Looking for a nice budget tablet/2 in 1 with 1080p playback - General Questions and Answers

My preference was the asus Chromebook detachable cm3 but I heard it doesn't get 1080p playback for movies
Was going to go for surface go 3, screen kinda looks cheap and low res.
Next Galaxy tab a8 but also no 1080p playback
Which one does?
Got around 2-300 to spend

Hi there,
In case of a Android Tab in this price range, I guess Lenovo Tab M10 is a nice option. I have used this device and its playback quality is awesome. It support 1080p playback and have stereo speakers too which are best for watching movies.

the new fire 11 tablet is pretty good - just gotta sideload the google play store if you want youtube, but there's a few threads here on how to do that.

[Q] Looking for an allround tablet

I'm looking for a tablet that has basically everything:
- Bluetooth
- GPS
- at least 10"screen with high resolution, no crappy 800x600
- 1080p mkv playback (too lazy to recode my movies)
- smooth!! No lags when scrolling for example.
- It would be nice if it's hackable, so I can flash ROMs that get posted here... I don't want a tablet that get only 1 update after a year.. but like my Desire Z, a lot of custom ROMs etc.
1080p and bluetooth is the most important for me. I liked the Transformer Prime, but after I heard of the GPS problems, that one is a no-go. The big manufacturers (Acer, Toshiba) have announced some Tegra 3 tablets but it's very quiet now... I also saw a lot of Chinese tablets that can play 1080p mkv, very nice, and very cheap... but no bluetooth nor GPS
Can someone point me in the right direction? I don't care about the brand of the tablet, it may be the weirdest brand I've ever heard, it only has to fullfill my criterias above.
Any ideas?
It seems very hard to find these tablets

Screen quality good for movies & youtube?

I want to get this tablet mainly for movies & youtube. I know the screen is only 800p, but I have a slow Internet connection so I only tend to watch 720p videos anyway.
How good do youtube and movies look on this display with regards to black level and colours.

This review pretty much sums it up...
"The Note 10.1's display was both a disappointment and a surprise. The display carries a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, the same as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and the Toshiba Excite 10.1. That means no high-pixel density clarity or detail on text or graphics, as you'd find on the Acer Iconia Tab A700, Apple iPad, and Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700.
However, Samsung has clearly done something with this tablet to boost its display performance. The sharpness and color of images is dramatically better than the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and my high-resolution images in the Google Gallery had sharpness and detail that came close to what you'd find on the high-pixel density displays. (Another observation: Android tablets typically struggle with skin tones, but the Note 10.1 produced some of the most realistic skin tones I've seen.) Text clarity was better than than on the abysmal Galaxy Tab 2, but it couldn't hold a candle to what you'd get on any of the high-pixel density displays."
I think it's awesome in my opinion. I live the dual speakers having forward. It's now my go to to watch series on in bed.

I thunk this tablet may have the best 1280x800 HD displays out there. REMEMBER. 720P is HD also The display combined with great stereo speakers make this an excellent tablet for media consumption and viewing/listening.
I watch a lot of movies on it. I really don't have an issue with the screen and the sound is impressive.

If you've watched 1080p videos and 720p for example a 15 inch laptop I'd say that you didn't see almost any difference. Of course the screen resolution itself is more important than the videos resolution, but then think about the size, which is minus 5 inches of that laptops screen I find this tablets screen very good. Sometimes I have to zoom webpages but that's only when using splitscreen. So yes it's verygood, but it could be better of course

Very Good. Breathtaking and inspiring.

The screen is accurately calibrated according to "Display Tester" by gombosdev (free in the Play Store). I have no tablet or phone (LCD or AMOLED) that can pass all of the app's gamma tests -- except the 10.1 Note (with latest update).
I was really confused when I wanted to buy a tablet. I was confused between both the New iPad and the Samsung Note 10.1
I was a big Apple fan until I got my hands on this amazing, inspiring, incredible, and lovely Note.
It is seriously one of the best devices I ever had.
Web browsing, youtube videos, movies, gaming, studies, and so much more! "I was actually watching SuperNatural's new episode on my Note10.1 today."
Word of advice: GET IT !

