So, I got my Bionic yesterday and, to be honest, I miss my Thunderbolt. As much as I love HTC phones, I've always thought Moto had better build quality. That is not the case with this phone. It doesn't feel as well made as my OG Droid, Droid X, or Thunderbolt. It is a snappy little device, but I miss the Sense UI and it's easy Facebook integration. So, now I'm just waiting on the Vigor or Prime in the next few months and I'll be out of the Bionic.

I wonder how many people feel like you do?
I have never seen a better example of "The grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence" than when it comes to people and phones.
I have always been shocked at how many times some people on here swap phones and get them off contract at full price or add lines just to have a newer phone.
I'm mostly just grateful I don't have a Blackberry running a crippled OS like BBOS 4 or 5 anymore. Compared to that, even having a older phone like the Incredible or Moto Droid 1 would be preferable.
The overall return on satisfaction from swapping a pretty new Android phone to a slightly newer Android phone just doesn't seem as long lasting as a big leap like going from a Blackberry to Android to me.
Bionic is fast. Really fast. This does not make up for:
Cheap feel.
Kiddy look with painted on buttons.
Mesh pattern on screen. It is BAD.
Meh battery. I didn't see much improvement.
Locked bootloader.
Horrible software. It looks pretty but the functionality isnt there.
I had an X. I loved the build quality and the LED's and the intensity of the vibrate. All things which the Bolt lacks, minus the build quality. My old X is sitting in my desk drawer and I don't miss it.
I think the UI has a lot to do with how I feel. I've learned to live without LED's. I had the moto A630 about 4 or 5yrs back. I loved that phone, too. I'm HTC, from here on out though.

Couldn't agree more. After being an Atrix owner I'm over Motorola. The phone felt cheap as hell and the locked bootloader was annoying. Add that to the fact the qHD screen was very disappointing I chose to never buy Motorola again unless they put a device out that proves me wrong.
I'm sticking with the TBolt until the Prime hits VzW!

Exactly!! Luckily, I don't pay for cell phones or I'd be a little more upset than I am. I'm going to weigh my options between the Vigor and the Prime when they hit the market.

Absolutely agree. You listed exactly every issue I have had with this phone. Even the extended battery barely helps with heavy use on 3G. I must say other than the thinness, lightweight, and dual core speed this device has turned out to be a great dissappointment (incomparable to the Galaxy SII). Also, I no longer trust Motorola's UI due to it's lack of basic features such as seperate notifications for e-mail accounts and syncing only existing contacts with Facebook. If the ThunderBolt had a dual core CPU, even to this day I would call it the best device on Verizon (I'll deal with the extended battery if I have to). I'm definitely switching to the next flagship Verizon device. At this point, my only decision here is Samsung Galaxy Prime, HTC Rezound (Vigor), or the LG LU6200 (Revolution 2?).

Yeah, I dropped in a VZ store when I was at a mall last week. I messed around with all of the phones there, including the Bionic, and was very disappointed with them all. The Bionic is overall nice, but something is off with the screen. Despite it being newer, it seems to have poorer quality than a relatively mediocre TB screen. Especially up close.
Samsung has a good rep, and admittedly I am eyeing the Prime...However the Charge is just a POS. It feels like a kids toy in your hand and looks ridiculous.
I loved LG flip phones back in the day...but they are far behind in the smart phone arena. That's all there is to it.
For all of us who nervously bought the TB months ago instead of waiting for the Bionic...Looks like we made the right choice. I managed to drop mine in a lake and revive it, but the speakers are shot. So I am looking for an upgrade. Haven't seen anything worthwhile yet, hoping the Prime is decent. Supposedly it will have a metal frame, which I loved on the OG droid.
The bionic is nice... screen is lackluster but speeds are definately better. I am torn between better service or nicer screen. May send my bionic back, just not sure yet.

I wish I could use my ear buds with my t bolt. Either the audio jack was messed up out of the box or within a couple weeks of use the left side output stops working, all 6 have been like this. This is one of the reasons I want a new Motorola. The Bionic has the noise but at least it isn't a broken jack, I think it'll be fixed in a future firmware, or custom Rom.
All 6?

