda account to let you know that this latest software is great... Battery life finally doesn't drain when not used. (battery drain while not used drives me crazy, wife has iPhone... Always in use, it lasts forever)
Anyway Im the guy that never have problems, not many apps. No smart watch connected. Not rooted, not gamer, no cloud.
My battery used to drain like 15% overnight. Not anymore. It barely uses 40% a day.. Before it was about 75%.
I'm planning to freeze my software update app. Bc whatever they did is working great.
My device is more than 12 mo old, and i use the 85% charge limit (slowest possible charge). Unlocked US model directly from Samsung.

My phone is slower than my previus Op7Pro, battery drain is huge and it's always hot. I have it from July 21 but this summer the phone has been unusable under the sun or on the beach because of the huge thermal throttling. I had to splash in the swimming pool while taking photos of my children because it was very hot and went in thermal protection.
Battery life is terrible too, I've to charge at least twice a day even without using it.
Do you think is something that can be solved by the Samsung support?

Turn off global power management, find the battery/bandwidth hogs and deal with each on a case by case basis ie optimize it. All Samsung's should be optimized for best performance.
Package Disabler is something I always use but it's not my only tactic.
Since the N10+ Samsung has lost its balance.
That said my now cool running snappy fast N10+ was once a stuttering, hot running battery/bandwidth hungry hog. It doesn't seem like the same device now, it runs like a bat out of hell. Been running like this for 2 years on the same load. All you can do is try to optimize it.
Samsung Tech support? Bah-ha-ha-ha, don't count on it. Rarely are they helpful, but occasionally you get lucky. Updates tend to break not fix things... think before you click and disable all auto updates especially firmware.

About the power governor I'm using the mid option named High ( I have Optimized - High - Maximum) but I've tried the other two options and wait I've seen is bad performance (no increase in battery life) or increase of the phone temperatures with no real benefit in the daily use.
I'm hating this phone, I'm thinking to change asap, I'm waiting for the Pixels, hoping Google is able to manage the thermal issues better than Samsung.
About the support I don't mean the one by the phone, I know it's useless , I would mean if my thermal and battery problems can be related to some hardware issues.

It's in Device Care under battery. Individual app battery background settings don't invoke global power management so you can do that instead.
That's just the start. You probably need to use a package disabler or adb edits to disable about 70-80 bloatware apps.
This is how on my N10+'s its configured.
Unlike latter Samsung flagships the N10+ is a well balanced phone in terms of form factor, usability, functionality and power consumption.
It supports expandable storage up to 1tb.
It seems that disabling the global power management the slug mode has been disabled too. I need to check it in the next days if the situation stays like this or not. In any case I still need to block the bloatware.