[Q] Does anyone else feel disappointed with Google Play Movies Quality?

I bought an "HD" movie from the play store, but it really doesn't seem like HD. Its supposed to be 720p, but just doesn't seem that high def.

You should try couple "HD" movies before we can make a comment. Possible just a few are not up to 'HD" standard! just a thought.

Nice! please post update. Thanks.
You have to find a good Quality bluray rip.
Some file that I have look really good, some don't. The market HD are 720, if you get a 1080 bluray rip they look Great. Remember your on a tablet NOT a T.V. I'm am satisfied. Very happy with the playback. :good:
was planning on buying a few movies soon (long plane flights), looking forward to feedback on the quality of the other movies
Something you ought to know and remember:
Infinity TF700= 1920x1200 pixels
'HD 720' films = 1280x720 pixels
These so-called HD films are meant for a TV, which usually have a maximum resolution of either 1280x720 (HD) or 1920x1080 (Full HD).
Yes, your TV screen resolution is SMALLER than your tablet. Thus, the image is zoomed in on your tablet, making the quality degrade in the proccess. In the case of 720p, the viewsize is 150%. Meaning, there's a 50% zoom.
So is it worth buying the HD movie or should we just buy the regular movie if we just watch it on the tablet.

What's even more annoying is that when you spend 20 bucks on a movie through Google you can't even watch it on your tv through a hdmi cable. The screen goes blank every 5 minutes.

It has been my experience that even watching an "HD" movie from the play store on my TV looks just as bad or worse than watching it on my tablet. I tried watching Prometheus on my tab the other day, and it looked awful as well. It seems like the best option here would to just get some sort of blu-ray ripper and get movies that way, although I guess that seems to be frowned upon by some organizations.
I Agree, I got a couple of movies for a flight and they weren't high enough quality to call HD, zoomed in or otherwise. The amount of pixelation was disappointing. Not just pixels around objects but that big blocks of blur kind of pixelation.
I'm hoping it gets better.. Also if it matters, I downloaded the rental, not streamed.

[Q] what to look for when buying from ebay

I already have a android hp touchpad i use for web browsing but i want a hd 16:9 10 inch tablet for watching my tivo hd mpeg2 videos on. It seems to me if i can find a tf101 for around or under $100. This may be a great value for that. Even though ill only be using the tablet to watch my own videos i dont believe there are video playing tablets like the old archos that would be any cheaper and have such a high quality ips screen as the tf101? So when looking on ebay for tf101's do i need ro ask the buyer anything so i know its compasible with android?
Pretty much, make sure it is a TF101 and that it is in good condition/boots.
I would HIGHLY recommend you research rooting it and installing Android 4.2 or Android 4.3 (stock is still on 4.0.3 and probably will be forever). It plays 720p videos perfeclty smoothly with MX Player. The only issue I have had is mkv files with DTS encoded audio. I am not sure about the TiVo files, but I would doubt they have DTS audio in them by default.

memo fhd vs. tf700

I want a 1080p 10 inch tablet mostly for watching mpeg2 1080i shows i download from my TiVo. I had picked up a refurb tf700 but returned it because it played my mpeg2's a little choppy. Also it was only giving me 2 hrs of playback with brightness all the way up. If i were to root and overclock tf700 would i get acceptable smooth mpeg2 hd playback? Wondering if i should pick up a used tf700 for around $275 or spend $350 for memo fhd. Can anyone who's used both compare for me. Most important to me is how the screen/picture looks. Black level. Battery life. Which looks better out doors? I know memo has more ram but i dont do much multi tasking so if interface is a little slower its not a big deal. Memo cpu uses different 86 architecture, not sure what that will mean. I dont game on tablet either