Not trying to be a **** here but why do you even post here anymore? It seems lately all you do is bash HTC or the Thunderbolt and love all over Motorola and the Bionic. You know there is a Bionic forum right?
Oh and for the record I'm still on my first TBolt and have had no hardware issues at all.
I've got a slightly bent patch cable in my car that will only work if turned in one way, otherwise the left side drops out. That's probably the issue.

I've argued with this guy a lot. I don't know how to explain his experience. I went to BlackBerry for a while because of Motorola devices. I literally couldn't replace them as fast as they broke.

Agreed. I've heard way too many people claim Motorola makes great devices with excellent build quality. Then explain the Atrix to me then for one. I owned that phone and it felt like a plastic POS toy my 4 year old would play with. Every HTC phone so far I've owned or played with felt sturdy and durable.

Because I have a t bolt and not a bionic, I haven't said anything about the bionic except that it seemed fast and smooth for the 10 I used one in the store and that I would prefer that over my t bolt. I do talk about how good Motorola phones have been for me in the past (several razr's, krazr's, ad an X) but nothing about a bionic because I haven't owned one and can't honestly give my opinion. I would be fine with the t bolt if I could just yr one without hardware issues. I used to rave about the t bolt (for 2 weeks) and a couple people bought them because I recommended them, they now have charges' after several faulty t bolts but I refuse to own a Samsung or LG, that's why I still have a t bolt

Ahh ok. Well anyways seems like you and your friends have bad luck though. I know a few people other than myself who are all on TBolt #1 and love it and have had no issues. One of them was a Charge owner who despised his battery life. It literally drained faster than I have ever seen a battery drain. This happened for the first 4 days he owned it with basically nothing installed (former BB owner wasn't used to Android yet). I'm sure there are defective bolts out there just like there are defective everything out there though. I personally think Motorola is overrated and won't purchase another product of theirs.
Well, the story goes like this. I ordered the One S originally for my contract upgrade but read some doom and gloom reviews regarding the screen so changed to the one X at no extra cost. I prefer the look and the materials used in the One S.
To my suprise, the One S still came. I asked Three if I could have a little play and they said it was fine as long as I didn't put the sim card in it.
The phone is absolutely stunning. It's razor thin design and solid build quality make it the most impressive phone I have handled to date. The MAO process used on the housing has a unique finish to it which is grippy as well as gorgeous, and makes the phone feel like it could survive thermo-nuclear war.
One of the reasons I changed to the One X was the chipping issue. I have been brave and actually (fairly gently) hit the edges of the phone against my class desk. Tapping it in such a hard surface I would have assumed would chip the phone if a defect was present, and it weathered it without any marks, luckily for me. I have heard chips start appearing after the first week of use though, so don't take my word as gospel when I say it hasn't affected this unit.
Another reason for me scrapping my One S dreams was the reviews of the screen. Several websites I trust said the screen was low quality and you could easily see individual pixels. Now this was personally my biggest turn off for the One S... I spend a lot of time browsing the web on my phone so even minor pixalation would piss me off, however I'm pleased to say the screen is stunning. The only trademarks of a pentile display I noticed was very very faint jagged edges on straight lines during screen animations, not a deal killer for me as text was wonderful.
Finally the performance of the One S has blown me away. It's dual-core snapdragon S4 is a brilliant CPU and coupled with the Adreno 220 GPU everything ran smooth like a hot knife through butter.
My conclusion? As an average user, ignore the doom and gloom about the screen. There are some incredibly minor jagged edges on transition efects but apart from that I loved it. Battery life seems to be impressive too, I have had it since 10 AM this morning and it is midnight now and is on 30% charge, and I've been using this phone a lot, however without any sort of 3g radio turned on, only WiFi. If you love the look of this phone, buy it. It feels amazing.

