OnePlus 6 - Miracast confirmed working (and working very well!) - OnePlus 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Miracast is a very important feature to me. Just like all previous OnePlus phones, Miracast works on the 6.
I'm not sure if the SD845 made the difference, but casting video through YouTube seems much smoother than on the OP5. I cast a 4k Sony demo video, and it was perfectly smooth. The video quality was nearly on par with using the YouTube app built into the TV.

Oneplus 6 Miracast DRM?
Turbo - are you able to Miracast Netflix to the big screen? Finding this out has been stopping me from purchase. If you have the time could you install DRM Info and post the results. Thanks

Problems with netflix and MHL adapter

So I recently bought an S3, along with a samsung MHL HDMI adapter. One of my intended uses for the phone was to watch netflix on my TV, since my laptop broke a few weeks ago.
Anyways, the MHL adapter seems to work great for everything.. EXCEPT netflix. Videos are horizontally letterboxed, looks like a square aspect ratio. And more importantly, subtitles do not show up. I watch a lot of foreign films so this is a deal-breaker. On the phone itself, everything looks perfect, widescreen and with subtitles, but somehow the MHL adapter messes everything up on the way to the TV.
I tried googling and I only found one solution, to disable hardware overlay in developer settings, but that didn't work for me.
Also, the video doesn't look very good at all, both the resolution and compression quality looks pretty ****. Is netflix not streaming in HD on android?
Does anyone know any fixes for these problems?

LG 3D ultraHD Blu-ray player with miracast & private sound mode

My LG BP730 3D UltraHD upscaling Bluray player has miracast and private sound features that may be useful for screen mirroring.
It works fine with my samsung galaxy S4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRSVyxyuO_M even for full HD videos

Are you still happy with this device (LG bp730)? I'm considering buying a 3d BluRay player with miracast support... have you tried any others? I'm especially curious as to how it compares with the much cheaper Toshiba BDX5400. I would also appreciate more details about strengths and weaknesses of the LG unit after having used it for a while.
I'm planning on using it with a Note 2 and an LG 65LM6200 3D TV... if you have a similar setup, can one magic remote work for both devices? I find that the menu & apps (amazon prime, youTube) on my LG TV are often sluggish, any improvement on the bluray player?
Thanks for the input..

sorry for the late reply, just saw your post. Was on a few weeks holiday in aug so didnt see your post. Came back to a gazillion emails in my account so might have missed the alerts from here.
I have update my amazon Uk review for this player. It works fine for bluray and 3d bluray on my LG smart TV. The private sound mode just works for bluray and not other stuff which was a disappointment. There are some firmware bugs, once as i was repeatedly trying to get the private sound mode to work for other stuff the device froze and i couldnt even eject the bluray. Even rebooting a couple of times didnt get the bluray to eject, but after a couple more times it did work fine.
Smart apps on any smart TV or smart bluray player are a joke. I have a smart sony TV, another smart LG tv and a smart sony bluray player and another smart LG bluray player. All their smart features are barely OK but really ****ty in comparison to any cheap android stick or android minipc. Android mini pc is much more versatile when plugged into a regular TV. In my youtube uploads I deliberately showed an android mini PC being used with an old cathode ray TV and now that old smart cathode ray TV with android minipc is smarter than any new smart TV. on the youtube upload the picture looks crap, but on the TV its not crap. Reason it looks crap on the upload is because the cathode ray TV is 420p and i shot it in a 1080p camera and uploaded to youtube in 1080p and hence the 480p TV shown on 1080p camera upload looks crap. Just mentioning this to show that android mini pc is a better buy if you just want smart features.
If you want miracast the netgear ptv3000 dongle is good (also shown on my uploads) and this miracast on this bluray is also good. I havent used the toshiba so cant comment about its quality. I have used miracast on sony TVs in shops and they work fine.

try to see is the problem is some interference. You can check yourself by sitting in various areas around the tv with clear line of sight between tv and the note with nothing in between, if the case on your note has metal then remove the case have you updated the tv firmware. try to link TV to internet via ethernet or powerline adapters instead of wifi. the tv connecting to wifi and miracast at same time might cause some interference. hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.. I was mostly interested in 3d bluray and miracast from a single device... a better / faster UI & apps would be nice, but I probably won't buy the lg since it sounds like it probably isn't that much better than my LG TV, but costs more than the toshiba.
:good:

[Q] 4k video on Note Pro 12.2

I downloaded a 4k video from youtube and copied to Note Pro 12.2. It seems that Note Pro 12.2 cannot handle 4k videos properly. I tried multiple players including MX player. The HW decoder does not work and SW decoder lags and skips frames. Any suggestion for good 4k player for Note Pro 12.2 or any work around?
because The Galaxy Note Pro comes with 2,560×1,440 display = 2K video
you can't watch 4k video on 2k display
It's a limitation of the exynos soc. The snapdragon 800 will play 4k content, and can even record in some cases.
But as noted, since 4k is well beyond the native resolution of the screen, I'm not too worried about it.

It is not true. I can watch 4k video on my 2k monitor The real reason is the processor for sure.
Also not concerned due to the very low occurance of 4k media. Im pretty sure others have 4k ciewing working on the exynos note 3 so check there maybe

Everyone realizes that it's physically impossible to see any difference between 1080p and 4k on any screen that's smaller than 60 inches?