I really don't think it is. Maybe next year.
NFC is useful. But not much implemented. I won't miss it the next 2-3 years I imagine. Nothing to ***** about imho.
I've had my MOA S since Friday afternoon, and I'm very satisfied with it so far. I have to agree with most observations in this review. It's spot on!
As for chipping, I've not noticed any on my device yet, apart from a little around (more like inside) the usb port. But then I have not taken much care when plugging in either, so I'm not surprised it has a little worn look there.
It feels secure and good to the grip, and the screen is perfectly adequate for a phone. I'm not using this device as a replacement for my HD TV-set or for image manipulation
Two things I would have wished for as a personal preference is bigger battery (even at a cost of a couple of millimeters thicker body and more weight) and a smaller screen. 4" had been enough with this hardware to be a great phone
I don't see NFC as a big part of technology in 2012. Maybe after the premier handsets have it and then it starts rolling out, that will be when I care if a phone has NFC or not. I certainly don't mind at all that the HTC One S isn't a pioneer in NFC technology.

To be fair, have you even been able to use NFC for anything productive?
I have been using a Bold 9900 for the last 5 months and the ONLY thing I have used NFC for is getting a free cadburys cream egg from a promotional stand at a bus stop in reading.
And in the UK you can only use NFC for payments under £15, which in my case is usually just a drink or lunch, both of which I would usually pay for in loose change, not with my card, so NFC is, in my opinion, an entirely worthless feature in 2012.
It could be great, but currently it has no use and I don't see why any phone ships with it currently apart from to entice businesses into finding more uses for it as the user base grows.
For the screen, the pixel is visible if the text is written in white. ( under the icon.
It is less visible in the browser as the text is in black.
I ve put my desire s in front of the one s and the desire s screen is sharper.
The one s could have been the best device with an hd screen to me.
I just think when u are buying a new and nice device, its nice to have it future proof considering most top of the line phones do have nfc....galaxy nexus, one x, Sony phones, and gs3 will most likely have it too.
nfc is not just for payments. tags are pretty cool and useful.
I don't have nfc and never used it, but sure wouldn't mind trying it out

The One S is not a top of the line phone, it's a mid end device. Bare that in mind when you talk about future proofing. Most people on these forums will update their phones once a year or so, I personally upgrade every 6 months sometimes. NFC will not be big this year, nor probably next. It's not something that has started trending yet, and when it does I suspect it will explode and then die out again, because it's really not as useful as people like to make out.
So yeah, most top end phones have it now, but this is not a top end phone. And our countries like to future proof their nuclear defenses, but it's not like anyone is going to fire a nuke at us any time soon. Same goes with NFC...
P.S, I went for the One X in the end
I see NFC more useful with tags rather then its easy payment feature.
maybe its not what i actually think it is and using Tasker is just as convenient if not better. But it sure nice to have automated tasks, i use this feature ALOT
Isn't nfc just asking for trouble security loopholes'

Hmm I do not really agree.
First point: The One S is maybe promoted by HTC as the mid end device but this for sure only is for them. It is faster than any other smartphone (even the high class One X) and when you compare it to other producers devices, the One S has to be compared to the power horses of those (and beats them)..
Second: nfc doesn't has to be big to be useful. You are right that it needs to be spread for some fancy and useful services like payment or I dunno but actually people owning the new Sonys are playing around with the tags a lot and producing interesting ideas. For example: tags placed at your appartements entrance that tell your phone how to behave (sound profile, wifi, alerts, tasks etc..) if you pass it, depending on leaving (profile 1) or entering (profile 2).
I agree that it's not a must have for me, but certainly a nice to have and it would've been realistic to implement it in the One S or at least the X, which is the top class and doesn't have it either.
^ One X does have NFC

This is how I look at it....out of Built quality (theoretically goes to S), Screen quality, NFC, SD-Card slot, and Removable battery, I would choose like this:
1. Screen quality
2. Built quality
3. NFC
4 and 5. SD Card and Removable battery < this is just something I never care about

Life proof cases? First and foremost, this phone costs roughly $700. The life proof cases cost a fraction and you trust them? So yeah... a moot point.
This isn't meant to be a party trick, its a pre-emptive protection. You're not supposed to dip it in water just for laughs. Even liquipel tells you not to use it as a bar trick.
Yeah, this solution does not apply to everyone. I myself found that I hardly need to use any of the ports. I'm still using a dedicated mp3 player so there's that.

Nice. If you have dual band wifi at home, the 5ghz would work wonders for your wireless file transfers.
Obviously life proof case gonna be much better than your so called "condom".
If it is mere a preemptive protection but not really "waterproof", I suggest you buy a condom directly. It is a joke to pay $5 for a leak "condom". I can give you half dozen.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Some people just aren't that progressive. The condom was an analogy. Look it up in the dictionary. A-N-A-L-O-G-Y.
This is an alternative. You can waterproof your cases with minimal bulk.
I think this case is meant to be a one time thing like a condom not being an actual condom.
For its price is not bad to pick up a few for the summer just in case you have plans to maybe get drunk at a pool party where it would come in handy.
The only thing about one time use is that like a condom, you're going to forget it when you need it.
Not bashing. I actually may pick up one. Never been the person who "needs" a life proof case but if i can get a really slim one I may start rolling around in puddles just because i can.

Well, I'm coming from a G4 and even though I miss a bit the LG UI I can't say the OP6 isn't a good phone. It's a beast, RAM keeps apps open for so long that you will even forget that you opened them recently. Front camera is a huge step forward, massive dynamic range and colours very close to the real. The rear camera is ok but the difference between the two is almost non existent. I'm guessing it's because of the OnePlus camera software that doesn't make the camera work at its best. The autofocus is nowhere near as precise as the G4 was, there is visible post processing noise in night photos and those tend to get a bit on the reddish side. However, the flash is bright as hell and the light balance is perfect. Something I loved to do with the G4 was shooting long exposure photos at night. With this phone the job becomes a tad harder, mostly due to the crappy autofocus. When you manage to get a stable picture with no motion noise and balanced focus the result is pretty amazing. I would say the step up isn't worth it if you have a G6, hold on for another year or wait for the next V series LG phone.

Take in count that I've decided to switch the G6 afte more than a year because of the crappy battery life (I mostly use the phone under mobile network) and the more crappy reception, add to this the lack of development and updates from LG and the fact that, apart from the second camera, the main camera got worse than G5 and G4 for no reasons. This is why I'll never buy another LG, and why I've decided to switch on OP6

Alright, understandable.
I had an overall positive experience with LG (my G4 died of saltwater damage -at the beach my umbrella flew off in the sea with the phone attached to it-) so I'm sorry for you.
Don't take my review as gold plated though, I got my OP6 just yesterday so mine is a 24 hours first impression review. The OP6 is a great step up in terms of battery life, I used it quite heavily (constant social networking multitasking, high camera usage, chatting on WhatsApp, Telegram and Discord -no games or video recording tho-) and it covered a full day of usage no problem. Also it charges so damn fast that I'm not even charging it overnight anymore, it will just disrupt the battery's lifespan. Reception is amazing, at the moment I'm at my holiday home near the sea in southern Italy, my mom's iPhone 7 for comparison rarely gets in 4G and tends to lose signal standing very near to the sea while the OP6 is always in 4G if not 4G+ occasionally. You get used to gestures quite easily, just the recent apps tab takes a little more to get used to. Also the phone comes with a dark greyish clear cover with smoked sides and a flawless installed glass screen protector (that tends to hold fingerprints tho). No earbuds are included. Audio quality is very loud but not the clearest sound you'll ever hear. Call quality is just fine to me. In-ear volume with earbuds seems quite low but I guess it's just the crappy headphones I'm using ATM, also if I won't be satisfied in the future I'm going to install ViPER4Android and some other audio mods as I did on the G4.