Depends on your viewing distance. On a ten ench screen you could see the individual pixels of 1080p at about 8 inches. Too close for normal viewing really. 2k would be about 6 inches and 4k would be at 4 inches. Considering I can zoom anytime I need to and the screen is huge I doubt that I would ever need to hold it that close. The 12.2 is probably a bit farther on viewing distances but still held more than far enough away usually to not need 4k. Only advantage I would see would be art/graphic design.

LOL at 44 years old, I'm lucky if I can even see my fingerprint on my fingers from less than 18-inches away without my reading glasses let alone 8.
I realize people want the most out of their devices and all but surely there's a point of diminishing returns somewhere.
That said, there's something to be said for wanting to ensure a device is future proof. If for example one expects to be shooting videos in 4k and would like to know that the device can handle playback of said material natively then it's reasonable to be concerned with that. I'm not sure how it would all pan out with regards to storage requirements and transfer of large video files but it would be nice if the device did support it out of the box.
Certainly not a deal breaker for me since I still shoot 1080p from my DSLRs.

Im certainly not saying 4k would be bad or unappreciated. However with the sparsity of media in that format and the extra power required to push those extra pixels (both gpu and battery) im personally fine with 2k until these concerns are addressed. Im reasonably sure It can play back 4k video though.......btw what dslr's are you shooting with? I want to replace my camcorder with an interchangeable lense camera for shooting parkour videos. Different lenses for various effects, 1080p 60fps shooting for slow motion, and shallow dof are things I want to play with. Iv been looking at the panasonic g6 mirroless 4/3. Iv read great things about it and many people on personal view contemd that it looks better than a hacked gh2 and almost comparable to the gh3.

Try bs player and archos player with the free codec pack. Somewhere else on the forum a guy said that those both work for him. He even said he could play it on one side with multiwindow while on the browser in another.he was playing downloaded 4k videos btw. Another guy trying to play note 3 4k videos never had any success.

Currently using a D7100. Can't say I recommend it for video but that's not why I have it anyhow. The video stuff I just dabble with.

The real reason is that the needed codec has not been added to the framework!
I have seen phones like Sony Xperia L that the gpu has 1080p decoding power but I can't play 1080p videos with H/W decoder because of lacking the needed codec( VP8 ) .

This exact same problem exists on the Note 3. (Same hardware) It's the Exynos, it's too weak. 1.9gHz is simply not enough, no matter how many cores it has. Cores do not stack. You need at least 2.2gHz individual for 4K.
The N9005 with the same hardware as the P905 handles 4K without issue (As does the P905).
The N900 has, from the very first day, been officially known to be unable to handle 4K. The P900 has identical hardware, and can't handle it either. The Exynos is simply not powerful enough.
Not to mention the Mali GPU is a graphical bottleneck.
Convert the video to a lower resolution. You can use Handbrake for it, it's open source.
This is one of the reasons I refuse to buy an Exynos device.

Xiaomi note 10 video quality

Hello,
I've made a lot research on google concerning the quality of the video recording about this phone.
All of the vids that i saw on YT are laggy / choppy in 4k resolution. Especially when panning. This is really not smooth and hard to see.
I'm really interested to buy this phone for his pictures quality.
Could you tell me if you have the same problem with your phones ? Some says that it causes by the weak chipset in it ( snapdragon 730g ), it's just the limitation of the system.
Thanks a lot.

On 20.3.5 i can say 4k videos are not choppy or skipping but when panning the effect is more similar to tearing.
Better stay on 1080p for videos.

Unfortunately videos are extremely laggy / choppy, even at 1080p 30fps when EIS is turned on. Without it, it's shaky, so there's no good solution. I don't know the reason, but it's very annoying, since they sell it (and i bought it) as a camera phone.
I've already asked around in this topic, you can also find 3 video samples that were recorded at 1080p 30fps : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-10/help/laggy-videos-1080p-30fps-t4030027/amp/
I would say, it's a great phone, photo and video image quality is outsanding, but videos are laggy. Don't buy it if you are into video recording. Since updates are rare, i've lost my hope that Xiaomi would somehow solve this problem. (However: even the new Mi 10 and Mi 10 pro have stutters in their videos. They have flagship hardware, so it could be a software related issue, that could be solved through some update.)
I think the same, it might be software issue, so try recording google camera? Open camera?
EIS is horrible that's why phones like Mi 8 with OIS and no EIS destroys everything that followed, there's no workaround EIS frame drops, flickering, lags & stutters, if you need the best video stabilization on market you should go for Samsung's SuperSteady implementation

Looking for a nice budget tablet/2 in 1 with 1080p playback

My preference was the asus Chromebook detachable cm3 but I heard it doesn't get 1080p playback for movies
Was going to go for surface go 3, screen kinda looks cheap and low res.
Next Galaxy tab a8 but also no 1080p playback
Which one does?
Got around 2-300 to spend

Hi there,
In case of a Android Tab in this price range, I guess Lenovo Tab M10 is a nice option. I have used this device and its playback quality is awesome. It support 1080p playback and have stereo speakers too which are best for watching movies.
the new fire 11 tablet is pretty good - just gotta sideload the google play store if you want youtube, but there's a few threads here on how to do that.