I'm a former G3 / G4 and G6 user. I switched to OP6 at day one. For me, the G6 seems a device that is years old and although It has an SD821, it turns out to have a slower and more heavy UI than my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.
All this without considering the lack of sofware support. So I will never buy an LG smartphone again. Bye bye LG!
I'm coming from a G3 running Fulmics ROM (basically made the phone into a G5 software + root) and the OP6 is miles faster in every way. Spec wise it beats the G6 as well, although it is a HUGE phone imo.
Camera isn't the best, and there are some who do not like the display or OOS, but I can live with all of it. My G3 died (kinda sorta) and I had to get a new device. This is one of the very few out there that you can modify without going through big hoops and it won't break the bank. I'm not writing off LG, but based on how the US unlocked G7 has still not received bootloader unlock, I'm not holding my breath that any LG product in the US will ever get it again. LG really screwed over the dev community past the G4. If they were smart, they'd go the route of HTC and allow people to buy the phone directly and fully unlocked. Oh well.

Yeah, thought the same, I'm with LG since G2 and it's time to change, and never come back

LG is continuously making wrong and stupid decisions based on nothing, well, they'll keep going without me LOL.
I recently heard of the V35S arrival
And OF COURSE IT WONT BE SOLD IN EUROPE
What's the point of it? I don't understand!
The V30 for me was the perfect phone, only reason I discarded it was the front camera.
AND NOW THAT THEY UPGRADED IT OF COURSE ITS NOT COMING TO EUROPE
I won't change my phone till I finish high school (3 more grades to go, so 3 years) so this is something I shouldn't really bother about as my OP6 is brand new and I'm getting more and more satisfied with it, but I'm almost giving away all the trust in LG.
The features they pack (flat display on G6, wide angle, quality DAC and stereo audio on G7) are really all I wish on a phone, but the marketing decisions they make are absolute crap.

You're european? If yes, could you test with a GPS Test app if Galileo is supported from Op6? Thanks
PS: Nothing new for LG, ****ty choices for a ****ty OEM

I downloaded this app, GPS test, probably the very first on the search list in the play store.
Here it seems that Galileo is supported because my device is marked with a pentagon
Roaming around Reddit seems that Galileo support has already started from the OP5T
I'm not into GPS devices, what benefits do I get from having Galileo support?

Well then I wouldn't really mind his lack anyways.
I mean, to reach the post office that had my OP6 package I used my dad's Samsung Galaxy J5 2015 and the GPS worked like a charm. The output lag was noticeable only at very high speeds (over 100 km/h).
Yes! Seriously disappointed in the g6 although I'm probably switching to the 6T as being 15 makes getting money a little more difficult due to only working on weekends but the GYM gave me horrible battery life at about 4 hours SoT on average or worse.
Also noticed some burn in on my G6 which is very disappointing. Hopefully the 6T can last me at least 2 years until Uni as I really can't afford to pay any more money towards a phone.

Waiting for the next OnePlus phone doesn't make much sense as they come out every 6 months and there's still about 4 months more to wait. This one has everything you need (I'm 16 as well and I'm in your same situation), don't expect the camera modules or the design to develop any further for now because the sensors on the OP6 are already a step up from the past two generations. All you can hope for imo is the useless wireless charging, some fancy new colorway and if you're lucky better audio quality (the bottom speaker remained unchanged from the OP5) . Also it will cost more as well, personally I wouldn't pay 600+ € for a OnePlus phone.
---------- Post added at 09:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:31 AM ----------
All the OP6 needs is a camera software update (this one doesn't really make the sensors shine as they could) and some audio fixes that you can already get through modding. Nothing else imo.

I was following your same way of thinking from the OP5 (at the time I didn't had to change my phone though) and I insta discarded both the OP5 and the OP5T just for the OIS lack. As far as I saw that the OP6 had it I already knew I was going to get it.

I mean honestly that's all I need, currently don't have enough money to buy the op6 but I will for the op6t and I just want the newest rendition.
The photo taking capability of the Pixels is one of the biggest features. 3a has a slower cpu and (unconfirmed?) lack of Pixel Visual Core.
Did anyone compared a reallife photo processing speed between 3 and 3a? How long the 3a takes to save a photo, in the night mode especially?
Is it just a matter of process speed or will the 3 and 3xl produce superior photos compared to the 3a series?
When I was playing with a 3a XL at Best Buy, it seemed to take 3-4 seconds to process a picture - including night mode. If I took a picture and immediately opened it in the gallery, I would see the progress circle moving to completion. I don't have access to a 3 or 3xl to compare it to, but I suspect it is near immediate processing with the pixel visual core. I should also note that the camera is available to take more pictures immediately - you don't need to wait for the image to be processed before taking another picture.
So while there is a small delay processing pictures with the 3a or 3a XL, it is neither annoyingly long, nor does it prevent normal usage of the phone/camera. Honestly it will hardly be noticeable in normal operation IMHO.

It's my understanding that it is simply a difference in processing speed. The pictures with the rear camera are identical to the 3 series.
Of course the front facing selfie camera is different from the original 3 series, so the images from the 3a front camera are slightly different (or at least harder to compare) from the original, but the photo quality is nearly identical with the front camera too.

I did have the 3a for a few hours last week but ended up sending it back. The phone felt very cheap in my hands, camera was marginally better than my s9. All in all i felt the phone was from 2014 with a 2019 camera

Really? You thought it felt cheap? I don't get that impression at all. Feels nice to me. I don't like my phone's to be made of metal and glass. Plastic feels nice.

Let's not forget the fact that because the back isn't glass, you don't need a super bulky case to protect it.
When people say it feels cheap I respect their opinion but I personally think that it doesn't feel cheap at all, not even close. It actually feels really nice. Out of all the items that are made of plastic that I've used before, this is really good plastic. It's not low-quality plastic, this kind of plastic is beautifully smooth and you can tell it's very good quality.
I mean let's be fair here, not all plastics are created equal.
Some people put the 3a down because it doesn't have the best glass body/metal, a slower Snapdragon, no water resistance, etc.
However, If you want all those features on a brand NEW phone for $400 dollars then you live in a dreamland and need a reality check.
If you want all those features then go ahead and shell out the cash for a Pixel 3, or whatever else is in the market. It's not the 3a's fault.
The 3a is not the best phone out there, it's not trying to be. The amazing camera, screen, performance, quality, and the vanilla Google experience is great value for its price.
This phone is a very good phone for what it is. I'm personally very happy with my purchase, and I haven't been this excited about a phone in a long time.

It wasnt so much that though, the phone looked really nice and felt light and felt nostalgic holding a phone without glass and metal. But i was buying it to replace my s9+ so I was comparing it on that in which case obviously the s9+ will win. But it seemed to me they made too many cut backs. Audio quality sounded average. I checked in call speaker and too much sound leaked out. I also had some glitches whenever i clicked battery settings the settings app would force close. Also the snapdragin 660. I get it mid range and all that. But the fact is the 660 came out mid 2018 since then weve had the 670 and the newer 2019 710. So my 2 cents were if google want to make a mid range phone in 2019, then use mid range 2019 hardware and not give people a year out of date phone already. Its £400 in the UK and $400 dollars in the US. Makes no sense. If that phone was £250-300 I would have nothing to moan about. However for 400 you can get many top ranged phones 2nd hand.

You do know this phone comes with a snapdragon 670, correct?
Also, people keep complaining that they want a cheaper Google phone. Them one comes out they complain that it costs too much. This would have been the case if it cost $250. It would have been, "yeah it's nice but for $250??? I would have loved to see it cost $75 with all the corners they cut."
I'm enjoying this device immensely so far. Checks a ton of boxes for me. I use it to check email, make calls and limited social media. I am not a heavy gamer. Apps load quickly, battery lasts me through almost 2 days, screen looks beautiful, I thought sound was ok out of the box but it is worlds better after installing viper.
Good luck with your s9. I'm going to sit here and enjoy my 3a.

My bad 670. Oh well still a newer 710. Enjoy your phone. I may change my mind. Have to see how the development scene turns out. But with no lineage for pixel 3 or 2 series im not that optimistic.
I can say this about the processing speed, it processes night sight faster than the pixel 2xl and takes better pictures

99% of smartphones are released with outdated chipsets. There's ALWAYS a newer one. It takes time to develop and sell a phone based on the most up-to-date chipsets, which means by release time, the next one is coming out.

I prefer glass and metal but come on... 3a isn't cheap at all. It's a very beautiful phone.
